WHO: Venti and all of y'all!
WHERE: Network
WHEN: Near the end of May
WHAT: There's a new grandpa in town, and he's marginally more well-adjusted than Zhongli! Marginally. This one at least knows how to manage his finances.
WARNINGS: This will be a little cursed most likely, and probably language!
So this is a weird, new app! Since I can't delete this thing, I'm gonna guess that it's not some weird community thing for Kaisou, right? Like a FB group for people to get strongarmed into--I mean join?
Guess it wouldn't hurt too much to intro myself since I'm new here. I'm Venti! I just moved here like. Today. Lovely place, the Spirit Vein up above really sets the mood!
Okay, so here's an icebreaker for you guys, just to have a little bit of fun!
Is cereal a soup? Alternatively, how do you say the word 'pecan?'
And a friendly reminder that bananas are berries, but strawberries aren't berries!

you catch on quick
[Amal is actually onto something here, but.... nah.]
but to your questions
first off what the hell is a pecan
secondly
who cares how a food is classified if it tastes good???
no subject
A pecan is a kind of nut! It's these little fellas.
Oh, you're a simple soul, aren't you? I like you. I do agree with the sentiment!
no subject
oh those things
yeah they taste pretty good!!! i had them in ice cream once
im not native so im not sure i can really say anything on how it's pronounced
del-ish-us
[CALL HIM OUT WHY DONT YOU]
my soul is actually pretty complicated but we won't get into that
i just think food is good
even the stuff that's unbearably bland to me has its own strengths, like being really warm and filling in a cold environment
no subject
They make a delicious pie, a really lovely "brownie," and pecan tassies I hear are really good!
Not nearly as good as apples, mind, but still very tasty!
[ALWAYS]
Ah, the soul might be complicated, but I bet that at its heart, it's simple.
That's true, though there are definitely some foods I still can't stand.
Anything sticky or slimy is just the actual worst textural nightmare I've ever had the displeasure of experiencing.
no subject
apples are really good!!!
im from a tropical island so apples weren't really a thing i had until i crossed the ocean
the really tart ones are my favorite
[.... yeah okay Venti has his number.]
.......... the fact i can't deny that probably says a lot
i'm here to do three things:
punch bad guys
dance my ass off
and look good doing both
if that makes me simple i guess im simple
okay yeah uh you have a point about that... i like sweets though. i can stand it if they're sweets
there's this thing called jalebi...... i could eat it for days
better than cinnamon rolls
though the GIANT ones at void dennys are a close second
no subject
The tart ones are excellent for pies and dipping in caramel.
But if I have to eat one on its own, I prefer the sweeter, red variety.
A most refreshing snack.
Well!
If I ever have need of a fashionable bodyguard, you're at the top of my list, now!
[Friendship with Zhongli ended. Amal is his new best friend, now.]
Mm, sweets can be amazing.
They can also be disasters if done wrong, but we don't talk about those!
You can probably guess that apple desserts are my personal favorite.
However, there's also something really fulfilling about simple dishes done well, you know?
Letting all of the ingredients shine in the best light possible.
They're so simple in concept, yet it's the execution that really makes it stand out.
no subject
[SIMPLE.]
oh wow
despite all the weird questions
you really understand food.....
i'm not a chef or anything i just like to eat spicy food and no one makes it spicy enough for me
especially in this place
it took me a while to find something that i didn't consider a downgrade from my home
there's nothing like walking through the bazaar past all the stalls and smelling the food......
street food really is the best way to gauge how good a city is
no subject
[TROLL.]
Food is culture!
To understand people, you must understand their food and the culture around it.
At least, that's how I've viewed it.
I very much agree with your assessment of street food!
You really know the vibe of a city when you walk around and smell the food.
Some of the best absolutely comes from the street vendors or from food trucks!
no subject
i realized since i got here that i enjoy sharing my homeland's food because it also means i get to teach a bit about my culture
i think food isn't just culture though
it's history and folklore
and sometimes it's just love.
i think that's what it is for me the most
when i think about the happiest times i've spent with my family.....
i don't mean blood family i mean REAL family, chosen family
there was food involved somehow
how good is your spice tolerance by the way? you look pale i have to ask ok
no subject
Music is another, but admittedly I'm very biased.
Still, cooking is an artform that's to be respected.
There's so much that comes from a dish based on exactly as you've said, love included.
Traditions and memories are kept alive through the passing down of recipes.
That's what I believe, anyway.
I'm able to tolerate what most Indians would consider mild!
Not white person mild, though I take no offense. It's more than reasonable.
That's about where the upper limits of my spice tolerance goes, despite my best efforts.
I think perhaps it's my Welsh side.
All of my spice tolerance went into my unyielding spirit of rebellion!
no subject
music has always been a part of me. kind of literally i feel so that's why i dance
songs and stories are also a passion of mine
though i should add
i'm a bard in the classical sense, not the...... shoots arrows and sings ballads in the midst of battle sense
i'm an entertainer and i aim to please, whether my audience is a king or a layman
you're right about that, though. i didn't have anyone to pass anything down to me but i figured it out by learning from the others around me
got it, got it. i know the spice level you're talking about
it's funny, it's hard to find hannish food outside of thavnair but i end up tumbling ass over end through a portal one day and then it's everywhere, just called something else
i usually make a hotter portion just for me anyway.
my poor kid can't handle it otherwise
i don't know anything about... welsh? wels??? geography........
look i dont think i could find where we're at on a map
explain it like i'm not from this world please
because i'm not
if i havent made that clear with the pointy ears and crazy tattoos on my picture or anything
no subject
It's just a different way to reach out to people and communicate through the heart.
Dancing is a more physical expression of that.
All bards, whether they're classical or made for war, want to accomplish the same goal, just in different ways.
Through song and poetry, we can weave something beautiful that picks up the spirits of the people around us!
Unfortunately, poetry's kind of a dying art, but it seems that music is eternal.
Hehe, fascinating!
It's interesting to hear that another world has an equivalent culture to ours.
[Yet, somehow, he's not at all surprised by the idea of other worlds. In fact, it feels strangely familiar. Eh, it's probably nothing.]
Don't worry!
You fit right in here since Americans barely know their own country's geography!
Wales is a small country located on the British Isles.
We're part of the United Kingdom, unfortunately.
I haven't been back home in a long time, though, but I hear that they're still rebelling in their own ways against England!
I can only support those efforts from afar.
no subject
dancing for me isn't just a fun thing to do for self expression
it's a discipline. it's how we fight for the world we want
the war dance has been passed down for thousands of years, back when our city was still being built
our city is like... six thousand years old or something like that i don't know
what is the saying? old as balls!!!
the origin of the kriegstanz is to purify the hearts of the downtrodden
things like despair, anger, and resentment can build up and manifest physically on my world and hurt people
so i'm just doing my part to prevent that
but you're right! that's what bards do!!!
even if it's poetry and some accompanying music it still counts
[PROBABLY NOTHING]
oh i see.......
wait i know this one
england's the country that america fought for independence. don't ask me when i just remember this from the last time
still
is all of that... okay???
are they being treated right by the empire? because i've seen empires, and they usually don't
[a pause]
i'm just asking. i might know someone with experience overthrowing corrupt governments
i could ask them for ideas. hypothetically
no subject
Hehe, I think I've found a kindred spirit in you.
You ever need someone to fill in as a music player or singer, I'll totally be there for you!
Even if those emotions don't make themselves more physical, it can still have their own profound impacts on people physically.
So I think us entertainers will always have an important role to play because of that.
WELL, the UK isn't an empire anymore.
It definitely was, and I'm sure that there are people who believe it should be an empire again.
Hehe, but it's okay, I don't think we're at that stage yet.
The Welsh have always been a hardy, rebellious folk.
We'll weather the storm and fight back in our own way until they listen to us.
However, it was still a very kind offer, and it's appreciated.
It's always nice to meet a fellow rebel!
no subject
wow.... that's an honor
i'd love to play with you sometime!!!
or even dance with your accompaniment. obviously it wouldn't be the same kind of dancing i do for work though
i'm usually playing the lyre or the lute if i pick something up myself
but yes i agree
i think people forget about the power of music and dance when they're locked away for too long by themselves
oh. it's not?
what's the difference??????
[Venti saw right through him...]
hahahah....... i can't confirm or deny that accusation
i've been told i "confess to crimes" too much on this thing
as if they're gonna come after me for something i did on another world that doesn't even exist anymore
people are so funny
no subject
Ohh, you're a lyre player?
It's really rare to see those anymore, but they give such a beautiful sound.
I've focused more on the harp, cello, and flute.
However, I can pretty much play any instrument with some skill!
Just nothing that can be written home about, you know?
There's definitely a difference, but I have no desire to get into the distinction.
It's boring and dry and there's no way to make it entertaining unless you have a voice like honey.
Well, maybe not for crimes you committed on your world.
But they might come after you if they deem that those crimes put everyone here in danger, you know?
Just be careful!
You're a cool guy with a lotta people who love you!
no subject
being a classically trained entertainer is weird in ... whatever century this is. i was taught how to play for noble courts among...... other things. i can't exactly find the adventurers' guild here and ask them if there's any openings for courtiers
you sound real talented. elliot's the same way. you can hand him an instrument and he goes wild
and fair enough. i'll just moogle it later!
[hmm. he has a point.]
wow, all right, it's not quite that bad.....
fighting off world-ending threats isn't all sunshine and rainbows though.
someone has to pay the price.
if that's me, then so be it. everyone always judges me by my past anyway
[One of the ways he's survived this long is by just letting people think whatever they're going to think.]
still, there's someone i gotta take care of
so if they want to lock me up i'm going to fight it every step of the way
no subject
I find it better to just let it go 'cause it gets so tiring otherwise.
21st century! I can't blame you, honestly. It's an Adjustment.
Aww, that's so sweet that you'd compare me to Elliot!
I haven't heard him play yet, but he's got an undeniable passion and love for music that I just can't help admiring.
[Oh, he's sweet, but a psycho. Yes, Venti is singing that out loud in his empty house when he reads this. Just so he doesn't accidentally type it out to Amal because damn. He's unhinged himself, but he's not cold.]
I didn't mean for it to come across as an attack on your character.
It's more that I wanted to point out why they might think that.
Freedom is important, and I'd hate to see such a beautiful bird caged when there's still so much joy you can bring to others.
I certainly can't judge anyone for a checkered past or what they had to do to survive.
no subject
that is. so many centuries??????? every time there's a world ending calamity we restart our calendar because what's the point
he's an amazing teacher too. i don't know how to read music but he's been helping me....
[Well, he is.]
haha don't worry, i didn't get the feeling you were attacking me.
i just wanted to point out that my bark's worse than my bite
why does everyone assume when i mention my past that it's full of murder????? is it because of the knives.
anyway
i'm fully aware i'm crazy, but it's precisely because i'm crazy that i don't get other people involved if i can help it
if you saw me jumping off a 50 yalm cliff into a lake, you saw nothing.
i like you though. you seem nice even though you tell it how it is.
also it's hard to get mad at someone calling me beautiful~
