WHEN: Today.
WHAT: Varian's shrine arrives.
WARNINGS: Kid having a unrequited crush on an adult.

[When the video starts it looks to be out in front of Kaisou Highschool. Not anything unusual, teenagers are all about the social media!

Except the video is focused on... a bunch of pictures? Actually, it looks more like a full-on shrine to a very handsome man named Flynn Rider.

Who is also a criminal, if that wanted poster is anything to go by.]

Ooookay, so this thing was just - in front of the school, like someone picked it up and dropped it. And I kinda get being so into someone that you get real attached to a lock of their hair....

[He really, really can't judge there, given he did it with PB when he was younger and still Finn.]

But is this a weird thing for your boyfriend to have? Is it normal for humans? Should I be worried? I -

[Fern stops abruptly when he notices a small gaggle of teenagers nearby, clustered together. A few of them have their phones out, pointed at the shrine, and they're giggling. He doesn't like that - oh boy, he doesn't like that at all. He lets out an inhuman hiss and suddenly the video is going all shaky as he starts towards them.]

Hey! Knock it off you dillweeds! You wanna sock to the face for making fun of him?!

[And then the feed goes dead. Guess who's getting detention today!]

"I don't think there was anything anyone could have done," Danny insists. He wasn't about to let his friend blame himself when they were dealing with literal super powers that made no logical sense. "I think.... This is just one of those things that I had to learn for myself."

It had almost been like developing another sense, or a second sense of balance. He could feel, now, this sense of how tangible and visible he was and feel how to twist that. And it was beginning to feel natural, just another part of how he existed.

Now if only he could get that for his newly developed floating ability.

"Right! I mean, even if what I am is super weird, figuring it out is still science, right?"

His parents in that past life had been ghost scientists, so there must have been some use for science in figuring stuff out. And if he was studying himself it should be safe enough.

"Hmmm, I guess you're right there," he doesn't sound convinced- the need to be Good Enough is strong in this one. "You can't really...rush figuring out your own abilities. I sure need time with mine."

But most of his was the visceral hatred of suddenly having magic in the first place.

"Exactly! There's nothing science can't work out eventually! It's just a case of finding the right angle."

Varian is willing to strongarm anything into science. Even this. He's sure he can do it with this.

"How's that going, by the way?"

Danny sounded a little distracted, but the question came with genuine interest. It took a lot of concentration to balance his powers between two people like this.

"Right! If it can be observed, we can test it."

"For me? Not so bad. Jun showed me some focusing exercises and that helped a lot. I'm still not thrilled to have magic, but I can see where it's useful."

He can use it in his science and it has helped him out in a pinch more than once so he can live with the damn thing. He guesses.

"We can totally work with this!"

That was a sentiment Danny could definitely agree with. "As long as we're stuck with it, might as well learn how to use it, right?"

"Awesome!" As they finally reach the hallways Danny looks around to make sure no one is watching, and releases the invisibility.

"And here we are! A free pass around the school rumor mill."

"Yeah, I've finally realised that actively complaining about it or ignoring it won't make it go away. I might as well make some good out of it."

Something to add to his desperate need to keep putting good into the world and even out the balance of the bad. Totally healthy! He heaves out a grateful sigh as they become visible again- THERE are his feet. He claps Danny on the back.

"Thanks, Bud. I seriously owe you one."

One more cautious glance around, and Danny transforms back to his human self in his usual quick flash of light.

"Hey, no prob. It helped me out too. I have a better idea now on how long I can keep that going. And helping people avoid death by the school rumor mill is always a good reason."

See, he was using his powers for good things and making jokes about them. He was totally over his four month long existential crisis.

"Glad to have been able to help you get your practice in. I feel like a real team player."

It's okay, they can make jokes about it. Pretending everything is fine with bad jokes is their bread and butter!

"And there you go! Next time, we can try and get across IKEA."

Just. The infinite IKEA. It's fine.

Danny grins nervously.

"About that.... I might have gotten a lifetime ban at IKEA. So I might want to get a little more practice at staying invisible before I try that."

You know, MOST friends might ask what their friend did to get a lifetime ban from a furniture store. Varian just takes in this information and nods.

"Okay, so the IKEA can be your big final test. Once you feel like you've mastered it we can see if you can get us through it without dropping the invisibility and getting kicked out."

Danny chooses to ignore that it was losing control of his invisibility that had gotten him the ban in the first place. Apparently customers didn't appreciate suddenly appearing kids.

"Sounds like a plan! And maybe I'll finally be able to use my meatballs coupon."

That's just flat-out rude, honestly. Who bans someone for suddenly becoming visible? Stupid IKEA, that's who!

"There you go, even better! That can be the reward for getting across, the meatballs."
