[GAME START] Welcome to Libra!
WHO: Everyone!
WHERE: Network
WHEN: January 7th
WHAT: Welcome to Libra!
WARNINGS: None
[Wherever you are, your phone will start to ring and vibrate. It doesn’t matter if your phone was off or on mute - it will ring anyway. If you didn’t have a phone? You’ll have found one that has been delivered to your current location with a sticky note attached with your name on it.
The ringing will continue until you check your phone. The entire screen has been locked to a new app that downloaded: Libra. It looks like a social media app, even though you’ve never heard of it before. Worst yet, there seems to be no closing this app until you read and respond to the message displayed]
Welcome to Libra! Libra is an innovative app developed by the good folks at Zodiac™ to connect people with similarities that set them apart from the average crowd!
There’s a lot to talk about, but we don’t want to pile too much on you! Instead, let's start things off with a little icebreaker! It’s a little late, but we hope it's still relevant!

This post is sponsored by the 2021 Kaisou Winter Carnival! Get out and enjoy the cold!
[Users will have the option to choose their own display names and userpics. If nothing is chosen, the app will use their real name and a quick photo taken of them from their camera's phone.
Mod Note: The game has officially begun! The first event log will take place on January 9th, but players are free to make their own logs and posts! There will be no NPC response in this network post, so feel free to interact with each other!]

Thanks for interrupting the game I'm playing and not letting me exit out.
If this is some kind of viral marketing for this new app, my resolution is to just keep my phone on silent for the year. ¬_¬

Think formatting the phone would make this go away?

I'm not great with tech, so I'm gonna try bringing it to a repair shop tomorrow.

What's your name? Or handle. I can try to message you on other social media if it works.

That's not info I want really out there... I don't know who can see this app.

Hope you didn't lose your game because of the app, though!

I wonder if maybe some ad downloaded it in the background? Hard to know which one, though, since I haven't seen any ads for something like this recently.

I've had a really stupid puzzle game download like that... Predatory shit like that shouldn't be allowed.
no subject
Still... super weird that we can't UNinstall it. I mean, it's fun enough right now, but that's still pretty worrying.
no subject
It's like the Facebook app that we can't get rid of now matter what now...
no subject
Ah, Facebook... I can't get rid of it even if I want to. That's how my sister keeps in contact with me now that I've moved out. Even if I could get rid of it, if I did, I'd never hear the end of it.

I'm in the same boat. My family won't get with the times and use modern stuff like Discord or even just texting me. It's all FB Messenger.

a lot of these apps are really super aggressive with their advertising these days but hey maybe it'll be pretty great to use? sometimes networking is really fun! i kind of want to give it a chance!
no subject
Just an AFK mobile game I ran across in the playstore.
You don't think it's suspicious to have a random networking app added to your phone? What if it steals your data?
no subject
do you like those? i always thought they were kinda boring
but you know, if the internet wants to know stuff about me it probably already does. in this day and age nothing is really private huh? we sign up for all sorts of social networking. whats wrong with one more?
no subject
Consent. I didn't give this one permission to be on my phone. That's what's wrong with it.
no subject
but isn't there always a new kind of app or thing that has to install on stuff? it's not that uncommon!
no subject
Yeah, but usually we're told ahead of time in update releases that this will happen. I don't remember anything like that.
no subject
i think i'm just pretty used to using whatever new app comes out for these sorts of things. as long as there's no weird app purchases what's the worse that can happen?
no subject
You get sponsored to do that. If this kills my phone, I won't be able to afford a new one for a while!
