Okay, what the hell is “flat earth theory”?
This isn’t serious. There aren’t actually humans who think their planet is flat. You have space exploration - more or less.
This has to be some kind of joke.
Right?

When one lacks education, they fear what they do not know, and try to explain it in ways they can understand.
Then, they convince themselves that is the truth.
no subject
You don't even have to have an education - it's there. You can see the planet is round.

Even worse, there are some select few that think that the Moon Landing of 1969 was faked just so that the United States would be the first to do it. They have strongly argued that it was filmed in a NASA facility.
So even photographic and video proof is not enough to convince.

i've seen flat worlds before.
[It was a book. Books are flat, right??]
i don't think this is one of them, but i haven't seen it from space, myself.

[Riku don't do this to the man.]
You're joking. That's not a thing.
no subject
no, it is.
i think the strangest world i've heard of has to be the one that was just a factory with a bunch of moving doors under it... or the one with tentacles.
...... right. there WAS the whale.

You have images from probes, satellites, even humans from manned explorations. You have children's experiments. It's ... You can see the damned thing is a sphere.
If you have a flat thing in space, it's an asteroid, or a construction project, it's not an entire planet.

do you know what happens when a group of people who don't know something get together
related question: have you ever listened to flocks of seagulls yelling at each other

Then again, many older civilizations had found the existence of planets. It is hard to see what the pattern is aside from spirituality.
If their deity created everything, and 'space' was not part of 'everything', then it does not exist.
no subject
... You're kidding me, it's some kind of religious garbage?
no subject
That said, it would do you well to avoid saying 'garbage' when referring to religion. We do have quite a few deities here.
Sometimes people misinterpret the teachings of those deities, is all.

But unfortunately: yes, there's people who believe, despite all evidence to the contrary, that the Earth is flat. Wonder what they think happens to someone should they sail off the edge.

1721? Excuse me?
no subject
Aye, 1721. That's the last time I ever saw Nassau. It'd been taken over by the British by then and they weren't too keen on us pirates hanging around.

You have - there's an entire database of it for free. You have children's experiments that show it. I've met stupid people, but - this just isn't physically possible.

There's data right there. There's so much of it. Images, readings, papers - how the hell do they just -
Shepard, flat planets aren't physically possible. How do they not know that?
no subject
But have you considered that if you go outside and look at the horizon, it looks kind of flat? Checkmate.
