Not a magical ballroom peach
[At some point on the 20th, after the prophecy post goes out, the Zodiac apartments are shaken with a loud KA-BOOM! While the damage to other apartments is minimal at best, one apartment has definitely borne the brunt of it. Pieces of Varian and Fern's place can be found blown outwards and onto the street below. There are a lot of swords and dangerous chemicals strewn about so...maybe be careful if you're gonna go around touching any of them. There's a hissing sound from up high where there seems to be a fire extinguisher being used on putting out the fire up there and a distant "I GOT IT, I GOT IT!"
...They might not, in fact, have got this.]
Network: Video UN:trienemybest/fern
[A few hours after the explosion, the video opens on a still slightly sooty-looking Varian and Fern. They're both looking pretty sheepish after that mess. Varian clears his throat.]
So uh...you might have noticed the explosion earlier in the Zodiac Apartments. Sorry, that was- I was examining one of those peaches we got from the spirit realm. Zodiac seemed so determined to get their hands on one I-I wanted to figure out what they were about. See if I could maybe reverse engineer one to counteract whatever it is Zodiac plans to do with them. But uh-
[He waves his hand, to show that it kind of...went wrong. Obviously. ]
But sometimes junk goes boom. It's the price of doing good science.
[Fern no, that isn't how science works at all, don't play favourites just because Varian was the one who caused it.]
It doesn't look like anyone got hurt. And the explosion was kinda sick! Who knew fruit could do that??
[Varian's kind of casually covering his face with his hands as Fern decidedly plays favourites on their apology tour. He lets out a soft whine, and then looks at the camera again.]
Anyway, Fern's right, I definitely didn't expect it to have...uh explosive properties. I think the damage was largely contained to our place, but if anyone else's apartments were damaged please let us know, we'll come and help fix it up or pay for the damages. Sorry.
[He clears his throat again. He's agreed to sort out the damages for his and Fern's place with Zodiac, but he is NOT gonna voice that right now. He has a chance to figure out what Zodiac are about, maybe even find a way to sabotage what they're doing. But he's no stranger to treason- if he announces to the whole network what he's planning, Zodiac will know in an instant. He hates hiding the truth, it's against what he believes in, but this time it's necessary. ]
So um- important thing to glean from this if you have one? Do not eat the peach. And definitely don't touch the peach juices or breathe in any of the peach dust because that's...bad.
[Aw, Fern is just going to give Varian a reassuring pat on the shoulder. As far as he's concerned it wasn't a huge deal - some stuff got smashed, sure, but his swords survived and the four of them (Fern, Varian, Ruddiger and his new fomantis) are all fine. He wasn't super attached to the apartment, either.
Sorting out the damages with Zodiac is a whole other kettle of fish that he doesn't want to think about right now.]
Yeahhh. Dunno if anyone actually ate the peach, but ever since it exploded in our faces we've both been feeling a lot - man, how do I describe it? - clingier? To areas in the city that have gates. Those're where the spirit veins run, right?
[He doesn't know, he isn't an expert here.]
But it's probably nothing!

[Gotta establish the poor himbo boyfriend did no wrong here!!]
We're in a temporary apartment Zodiac have put us into while ours get fixed up. We can't really stay in ours right now considering the...uh...hole in the side.
no subject
[And totally not a threat at all! But after a couple of minutes, he might see a young boy making his way into the room. With a mysterious figure, he started calling out.]
Hey, can you hear me...?
no subject
[He doesn't get to finish that sentence because well, Ken's MOVIN'. The apartment they're in now is pretty bare- Zodiac have shifted them into it but it's not like they have a lot of STUFF left. Varian's trying to get some smoke and ash off one of his jackets, and it doesn't look like he's having much luck. ]
Yeah, we're here, Ken. Welcome to...what'll be our home for a couple months, I guess. Til they can fix ours.
no subject
I really can't believe you two were willing to do an experiment in an apartment. Aren't you afraid of what will happen?
[He didn't mean to berate him but at the same time....]
no subject
I mean, if I had access to a proper lab, I'd do it there. But the high school and college ones close after hours and it's not exactly private.
no subject
[He said before giving a look at him. With a sigh, he shook his head before looking at the area.]
I'm sure it can't be that important where waiting a few hours wasn't worth it.
no subject
No? Because, like I just said, it's not private. A few hours won't change the fact that it's not private. I didn't just do it here for not wanting to wait.
no subject
[He gave a sigh.]
We still probably should get you looked at. Just in case.
no subject
no subject
[See that? That is the look of someone who is rather suspicious he will do so.]
no subject
Yeah. I'm...working on that one.
no subject
Is that so? Are you willing to tell me or...?
no subject
Tell you what? I'm sitting down, as instructed.
no subject
[With that, he shook his head. For a moment, he debated if he should continue with this but he'll leave it be for now.]
Nevermind, just let me know you're okay and I really don't need to worry about anythng.
no subject
I'm okay, Ken. [He manages a weak smile.] Really. Just...shaken up. I don't think there's anything major to worry about, and I'll keep you updated on...well, whatever I side-effects I get from the peach, okay?
no subject
[And yet...!]
no subject
["Strange experiments" are the cornerstones of Varian's existence after all. ]

[And ironically, Zodiac will be the ones to teach him safer lab practises, amazing!]

[Mumble mumble]
Just anywhere to keep you safe.

[There's not a lot more he can offer - he knows he needs help in GETTING a building, but that's something only an adult could help with, really. Paperwork and all that. But he figures maybe giving Ken something to do will calm him down because Ken's pretty intense desire to keep him safe is making him a little uncomfortable, and he doesn't know how else to handle it. He settles for clearing his throat and shifting in his seat awkwardly. ]
Um...right. Okay. Thanks?
