Hola, everyone... my name is Dolores Madrigal. [Maybe some people remember her from her last stay here, or they know the name of her family. Either way, if they know the name 'Madrigal' they know that there used to be a lot more of them around, and maybe that's the reason Dolores' smile looks a little strained. It might also be why she looks a little tired.]

I have been to Kaisou before, though I think that this time has been more difficult... but now that things seem calmer I have something to ask about.

[It looks like she's checking for something on her phone for a moment.]

I have found a thing called 'ASMR' while watching videos to try to learn more about the world. It's very interesting, that people will try to produce so many sounds that are pleasing to the ear. [And as someone with incredibly sensitive hearing, Dolores has come to enjoy these videos very much.]

I do not like the eating ones, so much. [She says with a laugh.] But I think that I could call myself an expert on sounds that are enjoyable to hear. Do lots of people really like these things? What are your favourites?

[She might be thinking of trying something... once she's figured out how social media works.]

Madrigal? Are you related to Isa?

I gave those a try a while ago. [Back when he'd figured out that his powers were a little easier to control when he was feeling calm and he'd been giving everything a try.]

They didn't really help as much I was hoping, but they did sound nice. I liked the rain and wind ones the best.

Oh, yes, Isabela is my cousin.

[The rain and wind ones are ones she has looked at, though she has always found those kinds of sounds calming regardless. What she finds very curious are the 'channels' where people are whispering, or cutting things, or doing any number of other activities that make pleasing noises.]

Ah, if you don't mind my asking... What were you trying to use them to help with?

Powers. [He says this with an air of deep annoyance.]

I'm a lot better now, but back when all of this started getting my powers under any kind of control was a nightmare.

Oh-- I see.

[Powers. Yes...

Dolores is well-versed in how to use her own gift. Exceptionally sensitive hearing that she can't shut off might be considered more of a curse to most, though she's used to it now. When it comes to other powers, though... she's still in the middle of figuring out how these fire abilities work.]

What kind of powers do you have?

[He starts counting them off on his fingers.]

Turning into a ghost, sensing other ghosts, intangibility, invisibility, flying, throwing energy and making shields. And I'm probably forgetting something.

Oh.

[Wow.]

That's... a lot. No wonder you've been having trouble with it.

Yeah... And I'm guessing I'm not done yet. I keep getting new ones showing up before I can even figure out how to use the last one. At least I'm not sinking through floors any more.

[Ah, well... that does sound very inconvenient.]

I think I should be thankful that my own new gifts have not been so troublesome... or so numerous. I only had to replace one pair of curtains.

[ Danny lets out a laugh. ]

Yeah... my parents had to replace a lot of dishes when all this started. I still haven't figured out how to explain any of this to them, so I have no idea what they think is going on with me.

Mm... [She shakes her head a little.] Teenage boys can be very clumsy, no? My younger brother can be.

[How many times has she seen someone try to pass Camilo something, only for him to fumble when he takes it?]

They don't know anything about... all of this?

[Danny lets out an awkward laugh.]

Oh no. My parents don't see any of the spirit realm stuff. They're still on the normal side of things. So there's no way I could talk to them about any of this.

[His smile twists with guilt.]

Especially not the whole becoming a ghost part.

Oh...

[How terrible! Not being able to rely on your family, sounds, to someone like Dolores who is so close with her own, absolutely heartbreaking.]

I hope you at least have someone to talk to. It sounds terrible to have to go through all that on your own.

[ Danny waves it off like it didn't bother him. (It did, but he figured it was one of those things he couldn't really do anything about. So what was the point in talking about it?)]

Don't worry, I've made lots of friends here.

[He'd talked through some of what bothered him with them. Just... not everything. The last thing he wanted was to make them worry about him any more than they already did. ]

[Oh, and wouldn't that be something that Dolores knows all too well.]

That's good. I hope I'll be able to do the same.

[Having lots of friends sounds nice. Especially without her family around.]

How long have you known about all of this?

Since last spring. All of this started up just before summer break. Before that I was just a normal kid.

I guess mine would be the sound of rain? It can be relaxing and I heard it can help people who have trouble sleeping.

I never tried it though but I am curious if it works.

It can be difficult for me to not find certain sounds irritating, but rain has always been a favourite of mine too.

Only if it isn't too loud.

Do you think you'll try it?

I guess? It wouldn't hurt to try and especially with how difficult it can be to sleep sometimes.

But why is it difficult to find a lot of sounds irritating?

I have very sensitive hearing. It's my gift. When it's a quiet night I can hear things almost half way across Kaisou.

And certain noises... they can be very annoying. Especially when I don't have a way to block them out at the time.

I see, that sounds rather tough.

That is still an amazing ability though if you ask me.

It can be overwhelming sometimes.

But I do hear a lot of interesting things...

...Should I ask what kind of interesting things?

Things that people would probably not want to have overheard, at times. Arguments, private discussions... I can't turn it off, so it can't be helped.

That really sounds like a difficult ability to have.

You been fairing okay though?

As well as you might expect!
But I do like to get out of the city when I can. It's terribly loud here, even with something over my ears.

I'm guessing playing calming music doesn't help.

I know it's a kind of difficult but is there anything I can do do help?

[It's a very sweet offer.]

Only if you know of a way to completely block out sound.
Or at least most of it?

I've tried a few things, but it's very new to me.

I'm guessing noise cancelling headphones won't work.

Have you tried to focus on something else so it'll be a distraction? Or find a sound that will be more calming?

They work a little but not entirely.

I could focus on certain things when I still lived in my home town, but there is a lot more noise in the city. Picking out one thing is difficult.

I wonder is there a place where you could cancel out the noise here.

I could ask around but I'm not sure if someone has that kind of power here. I could but I doubt Kala-Nemi could do anything.

Who is Kala-Nemi?

You really don't need to worry about it. I'm getting used to it. I've had my gift since I was five.

Even so, it doesn't mean that it gets any easier.

And Kala-Nemi is my Persona. You can say it's my other self, if that means any sense.

Not really...
But a lot of things here don't make sense to me.

I'm learning a little bit at a time.

You're not the only one. Why did they give me a dinosaur who wants to eat fruit? Or a pair of horse shoes? I'm not sure.
