( In the park, there is one (1) single, golden-colored flower that looks healthy, but wilted all at the same time. If someone listens closely enough, they may hear sounds of sniffling, or see the flower move without the help of wind or anything else. It... almost looks like it's shaking...?

Though, it could be someone just imagining things. After all, flowers can't cry or move on their own as this flower seems to be able to do so. Either way, it's grown in a place where it seems to stick out compared to the other flowers do. )

[The joy of summer vacation was that Souta finally had ample free time to spend on things he enjoyed most. Like reading, gardening, and also checking up on the plants around the city. Including places he doesn't get to frequent during his school schedule, like the park!]

[He had been traveling down the walking path, crouching down and whispering greetings to the wildflowers as he went. When suddenly he sees a flower that is drooping and crying. He doesn't even need to be able to feel this flower's emotions to tell that they are incredible sad.]

[He kneels down in front of the flower.]

Hello? What is wrong?

( The flower can't help but stop when he hears someone speak, turning towards them with a near mocking smile. He most certainly wasn't in the mood to talk. In fact, there was a part of him that wanted nothing more than to burrow into the ground. )

If I wanted help, don'cha think I would have asked for it?

[Souta wasn't exactly expecting the sneer. He leans back, giving the flower space, but not backing off entirely. Despite the reaction, he can still tell this flower is upset.]

I don't need your help kid. Don't you have anything better to do?

( The last time a human had shown him such concern was-- when he had first met his new best friend in the underground. But right now, knowing what he is - he knows that he doesn't deserve any concern of any kind. )

[Souta would show concern whether someone deserved it or not. That's just who he is. That said, this grumpy flower had a slightly higher chance of getting his attention than most, given he came here specifically to see how the flowers were doing.]

( He should know. He learned that in the past. )

[Souta shakes his head a little.]

No, I came here to talk to flowers, like you. Helping just seems like the right next step. We could talk about something else if you'd prefer.

[He gets a pensiveness expression from that tip.]

I know it might get me hurt sometimes. There's always some risk when reaching out to others. That would be true no matter what I do. Still, if there's a chance I might make someone else feel better, why not be kind?

( It's familiar, to say the least. Once upon a time, he thought the same thing. He helped so many people find their own happy endings - until he eventually grew bored of it. )

Unless you were expecting to meet more talking flowers like me, it sounds like you're wasting your time.

Besides, what's the point in helping others if you end up getting hurt in the process?
