September Event Log

September Event
Dominant Element: Wind
Waning Element: Earth

It's autumn at long last. The summer heat finally ebbs away with cooler temperatures, with the first trees starting to change to bright hues of autumn colors. These cooler temperatures are made even more noticeable by the constant wind that blows throughout the month. Windy days are something of a regular this month. Be prepared for gusts of wind to blow things away that aren't weighed down. The town itself is getting decked out for the season change. Halloween costume shops are starting to open up in empty buildings, and just about every location has some variant of pumpkin spice.

Back to School

With the arrival of fall comes the new school year. Starting September 1st, classes begin at all the schools across the city. Whether you're in elementary, middle school, high school, or at the university - it's time to start the term off on the right foot! The halls and classes are abuzz with students reuniting and talking about what they did during the summer. As expected, most of the students don't seem to remember that dinosaurs walked the earth last month - instead treating those events as bad storms or gas leaks. But there's only so much time to dwell on that, as you're likely more busy with trying to find all your classes and getting a good spot in the cafeteria at lunch.

For those kids who somehow aren't getting enough schooling and wants more, Kaisou High will be holding their annual Spelling Bee competition halfway through the month! Students will go against kids their own age and grade level and asked to spell difficult words appropriate for their age in front of an audience that are abnormally engaged spectators. The spelling bee also has tournaments for elementary, middle school, and college too, so it's open for all ages! There's nothing truly noteworthy about winning the Spelling Bee - just a ribbon, a coupon for a free personal pan pizza from Pizza Hut, and an English teacher praising their accomplishments -- but sadly, we know for some of you this is more than enough of a prize, so best review how to spell "vicissitudes" just in case.

If you're an adult, or just looking for some education that covers topics not normally found at traditional school, the Enki Education center is launching their fall classes! You can enroll in these classes to learn more about magic, the Spirit Realm, and other related topics. The Enki Education Center is also proud to have their first puppet teacher! The Professor will be passionately teaching about various events in history, both the mundane and the paranormal. Professor Willow will also be continuing his lessons surrounding magical creatures and pokemon alike.

Up in the Air

With the winds being so strong this month, some have responded by doing some more daring hobbies. Throughout the month, a group is offering hang gliding lessons. This group has situated themselves up atop of Moghome, the floating island above the Kami State Park. They are trained professionals, and be happy to give anyone the ropes. Another group on the same island has also set up bungee jumping for anyone willing to take the plunge. Those those who are more physical minded than academic minded, this might be a great way to blow off some steam. You might want to be careful though, the moogles who live in Moghome might try to pull pranks on you, or at least try to get you to do work for them. They really are lazy and annoying guys.

Taking the train out to Stardew Valley you'll find the season has changed there as well. The trees are in full bright autumn colors and there's fall decorations such as jack-o-lanterns, haybales and scarecrows. It's almost an idyllic fall town, really. Pierre's shop is selling seeds for the autumn - pumpkins, cranberries, corn, yams and the like. If you head to the beach, while it's a bit too cold to swim, you might catch sight of a mermaid if you're patient. Fortunately, these guys are much more friendly than their siren cousins you met in July. While some will swim away at the sight of a human, some will come and chat.

If you want to be more productive and in ways that don't just benefit moogles, there's still clean up to be done from last month's disaster. Buildings that need to be repaired, streets repaved, debris to be picked up. It's a good way to get some volunteer hours in and help out your neighborhood. Every bit helps with getting the city back to normal.

Lost to the Muses

It'll happen with little fanfare. One morning in early September, characters with a creative streak will be struck with inspiration. Inspiration stronger and clearer than any inspiration strikes they've had before. Artists will paint or draw better than they have before, Musicians will think up a song destined to make the charts, cooks will develop new recipes, writers might actually write something-- the rush of inspiration and creative is truly miraculous.

However, there's a danger to this swell of miraculous inspiration. As characters indulge in this inspiration, they will find themselves forgetting other things. At first it'll be mild things, such as forgetting to eat dinner or the other tasks you had to do for the day. Things that are normal to forget when you're in the midst of the creative process, right? However if you keep going, the memory loss will grow more severe. You'll forget details about your life, or the names and faces of the people you know. And in truly worst case scenarios, the ones that truly can't pull themselves away, will find that they can't remember anything but the creative work they're working on. Just how much of yourself are you willing to give up in pursuit of creation?

The Muses

Within a week, it'll become pretty clear that something is amiss. And to confirm as such, on September 9th, Zodiac will send a message through the app.

ALERT: SHIFTING GATE LOCATED IN UNIVERSITY DISTRICT.
Element Classification: Wind
Danger Level: Low
Designation: The Great Library of Alexandria
A new gate has been detected in the University district. We have reason to believe it's the Great Library of Alexandria, the realm of knowledge. We also believe it's connected to the incidents of memory loss, and should be investigated further. Anyone who goes to the library must bring a piece of knowledge to donate.

Visiting the Zodiac Office, visitors will notice that Professor Willow isn't here for once. According to the Zodiac member, he and the other members of POKEGO have already gone off to see the realm themselves- as of course professors can't resist the draw of knowledge.

When asked about the realm, the Zodiac member will explain that it was a library that once existed on Earth in ancient times built in honor of the Muses, nine sister goddesses that together are the gods of creativity, literature, science, and the arts. However it was famously set ablaze and in order to save it, the Muses recreated it in the Spirit Realm. The Zodiac member is confident that there should be relative little danger about visiting the library provided you make sure to follow the rules of the library. However, they do caution to avoid requesting inspiration from the Muses, and you should definitely not try to challenge their skills.

To find the gate, one simply has to head out to Kaisou University's main campus. Among all the class buildings and libraries, there's a new building front that seems to have appeared. White columns and stone stairs are hardly unusual among a college campus so it might be easy to overlook, except that the entryway is glowing with an bright energy. No doubt about it, this is the gate.

The Great Library of Alexandria

Stepping through the gate, characters will find themselves in a grand marble hall that would put most to shame. Around the hall are statues of the nine muses, posing in different fashions with objects associated with each one. There are signs with the rules of the library. Even though it's written in Ancient Greek, you find yourself able to read what it says like it was perfect English:

I. Take nothing out of the Great Library, leave it all as you found it.
II. Damage nothing in these halls.
III. To obtain knowledge, you must share knowledge.

In the center of the hall is a pedestal that stands four feet tall. It is here that you place the knowledge that you've brought to share. Books, movies, comics, art pieces, fact sheets, personal notes - anything that could technically be considered either knowledge or art are accepted. Once you place your item on the pedestal, it will disappear and a bracelet made of olive tree wood will appear around their wrist. This is their proof that they are allowed entrance into the rest of the library. Anyone who tries to go into the halls without donating a piece of knowledge will find the entryways into the other wings magically blocked.

Once the admission fee has been paid, it's off to explore the rest of the library! There are several wings to explore, each of them chock full of knowledge. A person could easily spend a lifetime in a single wing and not see everything there is to offer. Even though it offers works written and created in countless languages, you'll find yourself able to understand all of them as if they were written in your native language. That said, any cameras will not work while within the hall, so if you want to remember the things you read- you'll have to take notes. Any character with fire magic will find their fire powers do not work while in this realm either - the library has a bad history with fire okay.

The wings are as followed:

The Literature Wing

This wing is devoted entirely to any work of literature that's ever been written. Novels, poems, short stories, comics, fables - anything that counts as a story would be found within this wing. There's even a section devoted to fanfictions throughout the ages, if that's what you're really about. There are braille and audiobooks with headphones, for those who get their reading through that way. Throughout the wing, there are comfortable chairs and window seats to sit in. The wing is managed by a legion of cats, who are clever enough to understand human language. They will carry books to and from their shelves, bring book recommendations, bring snacks and drinks as refreshments on a little push cart, or just curl up on your lap as you read.

The Knowledge Wing

Next to the Literature Wing, the Knowledge wing contains any non-fiction texts or documents that have ever been written. Any topic of non-fiction is covered here: history, science, mathematics, cookbooks - the list goes on. Interestingly, there are more than just books about this Earth found in these halls. It's possible to find textbooks detailing events or information about other worlds as well - so long as it covers events already taken place (meaning before any OU's canon point). Unlike the literature wing, the seating are set up more as study tables and chairs, but are still comfortable enough to sit in for hours on end. This wing is managed by a bunch of owls, who will fly up and down the aisles with books in their talons. You might happen across the Professor or Professor Willow in this wing of the library, surrounded with books of their preferred subject and rambling on to anyone who will listen.

The Music Wing

A wing designed to have perfect acoustics no matter where you go within the hall. Here you can find every music piece ever composed as well as any type of instrument ever created. There's plenty of practice rooms for any size group (all of which are soundproofed). In the back of the wing, there is a concert hall where you can either perform your own shows, or watch astral recordings of any concert that's ever taken place. Want to see Beethoven perform his famous 9th symphony? You can do that! All the musicians past will appear as ghostly apparitions as they perform. Songbirds are the maintainer of these halls, who will fly by on errands or maybe even stop by to sing along with your performances.

The Theatre Wing

Next to the music wing, there is the theater wing. This area has play stages and movie theaters all set up. You can either watch any movie or show in existence (no worries about streaming rights here!), or rewatch any theater performance that's happened in history in the form of ghostly visages's. Find out how Hamlet was performed when Shakespeare was still alive, or see the first greek tragedy. Mice and Rats are the maintainers of this wing, they will help out pick out movies and also run a concession stand with any movie snacks you'd like to consume during the show.

Of course, not all shows are ones that we passively spectate. Besides the theaters, there is a room devoted to be a fighting simulator. Take any kind of weapon you'd like and choose to fight spectual foes from history and legend. Trade blows with the greatest samurai or battle a beast of legend. While it feels real, no actual injuries will come from these fights. And for those who prefer their battles to take place in the digital plane, there is a relatively newly added room with all the video games you could possibly want.

The Planetarium Wing

The planetarium is the wing devoted to astronomy and the heavens. While there's plenty of shelves of books here with information about space, the main event in this hall is a planetarium. A massive dome that can be set to display the night sky as it appeared at any time or day- and not just on Earth either. You can find out what the sky looks like on any number of worlds. All of them feel hyper-realistic, like you're looking at the real night sky. Bats help run this part of the library, the dark starry skies doing nothing to hinder their assistance with visitors.

The Museum Wing

The museum wing covers all artifacts that relate to knowledge but wouldn't quite fit in the other wings. Dinosaur fossils, vases, paintings, tapestries, all of them are carefully displayed with information about each item. These items have been collected across different worlds and throughout history, with all of them carefully preserved. One room of the museum is devoted to divine donations - donations given by deities when they came once came to visit and clearly the shining gem of the museum. Items such a Dharma Wheel, an apple from the Tree of Knowledge, an actual eye (thanks Odin), and other items relating to knowledge have all been carefully put on pedestals. While trying to steal from the other wings will have magic measures that simply prevent you from doing so, the consequences of trying to steal from this part of the library will lead to much more dire consequences. To reflect that, this wing are patrolled by crocodiles who will guide you to exhibits, but will also snap their jaws anytime they feel you're getting too close to an artifact.

The Mess Hall

With so much to see in this library, it'd be a shame if hunger got in the way. Just head down into the basement, where an expansive dining hall and kitchen await you. The goats that run this part of the library will be happy to cook you up any kind of meal that has ever existed. Or if you're the type to want to cook for yourself, you'll have free access to the kitchen which is full of any ingredients you could possibly want. The walls are lined with cooking tools and cookbooks to help you along as well. Cooking is a form of art, after all.

The Records Wing

The final wing contains records of every person who has ever lived and died. Each person's life is recorded in a hardcover book that is decorated in ways to reflect the person. The length of a book will depend on how long the person has lived, and it will cover events that happened throughout their lives. While you can access records of people that live in different worlds, you can only access records of people who have died (the permanent kind). Not only that, but the keepers of this wing (ghostly apparitions of scholars) will only allow you access to the records of people that are part of your family or somehow related to you.

Hauntingly, AU characters will be able to find books of their past selves among these shelves, as well as the records of their past selves relatives. It will detail their lives in their previous worlds, the events described lining up with memories you've experienced. The causes of death will vary. Some will go on to live long lives before dying of old age, while others will be killed abruptly by something either within or out of their control. But if these books say anything: it's that these memories you've been getting? They're coming from a past life.

Meeting the Muses

While the animal and apparitions do most of the running of the library, the true masters of this place are the Muses. Spend enough time in the library, and you may have a chance to come across any one of the nine sisters. While they are gracious hosts, they carry themselves with a pride that feels dangerous to step on. When asked about the memory loss suffered by some characters, they will explain that them or their sister simply wanted to give them the gift of inspiration and the memory loss is an unfortunate side effect mortals sometimes suffer from their divine gift. However, the damage isn't permanent! All one must do to return their forgotten memories is destroy anything they created while they were under that divine inspriation, and the Muses will return their memories. Doing just that will return their memories as promised, though some might find that their memories have been altered some - as if the Muses were inspired to tweak your past.

That said, the Muses really do love sharing inspiration, so anyone who is tempted to gain their divine inspiration may be offered to do just that. If you take the offer, the muses will draw upong your character's past and your character will gain a free regain that's worth up to 4 points - but in exchange they will permanently lose a memory of equal value (so if it's a 1 point regain, a small memory would be sufficient, meanwhile a four point regain might make them forget their most important person). Just how much are you willing to give up in order to gain?

Overall, the Muses will be happy to have the characters enjoying their library. That said, the Muses take great pride that they are the greatest at the arts and creation. Should you try to challenge them at their craft, expect them to not hold anything back. And whether you win or lose, they will be angry enough at your audacity that you might wind up cursed. So maybe be careful with these ladies.

Aftermath

With memories returned (or taken), the Great library will be available for the rest of the month. Take your time exploring and enjoy this great marvel. Zodiac will be willing to pay anyone who is willing to take notes on their findings in the library, as well as any notes copied from books they think will benefit them. Characters that attempt to take anything out of the library will find themselves unable to leave until they return the item, and anyone who causes damage to the library will find themselves removed from the library and forbidden to return. But all and all, it's shaping up to be a peaceful month.

You should probably enjoy it while it lasts.

OOC Notes

The dominant element this month is Wind! Anyone with an affinity to the wind element will find themselves boosted throughout the month. This could mean a boost to their power, having more energy, feeling more inspired with creativity, having better luck on different attempts -- the boost can manifest in all sorts of different ways. By contrast, anyone with an affinity for Earth will be experiencing the opposite. Perhaps their powers will be weaker, they have less energy, they're having a creative block or general worse luck - again it can manifest in all sorts of way and players are free to play with this mechanic as they'd like.

Players can use this event to modify their AU histories if they so desire! If you decide to change AU histories, please comment with the changes here so the mod team is aware! As for people willing to take up the deal for losing memories in exchange for a regain, please comment detailing what memories you intend to lose.

The original OOC plotting post for this event can be found here. Another Zodiac Post will be going up September 15th to serve as an intro post for new characters and allow characters to react to developments over the network.

sassery: (is an art that's hard to teach)

nero (nox miller) // devil may cry (normal au) // ota

[personal profile] sassery 2022-09-07 08:13 am (UTC)(link)
[back to (high) school.

Far be it for Nox to miss school being back in session– once again, his classes are full of overly-energetic and rambunctious gremlins who either go too hard in PE or want nothing to do with the gym at all. The semester may be different, but honestly, his kids aren't, and he wouldn't trade it for anything else.

Of course, not everyone's happy he's back to coaching. After school is usually pretty quiet, considering most kids have already left and a lot of teachers have gone home. Still, sometimes people have a habit of choosing to be thorns rather than accepting of outcomes.

Rounding a corner, it's easy to see he's been roped again into an elitist family conversation.]

Mr. Miller, I presume? A word with you, please.

[Although it's not the same parents as before, Nox can easily tell where this conversation is going. He pauses after setting down some of the basketball equipment, eyes going over the family who now wants to talk to him.]

That's me, how can I help?

We wished to discuss why you did not select our son for the team. Our boy is very good at the sport and enjoys it, and he was crushed to find out he didn't make it.

[Nox exhales through his nose and crosses his arms, already noticing how his demon's perked its head up at the sound of opposition.]

Unfortunately we had a lot of students try out this year. I'm looking for players who'll work together as a team rather than hog the spotlight.

Your decision is wrong, and our son is going to be on your team.

[Oh, is he now? Nox knows better than to say anything, but he does raise a brow at the demand. This again, huh.] Your son is talented, Mrs. Brendon, make no mistake about that. However, [And here, he listens to his demon and decides on a compromise, recounting how much has changed since the last school year.] Your son is also notoriously known for shoving kids out of the way and grabbing the ball every chance he gets. Unfortunately, that was what showed the most in tryouts. I can't risk him hurting the other kids just so he can shoot a shot. I'm sure you understand.

[Without even skipping a beat, the father speaks up.] Should we remind you of your previous outbursts, then, and how unprofessional that makes you for the job? [This, of course, gets Nox to turn his head ever so slightly, and the husband continues.] Oh yes, we've heard all about your temper flares, Mr. Miller. How you supposedly yelled at your team more than once last year.

[Normally, Nox would brush this aside and continue playing the neutral part. But now? You know what? No. I'm done playing nice. He can feel his demon practically roar at the audacity of these humans, thinking they can get past him and harm the boys on his team. While Nox doesn't move at all, he certainly feels his senses sharpen as he turns completely territorial.]

Mr. Brendon, I'm sure you know it's against school policy to accept bribes or adhere to threats. [Slowly, he lets his aura push out, his demon snapping and clicking its claws in absolute anger. It bares its fangs and hones in on the couple like prey. As for Nox? He's quietly seething. No one is going to get close to his kids unless he says so.] In case you didn't, I'd be more than eager to speak with you about it while we have a mediator between us. Someone like the principal, maybe? A guidance counselor? I'm open to suggestions.

[All the while, the couple begins to slowly shrink back from Nox, despite him not even inching forward. It's hard to demand much when the entire hall suddenly feels like it has a thousand fucking eyes on you. Even worse when you can't see any of them. Nox tilts his head, looking completely curious and innocuous about the whole thing, his demon staring straight through his eyes right at the couple and demanding they label it as a fucking threat.

The father looks nervously at his watch while the wife casts her eyes hurriedly left and right.]

A-ah, w-well, about that, I think there's somewhere we have to be right now–

You sure? [He sounds completely casual, as if he doesn't notice them suddenly reversing their insistence, as if he himself isn't pushing his aura out further to make the space seem even more dangerous than it already is. The feeling of being watched like prey intensifies like knives in their backs, though Nox only exhales.] It wouldn't be a problem for me to go and arrange something, after all.

[The couple backs up quite a bit at this, coming closer together and desperately looking all around them, before the wife lets out a bit of a whimper.]

N-No need, we'll continue this another time.

[They bolt from where they stand, immediately getting as far away from the hall and Nox as they can, terrified out of their wits. Good, get the fuck out of here. The aura that was there before suddenly disappears, the space feeling normal again, and Nox sighs. He turns, and that's when he notices there's someone else there. Uh, oops.]

Ahhh, shit. Sorry you had to hear that. [Or see it. Whichever. Look, he's exhaling because he's embarrassed now. Hopefully the whole aura didn't fucking scare this person too.

the great library.

a. entrance. Hearing the call again for action has Nox immediately heading towards where he needs to be. Zodiac may be there to give him information and the like, but he also has to keep his mouth shut from saying something he really shouldn't in their faces. It's a good thing he's learned how to work on his temper since he first got it all those months ago.

Still, the entry to the library is... not what he's expecting, and he reads the lines of giving knowledge over a few times before it really settles in his head. Normally libraries just let you in and don't have requirements, but this also isn't a normal library, so it makes sense.]

Anyone got a spare piece of paper and pen or something?

[Yeah, you may just see him looking a bit for assistance so he can write down what he has in mind to give the library so he can get in. Some help would be great.

b. the knowledge wing (closed to certain characters).

It happens without warning.

Nox hasn't been doing much except reading, finding the books that stood out to him the most, and the one he'd started with was for an all too familiar name–

Vergil.

It hadn't explained everything, but it actually gave him an image to a face, an actual person instead of something vague and unknown. Nox starts with a normal beginning: Vergil was a very studious child, very prompt, focused, and also a complete nuisance to his brother. He and Dante would fight as children and bicker over things to the point where Vergil would label his things to make sure they stayed his. Nox actually stops for a moment and covers his mouth, if only to stop himself from snickering at the image of two boys arguing over everything they owned just to get on each other's nerves.

He reads about how much later, his father came to Fortuna when he was in his teens and then left shortly after, once he'd been satisfied for what he came to learn. How his father raised an entire demon tower to gain power in order to succeed at his plans, and eventually lost to his twin brother. Who could not accept defeat and all the ugliness with it, and threw himself into Hell rather than let Dante reach for him and take him home.

Getting this far becomes frustrating and upsetting, so Nox puts the book down with perhaps a bit too much force on the seat, causing the thing to rustle in its pages. It finally rests with over three quarters of the book passed by, a new section open and waiting for him to return to. After a moment of letting his emotions pass through him, his eyes glance back and catch the words he came across a man with a demon arm in a garage, one who strangely felt familiar and also completely foreign–

A shock suddenly goes right up his spine, and he clutches his head as a memory slams itself back into his mind. Seconds later, he grasps his right arm, unable to stop the feeling of overwhelming agony flood his entire body, before he simply collapses to the floor unconscious.

There he lies, not a word out of him, only the memory of losing his arm stuck on replay in the dark.

c. the knowledge wing (redux)[open to all]

Hours later, he still hasn't left, though this time he's careful in what he picks up. Nox has gone through several books at this rate- Vergil's, Dante's, a book on Fortuna, a woman named Kyrie (and his hands had shaken at holding it, as if his heart was grieving over someone he never knew, but felt so much towards, and and so much for), and settled on a new one that stood out when he'd thought he was done.

Despite the many memories he's gotten since the beginning of this year, he doesn't ever remember seeing or hearing about this woman. Nico. While he's well aware there's still a lot he's missed, it's apparent enough that Nero had found her to be just as important as everyone else.

In one hand he holds the book about her– but in the other, well... the other arm is actually robotic, this time. It's odd, because Nox has always had a normal right arm, but this one seems incredibly well designed, like it belongs to him specifically. He twists his wrist once and squints back at the book, looking over something, before trying it again. And again. And again. There's definitely a disgruntled look before he exhales, cracking his neck once in an effort to relax, and then trying again. This time he doesn't just flick his wrist, he actually focuses on trying to make it work through his demonic heritage–

The arm actually extends, pulling outwards into another form, and Nox nearly jumps out of his seat when it happens.]

Holy shit. [What the fuck is this???? He knows he was a devil hunter in his past life, but how the fuck did he even have these or get them to work for him when he needed? His confusion is completely apparent, even as he forces the arm to go back to its original form.

Muttering to himself, though still audible:]

Yeah, we're definitely not in Kansas anymore, fucking hell.
fionnuisce: (holding up the light within)

school

[personal profile] fionnuisce 2022-09-07 03:31 pm (UTC)(link)
[What, one might wonder, was a college professor doing at the high school? Nothing, don’t worry about it. He’d definitely replace what he was borrowing from the chem labs, and not take more than what little he required. It’s fine.]

[Or it was, until he took a couple wrong turns and ended up smacked in the face with what registered to him as something adjacent to an overwhelming magical energy. Waver was about one incantation away from being ready for a fight before he caught the actual words being exchanged.]

[Oh. So that was all it was, and not a Servant or mage out of nowhere. That was a relief—honestly, it was pretty damn funny—and by the time Nox turned around there was a sharp smile on the other teacher’s face.]

Nonsense, that was impressively handled. I’m actually almost jealous.
sassery: (we will be as one;)

[personal profile] sassery 2022-09-07 09:59 pm (UTC)(link)
[What the professor gets is a bit of a sidelong sheepish glance, before Nox just ends up shrugging.]

I get at least two of these kinds of families every semester, and plenty through the year. [A beat, and he exhales.] Usually I try not to resort to anything hostile, it only adds fuel to the fire they wanna start. [Anything verbally or physically hostile, of course. No one said anything about demonic touches, though.]

But sometimes they just have to learn the hard way. [That he's not budging in this. That he's a wall. And if they fuck around, he'll make sure they find out. That's a promise.

Though he does pause for another second before tilting his head at the other.]
You a new teacher to the school? Haven't seen you around before.
fionnuisce: (your name's all it knows)

[personal profile] fionnuisce 2022-09-07 10:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Right, of course. They're lucky to have a teacher like you; there's a lot who wouldn't bother going to bat for their kids that way. [He couldn't entirely relate--most of his students back home weren't exactly the 'parent-teacher conference' type of families.]

[...Fuck, he was going to have to deal with parent-teacher conferences.]

Not exactly--I'm new to the university, I just came by to borrow some supplies until I can get myself a little better acclimated. Short notice, you know?
sassery: (i'll succeed as you breathe)

[personal profile] sassery 2022-09-08 01:39 am (UTC)(link)
[Nox blinks, then scoffs, shaking his head.] I'm only doing what I think is best for 'em.

[Though Waver's reply does cause his head to tilt a bit. Newcomer to the university, lacking supplies...]

Lemme guess- you in chemistry at all?
fionnuisce: (and lead me straight to your heart)

[personal profile] fionnuisce 2022-09-08 01:41 am (UTC)(link)
Sure, and you're right to do it. I'm only saying it's worth doing, that's all.

[At the apparently callout, he raised an eyebrow and lifted his sunglasses to rest on his head.]

That would be me. Lord El-Melloi II--just 'Professor' for the sake of brevity, but I presume we've spoken before?

B -- lemme know if this is okay!!

[personal profile] drewthetower 2022-09-07 05:12 pm (UTC)(link)
[August hasn't been too interested in the library after day one. He found a few books that seemed interesting--a book that seemed to cover the other August Villareal namely--but after that he just. Hasn't really cared. He doesn't care about the other August and there's nothing about his mom or his dad in here so...yeah, he's good.

Still, he goes through the gate mostly to make sure none of the bigger nerds have gotten lost in there, so he's in the library when he hears someone hit the floor.

Nox hit the floor.

Shit.

August doesn't hesitate to get out his cards and use them on himself to try and heal Nox the second he realizes he's unconscious.]

Fuck, c'mon, get up.
sassery: (we show no mercy)

it's v good shhhhhhhhh

[personal profile] sassery 2022-09-08 12:16 am (UTC)(link)
[It takes a good moment or so before Nox actually opens his eyes, and immediately his left hand clutches his right arm so tightly his knuckles go white. He raises his head slightly after, noticing August is right there, and he shakily exhales.]

Jesus fucking Christ.

[Helping him get to sit up isn't hard, but he's gone pale and he hasn't stopped holding onto his arm the entire time. He can't quite look at his friend, too afraid he's going to shake from the sheer trauma he's just experienced.]

Fuck this memory bullshit. It's the fucking worst.
drewthetower: (Will Wreck Your Shit)

[personal profile] drewthetower 2022-09-08 01:01 am (UTC)(link)
[What the fuck did Nox just see?]

What happened?
sassery: (beneath my skin)

[personal profile] sassery 2022-09-08 01:15 am (UTC)(link)
[What happened, August asks, and Nox looks down on his right arm for a long moment, before he swallows. The answer is said with grit teeth.]

Just fucking watched and felt my arm get fucking ripped off by my father. [Pauses, clarifies.] As Nero, not now, don't think we knew each other back then at the time. I was just trying to help him, he looked and sounded like shit, like another one of the poor people in the city. Ended up reacting to my arm, since I had a demonic arm back then. Next thing I know, I'm shoved into the fucking wall and bleeding out, my arm's in his hands, and he summons a fucking sword out of it and is gone.

[Just. What the fuck. What the fuck.]
drewthetower: (Still A Stupid Young Adult)

[personal profile] drewthetower 2022-09-08 01:17 am (UTC)(link)
[. . .

Yeah, there's only one response to that:]

So, if we ever see Nero's dad here do we wait a week before kicking his ass or do we just go to town on the fucker?

[Eve has been spending most of her time in the library, especially the Knowledge Wing. There are just so many books! That she can read for free! Absolutely incredible, if only she could show Sven this.]

[She's in the middle of picking out yet more books for her makeshift den when suddenly a man falls to the ground in the aisle.]

[Um...]

[Looking right, then left for any signs of obvious danger, she walks over and crouches to check if he's breathing.]
sassery: (dig deep;)

[personal profile] sassery 2022-09-08 03:03 am (UTC)(link)
[Oh, he's breathing all right, but he sure doesn't immediately wake up at Eve's touch. Instead, she may notice how his arm is being gripped and that he's definitely going to get a charlie horse if he just stays there.

Might need a bit more prodding to get him to actually wake up.]
playtag: (Why are you so heavy)

[personal profile] playtag 2022-09-11 11:11 pm (UTC)(link)
[Hmm... Well, at least he's alive. That's a start. But he probably shouldn't stay on the library floor.]

[Eve thinks back to the times she's knocked out a guy. What did her group do about it? Mm... someone put them in bed to rest it off. There might not be a bed in the library, but there are places with pillows. That could work. It would certainly be more comfortable than resting the way he is.]

[So she reaches down to try and move him. One hand hooked under each arm, she tugs.]

[...This might not work so well.]

The Great Library - Entrance

[personal profile] not_a_possum 2022-09-08 06:29 pm (UTC)(link)
[Behind Nox a voice pipes up in response.]

Yeah, I brought a bunch of paper. I'll let you have some if you help me get this fact sheet up to the pedestal.

[And if Nox looks, the reason Moxxie needs help with that becomes obvious, as the imp standing behind him only stands at 2'5 and is holding a binder filled with paper with a fact sheet on the history of guns resting on top if it in one hand and a guitar in the other. He seems to have jammed a few pens in the binder as well.]
sassery: (tomorrow;)

[personal profile] sassery 2022-09-12 06:18 am (UTC)(link)
[That was not what he was expecting- that the voice came from below his view and from the imp himself. Nox blinks for a moment, then just offers a hand to the other as a way of hoisting him up.]

Sure. You need me to cart you around too, or just get you up here?

[Moxxie may be different all around, but he's still a part of the the gang on the app, and Nox is getting paper to write something so he can get in.]
not_a_possum: (Default)

[personal profile] not_a_possum 2022-09-19 11:18 pm (UTC)(link)
[From there, Moxxie decides to climb up the man's arm to his shoulder.]

Just up there. I should be able to get around on my own once this part's done.
sassery: (brush it off and then)

[personal profile] sassery 2022-10-24 12:22 am (UTC)(link)
You got it. [It actually isn't too odd to have Moxxie climb up, all things considered. Though Nox does look the binder over and raises a brow.]

Bringing a serenade or something for the library?

[Fern has been wandering around the library for a little while now, on the hunt for books he can copy for Varian's sake. It isn't the most exciting adventure ever (especially when the books Varian likes are all rigorously academic) but it's practically a necessity, so he's determined to stick it out, no matter how bored he gets.

Lucky for him, coming upon his gym teacher passed out on the floor is infinitely more interesting than copying books, so he drops the notebook and pencil he's holding and rushes over.]

What the flip?? Are you dead??
sassery: (when those voices deep within)

[personal profile] sassery 2022-09-12 06:26 am (UTC)(link)
[Luckily for Fern (or unluckily, if he was hoping for loot), Nox seems to make a sound at the question, though it does take him another moment to open his eyes and realize he's on the floor. He lifts his head, confusion apparent on his face, to one of his students right by him]

Fern? [Oof, he must've hit the floor pretty hard, considering he was knocked out. Nox struggles to at least sit up, but even that seems to take longer than it should.] Jeez, that's one way to get a memory, I guess.

[He still hasn't let go of his right arm.]
laminae: (:o)

[personal profile] laminae 2022-09-14 12:14 am (UTC)(link)
[That noise is enough for Fern to confirm that he's alive which - oh well. No loot today. He stays where he is, reaching up to scratch his cheek absently.]

S'that what happened? Geez, you kinda look like a mess. Must've been some memory.
four_quarts: (...Damn it.)

[personal profile] four_quarts 2022-09-09 06:06 am (UTC)(link)
[Honestly speaking, it's barely inaccurate to say that Ghaleon has been living in the Knowledge Wing for the past several days, and only barely because they still remember their responsibilities.

On this day, it proves a good thing for Nox, for the memory of what a body sounds like when hitting the floor is embedded deep, and Ghaleon is by his side almost as soon as it hits their ears.]

My name is Ghaleon. I'm a healer. I'm going to try to help you as best I can. Now, if you let me know if you can understand me, it's going to make it a hell of a lot easier on both of us.
sassery: (too tall to overcome)

[personal profile] sassery 2022-09-13 02:28 pm (UTC)(link)
[What Ghaleon gets is twitches in Nox's right hand, a signal, at least, that he's still alive. They may not get a verbal response, but it looks as if he's slowly starting to wake.

Whether or not he can actually understand Ghaleon is another thing entirely, but at least there's an effort?]
four_quarts: (Oh joy and wonderment.)

[personal profile] four_quarts 2022-10-16 07:42 am (UTC)(link)
[Well, that's something. Saves the trouble of having to check his pulse at least.]

Not quite what I was hoping for, but you're clearly alive, so I can work with that. I'm technically a miracle worker, but there's not exactly much I can do for the dead, you know.

[A cursory examination (purely visual; you only make the mistake of touching someone who's not entirely aware of you that isn't gushing blood or something and getting hit for your trouble a couple times before the lesson sticks) shows that the trouble does seem to be the arm, and that nothing appears to be externally wrong.

...Meaning this is likely either internal or psychological, and neither are fun to deal with. Fantastic. Just what Ghaleon was hoping for.]

...I'm going to need to touch you to make sure nothing immediately life-threatening is happening, alright? So don't go hitting me in the face. I don't know how strong you are, and it's taken damage as it is.

[Elliot had been heading down the hall on his way home for the day, when he happened upon all this. He remembered that particular set of parents being pains last year, so he may have moved back around the corner and waited for all of this to pass. Or to step in, if things escalated.

Which...doesn't seem necessary, from how Nox handled things. He could feel the aura that Nox gave off, and it made the hairs on the back of his neck raise even though it wasn't directed at him. He supposes that's one way to deal with parents like that....

It's only when it's all over does he step out around the corner to be seen]

Eheh...it's okay. I was going to offer a hand but...seems like you had it covered.
