[In a rare video appearance, Waver sat at his desk at the Academy restlessly twirling a pen in his hand.]

Given that precognitive projection seems to herald things going poorly in the near future, we're taking steps to establish a relative safe haven at Cygnus Academy; it may take some time, but the option to seek shelter there will be available as soon as we can find the space and fortify it.

[He set the pen down next to an open notebook, barely visible but full of arcane sigils in different shapes.]

I think I'm going to start pulling back from the University following this semester or the end of this year depending on how difficult transferring everything to another professor ends up being. That said, if anyone needs tutoring or anything similar, I'll be just as available as I am now. But it would be better for both my students and myself if my attention was focused on the Academy instead of spread quite so thin. At least partially to that end, I've decided to take up an apprenticeship with POKEGO--we're already working closely as it is, and it seems the best course of action to properly understand this world. Didn't think they'd admit me for how hacked off they got about the patent fraud. Suppose that's fair. For matters on that front, you can call me Blackthorn if you like.

[Anyway.]

Long story short and bottom line: you'll probably find me here a hell of a lot more often in the future. As for whatever happens this month...all we can do right now is prepare for the worst and hope for the best.

[Muttered almost as an aside:]

If the worst I have to deal with is that fucking skeleton waking me up this morning, that would be great, actually.

[When early afternoon hit, Waver spent a considerable amount of time around the building and the grounds. At first it probably looked like aimless wandering, but occasionally he would stop and frown at a notebook in his hand. Then he would trace a shape on the ground with the end of his cane, or against a wall with his fingertip.]

[...Or, perhaps, trying to move a bookshelf with his shoulder to facilitate said sigil-placing.]

Hey- [If someone passing by looked particularly inclined for a brief stint of furniture rearrangement, he'd call out with a small wave.] -think you can help me move this for just a second?

Ah. [This is the face of a man who knows he said something wrong.]

I am able to provide a final line of defense, however the barriers I create last a very limited time. I can provide full protection but only long enough to begin an evacuation process should the need arise. [And that hinged upon whether he had the power or not. Something to test, he supposed.]

We'll figure something out. Right now I'm hoping we'll be able to fortify this place enough that evacuation should end here rather than start, but...well, it's good to have contingency plans.

[His attention this entire time has been mostly on the Bounded Field and half on Waver, but for a moment he averted his eyes from both and his tail started twitching again.

Was it his place to ask? It was something a friend should know, was it not? It was Waver, he wouldn't get upset by it right? Hells with it.]

Huh? [He blinked at the change of subject, glancing briefly to Takame's tail.]

Yeah--today, actually. Why?

Ah. [Read: What do you MEAN it's today???]

Forgive me, I was curious as you mentioned it earlier. Rather the... the skeleton. [Why did he sound so guilty mentioning that? He cleared his throat.]

I assume you are not one to put much into this day. I am much the same, but it is something to be celebrated that you have come this far. [Takame you can just tell him Happy Birthday it's fine.]

It is safer to prepare where we can for now... but when whatever looms before us is settled perhaps we can go for a drink to do so. It'll be my treat.

I don't really celebrate much, you're right. Didn't hoenstly expect to make it to thirty, if we're being perfectly honest.

But...I think I'd like that.

Mm. Nor did I... I did not imagine I would see my seventeenth year, to say nothing of my thirty-second.

[Older than Waver and somehow aged more gracefully.]

Whatever comes to pass, may we settle it quickly and quietly. [He could hope. Just a little.]

...We'll be okay. So long as we're cautious and try to watch out for each other, I'm sure we'll at least manage to survive. As long as we pull that off, we'll figure out the rest afterwards.
