WHAT: There's a new grandpa in town, and he's marginally more well-adjusted than Zhongli! Marginally. This one at least knows how to manage his finances.
WARNINGS: This will be a little cursed most likely, and probably language!

So this is a weird, new app! Since I can't delete this thing, I'm gonna guess that it's not some weird community thing for Kaisou, right? Like a FB group for people to get strongarmed into--I mean join?

Guess it wouldn't hurt too much to intro myself since I'm new here. I'm Venti! I just moved here like. Today. Lovely place, the Spirit Vein up above really sets the mood!

Okay, so here's an icebreaker for you guys, just to have a little bit of fun!

Is cereal a soup? Alternatively, how do you say the word 'pecan?'

Ohhhh, someone with a very compelling answer! The point about the dish being enjoyed at its best is a sentiment I agree with wholeheartedly. Even defining oatmeal as cereal leads to the same conclusion. No matter how simple it is, the ingredients you use deserve to be respected, right?

But mm, that's exactly it. There are many things that look similar, but are completely different when given a closer look. Soup and cereal are a great example of that.

Yep! I heard that the supernatural community around here is pretty active, so it seems like a good place to live when you're also, you know, magical. I wasn't too happy living where I was, you know?

Well you're not wrong about the active supernatural community...

Where were you living before?

Los Angeles. A place that makes NYC feel closer to normal, I swear. At least Kaisou has more reasonable traffic and noise levels.

Oh wow, you were in LA? I've never been but I've heard a lot of stories about it- and what you see in movies of course.

Did you meet Zhongli there? It's hard to imagine him in such a modern place.

The movies aren't too terribly far off, honestly. Well, except that it's almost never quiet. The people there like to think that car horns are ways to communicate with each other.

Yeah, he does act like an old dinosaur, doesn't he? Nah, I met him on a trip to China a long time ago. I'm pretty sure he thought I was an annoyance at first 'cause even back then he had trouble understanding the concept of friendship. Not that I was particularly endearing at the time, either.

Is that so? that sounds like it could get rather tiring fast.

I suppose that's one way to describe it. [What he can't deny it] But that makes sense. He's my neighbor more than anything, so I can't really comment much on his friend making skills. Though I'd say he's been kind to me.

Yeah, if you like your peace and quiet, I don't suggest moving to LA or San Fran. Great to visit, kinda awful to live in.

Zhongli's a very kind person, as long as it doesn't involve contracts and promises. Whatever you do, make sure he never watches The Little Mermaid. Ursula's contracts might give him ideas and that'd be a bad thing. Anyway, other than that and his... uh... questionable ability to handle money, he's a good man. ...Kinda.

I'll keep that in mind.

Seriously? But Ursula's clearly the bad guy in that movie- does he really go that far with his contracts? I've only heard him mention them in passing before.

The only reason he wouldn't agree with Ursula is because she's an octopus.

[Uggghhh, that's the question that Venti really doesn't want to answer. So he makes this conversation private in the interest of keeping some of his friend's reputation intact.]

The short answer to that is yes. The long answer is that he's got a reputation for his mafia-like way of handling broken contracts. I've also seen it myself when people have tried to screw him over. While understandable, I wouldn't call it 'mess them up' worthy. Granted, in the time I've known him, he's only done that very rarely, and usually it's an "eye for an eye" punishment. Still... it's worrying.

Ah.

So he's still in his Old Testament phase.

I never thought of it like that, but it's so true!

That being said, I'm really hoping he's changed from that, but... change for him has always been slow. And now I gotta ask.

Do you have a guess to what he is?

[Ah, that question. There's a pause on his end, because Jun isn't one to spill the secrets that he knows]

My magical senses are sharper than most, so I have more than a guess.

[Well, that tells Venti everything, doesn't it? And some things he doesn't know.]

Hehe, good to know! I bet you can't turn that off very easily, so let me know if my presence starts making you uncomfortable, okay?

Well, guess the cat's out of the bag no matter what with you, and it's only fair I come clean. I've known him for centuries. I'm immortal myself, for better or for worse.

Thank you, but it should be alright. I'm fairly used to people with unusual energy patterns at this point.

I had a feeling as such. The fact you seemed familiar with both Xiao and Zhongli was something of a tip off.

I see Zhongli still hasn't learned how to be subtle. Ah, well. The immortality thing definitely makes it difficult for me to stay in one place. That was fine for a long time, but now with technology and how everything has changed globally, it's a lot more challenging to keep up that kind of lifestyle.

So, that's the biggest reason I'm in Kaisou, actually. People started getting suspicious about my lack of aging, and I needed to move somewhere that people most likely didn't know me. But you probably already guessed that, huh?

[So that's how it is. No, Jun hadn't thought to guess WHY Venti had to come to town. The answer is much sadder than he was expecting, honestly.]

I hadn't, but...it explains a lot. I suppose Hollywood would be a place that people are more hypervigilant about someone not aging.

I can't speak for those not on the app, but for what it's worth...the ones on the app are much more accustomed to the supernatural. You three aren't even the only immortals in this city. My friends Mikleo and Vash are as well...if you need someone else to to talk to who'll understand.

Unfortunately, yeah. I'm glad I lived there and got to experience the city. Lots of good came out of it! It's just that it was never going to last long. At least the magical community is really amazing at making mostly real licenses and passports!

[Venti still looks on the bright side, at least. Experiencing the highs and lows of life is all part of being free to explore. It's just that in this day and age, that freedom has become a lot more restricted.]

I think I spoke with Vash not too long ago! I didn't realize he was in the same boat as me. It'd be nice to talk to them about it, I think. And probably do us some good. There are definitely things I can relate to mortal people with, but the agelessness and all the problems that come with it... yeah, that's a lot harder to relate.

Ha, that doesn't surprise me. Vash is a very social person, kind too. I wouldn't be surprised if he has more friends in Kaisou than I do at this point. [Jun is well aware he's an introvert]

Mm, I understand what you mean. Mikleo and I are quite close, but sometimes when he starts talking about immortality...I feel like he's describing a color I simply can't see no matter how hard I squint.

Yeah, I think that's a natural reaction. If Mikleo is willing to meet with me at some point, I'd be delighted to chat with him! Between the three of us, we've got a nice support network. If we three get along as friends, I promise I'll take care of them from an immortal standpoint.

Ugh, that got a bit bittersweet and morbid. Enough sad talk that makes me sound like a grandpa! You ever need anything or you just wanna hang out, I'll be there for you!

Oh? But arranged marriages do still go on in other parts of the world! If we're talking about marrying Mikleo and/or Vash off to me, I also wouldn't be opposed when they're most likely very lovely people~ They can wear the dress, I'm not picky.
