WHAT THIS IS

This is a player-run event that is open to everyone! It's a charity ball with a Christmas theme, thrown by Yoosung's family's charity organization Kim Fundraising Association, which will be gathering funds tonight to help with rebuilding and rehoming efforts for the destruction caused by the dinosaurs in August (though they're calling it destruction from a storm).

It takes place in Kaisou Royal Hotel, a large and ostentatious building within Kaisou's Entertainment District. Those entering should be wearing something at least attempting to be formal (the rules are lax for Librans) and need to show the presence of the Libra app on their phone in order to enter (unless they're part of the socialite elite who got formal invitations anyway).

THINGS TO DO

December 17th, 6pm. Tonight, the hotel is decorated richly with golds and greens and reds, poinsettias and lilies, as well as a large Christmas tree in the lobby with a donation lock box in front of it, which a guard is keeping an eye on.

There is valet parking and even a red carpet entrance, even if there aren't a million photographers lined up to catch a celebrity snapshot. It's meant to make those invited feel special!

THE BALLROOM

The ballroom is quite possibly the largest many of the Librans have seen, with chandeliers and a large upside down decorated Christmas tree hanging down from the center. There is a second story balcony that surrounds the perimeter of the ballroom, where people can go to step away from the immediate social activities and look down upon the dancefloor and the stage where a live classical band plays for part of the night. Later in the night there will be a DJ playing more modern music.

FOOD & DRINK

Surrounding the dancefloor are tables of food both savory and sweet, and tables and chairs for people to sit and eat. The punch and ice water are also located here, while the open bar is in the lobby and serves all sorts of liquor as well as non-alcoholic sodas. Waiters will also be coming around with champagne glasses throughout the night.

THE GARDENS

If one wishes to truly take a step away from the bustle and noise, there are large doors set off the ballroom that exit into a winter wonderland garden. It's lit by sparse lanterns but mostly trails of individual candles with flickering flames marking out the paths in the snow. There are tall hedges and trees decorated with fairy lights, as well as a large gazebo. One may find sprigs of both mistletoe and mistlefoe here.

The Ballroom

Varian has come dressed in the sort of formalwear he's used to in his time period. He's had to attend Court a few times back home so he figured this would be appropriate- even if he's had to add a tail hole for the monkey tail. Looking around, he realises he's probably...overdone it, but there's no turning back now. This really isn't his sort of scene anyway, and normally he'd be wallflowering hard. Unfortunately, even though the rest of his wolf features have vanished, the pack mentality has stuck. So any of his close CR will find him moving to stand close to them.

"I forgot how much I really don't like fancy parties, I keep thinking I'm gonna trip someone up."

Even if he's not close to them, others might find him keeping to the outskirts of the party. Varian cannot dance and he's hoping if he makes himself as inconspicuous as possible, no one will bother him.

Food and Drink TW: Attempts at underage drinking

Varian knows full-well he's not old enough to drink in modern America, which is frankly unfair and he feels that some exceptions should be made if someone is from a point in time when it was fine. Still, he is an idiot sixteen-year-old and like any idiot sixteen-year-old, he'll absolutely be trying to nab one of the champagne flutes the waiters are wandering around with- largely by walking behind them and trying to stealthily nap it off the tray. If you happen to catch him in the act, he freezes, looking between you and the drink.

"...This isn't what it looks like."

It's exactly what it looks like. Other than stealing a drink, he can also be found prodding at the various foods on offer, trying to figure out if he actually wants to eat it or not. After all, it might be poisoned! He picks up a little quiche, giving it a curious sniff- honestly such a classy sight in this fancy party.

The Gardens

Eventually, Varian manages to pull against the weird pack instinct long enough to get a breather. He looks MUCH more comfortable outside than in the party. He can be found following the trails of candles to see where they lead. He can also be found studying the mistletoe (and mistlefoe) not yet realising they'd captured him, reaching up to prod the berries.

"I've never quite understood why people used an extremely toxic plant as a means of holiday romance. There's nothing romantic about stomach and heart failure, y'know?"

He is VERY ready to give you a full explanation on what mistletoe does to a person if they choose to eat it so it's probably a good things these are cursed so the subject can be changed pretty quickly.

[Elliot had come to the dance with his boyfriend, Rean. Fortunately for all, Rean had convinced him to wear something nicer than that flannel suit and tonight he was supporting a simple black tux with his long red hair down and styled nicely around his cat ears.

Unfortunately for Varian, none of this flavor text affects the fact he just got caught by his teacher, and Rean was nowhere nearby to distract him. Elliot gives a smiles]

Haha, really? Because it looks like you're about to hand that drink right over to me.

The ballroom

Fern has gone with something a little more modern in terms of fancy clothing, but oh boy, does he look uncomfortable. Parties are things he's pretty used to, Finn attended loads of them, but he's never been a fan of formal wear. Or shoes. It's definitely the shoes.

It's also the creeping anxiety of being Fern at a party and not Finn, but he's trying to ignore that one.

"Heyyyy, you're not that klutzy," he says, trying to be helpful. "I bet there's like a dozen dudes here who're worse than you."

Mal has gone a bit modern in her look, and is frankly only here because Luisa prodded her into it. She's not used to parties. Well, the actual party part. Sneaking in the back door to steal food out of the kitchen? She knows that part.

Which might explain why she's holding a plate loaded down with pretty much two of anything.

She blinks when Varian speaks, having rounded the corner.

"Oh, hang on, they must have an age thing about drinks on your planet." She puts down her plate to confiscate the drink from him, with a sigh. "Hate to step on your fun, but guess this is mine now."

She reaches for a punch instead, and in view of his probable disappointment, uses the Force to float it over to him, waggling her fingers after as a sort of 'ta-da'. Give his brain something to chew on, she knows that much.

"You can pay me back for my diligence and party tricks," she says, thumbing at her plate, "by telling me what the stang these are called, so I don't look like an idiot all night."

The Ballroom

Snow has attended a few balls in her life. Being the heiress tended to mean she had to make an appearance to a lot of things, much to her late stepmother's chagrin.

She was dressed in a modest but appropriate affair, something proper for a black tie but also being in mourning. She's looking for familiar faces and sees Varian, making her way toward him.

It's when she hears how he doesn't like parties and she smiles, looking out at everyone.

"I suppose we're quite the opposite in that way. I've always loved parties and people. I've wanted to spend the night dancing."

[The local chemistry professor arrived in his usual colors--cane at his side, sunglasses hanging off the front pocket of his coat, waist-length hair held in a braid tied with a thin silver ribbon. Of more interest was the fact that he arrived with two things: a priest and an astounding poker face. When not around his apparent date(?!) he presented himself as calm and collected, wearing the charming smile of practiced aristocracy as he actually spoke to anyone who approached him rather than wallflowering as one might have expected.]

[Formal affairs like this were easily his least favorite thing, but so long as it was for a good cause he could live with it. And he usually didn't bring a date to these things, so that was already an improvement.]

[Out of general sight and making an attempt to stay away from any mistletoe Waver leaned back against a wall and lit a cigarette, back to his normal look of general annoyance. If anyone approached, he'd just shrug and say:]

Honestly, not the worst of these events I've been to. It's a good deal less boring when not every single person present is obscenely rich with the arrogance to match.

Ballroom
Isabela arrives at the ball rather early. Anyone in the ball will notice that she has dressed up in a one shoulder ombre gown in sunset colors along with a pair of black strappy heels, a pair of deliberately mismatched gold statement earrings and simple yet elegant gold bracelets on her left wrist. This is probably something she wouldn’t get to wear if she had still kept her perfectionist façade up for much longer, but honestly she doesn’t care too much about getting too awfully perfect these days. Now this outfit is literally up her alley, a term she just learned from some of her younger flower shop co-workers but definitely enjoys a lot.

As she looks around the people around her, a part of her is still feeling the emotional pain of her mother’s disappearance but she doesn’t want to be a party pooper by woefully drowning in her sorrows publicly.

If she is not busy chatting with other guests, she could be seen dancing the night away. And no, she didn’t want to cause a floral blooming on the dance floor out of respect for the normie guests. Sorry to anyone who would want to see it happening.

Food and Beverage
After some time has passed on the dance floor, Isabela retires from dancing altogether to relax and get something to eat. She looks at the food choices ranging from deviled eggs to crudos to seared scallops and she has some tough choices to make with whether to go with champagne or a non alcoholic spritz drink.

If you happen to be at the buffet at the same time as she is, maybe you can chat with her or give her suggestions on which food she should try out. She probably has her eyes on the hamachi crudo and grape crostini though.

Gardens
With the ball getting a little too cramped for her, Isabela excuses herself to go outside to have a breather and go on a walk. After all, this lady has a stronger affinity for the earth element than she is letting on, though her big love and appreciation for the flora is undeniable.

She can be seen following the candlelit trail to the gazebo or having a staring contest with the mistletoe once again. Only this time, it is not as awkward like the last time she saw one, but she is still questioning the nature of these deceptively innocent things, possibly laced with magic, internally.

I. The Ballroom
[Jun's never been invited to a formal ball before, so he was very willing to go to experience it. He wears a white outfit with heels to help him gain an extra inch or two (he's still short) and matching white handbag.

When he first comes in, he stares in awe at the decorations. It really was beautiful in here. But as the night goes on...he realizes he has limited knowledge of what one does at a ball - especially when you don't have a date.

Eventually he drifts towards the sidelines, to try to observe what's going on. When he realizes that it's mostly dancing...well...he gulps. He really should've gotten lessons before coming.]

II. Food & Drink
[But his night won't be entirely wasted, as he's here on a mission! Eventually, he makes his way over to the food table. In fact, he makes a few passes, as if he's looking around trying to decide. When he thinks no one is looking, he'll grab one of the sweets on the table and try putting it in his handbag.

He's going to try to get away with this as many times as possible, so it's very possible to catch him in the act. ]

III. The Gardens
[Eventually, the hustle and bustle of the ballroom become too much for an introvert like Jun, so he makes his way outside to the gardens. It's cold out here, but at least it's quiet. He finds a bench to sit down on and relaxing, popping open his handbag to eat a few of his sweet spoils of war.

Look, he can always get more for his dad. It's fine]

[Varian is at least used to formal balls, even if his understanding of them, and as a result of that his outfit is pretty outdated. He's been sticking to the sidelines, too- not really willing to start dancing. He's so bad at it, and he'd really rather wallflower. He's not too good at spending time alone right now, though, so eventually, he ends up near Jun. ]

The Gardens

[Katsuki is really here for Yoosung more than anything. Fancy parties--parties in general, really--aren't his thing. But he does sort of know how this whole thing goes, having grown up with fashion designers for parents. He's been to his share of these kinds of things and knows how to dress up for them.

That said, he can only take so much of the party atmosphere so at some point he excuses himself and heads out to the garden for fresh air. The December cold doesn't bother him very much these days.

He spies a familiar face and stops when he sees what Jun is doing.]

[Despite her demeanor, Rose has never been a fan of balls. They're stuffy, and she doesn't like dealing with all of the pressure to socialize. However, she can't overlook an opportunity to look nice, and she has been a bit lonely lately, so she makes the best appearance that she can here. For this evening, she's chosen a striking red dress that compliments both her hair and her tail.]

[The first thing she's going to do is mingle and say hello to anyone she knows. She's going to try her best not to dance, and the moment the music starts when she's on the floor, she'll duck behind someone she knows. She has two left feet. She should not dance. It would not end well.]

Cover me. I'm not made for this.

Food and Drink

[There's food, which means there's drink. And there's drink, which means there's alcohol. Rose wastes almost no time after her mingling to find a glass of wine. After which, she's much more willing to talk.]

[She'll walk up to anyone she knows, greeting them with a smile. There's a flush of red tinging her cheeks as the alcohol takes effect. For all that she enjoys her sake, she doesn't have a particularly strong constitution.]

How are you doing? It's nice that we finally have a month of peace, don't you think?

[Small talk? She really is gone.]

[Reprieve]

[Once the alcohol wears off Rose quickly gets her fill of people. She abstains to either the balcony or the garden, depending on what time of night it is, and how cold it is outside. Wherever she is, though, she's looking at the partygoers with a smile on her face.]

[The effect of the alcohol is gone, but she's still content. There's something wonderful about all this.]

It's nice, isn't it? To see things so peaceful. I wonder if this is what it's like on Eorzea now, too.

Christmas Ball

Networking. That's what they called it when you showed up to a fancy ball you really didn't have any business attending as you had no extra cash to toss at the charity it supported or the clout needed to secure a formal invite just to chat up the rich folks and tell them all about your new investigative business... with nanny side option. Anthony at least knew the family and could spend some time catching up with them about Yoosung and what everyone had been up to since he no longer needed a Nanny. An embarrassing story or two might have been told, not by Anthony, but these things did tend to happen at posh dos when people were speaking about their families. Anything for a chortle.

There had been some momentary drama getting through the ballroom door as his shades had caused a few palpitations until he mentioned they were for an eye condition and then the formality about them was established with apologies for the trouble. He wore a dark suit with a brilliant red lining but a loosely fastened jacket giving him a some what more 'rock star' appearance than many of the others in the ballroom.

He helped himself to a glass of champagne and settled in along a wall to nibble a canape and look for some one who seemed to have a ton of cash and a burning need for a Private Investigator to chat up.


Sabotage the DJ

Later in the evening the dulcet tones of the Christmas Waltz's gave way to the more modern and the opportunity to put in requests.

He couldn't help himself!

Anthony wrote a note in the fanciest script he could write in, which was surprisingly elegant, and slipped it to the DJ as if it were a request from the host.

That was why the ballroom broke out in a improvised melody of the Chicken Dance.


Evacuate the Dancefloor

Anthony found himself a dance partner in one Princess Maria von Hapsburg, who may not actually have been a Princess but she did have a tiara and she knew how to bust a move to Jingle Bells like no other lady on this floor.

He wouldn't might some one stepping in however. The Princess could rock but this was a party and at a party you danced with as many people as you could fit on your dance card!

The elegant waltzes were much more Varian's speed- not that he was dancing of course, but they were more familiar to him than the modern music that came on later. He doesn't know the Macarena and he absolutely doesn't know the Chicken Dance when it comes on. He remains at the sidelines, watching some people dancing it looking extremely perplexed about the entire endeavour.

"I...are they okay? Is this some kind of...mass seizure?"

The Ballroom

[ When Luisa had heard about the ball, she had debated about really going. On the one hand, it did sound kind of fun, like a ball from the stories that she was so fond of reading. But she hadn't been sure that she'd really fit in in a place like that, and wasn't sure she'd even be able to find something to wear. Eventually, though, after a bit of prodding and some help, Luisa was convinced to go.

Now that she's hear, though, it does feel like her earlier assumption had been correct. Despite the lovely gown that she had found, the entire event was certainly much fancier than anything she's ever attended to before. She feels more than a little awkward just being there, and despite her height she does her best to stay off to the side and not be seen. ]

Food and Drink (TW: discussing underage drinking)

[ Even as Luisa relaxes a bit more, she still tends to stay off the dance floor and stick close to the sides. She isn't too hungry or thirsty, honestly, but having a bit of food was a good excuse to lingering by the tables.

And...Even though she's technically not old enough to drink it here in the US, she's had at a few drinks here and there back home before. It isn't really her thing, though, and doesn't drink all that often.

At the moment, though, the attendants offering the flutes of champagne can't exactly tell she's not the right age, and she honestly can't blame them. And while she normally wouldn't anyway, she can't deny the thought of drinking a bit to help her nerves is pretty tempting right now... ]

Gardens

[ When all of it finally gets to be a bit too much, Luisa finally steps outside and releases a slow breath. Despite the chilly weather, it had been pretty warm inside, so the cool air was actually a little refreshing.

Maybe she should just stay out here for a while... ]

[Luisa isn't hard to find in any room, so that isn't much of a challenge. Getting Mal into that room, on the other hand, is absolutely a challenge. It was entirely grander than she had any right to be part of, for a start. She was a street mutt, a pickpocket child. The only way she had ever gotten close to food like this was stealing it out of the kitchen.]

[She didn't belong here. But they'd...well, prodded each other along, in that awkward sort of way people do. Safety in numbers, really. Or something. Or maybe it could be tolerable with a friend.]

[So she just sidled up next to Luisa, hands in her pocket, saying nothing at first. That had been another issue. Luisa looked...well, pretty spectacular. Though she wasn't entirely certain that a woman of Luisa's build shouldn't just walk around in white gowns striking heroic poses from the ancient art of a dozen world and inspiring awe. Mal, though, was all about covering up her past, the past she wore in every scar she tried to hide. So she had gone with something suitable to cover up most of them. Though without her lightsaber, she felt a bit...naked, regardless. But that could be covered for, she felt. And at least there were some drinks on hand, like the one she held now, as she gently bumped Luisa by way of greeting.]

The Ballroom

[ Honestly, it actually hadn't really been Moana's idea to come. She had been more than willing to pass it up, until her father had somehow heard that she'd been invited. Their family certainly weren't the types to be invited on their own, but her father was very big into charity and public services and had encouraged her to go.

So that was how Moana found herself here, dressed up and mingling with some of the elite. While her family wouldn't be considered this high a class, Moana has actually been to a few parties like this before, so it actually isn't too difficult for her to at least get by in this kind of setting. ]

Food and Drink

[ When she starts feeling a bit hungry, Moana makes her way over to the food table. But the spread is about what she's expecting, and the poised act she's been using up until now drops a bit as she snorts a laugh. ]

I know people don't want food that's too messy at these kinds of events, but why can't they ever serve food that's actually filling?

The Gardens

[ She knows that it's probably a mistake, but she can't help going outside just to see the garden, even for a little bit.

But boy, is it cold! Even with her jacket, she's already shivering despite still lingering by the doorway. Still, she'll linger a bit as she looks out. ]

Man, it looks so nice out here. I wish I could stay out a bit longer and see more of it.

[Varian's wearing something more appropriate to his time period than this fancy ball requires, and he still looks about as uncomfortable as he did in the last party they attended. He feels more comfortable near Moana, though- something is driving him to be near the people he trusts (people, the newly growing wolf-part of his brain considers his pack ) and while he doesn't understand it, he's just going to go with it for now. ]

Hah, right? [He picks up one of the little...things on a stick.] I'm glad I left Ruddiger at home, he would have eaten everything here and still been hungry. I never get balls and- and the complete lack of actually decent food.

[He'll eat the thing on a stick and as expected, it is boring and not filling.]

Danny had made a dedicated attempt at escaping this whole event. He'd nearly managed it. But Moana knew him far too well.

So now here he was sulking in a corner of the balcony and trying to avoid notice. Because of the last minute nature of his attendance here he'd at least managed to avoid the worst of the formal wear, although he had been talked into a nice green sweater and slacks.

Eventually Danny finds his way to the food. Which he immediately pokes skeptically at. He picks over the food warily, trying to pick out things that he thought he recognized.

Varian's here and looking pretty fancy truth be told, even if he isn't exactly comfortable in his environment. He comes across Danny and snorts in amusement- moving to lean against a wall. Despite the mocking tone, he does feel better to have Danny here- the pull to be near his friends is stronger lately.

"So, Moana managed to catch you, huh?"

[Stede is dressed handsomely enough in a blue velvet tux with a spring of holly on the lapel. Though he looks uncomfortable and a little lost. Peeking above the starched collar is the hint of a bandage, but hopefully not too obvious. He smiles politely, albeit stiffly when approached]

Ballroom...bit different from the one in canon...

'Jeff' is dressed about as fancy as he gets, in a slim black suit with a dark egg-plant purple shirt underneath, left unbuttoned at the collar and without a tie. He meant to put on a tie, but he got distracted and his dog hid it. So no tie. He's hoping it comes off as cool like a rockstar and not like...what a peasant.

His hair is drawn up into a fluffy man-bun and he's wearing the Clark Kent glasses because they make him feel a little smart and fancy. And he sort of feels out of place in this party with its posh hobnobbing knobs, so anything that leaves him feeling smarter and fancier helps.

Ok, no, he feels REALLY out of place. This ballroom is like something out of a Disney movie.

"That thing's not gonna fall before the night's over, is it," he jokes under his breath, eying the chandelier suspiciously.


Food and Drink

Jeff's partaking of the champagne less because he likes it or wants to get drunk, and more out of nervousness and a need to do something with his hands.

But the alcohol makes him a bit more comfortable, and a bit more inclined to be charming and casual and lean into the idea that, heck, he COULD belong among this kind of crowd.

The joke you just told probably wasn't all THAT funny, but Jeff's going to laugh right along with it and add his two cents. He just wants to fit in and be liked, can you blame him?

"Fuck, they really went all out, didn't they? It's like a snowglobe out here."

But it is freezing. Maybe he'll go back inside--unless there's good reason to take a turn about the gardens.

Elliot wasn't familiar with the man who just spoke. But what he says is slightly alarming enough that it'll catch his attention. He's wearing a simple black tux himself, with his hair half-pulled back. Doesn't look too bad, but doesn't stand out that much either.

"What?" He'll glance up at the chandelier. Surely it wouldn't right? But his anxiety, it already is whispering in his brain. "Eheh..surely it's secured tightly up there!"

Ballroom

Harleen arrives to the party feeling confident and looking, honestly damn fine. It's been a long time since she's been to a party, and they were certainly never as nice as this one. She's not really a "nice places" kind of person.

She gets some attention from people realizing they've never seen her before. It's not quite a Cinderella moment, but she does allow herself a moment to enjoy the attention. Formal dancing is outside her wheelhouse so she stays near the edges to watch, although she will accept an invitation.

The idea of going to a fancy party was more exciting than actually being at one, and she starts to feel a little claustrophobic and decides to step away for a moment. Classy people tend toward the bossy side and being told what to do is exhausting, even when the directive is as harmless as demanding a dance or an introduction.

"This sounded a lot more fun on paper..."

Food & Drink

The spread is impressive, but come on. An open bar. She's not going to waste her time with nonalcoholic drinks, and is going to sample high value items. The food is delicious but she eats strategically, building a good base for all the booze to come, and anything that looks like it might keep is discretely folded into a napkin and slipped into her handbag.

"Is it bad form to drink everything, do you think?"

She never claimed to be a role model.

Gardens

After reaching her personal goal of drinking so much champagne the waiters begin avoiding her, her head feels a little floaty for some mysterious reason. Some air will do her good, she thinks. Lovely and refreshing and cool against her flushed face.

Except, actually, instead of lovely and refreshing it's fucking cold and upsettingly sobering.

"FUCK!"

"Bad form, maybe. Will you regret it tomorrow, definitely. Will it make things much more interesting in the short term? Almost definitely."

He shrugged, very definitely not sneaking a dessert into his coat pocket.

Ballroom

He's delighted by the whole party atmosphere, especially while the live classical band is playing (Fell is less keen on more modern music--his tastes (and knowledge) of modern music tends to peter out somewhere around the 70s). The rosy smile isn't at all dampered by the lack of dance partner. Fell's content enough to wallflower and watch the goings-on without interfering. But goodness! It does look like fun, doesn't it?

He wonders if his mysterious 'secret santa' secret admirer might be among the crowd.

He's worn a boutonnière of a red gardenia in his light cream colored suit, just for them.


Food and Drink

He's polite about it, well-mannered in his sampling and never loading up his plate too full in any way, but Mr. Fell has made it a point to try a little bit of everything. And though he's more than happy to sample the wine and champagne, he would have much rather had a cup of cocoa. Far more festive, if you ask him.

"You really ought to try those biscuits," cookies, he means cookies, "my dear. They're a delight. Just the right amount of sweetness."


Gardens

Fell's eyes light up at the magical winter wonderland that is tha garden. He's donned his coat and put on a pair of soft leather gloves and a scarf of rather equisite cashmere in a pale, creamy sort of tartan pattern, especially to go outside, and it is clear he plans to spend some time in the garden.

"It's all rather lovely, don't you think? Puts one into the spirit of the season."

It was getting late, around about midnight, when the kids were starting to filter back to their homes to be tucked into bed and the adults were beginning to gear up for the really intense late evening Waltzes that the crowd parted and a sparkle from one of the overhead lights caught Mr. Fell gracing a wall. The flower was a curious addition which was given rather too fond a smirk as he slithered over to hold up his end of the wall. After all... he didn't even know if Fell swung that way. I mean, he likely did, look at the guy, but what if he didn't?

"Tchaikovsky."

He spoke the name out of the blue while collecting one of those wine glasses from the ever present waiters with trays.

"You strike me as some one who could go for a Sleeping Beauty Waltz."

The Ballroom

[The ballroom isn't too unlike the last one Eve had seen. Lots of people in fancy dress milling around.]

[Her own dress might look familiar to those who saw her right after arrival: a puffy black dress with a large squared collar. The collar and trim is lined with lace. Old fashion, but classy. On a kid like her, it makes Eve look a bit like a doll. Those from Libra will also see she has white wings on her back. The wings are folded to avoid bumping into others.]

[She sits up in the balcony or side of the ballroom to watch the others dance.]

Food and Drink

[Now this is what she's come here to see. Eve stands at the foot of the tables covered in food, eyes wide with wonder.]

[She speaks softly, almost reverently.]

So this is the feast.

The Gardens (Open to Kid-friendly Mistletoe/Mistlefoe)

[Once she's had enough sight seeing indoors, Eve goes out for a change of scenery.]

[She scoops up some of the snow.]

Why is the white so cold?

[ Alberto's popped out for a change of scenery, too, and happens to be beside Eve marveling at the snow. He, however, has a much more derisive reaction, but he's eager to share his knowledge. ]

Oh, that's snow. From when the sky was leaking earlier. It's kind of like rain, but not? It's weird white water. And instead of flooding like it should, it just— sits there. Until it melts. It's like lots of tiny ice or something. It happened last winter, too. It sucks.

[ Nevermind that this is the boy who lied to her for kicks, claiming he lived in the Alexandria Library, and as such had inadvertently painted himself to be new in town back in September... when in fact he's been here shy of a year. He can't keep track of his lies, though, that was months ago! He jumps up on a short garden wall while he's talking, walking along it idly like a balancing bar. Because he's a middle school boy — of course he has to climb stuff even while wearing a fancy suit. Human or sea monster, the instinct to monkey around at a formal event stays the same. ]

a. ballroom

[ Alberto and Luca have never attended a formal event, and they're both over the moon with anticipation. Thank goodness Katsuki helped them out with prepping for the event, tutoring them on human culture off the cuff as usual. Because Alberto has absolutely zero experience, like negative zero experience, with anything remotely fancy — and Luca grew up wearing clothes made of seaweed until, like, less than a year ago. So honestly, the boys donning suits and ties for a huge fancy public party seems like some kind of milestone in human-ing, right? And they both do look very human and spiffy tonight — hair coiffed, color-coordinated, all that, wearing well-tailored clothes for probably the first time ever. They may still smell a little fishy, but you can barely tell — the boys actually clean up nice!

Luca's gone with a classic black suit, understated and clean, with a pale pink carnation pinned to his lapel by Alberto, who wears one to match; but always the more flamboyant, he himself went with a pale suit and polka-dotted tie, channeling his inner Italian moviestar (with a little more pomade in his pompadour than usual, as such...) They were fortunate to have the helping hand of both Katsuki and the shopkeeper styling them to ensure they'd fit in with the crowd, but that can only go so far... Because once they're in the crowd, on the dance floor, they do not fit in. At all. Though thoroughly enjoying the classical music, they dance along like everyone else, just... not like everyone else. Total improvisation from instinct alone — joyous, childish, semiaquatic instinct. And all due apologies to anyone dancing nearby who accidentally gets slapped, kicked, or crashed into by Alberto with his very human and ball-appropriate dance moves... ]


b. food and drink

[ Their behavior at the buffet table is just as sus, for any observant wallflowers nearby. They try just about everything from the lavish spread of food, both boys seen with plates in each hand stacked ridiculously high, Alberto's ambitious haul almost like a balancing act. They've practically recreated a tinier version of the buffet at their own table. And while they've made leaps and bounds with their human dining skills in that they use silverware now, their table manners (or lack thereof) are not helping them fit in here. Even trying to tone it down, they still eat with, uh— an off-putting amount of enthusiasm... Alberto's white suit won't stay white for very long, but hey, he looked nice for a while. ]


c. gardens

[ Though they love the hustle and bustle inside, both boys pop out to the gardens off and on throughout the night, either alone or together. While the ballroom is the most breath-taking room he's ever seen, Alberto in particular is also endlessly charmed by the candlelit pathways and fairy lights against the snow; Alberto's still at heart most comfortable outside, even in the cold and snow, and he finds himself drawn out again and again. He's careful about getting wet in the snow — but that's about all he's careful about. He's so full of energy tonight, if there's anything remotely climbable nearby, he's climbing it.

Alberto can be found climbing around on the gazebo outside, somehow both clumsy and dexterous in how he uses the gazebo's railings like a balancing bar, idly inspecting the mistletoe and mistlefoe clusters above, while swinging from the posts to admire different views of the snowy scene — though careful not to fall into the snowy scene. He's definitely begging to fall, though. Any onlookers trying to enjoy a moment of peace in this calm, romantic space are liable to be startled by all the close calls Alberto has nearly slipping on the slick, frozen wooden railings, narrowly evading various new angles from which to break his neck for fun. Feral monster child or not, he's still, y'know, a middle school boy at a formal event — he can't not climb the gazebo in a fancy suit...? ]

(While she has not been to that many balls, Isabela is very familiar with dancing in parties in general. Granted, her moves resembles more towards graceful ballerina than professional ballroom dancer, but they are still elegant enough to blend in with most folks.

While she is dancing on the dance floor though, she got a soft slap on the back from Alberto when they come in close range. However, her reaction isn’t that of anger but of surprise. She is relatively caught off guard but slowly recovers from it.

Luckily she didn’t accidentally grow a floor vine out of nowhere that could have tripped up plenty of people tonight. That, in her mind, is a lot more embarrassed than getting accidentally slapped at.)
