Wow, my expectations for this month were on the floor, and it still managed to suck more than I thought it would.

Thanks to everyone who worked hard to keep us all from dying. From our analysis, the barrier you guys devised from the tower should keep the city safe for now. Unfortunately we haven't figured out how to expand the area of the barrier yet, so the edges of town are going to have to deal with a lot more spirit realm crap.

Including apparently a concerning looking mountain. No, we have no idea what's up with that because the Zodiac employees have used up all their overtime dealing with the Heartless. Nor do we have any idea why some of you are able to use brand new elements now. In fact, don't expect much back up from us for the next couple weeks. Anyone who isn't on R&R are busy preparing for the thanksgiving office potluck.

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to pretend to look busy while I try to distract my mind from the horrors. Bye.

[Literally, all Lan Zhan is doing is inspecting their blackout curtain situation and minding his own business. Weird app mysteriously and magically downloaded onto their phone? That can wait until after he figures out what he's going to do about the curtains literally being half a foot shorter than he needs them to be. They might have to see if they can get these returned and exchanged for the correct size, since he's 99.99% certain that these aren't the curtains he ordered. Good Lord, the state of things....]

[And then he hears a voice that has haunted his dreams for an embarrassingly long time. Lan Zhan could swear he hears a literal record scratch as it hits him.]

[Lan Zhan immediately pulls out his phone and accesses the app himself. While looking for that username, he also glances at Jiang Cheng to make sure that his friend doesn't do anything rash.

Not that he could blame him. Goodness knows Lan Zhan is one word away from doing something rash himself after hearing Wei Wuxian's voice.

He has the absurd urge to pace. Instead, he calmly sits down. Just... staring at the screen for a long moment. Lan Zhan hasn't felt this many emotions all at once in what feels like centuries. Over two decades of running from the Order and trying to help keep Jiang Cheng together, to make sure he's not as alone as Lan Zhan is, has been his primary goal. Every other emotional need has needed to be put on hold for the sake of survival.

But now Lan Zhan feels anticipation, relief, joy, and... fear. Just a little bit. Just enough to wonder if it's been too long. If there's nothing for them in this life. Or if Lan Zhan isn't up to Wei Wuxian's hopes and standards.

He takes a deep breath and lets it out slowly as he centers himself.]

[Lan Zhan finally sends Wei Wuxian a voice message. He... he just wants to hear his voice. Just a little bit, just to make sure it's not a coincidence or that he's losing his mind over a total stranger.]

[His heart is beating a mile a minute and he's... afraid. Afraid to be wrong. Afraid that Wei Wuxian never wants to see him in this life. Or that Wei Wuxian will just push him away like in the last one.]

Jiang Cheng makes a choked noise and begins to pace, his chest growing tight with the onslaught of emotions surging through him. it's almost ironic if he were to think about it, how different their reactions are to the sound of Wei Wuxian's voice. but he can't think about it, he can't even bring himself to look up and over at the other man in the room. he will see right through Jiang Cheng, know how desperately he wants to run both to and from the ghost of their shared past.
