[NETWORK POST] Update!

WHO: Everyone!
WHERE: Libra App
WHEN: February 1st
WHAT: Zodiac Network Post
WARNINGS: None!

[Wherever you are, your phone will start to ring and vibrate. It doesn’t matter if your phone was off or on mute - it will ring anyway. Checking the phone, you'll see the Libra app has opened itself and will not close until you read and response to a new post from Zodiac]

Hello everyone! Happy Lunar New Year and we at Zodiac hope you've been well!

We've seen your engagement on the app this past month and we're impressed! Thanks to everyone who got involved in sorting out the situation in the Helheim gate. You all did some incredible work and we look forward to working with you in the future!

Now we understand you have a lot of questions. While there's many things we can't disclose at this time, we can clarify one thing. Everyone on this app has been flagged for abnormal spirit energy readings. We're still looking into what it means and the potential effects of it. All we really know right now is they're similar to the energy readings coming from our otherworldly guests.

We'll try to keep you updated as we learn more! In the meantime, let's end on anothe question to lighten the mood!

Sponsored by Deathmatch Wine & Spirits. Try our Comos Canyon mix today! Please drink responsibly.

[Users will have the option to choose their own display names and userpics if they haven't already. If nothing is chosen, the app will use their real name and a quick photo taken of them from their camera's phone. Like last time, there'll be no responses from Zodiac]

Okay, that sounds even more ridiculous than what everyone else has said. A noble house spreading affection? Don't tell me you're pulling my leg.

I'm not poor or starving, so I can't say I'm interested in free food.
thavnairian: (🌊 hm?)

[personal profile] thavnairian 2022-02-06 03:32 am (UTC)(link)
nope, ishgardians really are that strange. but the valentiones are a good sort, and lisette is a sweet girl so i don't mind.

what

why wouldn't you want free food? it's free!
cardinalrule: ([GG] actually)

[personal profile] cardinalrule 2022-02-06 05:30 pm (UTC)(link)
[None of those names are familiar to him!!]

And what's an Ishgardian?

Because I'm not desperate like you apparently are? That should be obvious.
thavnairian: (β˜€ you lost me.)

[personal profile] thavnairian 2022-02-09 12:06 am (UTC)(link)
a stuffy elf from a stuffy elf city

i'm not desperate, i just like food. there's nothing wrong with that

you realize you'll get a lot more help around here if you pretend you don't have a stick up your ass right? do you need lessons on how to talk to people?
cardinalrule: ([GG] amused)

[personal profile] cardinalrule 2022-02-09 02:06 am (UTC)(link)
Huh, I think I know the type. [The, you know, stuffy type.] People like that are a pain.

[He bristles a little at the question. He isn't exactly used to talking to people casually, you don't get many opportunities to do that when you've got an entire realm's worth of responsibility on your shoulders, but he can't very well just admit that.]

Why should I bother? Given apparently no one here knows how to travel between the realms, I don't see what kind of help any of you can offer me.
thavnairian: (🌊 looking away.)

[personal profile] thavnairian 2022-02-09 02:30 am (UTC)(link)
yup pretty much

[Amal tells it straight sometimes, but only when he thinks people need it.]

sure, i get you. but what about this:

do you know what a car is? how to apply for a job online? how to pay taxes?

actually scratch that last one i don't know either
cardinalrule: ([GG] explain)

[personal profile] cardinalrule 2022-02-09 03:24 am (UTC)(link)
[Hunter knows how to do exactly none of those things. He does not, in fact, know what 'online' is, either.

He just kind of stares down at his scroll - sorry, phone - trying to come up with a response. Hell, the only reason why he even knows how to work his phone is because he had enough sense to read the booklet that came with it, and because it luckily closely resembles the magic scrolls used back home. These other things, however, have him at a complete loss.

It's embarrassing, really, especially when it comes to things he knows should be really basic like finding a job. That wasn't something he had to do back home - you don't need to figure out what you want to do in life when someone else figured it out for you. The only thing he has to go off of right now is this Zodiac organization.]

Those things can't be hard to figure out. [AKA the answer to all those questions is 'no.'] This realm is a lot easier to survive in than back home.
thavnairian: (β˜€ ponder.)

[personal profile] thavnairian 2022-02-09 03:38 am (UTC)(link)
i mean, if you're determined enough, probably. but i can tell you i've been living here for about six moons, same situation as you, and i still got hit by a car because not everyone does what you'd expect

that said, there aren't monsters outside the city walls or places for mercenaries to get easy jobs so it's easier in some respects and harder in others
cardinalrule: ([GG] cloak)

[personal profile] cardinalrule 2022-02-09 04:26 pm (UTC)(link)
[None of this sounds encouraging. He doesn't want to get hurt or killed while stuck here, make himself an even bigger disappointment than he already is, so as much as he dislikes having to rely on other people for help he isn't seeing much in the way of options.]

Woof. you haven't been having a good time.

Okay, fine. You might not be completely wrong.
[About the... stick thing.... He hates his life.] What kind of advice do you have for someone new to the human realm?
thavnairian: (β˜€ are you sure?)

[personal profile] thavnairian 2022-02-14 11:05 pm (UTC)(link)
on the contrary, i've been having a great time! there was the incident with the giant raven monster and of course getting hit, but otherwise it's been fun. they haven't thrown me in gaol once.

hm... advice...

if someone doesn't have libra on their tomestone, device, whatever - it's best to just go along with what they say rather than risk arguing with them about things they don't understand. they literally cannot and will not acknowledge what you're saying. i debated with a guy for an hour about elves when i got here and it didn't go well and i think he walked away from it thinking i was a fan of some books i've never heard of

secondly, if you don't trust zodiac and don't want their handouts, you can still find a place on your own. but! that's really hard to do without a place to sleep, so it's in your best interest to ask around and see if anyone minds having you sleep in their house until you find some way of making money. i cook for the people i stay with, but you can clean for them or whatever you think would be helpful.

thirdly, if you borrow something from zodiac, always make sure you return it when you're done with it. the late fees are no joke

and lastly... all those weird lights on the roads mean something. the big vertical ones hanging over the street are for cars, and the little ones posted at the corners are for you - for people walking around. if it has a little man on it or says WALK, then you can cross the street toward it. but if its red or says DON'T WALK, then don't step into the road because it isn't safe.

i think that about covers it... but if you have questions about something specific i can definitely try to answer. i've been doing odd jobs for blissfully ignorant citizens as well as people who live in the middle of the weirdness.

[Oh. Oh wow. So far Hunter has gotten a bit of advice from people, the odd, occasional useful tidbit of information. But this? In comparison, this is a whole compendium! He reads through it all twice, commits it to memory, and even though he still feels like he's completely floundering, this helps.]

Is there some kind of blanket magic placed on all of them preventing them from understanding? Or maybe it's been placed on all of us? It could be coming from our scrolls. Phones. Whatever they are. That sounds like it's the one common denominator between all of us.

[Don't mind him as he nerds the fuck out.]

Zodiac seems to be the only thing resembling order around here. If anyone is going to have answers around here, it's them.

Is that the best system they have in place to keep people from getting killed? Flashing lights? Who's going to obey some flashing lights?
thavnairian: (β˜€ from the colors of my heart)

[personal profile] thavnairian 2022-02-15 03:28 am (UTC)(link)
i think it might be an enchantment on them to keep the illusion up, or something. i haven't felt the presence of any such magic, but i'm also not... attuned to aether like i should be. everything has felt off since i woke up here, and it's only in the past few weeks that i've started to get my strength back. like the world is constantly tilted ten degrees

[He has nerdy friends so he indulges.]

they're bare minimum helpful, but it's better than being actively unhelpful. everything they've told me has been true so far

people obey the flashing lights for the same reason everyone wears pants and shoes if they can afford them - it's a societal thing. there are guards that drive around in black and white cars with red/blue flashing lights on top, and they'll enforce the law as they see fit. everyone tells me prison is terrible here so i don't suggest finding out
cardinalrule: ([GG] point)

[personal profile] cardinalrule 2022-02-16 03:01 am (UTC)(link)
Has it? [This is!! Interesting!!] What are you talking about, 'aether'? Is that the form of magic that you know?

Good. I don't want them being a waste of my time.

Right. Them.
[He remembers those jerks, the ones that arrest him and the horse.] Guard enforcement makes sense, in that case.
thavnairian: (β˜€ um...)

[personal profile] thavnairian 2022-03-03 09:38 am (UTC)(link)
i lost a bunch of my abilities and some of my more magical possessions, so i've admittedly been fighting at a disadvantage. i'm not pleased with that part...

yes! aether is the term we use on my world for magical energy or mana. specifically, it's the lifeblood of the planet and in all living things. it ebbs and flows around us though we can't usually see it. in places without aether, casting spells is difficult and staying too long is dangerous.

this place, though? it's so full of weirdness and magic that it might have too much.
cardinalrule: (consideration)

[personal profile] cardinalrule 2022-03-03 11:41 pm (UTC)(link)
[That tracks, from what he's seen and heard so far. While he doesn't have magic of his own apparently it's normal for people with it to have it weakened upon arrival.]

Aether sounds like the Titan's magic, maybe wild magic. You don't have a system in place to control it, do you?

Really? So far this places seems kind of magicless to me.
thavnairian: (β˜€ walk with me to a world)

[personal profile] thavnairian 2022-03-06 06:50 am (UTC)(link)
not really though of course people have tried. it's a source of power for things other than magic, but most of the time it's only safe to channel in its crystalized forms. i'm not much of a scholar, though-- i just notice stuff blows up less when it's crystals.

besides, how do you control a whole planet?

it seems that way, but just take a stroll into undertown. i'm telling you, this place was weird even before we got here.
cardinalrule: (scoff)

[personal profile] cardinalrule 2022-03-06 03:12 pm (UTC)(link)
[He really wishes he could study it....]

I'm sure there are ways. We did it back home.

What's undertown?
thavnairian: (β˜€ are you sure?)

[personal profile] thavnairian 2022-03-22 06:17 am (UTC)(link)
sure, but the last people who did that ended up causing a huge world-shattering calamity that buried them all hundreds of feet beneath the earth and set back civilization thousands of years. just because you CAN doesn't mean you SHOULD

[Wise words for any burgeoning scientist really.]

it looks like a creepy dungeon from outside and everyone calls it the abandoned subway station.

wrong!

it's probably the biggest magical bazaar i've ever seen. potion shops, blacksmiths, stalls selling fried monster, pretty much anything off-the-wall or magical you might need you can find it there. and if you don't want to work for zodiac, a lot of them are happy to have help.

it is still pretty creepy though
