[Sorey has been a bit busy lately, but he's cheerful as always when he addresses the network at large. His adorable Comfey, Alice, is a new addition to those who haven't been part of his therapy sessions.]

Hullo, everyone! I'm Dr Sorey Shepard, or Dr Rosewood if you'd prefer. I wanted to let you all know that I've asked Professor Oak, POKEGO's leader, for assistance with the magical college project. Three of our professors have volunteered to help be part of the faculty, so they should be arriving shortly. They'd be Professors Rowan, Juniper, and Sycamore! August and Waver, we can talk about how best to integrate them once they've arrived. I'll be sure to introduce you to each other.

In addition, I'm happy to announce that we would like to extend to Libra users an open invitation to join POKEGO through our apprenticeship program. Only if you want to! This is entirely voluntary. However, it's going to be a lengthy process involving a few background checks and a training program set up by your mentor. You're also free to leave at any point if you feel that it's not a good fit for you. However, should you choose to leave after 'graduating' from an apprentice, you won't be able to come back. Please, keep that in mind before you decide to go through with this. Let me know if you have any questions and I'll answer them as best I can!

[His smile then widens.]

Also, since people have been adopting, or getting adopted by, creatures from the Kanto Spirit Realm, if you have any questions at all about them, please don't hesitate to contact Yuuki Shinomiya! [Having been granted permission, Sorey goes ahead and makes the rest of this conversation private. He even goes so far as to soundproof the room he's in. It's clear by his expression and body language that Sorey's attention is all on listening to Varian.]

Alright, you can ask me anything, and I promise to give you nothing but my honesty. Does that sound good to you?

[The brunet's only ever been honest with Varian, but it feels like he needs to reiterate it to put him a little more at ease.]

[Sorey is a damn good soul and Varian is extremely grateful for it. He makes Varian feel like maybe he's not a completely lost cause that doesn't deserve a shred of happiness. A few other people in Kaisou have done that too, of course, but Sorey's been giving him the tools to try and get himself out of that mindset and it's helped so much.

But he's still pretty new to trying to get out of his own head. He's still in the stumbling stage and this is SUCH a scary thing that might be a huge stumbling block.]

...Yeah. That sounds good. Thanks.

[Still, he hesitates a moment before continuing, hugging an arm around himself for some self-comfort. ]

Do you think it's worth me even trying out for it? I- I mean I really do want to make a difference and I really understand wanting to make better from past mistakes and- and make things better for others. I really want to do that. But...I don't know. [He chews his lip, worried.] I've done so much bad... would they just think I'm a lost cause and not even bother?

[He definitely tries his best with Varian. It's going to be a long, difficult road, but Sorey truly believes that the kid will see this through to a more positive ending.

The brunet listens to his concerns, and does give it real thought. Jumping to an immediate, 'oh, no, of course not, don't worry' isn't going to help Varian in the long run, and that's not what he's asking Sorey anyway.]

Well, to answer your second question, I do believe that the organization would be hesitant to let you in given your background. However, if you're honest with them about what you've done and I put myself in as your mentor, I think that they'd be more willing to give you the okay to join. I'm more than happy to do that because it will answer your first question.

Our motto is, "Only with knowledge can one grow." I believe that trying out for this apprenticeship will be very good for you. You'd be joining like-minded individuals who understand having a passion for science and learning. We'll help support you in your field of study, and I think we can all help you grow as a person, just like you can help us grow, too. So, if you're willing to have me as your mentor, I'd be more than happy to help you apply for the apprentice program.

[Varian's glad that Sorey doesn't immediately try to ease his concerns. He'd only call bullshit on that. He's only young, but he's seen enough of how people react to a past like this to know it's not such an easy fix. He knows it takes hard work, he did it back home, and he wants to try it here. Pretending otherwise would just...lessen all that.

Still, he's surprised. This is a BIG offer. Sorey would be sticking his neck out a lot for him here. ]

You- you'd really do that for me?

[Sorey has given his reasons- GOOD ones, but the surprise is still there. Maybe one day he'll learn to accept that people are willing to put their faith in him even after how much backstabbing he's done, but today is not that day. ]

I-I mean, yes! Obviously I um- I'd be so willing to have you as my mentor if-if you're offering. Which...obviously you are.

[He's winning at this. He clears his throat.]

Sorry. I was just...surprised. I agree, of course. We- we can only ever grow if we're willing to learn. And I'd really like to learn more and just. I don't know, do some good here? I invented stuff to help people back in Corona all the time. I'd love the chance to do that here, too.

[Sorey smiles, proud that Varian corrects himself. It comes with some stuttering and stumbling, but it's still a big deal.]

It's quite alright! There's nothing to apologize for.

[He gives a nod to that as he thinks.]

Your knowledge of chemistry and engineering will be a great help, honestly! I think you'll do well, and I'll do everything I can to help support you.

[The brunet puts a hand to his chin as he thinks.]

Hmm... first, though, we'll need to draft a letter. There'll need to be one from you and a professional one from me. I'll have to come around to ask you to sign a consent form to allow me to release a psychological evaluation to them. Most likely, they'll ask for another one from a different psychologist to verify my assessment, but just be yourself and you'll do just fine.

[He's trying his gosh-darn best to break out of his cycle of self-loathing. It's not EASY, but by god, he's come leaps and bounds since seeing Sorey. He definitely will not forget all the man has done for him anytime soon. ]

Thanks...I know I keep saying that but I really mean it. I- you've helped me a lot. And I really would like to pay that forward, too. And I think that's...where I can do that.

[Before his fall from grace all he ever wanted was to invent things to help people. It'll be nice to get back on that particular track. ]

Okay, that makes sense. I can do all of that. I- I can get letters from Amal and probably Elliot too, if you think it might help my case?

[Aw, Varian. It's that positive change that really makes Sorey's job so worthwhile to him. It'll be a long journey still, but the progress has been significant.]

I quite agree! I truly think you're going to do well.

[He nods at the question.]

Yes, I think those letters should be sufficient. Perhaps, ah, make sure to read over Amal's so that he doesn't... accidentally implicate himself in criminal activity? He's a good man, but such things may make it more concerning to Professor Oak.

[Well, that gets a laugh out of him.]

Yeah! I'll definitely do that because that's...uh, likely. Even if it's just to make me look better in comparison. [He loves you dad, but he knows what you're LIKE. ] He'd be the worst spy ever, I'm amazed he hasn't been arrested more and I say that with all the love in my heart.

Haha, I have a feeling Amal is just as surprised, deep down. [Maybe.]

But I know that you're going to work hard and do your best. We'll both receive a letter with Professor Oak's decision, so once we get that, we'll discuss what your training should look like in more detail, and get you a Pokemon partner from the Kanto gate!

If the wait makes you too anxious, I can help by giving you some techniques to mitigate some of it.
