UN: Zodiac | Midmonth Post
WHO: Everyone!
WHERE: Libra App
WHEN: July 21st
WHAT: Zodiac Network Post
WARNINGS: None!
[We've reached the last third of July. The Fortress of Meropide has been taken back by the Libra App users, and the Zealots have been defeated or dealt with. The post begins like the previous one had, with notifications of peoples coming and goings]
Yoshiya, Kunikaki, Ai, Maxima and Yunaka have joined the app. Say hi everyone!
[The post then continues on as normal.]
Hello. Thank you for using the Libra App.
First they ruined the Fourth of July and now I have to work a second weekend because of the Black Order. What a load of crap. At least now the backdoor access to the Libra app has been revoked from the Black Order, so there shouldn't be anymore zealots popping up on the network. Good riddances.
Anyway good work on taking out those Zealots and getting that underwater prison. The board wants no part of the prison industry, so the place is yours Wriothesley. We'll be sending you the proper paperwork once the legal department figures out how the hell to explain "underwater prison" in the tax codes. No idea why you'd want a place like that, but not my problem.
We've also taken the liberty of giving the "sane" prisoners you've recovered from there some phones so they're on the libra app. We won't be giving any replacement phones, so try to be careful with them.
As for my colleagues on the app... I know we told you we'd take you off the Libra app after the mission was complete, but Research & Development noticed that our energy readings have really altered since joining the app. I tuned out through most of the explanation, but to sum it up you guys are gonna be on the Libra app on a more permanent basis. You're also expected to check in for monthly exams with the labs. Congrats on your promotion to lab rat.
Oh and one last thing: WHATEVER YOU DO, DON'T TOUCH YGGDRASSIL UNTIL WE SAY SO. You'll either end up stranded in another realm or piss off some Norse god. I know you're all eager to go murder more Order members, but just leave it alone while we're looking into it, okay?
Finally, I'm done. Bye.

This post is sponsored by Cosmic Demolition Crew. Paving the way to start anew.
[The Ronins will have found themselves be give new smartphones by Zodiac, similar to how the OUs receive theirs. Meanwhile the Zodiac employees has been tasked with either assisting the Libra app users or studying Yggdrassil. The Black Order player characters will still have Libra app acess, but their login info will indicate they've been added as normal users instead of Order representatives.
Users will have the option to choose their own display names and user pics if they haven't already. If nothing is chosen, the app will use their real name and a quick photo taken of them from their camera's phone. Like always, there'll be no responses from Zodiac. And as always, feel free to keep backtagging the event logs! ]

he's blinking rapidly and then trying to act cool about it but he did also just make the most obviously taken off guard sound the Duke has ever allowed in Jun's presence. ]
Alright, so that's a big no on the healing-clothes as well as the ...
You, you did say ten THOUSAND dollars, right. Man I am not from this world but that is...
That is about all of the money I've saved so far. After being here for several months.
Yeah, I'll uh. I'll. Really do my best to not need to commission you in the future.
For my er. Wallet's sake.
no subject
Haha, yep that's what I said!
Don't worry. Most people go their entire lives without getting into a situation so bad they need a Seal Knight to get themselves out of it.
And really, if you ever find yourself in need of divine assistance, I think there's a certain lady friend of yours that'd be miffed if you went to me before her.
[WINK WINK]
1/2
And yet, it feels like there's been a number of situations in Kaisou where a Seal Knight has been pretty necessary.
[ and then he pauses. They're on a voice call so Jun can't see the look on Wriothesley's face when the other says that to him.
He's calculating.
And he's actually not bad at math. ]
2/2
My 'Lady Friend' always said I could afford to be a little more social.
no subject
[Which he doesn't mind, and his tone reflects as such. It was better for the people to look after their own.
And he gives an amused sound at Wrio's tone]
Alright, fair enough. Though your social life must be pretty sad if you're looking to me to help with it.

Before I showed up in this world, I went aboveground maybe once a week, if that. I'm sort of a homebody, you know? Don't really much like the spotlight and too much interaction makes me itch.
I won't get into too many details, as I don't want to bore you, but. I just have a lot of difficulty connecting with others. Probably has something to do with my criminal background, but. Anyway. I'm getting better about it.
So, if that means I go about practicing being social with someone else who isn't social? I think that's the best kind of practice someone can get.
no subject
I see... I think I understand. My background isn't good either. It doesn't make for very pleasant conversation, and I don't understand a lot of things people talk about. [And that's before you even get into all the baggage it brings] I hate being the center of attention too, I rather be in the shadows.
... In other words, I get it, and I don't mind being your practice. If you ask me, you make for good company. You don't mind if I don't have a lot to say, and I like hearing your stories of Fontaine.
no subject
Sounds like we have an agreement.
Most of my stories of Fontaine are down in the Fortress itself, but. I have some pretty wild ones from the city, too.
Including some of the things I've seen in the Operahouse.
People really do trials differently in this world than what I'm used to.
no subject
Are you saying in Fontaine, they do trials in a.... opera house?
no subject
There was an audience, and the Iudex judged the trial from the stage. On one side, the Prosecutor stood. Furina often played the role of prosecutor if noone else wanted to take the stand. She was actually very good at it.
Then the guilty charge and their defense were on the other side.
Both sides--USUALLY argue their evidence and their experiences, and the Iudex makes the judgement--as did the Oratrice that was part of the Operahouse, too. Though, most usually, the Oratrice and the Iudex had the same judgement call.
no subject
I think they have that kind of trial format on daytime television, actually. Oh, and when there's a big celebrity trial.
What's the Oratrice though?
no subject
...That's probably for the better, I think?
And it's. Well.
It's a lot to explain so I'll give you the short version. Furina would probably know more about it because it was tied into her Archon powers. But.
The Oratrice Mecanique d'Analyse Cardinale. It was a ... hold on. [ he'll doodle something on a piece of paper, and then send it over via text. It looks like your typical scale, but the way he draws the droplets on either side are definitely wiggly like they're floating, water droplets... ]
It was a sort of machine that used a sort of magic power that only existed in Fontaine called Indemnitium. The Oratrice created it by converting belief into energy. Which is why it was deadly accurate for judging crimes--if the guilty party was guilty, the Oratrice could tell. You can only believe your own lies so far.
...Not that I'd know. My own trial was pretty pathetic.
no subject
[He listens to Wriothesley's explanation, looking at the image that's doodled. The scales of justice huh? Seems some symbols really are universal...
But at least he's connecting the dots. He may not know much about legal stuff, but he knows gods. ]
I see... so the Oratrice is why the trials in Fontaine are done in front of an audience. Gods derive power from the faith of their people, and the most effective way for the god of justice to build that faith is to let the people see justice in action. Fascinating.
[...wait]
Why would you say your trial was pathetic?
no subject
[ he makes a small gesture with a hand. ] And it is fascinating, isn't it. I grew up thinking it was typical--so it's pretty strange to be in a world that has to use a completely different system that doesn't have Gods involved at all. It feels complicated and messy.
[ and then he laughs. of all things, he actually chuckles. ]
That's because the minute I got up on stage, I admitted all of my crimes right then and there.
The trial ended instantly.
no subject
I could see why you'd feel that way, it is complicated and messy. [He shrugs] But that's part of "free will". Humans wouldn't really be choosing for themselves if a god weighed in with their opinions on our actions all the time.
[...
Okay, that gets a snort]
.... Yeah, that sounds like something you'd do alright.
no subject
And you're right, of course. Before I came here, there was an incident and the Oratrice broke. So the people of Fontaine would actually have to start getting used to making actual judgements from now on. ...The Iudex is still there and all, but.
[ he gives a small shrug. ]
Maybe I'm a biased man, but I'd prefer gods to be not so directly involved with every actions people make. [ he's gonna move to Jun's side, grabbing a pair of plastic gloves to start helping him with whatever work he has left.
there's a small grin on his face. ]
I'm just not really someone who enjoys the spotlight. Sooner I got out of that place, the better.
no subject
[So, murder's still on the table- Jun just rather avoid it if he can.
He'll scoot over, giving Wrio the space he needs to work. In the meantime, he'll start gathering ingredients for that parfait. ]
Mm, I remember Zhongli telling me something about that once- that the Hydro Archon is no more in Fontaine. Even with the Iudex, it's going to be quite a change. [He wishes them the best, really] Biased or not, I'm inclined to agree. Over-reliance on gods gets... ugly.
[That's how you get people like Kirei. And fuck that guy
He snorts a little in response]
I can imagine. Plus, I'd like to think you have more sense than thinking you can pull a fast one against that court system.
[Gotta be real stupid or real full of audacity to think you can trick the god of justice, man]
