[SEMI-CLOSED] Jun & Varian's Wedding

WHO: Jun, Varian, and everyone invited to their wedding
WHERE: Flin's Lighthouse island
WHEN: April 18th
WHAT: Jun and Varian's wedding! Ceremony will be handwaved, while reception will be the threaded part because that's the party
WARNINGS: Add as needed.

It's a beautiful Saturday afternoon when the wedding takes place. The wedding is located on an island in the Harbor where the only structures are Flin's lighthouse, a small house, and an old graveyard. The wedding itself will take place outside, away from the graveyard. A portion of the island has been section off and decorated to be a proper wedding scene. There's red flowers, lilies, and sundelions all over the place, lovingly provided by the folks living in Persephone's cottage. White folded chairs have been set out across the lane in a precise arrangement, with everyone's assigned seats carefully labeled.

It's a good sized crowd, with over 60 people attending. A lot of them are various folks from the app, but there's also relatives of both the bride and groom that have traveled to see the wedding. It might be a great time to meet some new people, or catch up with folks you haven't seen in awhile.

When it's time, the ceremony goes smoothly. It's a Catholic ceremony, with their own personal touches added in here and there. Jun, the bride, is dressed in a wedding kimono that is reveled as he's walked down the aisle by his father Abel. Meanwhile Varian, the groom, choose a formal suit more fitting of the time period he hailed from. They also exchange their own personalized vows to one another. Tears are shed and there are positive feelings all around. Overall, it's pretty concise for a Catholic ceremony, only lasting a brief 90 minutes.

Afterwards, there's a transition period where the wedding party is taken away for photos, and the people assisting convert the area into one more fitting for a reception. Tables and chairs are set up, a dance floor is laid down, the activity areas are prepped. Within an hour, as it settles in the late afternoon, everything is ready.

The wedding was a success, and now it's time to party the night away.

[THAT makes Varian laugh. ]

I mean, if the bride is getting involved in the fight, we've hit a level you can't come back from. He'd be so mad about it. We've been planning this for months.

[ He tilts his head at the comment. ]

Valuing... what? Being in love? That's... last time I checked that wasn't exclusive to strong people. In fact, the opposite has been proven true to me, time and time again.

... Nah. It'd be fun to see.

[Bakugou no.

He is going to wrinkle his nose at that response, though.]

Eugh. No. I get that, as stupidly sappy as it is. It's... the rest of this.

[He's going to just gesture at the venue around them, seemingly frustrated. Only... for all his rude phrasing and apparent annoyance, there's something about his expression that seems... conflicted. Like he's honestly trying to figure this out.]

I don't get showing off about it. Weddings always sounded like shit people did to rub their romance in other people's faces, but... [Look at him. He looks so uncomfortable.] ... I dunno. People are actually enjoying it. S'weird.

[He's such a teenager.]

It would, but I don't think the person would be left standing after, and I would, personally, prefer my wedding to not have a giant fight in it.

[Varian turns to look at where Bakugou is gesturing, before turning to listen to his words again. He chuckles softly. ]

I mean, I can get where that thought process comes from. Honestly, if it were just me and Jun, we probably wouldn't have had a party at all. We're not big party people at all. But this? This is as much a celebration for the people who love us, the people who... who helped us get where we are today than anything else. It's to show them how much we appreciate them being in our lives, how much they influenced them in all different ways to make us the people we are today. Where we can get married and have a happy life together.

[He looks at Bakugou again, a little more curiously this time, before pulling up a chair to sit next to him properly. ]

You're sixteen, right? I was the same age as you when I first came into this world. It's... pretty frustrating, isn't it? Growing up in one world where you understood how everything worked, you knew what you were about and your place in it. And then suddenly, blam, you're in a completely different place that runs on completely different rules and none of it makes any sense. [ He rests his elbow on the table, chin on his hand, letting out a soft sigh. ] And you just wanna scream at them sometimes because they just don't get what it's like to have to re-learn basically everything you ever knew about how to exist somewhere.

[He is going somewhere with this. He's leading up to it. ]

It's even worse when you're that age. I dunno about you, but I was treated pretty much like an adult by sixteen back in Corona. I had all kinds of freedoms. And then you come here and you find out you're very much just a kid and all those freedoms you used to have are suddenly gone. Because this world has a very different definition of what an adult is.

[It may not look like Bakugou is actually listening to what Varian is saying from the way his nose is wrinkling and he's slouching a little further in his chair, practically glaring out at the people in front of them, but... he is.

He's finally figured out that the fastest way to try and understand this strange and sometimes backwards world is to listen. Even if he doesn't like what he's hearing.]

... just turned sixteen. But this world's gonna make me seventeen in a few days, I guess. [He's annoyed about that, but. Nothing he can do about the steady march of time, apparently.]

I'm not an adult in my world, yet. My Japan's not too different from this world's when it comes to that. But. [He makes a face, eyes flicking from the crowd to Varian and then back again.] This world's... touchier. Shit I can say and do back home gets me treated like a damn threat, here.

[But that's not a failing of this world and instead of his own. He'll... come to understand that, in time. He's already starting to.

But... ]

You-- [He starts before the words die in his throat, before frustration crosses his face. There's something he wants to ask or say, that much is clear. But he promised Lycaon he'd be on his best behavior.

And even Bakugou isn't enough of an asshole to actively try to bring down a wedding.]

Aaaaaugh. [He reaches up, scrubbing a hand through the side of his mess of hair- this might be part of the reason no amount of combing could have helped him, today.] I'm figuring it out. I will figure it out. Not gonna let some stupid different world defeat me.

[Bakugou pushes himself up, then, if just to moodily reach for his drink - a Shirley Temple, courtesy of his stupidly thorough new dog dad - and takes some brooding sips of the ridiculously sweet and fruity thing.]

ご結婚おめでとうございます. [He mumbles, before pausing and making another face.] That's... congratulations on your wedding. Hope you guys have a happy life, or whatever.

[... at least he's trying?]

[ Varian understands the teenage slouch and sneer. He might not be one any more, but he's only recently escaped teenagerdom. He knows the signs. He sees you, Bakugou. ]

Yeah, it's weird like that, no counting for timing when you're nabbed into another dimension, huh?

[Still, he said he would listen and listen he does. He nods in understanding. ]

It is. For me? I'm about two hundred years displaced in time. We don't even have electricity where I came from, that was a wild thing to get my head around. But it's... not easy. And for people who were born in this world, it's easy for them to forget that. They don't have to adapt the same way we do.

[ Varian watches passively as Bakugou goes through a few emotions, before chuckling softly. ]

Okay, that's fair. But there's no expiration date on that offer. I'm always on the network, and I live down in Meropide if you ever wanna drop by. I do make some cool robots and explosives down there. [He knows what you're about boyo. He can pspspsps you. ] I know you won't let this world defeat you, but beating it is a sure lot easier when you have a little backup for the process. Even if it's just a sounding board for whatever's going on in your head.

[ Varian cants his head at the mumbling, before smiling gently. He gives a bow of his head and responds back:]

どうもありがとうございます。お越しいただき、嬉しく思います。 And I'm sure we will. We've been having a pretty good one, so far.

[There's a glimmer of interest when Varian mentions his own time and the differences between then and not. It's... a lot, honestly. Bakugou can at least understand that much. The difference between the 1800s versus the 2000s are a lot more drastic than between 2026 and his own time. At least as far as technology goes.]

Eugh. Bet you smelled like crap when you got here, then. [Bakugou, be nice.] ... it's 2026 here, right? M'about 120 years ahead of this place.

[Not as different, sure. But still... different.]

Does everyone do shit down there? [Look at him SULK. You can't promise explosions and robots and then say Meropide!!] The seals try to kill me as soon as I look at that damn place.

[It's enough of a distraction that he almost misses the response in Japanese back to him. Almost. As it is, the sound of a familiar language purposefully uttered has the sharpness of interest returning to his eyes.

It makes sense, he supposes. Jun is very clearly Japanese. You'd want at least a passing knowledge of your partner's language, wouldn't you?]

... good. Lycaon'd probably eat his own tail otherwise.

[ He catches that interest so he doesn't seem that bothered by the comment. Though he does huff in laughter and shake his head. ]

I actually invented a hot water shower system. That was one of the things I brought to my homeland. So I was cleaner than you'd think. [ A pause. ] Well, except for the usual grease-monkey thing, but that's just part of being an alchemist. And no way, the future? That's gotta be interesting. Have you noticed a big change in technology between here and what you know?

[ He snorts in amusement. ]

Well, it is pretty busy down there - it's like it's own mini city. [He can dangle this promise, he will do what he wants. ] Well. I live there, and the seals are okay with me. I'm sure I can vouch for you.

[ A quirk of his lips is all Varian shows that he's noticed- they can let it be a thing, he doesn't need to comment on it and make the kid feel annoyed. But he'd have it right on the money, he learned it for Jun, just like Jun learned German for him. A shared interest in each other's mother tongues. ]

I could never do that to him. Not after all the effort he put in. He's a great guy, and I really appreciate everything he's done here for us, y'know?

[Bakugou's going to wrinkle his nose just a little. Ugh. Nerd. Inventing things and tinkering. Ugh.]

... not much, but my society's advanced around quirks, mostly. Powers, I guess. Kinda like the weird magic shit they have here. Technology's been developed to support and enhance quirks, more than just in general. [He is... going to think, though.] I guess we use robots and holograms a lot more than this world.

[How dare you, Varian. How dare you talk up the one place Bakugou wants to go more than any other but hasn't figured out a way to get to without actually fist-fighting the marine wildlife to get there.]

I dunno, it's kinda fun to watch him lose his shit when you tell him things like you noticed one table had an ivory napkin instead of a white one. Or you're pretty sure a few people got dinner forks instead of salad.

[Though to be fair, Bakugou just likes pissing people off in general.

But circling back to that mythical forbidden fortress full of wonder and treasure and a fight club...]

... you build stuff, huh? I've been looking for someone to help me build some support items like the ones I had back in my world.

But apparently you can't just ask for explosives on the damn network.
