WHO: Eda Clawthorne, Luz Noceda, Raine Whispers, perhaps YOU?
WHERE: Eda's apartment, a random street
WHEN: End of June
WHAT: tfw you wake up with new ears one day
WARNINGS: None??
1. Luz
[ When Eda drags herself into the bathroom one morning and blinks into the mirror, she is unsure if she is still dreaming. She must be -- why else would her ears suddenly look pointy? Maybe she overextered herself lately, and paid too much attention to Luz's stories about the Boiling Isles. That has to be it. So she goes about her morning routine as usual: brushes her teeth, does her hair, puts on makeup and jewelry, the works.
The only problem is, once she is more awake, the ears are still there. She just. Stares. Reaches her hands up, for the first time, to feel them and -- yup, those are real. She thinks back to the flash of memory she once had, to a land where the skies are pink and the trees are crimson. And then she buries all of that, dashes back into her room before Luz wakes up and sees her, and digs for an old patterned scarf to cover her changed physique with.
She spends her next few days like that, making sure to always have a scarf or a hat or something covering her ears; but then one morning, she is in a haze of brain fog once again and forgets to lock the bathroom as she gets ready. ]
2. Raine
[ Okay, so maybe Luz ultimately found out about her little issue -- doesn't mean the rest of the world has to know. Her ears are nobody's business, okay! But she'd at least like to mix her new fashion accessories up sometimes, so she ends up stealing a few scarves; and on the way back from her escapades, she runs into her old friend once more. Raine Whispers.
How strange that this should happen twice in a few months when they haven't seen each other in decades before that. She just blinks at them, bag full of scarves slung over her shoulder. ]
Raine. Hi.
3. Wildcard
[ Maybe your character knows Eda enough to notice something's up? We can do something with that if you want. 8D ]

It's me!
The very morning Eda's head is a fog Luz was also waking up, pretty tired and was opening the door to get her toothbrush].
Oh, sorry Eda, I was just-
[But she paused, turned her head, squinting. Was she hallucinating]?!
Eda! Your ears! They changed!
[BACK TO "NORMAL"]!
no subject
Eda lets go and sighs. ]
You got it, kid. They're all [ she makes a vague gesture ] pointy now.
no subject
Have you had...visions, of things that couldn't have happened here? Like, in another world, but sort of hazy?
[Luz had to prepare that this whole thing was the magic in this world shaking things up enough that people who should have been themselves somehow had memories of being here instead].
no subject
Time to... lie blatantly. ]
No.
no subject
Eda. I'm being serious.
no subject
[ Nope, not gonna admit it. Nuh uh. ]
no subject
[Luz was not only NOT surprised, she was further irritated Eda would lie to her about it, because she'd spoken to WAY too many people to think she was wrong].

I'm not loving being lied to, especially by you.
no subject
Ugh. Fine.
I remembered something weird when I saw your [ gesticulates ] staff thingie.
no subject
[Look, she hated to be stubborn about this, but it was an honest to goodness reoccurring thing with several people that they were getting foggy memories of places they'd been even though they were supposed to be living here all their lives. This just cinched it for Luz that this place was way more sinister than she thought].
MY-ok, fine, "my" staff thingie. What did you see?
no subject
Just a short vision of me riding it.

B
Why does it keep happening?
It's been a few weeks since they ran into her and the kid she's looking after on the street. And since then, their life has gotten turned every which way. The worst being the most difficult thing to hide. Woke up one morning and the ears... Thankfully there didn't seem to be any reaction from the rest of the orchestra, so they aren't sure what to make of it.
Until they run into Eda again.]
Eda - um. Hi. Again.
Re: B
Your -- !
Wildcard - Owlery shenanigans
And that's why, on this sunny day, Hunter has staked out a spot across the street from Eda's business. Of the two of them, she's far easier to keep tabs on, thanks to the Owlery, and if there's anything suspicious going on chances are he'll notice. He hasn't told Elliot what he's doing, he knows that would go over like a lead balloon, but he's sure he can figure this out if he just has enough time to gather more information.
He isn't wearing his uniform for once, and in further attempts to blend in he's gotten himself a spot in a coffee shop near the window. He's been camping out there all morning, eyeing the entrance to the Owlery suspiciously, hoping something useful will reveal itself eventually. This is far from his first stakeout, so he's prepared to be there all day if necessary.]
no subject
Except... she can't even name it, but something's off. ]
Hm?
[ She looks at all her surroundings, including across the street, but so far doesn't notice anything. ]
no subject
Hunter is just hoping Eda didn't see him, but he stands out a lot compared to all the other customers.]
no subject
Her eyes narrow; and, broom still in hand, she stalks over to him and looks him right in the eye. ]
How curious that we're running into each other again.
no subject
So he huffs and sounds very haughty as he answers.]
I thought it'd be prudent to keep an eye on the store of a criminal, that's all.
no subject
Oh. You're still on that, huh.
[ Well. Technically, he's not wrong. She is a criminal. But it could not possibly be any less his business, okay!! ]
Seriously, are you some kinda cop? Bit young for it, eh?
[ He may also notice she is wearing a not-at-all-suspicious headscarf right around her ears. ]
no subject
I'm not a cop, I'm just making sure the people here stay safe and don't fall in with a criminal.
[He notices the headscarf. Given Eda's massive amount of hair that's everywhere all the time, that's really unusual.]
What's wrong with your head?
no subject
Nothing's wrong. It's called fashion.
[ She puts her hands on her hips. ]
Anyway, none of this is any of your business. Your business is embarrassing yourself on the violin.
no subject
That is not my business! I'm a good student, I take my practicing seriously!
no subject
Oh, I know! You're such a good boy.
no subject
Don't - don't patronize me! [Great comeback there.]
