WHO: Students, faculty, anybody hanging about. WHERE: Kaisou University WHEN: April + nebulously springtime WHAT: General log for University activity! WARNINGS: None, probably?
[It was probably a good idea to give some space to the active construction zone and the unhinged engineer with blueprints, metal, and a blowtorch. Especially now that he had an assistant, tremendous despite sitting politely on the ground with Viktor perched on its shoulder. Much easier to reach the framework of an in-progress elevator from up here, never mind the utility in simply getting around.]
[However, whether one had been conscripted into the ongoing project or not, it might have been a good idea to convince him to take a break. Innovation thrives not on spite alone, but it does help.]
Meredith was past her university days, but she had offered to come help with the elevator construction project. What point was there to having magically-granted super strength if one didn't use it, after all? That said, she wasn't planning on just standing there holding a small bundle of metal rods and rails all day.
"Ah-" He paused in what he was doing for a moment, goggles pushed up to his hairline as he looked over the parts. "-You can hand those to Blitzcrank, I'll be needing a few of those shortly."
On cue the Golurk he was sitting on held out a hand, close to the ground for easier access.
[Ratio teaches advanced math and physics classes five days a week. He doesn't tolerate being interrupted and is known to have excellent aim with a piece of thrown chalk, so be sure to raise your hand if you have a question, and stay on topic. If you have something you want to ask that isn't classwork related (or are just too shy about looking stupid in front of people), you can catch him after the lecture while he's packing up, instead.
On April 1st, there are numerous rubber ducks hidden around the classroom, and he's not taking them home afterward so any that don't get discovered right away are still there to be found throughout the month.]
Office Hours
[On Wednesday afternoons, the door to his faculty office is open for anyone who wants to drop by. The intent is to help students with any questions they might have that need more time than a quick conversation between classes, but if he doesn't have anyone who actually needs the help he might not shoo you away just for being off-topic. His office is tidy and professional, lined with bookshelves and a few tasteful art pieces. Captain Quacken also sits on one of the shelves.]
Around Campus
[He spends a fair amount of time around campus in general as well, even outside of classes and office hours. He likes the library, and with the weather warming up he's taken to reading outdoors on sunny days, a long-standing habit of previous years which the university's move into a giant tree has not managed to dissuade him from. The tree's habit of dropping inexplicable apples on him, however, just might - if your timing is good, you might see him step aside from a falling fruit, or resignedly catch one after it bounces off his head.
After verifying that people who can't see magic are still explaining away things they can't understand, he's also resorted to using his wings to fly between walkway levels when he wants to get from place to place. Do you dare ask him for a ride?]
[Leave it to Viktor to think 'taking a break' from actively putting together a functional elevator actually meant 'studying in the library for a couple hours'. He glanced up briefly upon hearing someone else come in, almost immediately focusing back on whatever book currently had his attention.]
Doctor. [or as normal people would say, 'hello'.] I should have little problem getting to the university and resuming my usual schedule, so if you find yourself in need of a teaching assistant, feel free to let me know.
[Unfortunately for everyone else, they speak the same language and have the same set of priorities. He offers a friendly nod when his attention is called.]
I'm glad to hear that, and I may just take you up on it. Becoming aware of the existence of magic last June has also led to an understanding of just how unusual some of my students are, and I can't claim I wouldn't find an extra pair of hands useful from time to time.
[In a different timeline, apprenticing Varian alone could take up most of his attention.]
[Edward waves a hand from where he's perched, picking cherry blossoms out of his hair. Occasionally the wind blows more into his face and he spends a couple seconds sputtering and spitting out petals that got into his mouth.]
Just enrolled into one of the courses here. [One of the history courses, in fact, to fill in the gaps of the knowledge he's gleaned from the past few years staying here.] I thought I might see you here—mind if I ask for a ride to American History Since 1865?
[Of course it's Edward who has the audacity. Ratio will raise his eyebrows, but he's more surprised to see Edward here at all than that the pirate is asking for a lift.]
It's a little out of my way, but I suppose I can take a passenger. [He'll take the opportunity to fly up and, surprisingly, hover next to the branch where Edward is perched. Owl wings are not made for hovering this way, but the now-glowing Anemo Vision attached to his bag seems to be making up the difference with a convenient updraft.] Grab hold, I can't maintain this for too long yet.
[The non-magical university had its own place. Takame did not often go by there, he had little reason to. However Cygnus Academy was just another University with a bit of additional curriculum related to the paranormal. Still have your math and sciences though so no escaping that.
But Takame was one of the many instructors. You might find yourself spectating one of his self defense classes, sometimes in an actual small classroom to explain verbally the reasons why a means of defense might hurt you over helping. If you are close with him, he allows sitting directly in on such lessons but if you aren't, he'll gladly speak with you after they are done.
Alternatively, he could be found in the courtyard as sword instruction required considerably more room even with practice swords. And the weather was becoming nicer, so he allowed instruction to take place outside on a few days.
If none of those suit your fancy, there's a fair percent chance that he went on some sort of coffee run for a few other instructors. And is now carrying like three different Starbucks orders at once on his way back to campus. Please help him.]
Ritsuka, as part of her efforts to try to reclaim some sense of normalcy, had started taking a few classes at Cygnus. Just a few, though, because unlike going through the motions in a singularity, this required actual effort, and saner heads had prevailed upon her to take it slow at first. That, and the fact that she always felt a little guilty if her dad Waver had to spend much time helping her out, even if he was always more than willing to.
In any case, this meant that Cygnus had now been added to her list of typical haunts, and while she tried not to butt in and pester faculty she happened to know too much, seeing the poor dragon-man trying to balance that many coffee cups at once gave her pause.
Ah, Yusuke. [Well, that was one less order Takame needed to bring over, certainly. If his hands (and tail) weren't full he'd hold his boyfriend but. Well.]
The barista behind the counter had run out of carriers. They seemed so apologetic... and though I had many orders, I informed them they needn't worry and carried them out myself...
[Which would have been easier if Takame were ordering one or two things. But he had more than that.]
[Is Lyney a student? Nope. Is he here at least once a week anyway? Yep! Look, his cousin is here and Lyney is many things including "clingy as fuck", "eager to take care of his family," and "desperately in need of people at least four out of seven days a week". Bringing Bailey lunch once or twice a week solves most of these problems!
Also the student union is never going to complain about cheap, quality entertainment and he is very willing to get paid to perform some magic in the union building or on the grounds once in a while.
So you might find Lyney just wandering around the campus or performing! Please do not comment on the tail where normies are. Yes his tail is out. Yes he is aware this makes the normies think he's some kind of furry. He would argue they are not inherently wrong.
If you go looking, though, you might find him napping somewhere away from the students. He has no regrets.]
[ Haitham also happened to be on his way to find Bailey. Usually he would wait if he suspected that Lyney was around. Family things were nothing he had experience with, so all he could figure was they wanted time or something.
This time he was waiting, bag in hand that he had planned to hand off. Instead, his gaze catches sight of Lyney probably on his way toward the same destination. Haitham pauses, watching and looking at the bag he was holding, contemplating its contents. Maybe he would wait until later. They would inevitably run into one another, but in the meantime he was going to lean against the wall, in no rush to bring attention to himself. ]
People are going to start thinking you're a student here.
[Lyney doesn't notice Haitham, so when he speaks Lyney's tail puffs up and there may or may not be a noise very much like a surprised cat. Once he spots Haitham, though, Lyney relaxes with a laugh.]
Oh, I perform here too much for that confusion! ...hopefully. I'm not meant for college--but tell me, when did we move to a treetop?
[ Varian didn't always have a fear of heights. There was a time, back in the world he came from, where he was kept in a rock cage, suspended over a two hundred foot drop. Sure, it have been uncomfortable and inconvenient but he hadn't hated it. Even when he'd been thrown off the edge of that drop and fell for a frighteningly long time and managed to somehow not die after it, heights hadn't bothered him. It had been fine.
But then he came here and got earth element into him and now getting a few feet off the ground makes him wanna pass out. The university having a tree growing around it overnight had been deeply distressing. Some teachers (thanks, Ratio!) have left him a shadowy corner he can shadow jump into, but not all of them are so helpful. Sure, he's giving Viktor a hand in building the elevator, but that will take time and he still has to attend classes. So you might find him slowly walking up the tree, holding onto guardrails and either staring dead ahead or having his eyes closed all-together. He's... definitely not going at a great speed here. ]
Please tell me we're nearly at the Chem lab.
Around campus
[ The problems with being up high aside, you can find Varian around campus all month during the weekday. He doesn't spend much time in the social areas of the campus, but you'll see him in various science and math based classes, as always being an obnoxious overachiever and having answers for every question the processor might ask. Or perhaps you'll find him at the library, piles of books beside him as he pours over his homework - taking notes and muttering chemical or mathematical equations under his breath. You might even see him in the cafeteria, his lunch getting cold as he focuses on Macgyvering some weird contraption out of condiment containers and cutlery. Why is he doing this? No reason. Just to make something. ]
[A ten foot tall machine(?) caught up to Varian with the sound of a rocket booster where its legs should have been, hovering nearby with a massive hand extended.]
Get on, he won't hurt you. [Sitting on its shoulder, Viktor gestured with the hand not holding the crutch leaaing against his own shoulder.]
[ Varian wasn't really expecting this today, he opens one eye to look at Viktor and his- ]
...Is that a Golurk?
[ It had been a pokemon he'd been tempted with himself, but his heart will always belong to Zigzagoons. He knows he's a trash panda in his heart. Still, clambering onto a flying robot doesn't seem super better than where he is right now, but at least he won't be alone.
...Plus Varian really does love giant robots. ]
Oooookay, here goes. [Very gingerly, he reaches over to stumble onto the robot's palm, trying his best to not look down. ] Ohhhhhhhhhhhhh man, I miss when I wasn't so freaked out about heights.
Office [ You will not catch him awake, or at least that's the way it will appear. Inside that small space, Haitham was leaned on his hand to the side with his eyes closed, calm and peaceful with his headphone covering his ears. It was easy to nap in the quiet parts of the day when no one was coming or going and all the paperwork on his desk was in a nice, neat stack.
When the door opens, so does his eyes, looking at anyone who comes to bother him. Picking himself up to sit straight, he makes no other move to greet his guest or ask why they've come. The stare he gives says it all, and he is waiting. ]
Library [ Within the Library, Haitham can be found half slid down his chair, reading his latest book find in a quiet corner of the large space. Despite the very 'do not disturb' manner he can be found in, it was the perfect time to present him with requests or questions. ]
[Jin Ling pokes his head in, a bag slung over his shoulder. He's thought about this for a while, made steps towards it, and now here he is to see it through. When he'd been in the Black Order, college had been the last thing on his mind, but now—well. He won't know how he'll do, he thinks, unless he tries. That's the spirit, Casper cheerfully says in his head, their presence warm.
Jin Ling lets out a breath, calms his nerves.]
Yeah, hi? My name's Jin Ling. Although legally I'd be Jin Rulan. [He grimaces at his legal name, rarely used.] I'm here to ask about admissions...?
[ He's seen this guy scream on the network. That was the first thought Haitham had as he looks at the young man who entered his office. He could send him to a different office, but something about the man's nerves, or maybe the color yellow, provokes him to just ... stare at him for a moment. ]
Sit.
[ He did have the papers required to fill out. They all had to cross his desk eventually anyway. If he handled it himself, he could assure they were handled correctly. But... first things first. ]
I can handle it. What field of study do you want to go into?

[for someone who isn't afraid of heights, regardless of how dizzyingly high they may be, it isn't too surprising that kni would like climbing the university tree. he never goes too far (where others can see him) out, but anyone watching him balance along the branches big enough to hold his weight might still be worried. good luck getting him down without going up there yourself.]
[Diarmuid's work attention was primarily split within Cygnus since it was more established. But he began as a Teacher's Assistant in various science departments within Kaisou University, not even just Waver's classes. As a result, he had many a friend he liked to visit from time to time to buy lunch.
He was coming off of one of those visits when he passed by the music room hearing someone play with pretty incredible speed. Practice, perhaps? Either way, he stood in the doorway of the room for a moment to simply listen. When the player stopped for any extended point, either due to a small mistake or just wanting another practice round there was a soft clapping from Diarmuid.]
I see that you have a great talent for music, young man.
[he'd been considering calling it quits for today, fingers starting to ache, and frustration building at how clumsy he still felt even with so much practice. it just wouldn't do, failing in perfection at something that meant absolutely nothing in the grand scheme of things.
yet he's tempted... another hour, maybe two, of practice couldn't hurt. dinner wouldn't be for another few hours, not that kni cared about eating on a schedule like most people, but having wolfwood gruff at him for walking in when everyone was already seated was far from ideal.
thoughts of extending his piano time are dashed when he's joined by another in the music room. kni looks back, one hand moving to fidget with the sweater hood that had fallen back during his practicing.]
It should be better. [a pause. he looks back to the keys.] ... But thank you.
