April Event Log

April Event
Dominant Element: Earth
Waning Element: Water

"April Showers brings May flowers", as the saying goes. As as it seems in Kaisou, the saying rings very much true. Throughout the month, routine rain showers will blanket the city. It's the type of rain that's not heavy enough to cause flooding, just heavy enough to make for puddles and soak anyone who forgets an umbrella. On days that it's not raining, the weather is warm and spring-like. Green is appearing on the trees in bright colors and the early spring flowers are in full bloom.

Springtime in Kaisou

After a long winter, spring is finally in full swing. Even amongst all the rain, Kaisou seems to be renewed with the kind of vigor you only find during springtime. Restaurants break out their outdoor seating during sunny days, and there's plenty of sidewalk sales from various shops. On the weekends, the Farmer's Market in Central Square has begun it's yearly operations. You should stop by for a visit if you want some fresh produce and artisan goods sold at reasonable prices. While most of the stuff there is of the mundane variety, you'll find a few merchants selling more paranormal related items such as supernatural plants (mandrake, lady's mantle, etc) and potions that are both fresher and cheaper than what you normally find in Undertown.

Out in the Entertainment District, a strange looking building has appeared called the Gold Saucer. It's a casino and amusement park, full of fun activities including shopping, casino games, an arcade, and chocobo racing- completely normal stuff! Meanwhile out in Kami State Park, a new hot springs has opened up! Come relax in the warm waters, take a spa day, and fully live out your anime dreams. Both of these attractions, while being brand new, are treated by locals like it's always been around. Rather curious, you have to say.

Meanwhile in Undertown, the surge in people new to the paranormal has caught notice. Starting in April, the Enki Education Center (or EEC) will open its doors! The EEC will offers classes on various supernatural topics such as basic spellworking, potionbrewing, enchantments, creatures of the Spirit Realm (taught by Professor Willow), how to make the most of your abilities, and Microsoft Excel. There are classes created to appeal to different basic age groups (child, teen, adult), and these classes can either be a one-time seminar to a multi-week course. Classes are either paid for with money (with potential discounted rates for low income folks), or with the exchange for items from the Spirit Realm.

The EEC isn't the only new spot in Undertown! Just outside of Undertown's entrance, there is a new Denny's! Or rather, you think it's new but everyone else seems to act like it's always been there. Strangely enough, you can't find it using any map or GPS-based apps and it's not listed on any websites. While inside the Denny's, all clocks are frozen at 2am. The menu has all the standard Denny's meals, but also have some more unusual dishes such as Apple Blood, pie you have to imagine to eat, and a dish made of worms. Curiously no time seems to pass while you're in the Denny's, so it might be a great spot to go if you need extra time.

Finally, near the Zodiac offices a new pet shop has opened up! Remember back in February when Zodiac asked you to bring them some Pokemon? Well it seems they figured out how to breed those Pokemon that were handed over. The pet shop is full of dog, cat, rodent, and bird Pokemon (not including any legendaries or fossils) that you can buy for a prize slightly higher than a normal pet. All these Pokemon are mostly depowered while in the city, and will have to learn how to use their powers properly while in the Spirit Realm as they've been bred in captivity. Aren't you guys glad to see your work pay off?

Egg Hunt

While Easter Egg hunts are normally reserved for children, it seems the Spirit Vein has other thoughts on the matter. Throughout the town, beautifully decorated eggs are scattered around in easy-to-spot hiding places. Under a bench, behind your coffee mug, in your mailbox - some of them may even be stashed in places that you're pretty sure no one else would have access to. Some of these eggs are normal hardboiled eggs, while others are made of wood and can be opened up. Inside these wooden eggs, you'll find one of three options: a piece of chocolate, a coin or bill of ANY currency that equates to about $1 USD in value, or a slip of paper that has a piece of information about another person on the app. This information could be public knowledge, a lesser known fact, or even a secret they've never told anyone. What you do with this information? It's entirely up to you.

The Dream of the Simple Life

On the night of April 12th, any character who sleeps will have the same dream. They will dream of a beautiful valley full of nature and small farms, but the dream is tinged with a sense of sadness - as if whatever is being shown here is long gone. In this dream, some strange looking creatures will speak to you. "We are the Junimos... Keepers of the forest. Please!" they say, "Please help restore our home!"

The following morning, April 13th, a new message from Zodiac is sent out

ALERT: POTENTIAL STABLE GATE IDENTIFIED IN CENTRAL SQUARE.
Element Classification: Earth
Danger Level: C
Designation: Stardew Valley
A new gate has been detected in Central Square Station. No reported hostility yet but there are some signs of dangerous elements. Foreign energy readings have been detected in the gate, causing it to destabilize. Zodiac request that you investigate and resolve the source of the destabilization. Durable work clothes are recommended.

The Zodiac Office is much calmer than last month. They explain that they too were contacted by the mysterious dream creatures. It seems this realm was once a peaceful nature realm, but something has caused it to fall out of balance. The researchers at Zodiac also have hope that if they are able to resolve the imbalance issue, they may be able to tether this realm to the city - allowing for the first stable gate in Kaisou. While they offer the usual weapons, they also offer a number of gardening tools. Strange! They will also note that just like the last realm, it seems time moves differently while in the realm. By their estimates, it's several days in that realm to an hour in Kaisou. In other words, don't worry too much about missing work. They also reassure that they've updated the Libra app to help keep better track.

Once you're all ready to go, it's off to Central Square Station, the train and subway station that's near the city hall of Kaisou. Standing on the east platform, a train that looks older than the other trains will pull up, with a destination sign of "STARDEW VALLEY". None of the normal people around you take any notice of the train, acting as if there's no train at all. Getting onto the passenger car, the train whistle will blow and the train will set off. A few minutes into the ride, you'll find yourself nodding off. Don't sleep? You'll either zone out or just black out.

When you wake up, you're no longer on the train but rather in the bed of a very small and old farm house, except three more beds have also been crammed into this tiny house - meaning you'll be sharing a place with up to four other people. There's also a small bathroom attached, with only a toilet and a sink. Any stuff that you brought with you has been carefully set on the table. There's an old TV that works, but only has three working channels: a weather channel, a fortune telling channel that'll give a personal horoscope for the day, and a channel that's all about giving farming tips and cooking recipes. On the table next to any stuff you brought, there's a to-do list that reads:

  • Clear farmland
  • Plant new crops
  • Harvest new crops
  • Cleanse the land
  • Restore the town
  • Restore the train station

Stepping out of this home, you'll find the house sits on a farm that's been overgrown with weeds, rocks, and trees. Scattered across the farmland are other farm houses as well, where other people who arrived on the train with you have been housed. This is the farmland that was meant to be cleared, so it's best to roll up your sleeves and get to work! Work together to pull up weeds, break stones, and cut down trees. For anyone who didn't bring tools, there's two boxes outside their farmhouse. The first one holds tools: a shovel, a pick, an axe, a scythe, a hoe, a fishing pole, and a watering can that can be refilled in the pond on the farm. The second box contains a bunch of plant seeds for spring growing: parsnips, potatoes, garlic, coffee beans, green beans, strawberries, rhubarb, kale, and tulips.

Once enough farmland has been cleared, it's time to get to planting. While having gardening knowledge certainly helps doing this, farming in this realm seems a lot easier. Till the land, spread some seeds, and water of them is all that needs to happen. Just a few days of watering will all the plants need before they're ready to be harvested (though you may have to fight off crows from eating them). That said, all of this can be rather tiring work, so you'll have to watch your energy levels to make sure you don't collapse. If you do collapse, you'll wake up back in the bed you woke up in. If anyone is around to witness your collapse, they will watch a group of Junimos appear and work together to haul the unconscious body back into the farmhouse before disappearing again. Nice fellows! Anyone who stays up too late in this realm will experience the same thing. Whenever 2am rolls around in the realm? Everyone that hasn't gone to bed will immediately collapse and wake up the next morning at 6am in their bed.

That said, you'll also need to eat as time passes in the realm. This might be difficult, as there's no real kitchen in your farmhouses. The advice show on the tv will give tips on how to forage tree seeds (such as pine cones, acorns and maple seeds) and spring foraging items. But don't worry, they'll show you how to make a field snack out of all those tree seeds you foraged (the taste is...acquired). You can attempt to fish from the pond on the farmland, but besides the tiniest of fish you're more likely to fish out garbage and unopened Joja Cola cans - which tastes basically like an off-brand coca-cola. If you got hunting skills and brought your own weapons, you might be able to hunt squirrels and rabbits - just be sure to cook them over a campfire first. Basically, you're going to be roughing it those first few days.

True to Zodiac's word, a new feature can be found on the Libra app. The feature is two clocks: one that tracks the time in Kaisou and one that tracks time in the Realm. Sure enough, every day that passes in the realm is no more than 20 minutes in Kaisou.

Exploring the Valley

There's no viable way out of the realm on the farm, so you'll have to explore. The valley layout can be divided into three sections from the farm: Cindersap forest to the south, the mountain to the north, and Pelican Town to the east. However no matter which direction you go, you'll quickly notice that there's something very wrong with this realm: black and red cursed spots span across the land- sapping the color and life out of anything near them. Any living creature has either been turned to stone or mutated into monstrous versions of themselves. Likewise, directly touching any cursed spots will cause a great amount of pain and weakness through your body. This must be the foreign energy reading the Zodiac post spoke of. It'll need to be cleansed if you want this realm to turn to its former state.

Cindersap Forest: Marnie's Farm and Wizard Tower

Cindersap Forest was once a beautiful forest, full of trees great for lumber and complete with a river and lake that were once great fishing spots. There are two sources of the curse in the cindersap forest: Marnie's Ranch on the east side and the wizard tower in the west side. Marnie's Ranch has been overrun with the livestock, that have been cursed to walk on two legs and carry weapons, attacking anyone that gets near! Great! You'll have to find a way to get past these violent farm animals and get inside the ranch house. In one of the bedrooms, the curse source will be found: a pair of purple boxer shorts. Just removing them from the ranch will be enough to undo the curse and make the animals return to being normal animals-- but maybe you want to burn them for good measure. Just maybe.

Meanwhile at the Wizard's Tower, the tower has been overrun with slimes. These slimes are easy to defeat on their own, but can become dangerous when they group up or if you aren't careful. The tower itself is full of spell glyphs, spellbooks, and a cauldron with an unknown potion brewing. Be careful not to knock into any of these or you might get cursed. Defeating every slime in the tower will cleanse the tower.

Once both Marnie's Ranch and the Wizard Tower are cleared, all of Cindersap Forest will return to its former glory! You can now get actual fish from the river and lake, forage for better food, or buy a hat at the hat shop run by a mouse in the southern part of the forest (as per usual for a forest). Back on the farm, a barn will appear that's full of livestock (cows, pigs, sheep, horses, goats), as well as a chicken coop (full of chickens, ducks, rabbits, and void chickens). There's a box in each building that contains anything you'd need to care for these animals, and these animals can be cared for and used to get different animal products (milk, eggs, wool, etc). There's even machines that can be used to make cheese or mayo. Nice!

The Mountains: Robin's Carpentry Shop and the Adventurer's Guild

The mountains on the northern side of the valley were once a great place to go hiking and mining, but you'll need to clear the curse if you want it to return to that. Like Cindersap forest, there are two cursed spots: the Carpentry shop to the west, and the Adventurer's Guild to the east. At the carpentry shop, the cursed item is an unassembled ikea loft bed that you'll have to assemble -- without any instructions.

If you're not up to the challenge, the Adventurer's Guild has been overrun with skeletons to fight. Fight the skeletons, and that'll remove the curse. Much easier, right?

Once both challenges have been completed, the curse on the mountains will be lifted and you'll be free to explore. The mine is currently closed at this time, so you'll have to return to that later. However there's plenty to mine in the quarry and another fishing spot for all you fish enthusiasts. Meanwhile back on the farm, all the farmhouses will be upgraded so they will have a kitchen to actually cook things and a personal bedroom for everyone.

Pelican Town: Stardrop Saloon

A quiet rural town that too has been overtaken by the curse. In the town, there are several sources of the curse, one for each building. However before you can start to figure out where to start, your character will hear a male voice whisper in their ear to stop by the Saloon.

In the Stardrop Saloon, you'll find a mysterious man. He's a very charming and friendly man, but he does not give his name and simply states that he came to visit to have some of the fine liquor this realm offers, only to find it in such an dreadful state. Seeing that you're here to help, he says he has the perfect suggestion: a party to liven things up around here. And so you'll be invited to drink, dance, and party with this mysterious stranger. And what a party it is! With a snap of his finger, there's an endless supply of wine (juice for you any unable to drink alcohol) and party food. Musicians appear in the corner, ready to play any kind of music throughout the night. The air itself has a festive feeling to it, as if just being around this stranger causes you to get into the party mood. Characters will feel themselves loosen up, being more willing to get into the party mood and maybe say or do some things they normally wouldn't have to nerve to. Sing songs, play games, dance, tell great tales- just have the best time you can have! The night you spend partying with the stranger will be the only night that you can stay up past 2am, since what's a good party if it doesn't last until dawn?

While the stranger is happy to talk, flirt and tell stories (usually fun legends he's learned through the ages) - he'll evade any questions about himself or what he knows about the Spirit Realm. However, anyone who is possessed by a god who chats him up will have a sense that there's something familiar with about him. If he catches your staring, he'll give a wink and say "So you're with them huh? Haha, well then! Tell your patron sometime that ol' D says hello.". He does not elaborate further.

The next day you'll wake up either back in your farmhouse or wherever you passed out during the party. No matter how much you drunk, you don't have a hangover. Pelican Town is fully restored, with all the cursed spots resolved, but the mysterious stranger is nowhere to be found. With the town restored, you can now shop at the various shops. Not only that, but you can sell anything you make on the farm for money. Not bad!

Aftermath

Talking to all the townspeople who are now unfrozen will reveal that they are normal townspeople who don't seem to have much sense of what's life like outside their valley. They also only vaguely recall the curse as a bad storm. If you haven't destroyed those purple shorts, you'll find that they belong to the old mayor Lewis, who left his lucky shorts by accident after an, ahem, evening with the Ranch owner Marnie.

I warned you you should've burned those shorts.

Once every region of the Valley is cleansed, the Junomino will appear on the farm to thank everyone! They will inform you that they've repaired the train that'll take them back to Kaisou. While there's still more work that needs to be done in the valley, that can wait for another time. The train station can be found up in the mountains, north of the Carpentry shop. Riding the train will return everyone back to Kaisou, safe and sound. If you had to the Zodiac office, they'll be extremely pleased at your efforts and reward you with money. They'll also inform you that this particular gate has been successfully tethered- meaning Stardew Valley will always be a place you can return to, should you ever want to revisit the simple life.

OOC Notes

The dominant element this month is earth! Anyone with an affinity to the fire element will find themselves boosted throughout the month. This could mean a boost to their power, having more energy, feeling more inspired with creativity, having better luck on different attempts -- the boost can manifest in all sorts of different ways. By contrast, anyone with an affinity for water will be experiencing the opposite. Perhaps their powers will be weaker, they have less energy, they're having a creative block or general worse luck - again it can manifest in all sorts of way and players are free to play with this mechanic as they'd like.

Regarding housing of the farmhouses, whoever you share a farmhouse with is up to you! There are a maximum of four occupants per house. However for the sake of building CR, only one of your roommates can be someone your character resides with back in Kaisou. If you want a random pair up, please comment to the roommate finder on the OOC plotting. If you rather not find a roommate and handwave them being somewhere in the farm, you can do that too! It's purely optional.

Any fights or interactions with NPCs will be handled by the players! Feel free to thread out things however you'd like! If you have any questions, please ask them on the plot questions thread below! The original OOC plotting post for this event can be found here.

[Katsuki eyes that pile of change critically for several silent moments of contemplation before it dawns on him with horrific clarity what is going on here.]

You meant one hundred nickels???

[What the fuck?]
prontissimo: (ancora tu)

[personal profile] prontissimo 2022-05-15 08:57 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Alberto looks up at him with an odd, open-faced, semi-skeptical expression, before narrowing his eyes smugly, flattening his tone. ]

What— you don't want a hundred of these, do you?

[ He picks up a penny and starts tauntingly tossing it in his hand, flipping it idly as he stares at Katsuki sarcastically. ]

[Instead he inhales slowly and deeply, counts to five in his head and exhales slowly.

And then he's getting down on his knees in the middle of the goddamn forest to help this potential cryptid of a teenage boy count fucking nickels. Sincerely. This feels like an encounter with a cryptid. A being parading as a child and carrying around a sock full of loose change like that's a normal thing to do.

For all he knows these nickels are fucking cursed. But he isn't backing down now even if he really doesn't want one hundred goddamn nickels jingling and jangling in his pockets and probably bruising his thighs from the sheer weight and bulk of them... first chance he gets he's dumping them on someone.]

Let's get this over with. Stack em up in stacks of ten. It'll make this whole thing less of a migraine.

[personal profile] prontissimo 2022-05-18 03:51 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Katsuki is 100% on point about Alberto being a cryptid creature parading as a child and he has no idea how on the nose he really is. No curses other than the curse of Alberto's company, however.

A wide, triumphant smirk spreads across Alberto's face, holding eye contact with Katsuki with narrowed eyes, before leaning forward to start counting as told. Separating into stacks is a great idea, though he's not saying it out loud; cuz he was really just gonna count one-by-one... Oy.

It takes a moment of silence between them, all but for the soft noise of the forest and the soft clinking of coins, before Alberto strikes up a more conversational conversation... at least getting the basics out of the way. ]

...Alloraaa... what's your name, anyway, huh?

[Katsuki fixes him with a sharp, calculating look before finally deciding to answer civily.]

Bakugou Katsuki. What's yours?
prontissimo: (nella tua squadra)

[personal profile] prontissimo 2022-05-21 11:18 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Alberto notices the deliberation behind that sharp look, and it raises a brow, drawing out his own deliberative response, because... all he asked was his name...? Does that take that much thought to give? But with his voice drawn out a little slower, he does give his own name without hesitation, just... confusion and skepticism over Katsuki's hesitation... ]

...Alberto Scorfano... Piacere...?

[ Because, really, is it a pleasure? He's not sure it has been so far. Hm. But polite enough, perhaps? He turns his attention back to sorting the coins. ]

So are you from here, or— I mean, here-here, or the city, or somewhere else in America, orrr...?

[ How should he know if Katsuki's a local Stardewian or not? He's just some random teenager scavenging in the woods, the same as Alberto. But that doesn't mean they're the same, after all. ]
callmekacchan: Neutral (Brat)

[personal profile] callmekacchan 2022-05-22 12:14 am (UTC)(link)
[Not a hard decision, no. Just. Still kind of feeling out the fact that this is sort of working out somehow? Katsuki is aware he's not the most easy guy to get along with.

But Alberto has clearly latched onto something here so he has to be on the right track somewhere... remains to be seen if that's a good thing or not.

He also doesn't speak Italian. But he can discern through context generally what Alberto is probably saying. Yeah he's not so sure it's a pleasure either. But it's... something.

He makes a mental note to start studying if he's going to be talking to Alberto again. He's a stupidly fast learner so it's never even a question to him if he should spend time on it. He'd like to know when he's being insulted. And also actions are easier than words will ever be. And Katsuki is extra like that? Aggressively bond(?) with Italian kid, start learning Italian? Yeah that's about reasonable to him. They're... sort of managing civil for now anyway?]

Japan. Moved to America--to Kaisou--for college. You're not from America either are you? Moved here or got dropped here from some other world?
prontissimo: (avuto ad incontrare noi)

[personal profile] prontissimo 2022-05-26 10:17 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Alberto would be absolutely floored to find out Katsuki's already considering brushing up on his Italian just from one conversation with Alberto. He's not fixing to learn Japanese. Sorry. He didn't even know there was more than just the Italian language, period, until he came here and magically spoke fluent English suddenly and found he almost effortlessly understands Spanish... like... what...? He'd never even seen a world map before arriving. He had zero concept of how the world looked outside of Italy — barely any concept of Italian geography...

...let alone Japan. He has even less to go off of than when he met someone Colombian — at least he knew about Colombian coffee. He's never even heard of Japan. Completely blank imagination. But that's a larger conversation, and Katsuki has asked a far more startling question. No one has asked outright if Alberto was magically dropped here from another world. Any time he's met someone, they've been in the same boat as him, or they'd tiptoed around the issue, if it ever even came up at all. So hearing Katsuki straight up say it...? More refreshing than he knows. And some hint of that shows on Alberto's face as he pauses his coin-sorting and looks back to Katsuki, the twitch of a smile growing on the corners of his lips, almost sly, but endearment crinkling the corners of his eyes, too. ]

...Hah. Yeah— the second one. One day, ecco!, I just randomly showed up here. Well— actually, a weird nightmare-y version of my home, first, then Kaisou. That was like— weeeeeeks ago, though. So I'm pretty great at this place by now~ [ Like "this place" is a verb. He goes back to sorting the coins with a conversational, dismissive little wave of his hand. ]

But I'm from Italy — near a little fishing town called Portorosso, in Liguria. It's super different than here... Definitely no magic Spirit crap— unless you count sea monsters, but, I mean, sea monsters aren't magic. They're just, y'know— people. [ Mentioned as casually as can be, nbd. ] Other than that, though, we just had normal humans and normal human stuff. No Everything Machines. None of the Internet and all that. Different money. Different food. Different buildings. ...Lot more cats...

[ Cuz cats are an important detail. Noticeable lack of stray cats compared to all the cats wandering around Portorosso. He kinda misses seeing them around, frankly. ]
callmekacchan: Neutral (Thinking about it)

[personal profile] callmekacchan 2022-05-26 11:05 pm (UTC)(link)
[He's just extra like that, okay? What, like it's hard to learn a new language? He already speaks English fluently. He even has the accent down. He's kind of a perfectionist about these things. Alberto won't even know he's learning it until Katsuki has a good, solid grasp on it. Enough to hold conversation.]

Labyrinths. The nightmare version of your home? Someone told me about 'em. Lots of people turning up here from other worlds. Meanwhile it seems like the rest of us picked out by Zodiac have memories from other worlds. Dunno what it all means. But they gotta be connected.

[Blunt and to the point. He's been turning it over in his head. The more people he talks to about it, the more he'll learn, right?]

So sea monsters just exist as a casual part of your world, huh? What's that like?

[He's not even going to question if Alberto is serious. I mean... he already knows weird shit exists. Well before he got to Kaisou he knew.]

prontissimo: (nella tua squadra)

[personal profile] prontissimo 2022-06-09 01:59 pm (UTC)(link)
[ The mention of memories from other worlds draws Alberto's attention back up, cocking his brow curiously at Katsuki. He's far more interested in that than detailing anything about sea monster life in Portorosso, and certainly is keen to cast the spotlight away from himself in that regard... He pauses before returning to the coin count, searching for his words. ]

Uhh— It's fiiine... If you believe in that kind of thing. Lots of people back home do, at least. People hunt sea monsters there— or— they used to. Not really anymore.

[ Smoothing right on past that. Keeping it vague enough to deter suspicion, he thinks. But he doubles down with more curiosity and intensity, glancing back up to Katsuki cautiously as he keeps sorting through the change. ]

What do you mean, though, "memories from other worlds?" Like— memories you don't... remember... but remember?

[ That's surely the best way to phrase that, yes. And a far more interesting conundrum than sea monsters, pfft...! ]
callmekacchan: Neutral, Safe (Misleadingly calm)

[personal profile] callmekacchan 2022-06-13 01:01 am (UTC)(link)
[He files the sea monster thing away for later. But the whole... memories of another life thing is also really fascinating to him too?]

Yeah. Sort of like there's a me in another world and I've been seeing his memories? He seems like he's kind of an asshole.

[He says as if he isn't also an asshole. But it's different, he reasons? He can't put into words how. It just is.]

So if you guys are coming from other worlds and the people from here are remembering other worlds, those two things gotta be connected, right?
prontissimo: (è una formalità)

[personal profile] prontissimo 2022-06-16 02:50 pm (UTC)(link)
[ He stops stacking coins to look up at Katsuki with an incredulous, bewildered face. ]

Wait— another you...? In another world? Who has another life? Seriously?

[ His brow knots softly, casting his gaze askance thoughtfully. ]

...What d'you think it means?
callmekacchan: Neutral (Thinking about it)

[personal profile] callmekacchan 2022-06-16 03:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Not sure. Maybe... the barrier between realities is super thin for some reason? Could be these different worlds are like... converging? Like this place? This is like... a whole other world too, right? And we could just waltz right in because the gate opened.

[He's been thinking about it. A lot. But he's no closer to an answer, honestly.]

There could be worlds out there with other versions of you too, maybe. Lived whole different lives. The me in this other world could like... make explosions with his bare hands. I can't do that.
prontissimo: (marcello mastroianni)

[personal profile] prontissimo 2022-06-24 01:02 am (UTC)(link)
[ This all draws a long look on Alberto's face, with an even longer pause. He steadily counts the coins, a bit slower actually, and wrestles with these ideas. It's stuff he thinks about, but he doesn't have much frame of reference for these ideas... He's had to kind of take it at face value. But now that he's been settled here a couple months— he does kinda wanna start asking the bigger questions, hearing shit like this now... Uneducated and ignorant though he may be, Alberto is intelligent and intellectual. Or at least aspires to be. So meeting people smarter than him— the only way to get smarter, too, right...? Katsuki's given him good food for thought. But for now, it is kind of over his head, a really huge concept that it'll take some time to chew on. So he errs on the side of humor in his awkwardness. ]

...I don't think the universe needs any extra Alberto's with explode-y powers running around in it, anywhere... Even I admit that'd be bad, hah.

[ He gives a wry little snort of a laugh in spite of himself, and picks up the pace counting again. But if Katsuki looks at his expression, it's written all over his face that he's actually still thinking quite deeply about this, more than his response lets on... It's too serious a face to wear while cracking a joke. ]

[Katsuki is ridiculously bright. To the point of it being frankly obnoxious at times. As Alberto learned first hand with the berries thing earlier. And even he's over his head a bit with this whole situation. So he lets Alberto joke about it without any fuss. Even offering his own wry response;]

Universe didn't need a version of me like that either, honestly. I bet he's an even bigger asshole than I am.

[He is self aware, okay? He also realizes they have probably well more piles of nickels than they actually need at this point. But the clacking sound and the distraction of counting and making neat little piles is kind of relaxing in a weird way? Alberto, weird and kind of infuriating as he is, is not a bad kid, Katsuki has decided.]

[ Alberto gives a huffy chuckle at that. He's not so used to self-deprecating humor, not at all his dad's general shtick, so Katsuki's wry insult against himself is probably funnier to Alberto than it'd be to most people. He does tune in, though, that they've counted enough coins, and quickly counts the stacks, pointing at each vaguely while mouthing the numbers barely with his lips, counting to ten in Italian under his breath. ]

otto... nove... dieci... Aight! That's one hundred. Hah. All yours~

[ He smirks at Katsuki, waving a dismissive hand at the ten stacks of ten nickels, but then starts putting the (many, many) other coins back in the sock... He takes his time doing so, gathering small handfuls and shifting his legs to another position to get more comfortable again, clearly not quick to up and leave evidently. In fact, he goes on with the conversation regardless, as another funny thought about potential alternate universes comes to his mind, and makes him laugh a little. ]

...If there's really another Another Universe version of me— I hope I have a mustache there. Hah~! But not a sad, wispy one like a catfish, heh, like a cool one. Haha~

[ Why d—... Why? Why. He tags on, though, glibly: ]

And, y'know, having a cool superpower too wouldn't hurt... Heheh...

[ Fuckin' kids, man... ]

[Katsuki eyes the nickels unhappily before starting to put his winnings in his pockets. Looking at Alberto when he speaks again.]

A mustache.

[That's... that's what Alberto is going with, huh? All the potential differences in the world. And he chooses... a mustache?

Katsuki considers that as he pockets the rest of his nickels and settles cross-legged on the ground to watch Alberto clean up the rest of the coins.]

Could be connected. Mustache and your super power. Could fight with your mustache. Like the guy in that one anime...

There’s a guy who fights with his mustache…?! Wh-What…?! You’re lying, pfft.

[ Alberto looks up in astonishment, barely containing his surprised laughter. Surely Katsuki’s just putting him on. He might be more in on the joke if he knew what anime was, though… ]

[He's not surprised. Even not currently aware that Alberto isn't from this time period, he's fairly sure the anime in question never made it to Italy? He grabs his phone and does his best to find a clip of what he's talking about. Even looking for the dub so Alberto can understand what's being said. Not that it makes much difference because it's... uhh... nonsensical either way?]

Yeah, no. See? It's a real show. I'm not making it up.

[This is... not the best introduction to anime. Man fights with facial hair sure is a concept someone came up with...]

[ Alberto leans forward to peer closer at the phone, narrowing his eyes as he watches the clip, wearing a most perplexed and dubious look for most of it, as he processes what he's watching... But when the star with his whipping mustache appears, indeed, a wide smirk starts spreading on his face. He turns back to Katsuki with a sly look in his eyes, his smile both deeply amused and bemused, tone drawn out and thick with humor... ]

...That's ridiculous, hah...

[ But Alberto's clearly not turned off by it. He's on board.

Except, he's, not, really... because he's missing a very important detail here, too, as he scoops up the last few handfuls of coins into the sock. ]

...So you like to draw, eh? Me, too— but I dunno how to make movies with my drawings...! How'd you do that?

[ He slings the sock up, bouncing it in his hand as if to test the weight — much lighter now with one hundred fewer nickels in it than before — and then plops backwards, propping himself up by his palms on the ground. Kid's very much a kid in every regard but for the fact that, despite knowing what a movie is, he's apparently never heard of cartoons...?! But like any modern kid, too, he's absolutely enamored now that he has. ]

[Katsuki squints at him, trying to decide if Alberto is pulling his leg here. But he seems pretty genuine. Maybe they don't have animation in Alberto's world?]

I didn't make it. If I could do something like that I definitely wouldn't be out here running around foraging for mushrooms and berries.

[Or sitting here on the forest floor apparently bonding with the weird cryptid kid? It's not lost on him that somehow they went from yelling at each other to talking civilly. Or that his pockets are still annoyingly full of nickels that are gonna piss him off the moment he goes to get up and remembers how their bet went. But for now all is good?]

What kinda stuff do you draw?

Hah! Hey, foraging can be fun even if you're rich and famous, eh~!

[ Alberto has obvious gaps in his cultural knowledge that are at odds with his lived experiences. He knows movies, but not cartoons. He values fame and fortune, but also values foraging for mushrooms and berries... It's hard to get a grasp on exactly what this kid's frame of reference looks like.

All the same, he seems eager to brag about his artistry. It's not lost on him, either, that they're smoothly getting along now, like nothing was ever amiss. Though, truth be told, Alberto may have lost the bet, but he's coming out the winner in this situation, because he just unloaded one hundred nickels on this poor schlub... This has been far less aggravating for Alberto than it has been for Katsuki. So it's easy for the kid to be so chill comparatively now. ]

Oh, I draw all kinds of stuff — mooostly stuff that happens in my life, y'know, like, stooories, kinda, or dreams, stuff I want to happen, but I'unno, other stuff, too! I've got tons of paper here. So, hah, I draw whatever. Vespas. Myself. People I know. People I don't know. Cats? Cats, heh... Rats, lately— hah...

[ W-Why is he drawing rats lately...? The temporal implication there is more worrisome than the subject matter somehow. But the bottom line is, he seems to favor a narrative element in his art, despite having never heard of cartoons. Plus the insinuation that paper used to be a scarcity back home, perhaps. Stranger and stranger yet... ]

[There sure is a lot about Alberto that is head-scratchingly strange. Just little pieces of some bizarre puzzle, all strangely shaped and baffling to put together. Animals, people and Vespas...]

Why are rats a recent addition?

[Considering everything else he's heard, he half expects that maybe Alberto only just learned rats exist or something...]

[ Katsuki would not be wrong in the slightest. But that detail doesn’t come to light right now. ]

Oh— This guy I know. My new roommate here. He likes rats. He has pet rats. I made one, too! This rat’s named Lorenzo. Ecco

[ He fishes his phone out of his pocket to show a photo of a roughly carved rat figurine sitting beside an actual rat, ostensibly on a bed. Rats in the bed, nbd. They’re pet rats, it’s different. The whittled figure doesnt bear such a strong resemblance to its model, but hey, it was his first time seeing a rat, and he carved it by eyeballing alone! It could be worse. ]
