jackdawvision: (you follow me? there's)
[personal profile] jackdawvision
WHO: Edward Kenway and the network
WHERE: the Jackdaw
WHEN: morning of Oct. 11, just after the horror plot
WHAT: Psssst, hey, kid, wanna be a pirate? AKA: the IC recruitment post for this plot!
WARNINGS: allusions to past violent deaths of friends and effects of some alcohol abuse. minor treated injury from monster (bite). canon-typical Assassin's Creed warnings may kick in (ie references to murder and violence).

[Edward had to drag himself out of bed this morning, the hangover already wreaking ten kinds of havoc on his head. He groans, and staggers over to the coffee pot, because in the chaos of the past few days, he hadn't been able to do his job as a captain, under contract. He needs to rectify that.

He's back on the Jackdaw, reading over a script for a little advertisement for the less spiritually-sensitive people of Kaisou, to release onto the Internet to attract potential crew members who'd like to sail on a "floating museum," whatever that is. (He doesn't think it'll work, but the more people onboard with sailing experience the better.) It's...terrible, full of clichés and outright blatant lies, and once the somewhat disgruntled camera crew's left, Edward sinks into a seat on one of the cannons.

Then he turns on his own phone to make his own video. He's still wearing the outfit he wore for the Internet ad, but he takes off the hat, rolls the sleeves up, and waves a tired hello to the camera. He looks like total shit, and if anyone has keen enough eyes, they might notice that one arm has bandages peeking out from underneath the sleeve, and Edward looks a little hungover.]

So. I'm supposed to give this little spiel about "experiencing the Golden Age of Piracy up close and personal" and "living like a real pirate on a museum ship" to fill out the crew, but. [He shrugs.] I think everyone on this app knows better than to treat that seriously, so I'll be truthful with you all. As truthful as I can be, anyway.

I need a crew. Someone's contracted the Jackdaw for a month's voyage across the ocean, and I agreed. I know there's a few of you on this app with sailing experience, and I'd be glad for your help. Especially if you bring your own weapons, since we've no ammunition. If you've more enthusiasm than experience, you're free to join as well, but know it'll be hard work and you won't see land for a month. Or maybe more, depending on how the winds treat us.

[With a god of wind on their side, hopefully very well.]

In return, you'll be fairly, maybe even greatly compensated for your time and work, depending on the pay-out. Should we, by some stroke of luck, somehow take a prize while at sea, the booty will be evenly divided amongst the crew. If this will be your first time sailing, don't be afraid to speak to me before or during the voyage, and I'll see if I can help you.

[He tucks a few strands of blonde hair behind his ear, then says, with deadly seriousness:] I can't emphasize enough that you won't see land for more than a month. Or two. The Jackdaw's quick for the time she came from, but even at her fastest her speed can't match up to a ship of this era, and we're more at the mercy of the winds and the sea. Should you wish to sail with me, it's best if you prepare for anything.

I love the work, I do. I wouldn't have gotten into it otherwise. But it ain't an easy life. I can promise you this, though: if you sign on, I'll treat you fair, and we'll look out for each other.

So what do you say?

[private, to the horror plot gang]

I have a lot of cases of Cuban rum in the Jackdaw's hold just sitting there, and no way to off-load it without some suspicion over its origins. After everything we've been through, I say we see if we can't make a dent in it.

The city of Kaisou has always been a hole-in-the-wall kind of town. While prosperous and peaceful, it's usually overlooked by the rest of the country and left to its own devices. Perhaps you were born and raised here, perhaps opportunity brought you here, or perhaps you don't know why you're here at all. Whatever the case may be, all your roads led to Kaisou. It's not bad place to be, all in all, so long as you ignore certain holes in the world.
