Okay, I don't know how long Zodiac will- will keep this up for, so I'm making this as quick as I can and make sure to spread the word in case they take this down or-
[Or find other ways to keep him silent, to stop the message from getting through. He knew this would never go down well, he was dreading having to admit this and he'd honestly hoped he would have the time to talk to the people who cared about him in person- to soften the blow. But that might not work- not with how quickly the tide has turned.]
When I blew up mine and Fern's apartment in January, Zodiac asked that I work for them to pay for the damage I made. So they'd fix the place up again. I- honestly, I get working for them was a bad idea, but they wanted the remains of the peach and I wanted to find out what they were doing with it- and if I could find out how to stop them from using it. The best way of doing that was from the inside.
[He speaks from experience, unhappily, but from experience all the same. That's how he took over Corona in the end. Getting right to the heart and taking it down from the highest level- controlling the king and queen. He doesn't look proud about any of this, he hid things from people who care about him to try and stop his own mistakes making something worse happen. ]
So that's what I've been doing for the last couple of months. Paying attention to them and trying to find out what's- what's going on in there. Turns out the people in charge are demons- literally, and not the good kind. [Which, in hindsight, probably shouldn't be a shock to anyone given How Zodiac Are.] They wanted to use the peach to-to make an immortality drink. I managed to sabotage it to stop them making more peaches- because they wanted to sell them to whoever wanted them. I made sure that there's no way they'll be able to grow any more now, but I couldn't get to where they made the drink from the peaches they did get.
[Thanks, Moxxie. Varian sucks in a breath- he'd done what he could, but it wasn't enough. ]
They haven't drunk their immortality peach juice yet- they're still finishing it up from what I understand. But-but I can think we can all agree that immortal immoral demons in charge of a good portion of a city is a bad thing to have. We- we need to stop them before they do that.
[He hesitates- he'd be remiss if he didn't reveal something else he learned there. It might not matter to a lot of people here, he's seen real, justified anger towards all of Zodaic. He gets it, he's felt it too, but...]
They're not all our enemy. Zodiac. Honestly from what I've experienced most of the workers there are just average people trying to support their families without...without any real options to do that otherwise. The people are the top are the ones we gotta be worried about. That's...please, try to keep that in mind. Whatever's done.
[He takes in one last breath, readying himself for whatever comes from this. He's expecting people to be angry. He's expecting to lose friends, gain enemies. He accepts it tiredly for what it is. It won't be the first time.]
I'm sorry for hiding what I was doing. I didn't want to jeopardise the sabotage and I- I kinda hoped I could get this done without anyone getting hurt or dragged into this or- I'm just...sorry. I tried.
[And it wasn't enough. As usual.]

[Mostly Fern. He doesn't care about himself enough to be worried about his own wellbeing.]
This seemed...it seemed like the best option so when Amal offered it, I took it.
[He chews his lip, nodding.]
Yeah- yeah it could be really bad.
no subject
He's quiet for a few moments, then reaches over to take hold of Varian's hand.]
If you don't wanna see anyone get hurt it might be smart to get out of here now. [There are other people living in this house, after all.] But I'm not leaving you. Whatever you wanna do, you're gonna be stuck with me. Even if that's not what you want. Okay?
no subject
I'm staying here unless they show signs they're looking for me. I'm...watching what's going on.
[He frowns softly.]
...I'd really want you to stay here where it's safe if anything else happens. I don't want you to get hurt because of this. I agreed to come here ot get you to safety just as much as me. More than me, really.
no subject
Okay. [Okay, then he's staying here, too.]
Geez. Too bad, because I don't care where I am, as long as it's somewhere with you.
[He pauses for a moment - if he could still breathe, he'd be taking in one big gulp of air right now.]
I know this doesn't really matter anymore, 'cause of the peaches and everything, but remember when you offered to take me back to Corona? And how I wasn't sure? [He doesn't doubt Varian does.]
Well, now I am. If you ever wanted to go back to Corona, or to Ooo, or even just somewhere outside the city, I'd want to go. I'd want to be there with you. Even if Zodiac's after you for the rest of time, I don't care. That's what my answer is.
no subject
It had been a big ask, after all.
He's been feeling pretty rotten, but this...this helps. It makes him feel like he has something to anchor to right now. ]
Oh...wow. Fern that- that means a lot. [Especially now, where things can get real bad, real FAST.] I- I'd always want to be with you, too. So that's- that's a hard no on going somewhere safer, huh?
no subject
Nope. Not unless you're going, too. [And he obviously isn't going to, so that option is right out.] If any Zodiac jerks show up to take you away, they're gonna have to deal with me.

[He hesitates again.]
Next time you're gonna do something dangerous, can you try to tell me?
[He isn't asking for a guarantee, because he knows that that'd be an impossible promise for both of them, but he's so, so worried here.]
no subject
...Yeah, I'll tell you.
[He notably doesn't promise, but he knows Fern understands why, and that makes it a lot easier to not make it.]
I- I'm sorry I didn't this time.
no subject
[He does appreciate the sentiment. It's enough. It's more than enough, especially when they have other things to potentially worry about.]
So what happens now?
no subject
[He fidgets, worried.]
I...don't know. It looks like people are planning on how to deal with it. I think it's best I lie low here until they want to go to Zodiac...then at least I know the inside enough to help.
no subject
[Even though he thinks he doesn't deserve that much concern.]
Okay. I'm gonna stick with you, then. They can figure out what they're doing, and I'll protect you.
no subject
Thanks, Fern. That means a lot.
[That he understands why Varian did it, that he doesn't expect him to have done anything else.]
Okay. That- I can work with that.
no subject
Cool. In the meantime, if we're waiting for some kinda attack, we might as well do something more fun than just sitting here. Might be worthwhile to put together some sick science defenses, just in case.
no subject
[Which, you know, FAIR. He gets it. It's a small price to pay for safety.]
But maybe it'd be okay in the yard? But uh...nothing loud. I don't want to attract too much attention to where we are. So...let's avoid explosions.
[Look at him learning from this experience and trying to be more sensible about his explosions!]
no subject
[Varian agreeing not to do experiments. There's something seriously wrong there.]
The yard should be cool. And it's totally for a good cause, so no one can get mad at us.
[Hopefully. Maybe.]
no subject
[Because he absolutely agreed to this more to save Fern's skin than his own. Added that this entire thing has made him more than a little gunshy. He's terrified of Zodiac finding the people he cares about and hurting them to get back at him. Because that's exactly the sort of thing he used to do. ]
I'm sure Amal wouldn't, anyway.
[He doesn't know the others so well yet, but he DOES trust Amal implicitly. Just like he does Fern. He smiles, giving his boyfriend's hand a little squeeze.]
Okay, c'mon, let's...do it.
no subject
Good. [Varian doesn't need more people mad at him right now.
He gets to his feet, still holding Varian's hand.]
Alright, let's get some of your alchemy stuff together. We can make some bombs, at least.
no subject
So he's glad when Fern relents, standing with him. ]
Okay, great. That's- that sounds good.
no subject
Sweet. So what do we need?
no subject
Well, I figure if we stick to the non-explosive kind, so like...bubble and maybe some sticky ones? That'd be a good start.
[He'll hammer out a list of chemicals - full names- lots of oxidates and fluorites. Just a lot of chemistry jargon which only makes sense to someone who knows the periodic table off by heart. ]
What do you think?
no subject
Sounds science-y. But good, bubbles and sticky bombs. Got it.
no subject
It'll be a great time, just...something to relax with.
no subject
Thankfully, he has no problem holding onto whatever Varian gives him, grinning a little a the kiss, little vines growing out of his arms to curl around the supplies more securely.]
Exactly. It'll be fun and productive.
no subject
Okay, let's go!
