(no subject)

WHO: Alberto, Luca, Amity, Luz
WHERE: The boys' Barbie Dream deathtrap (AKA "home")
WHEN: backdated to sometime in late-August
WHAT: dinner party!
WARNINGS: disaster children... but completely PG.

[ Alberto's been looking forward to this "meet the girlfriend" dinner — technically, since before Amity even showed up! He still has a very fuzzy idea of what "girlfriend" means and why it differs from "best friend," but either way, Amity sounds like someone important to Luz, like Luca is to him, so it's a priority to make a good impression tonight. No food poisoning. Really focusing on that part. No matter what, though, they'll definitely make, um... an impression. Just by virtue of their bizarre apartment? Luz may or may not have filled Amity in yet that they're not human, though Alberto did drop her some hints online — and Amity may not be well familiar with how humans decorate... but any sensible gut instinct could tell you, uh, it's not like this.

It's an overwhelming space. In lieu of couches, they have a mass of pillows, though there is one lone piece of proper furniture, surrounded by an avid collection books; their bed on the other side of the open room looks much the same as the living area, a second nest of pillows. The whole space is bright and colorful, spangled with myriad trinkets and fairy lights. The place is cluttered with an excess of god knows what; things hang from the ceiling, like old sauce jars full of pebbles and buttons and such, wrapped up in twine, which are all— d-duct-taped to the ceiling, it seems...? There are many resourceful little flicks like that, in this strange collection mostly made up of found and repurposed items — like the dozen or two large, old olive oil bottles scattered around the room, all filled with to the brim with cash...?! This is how they keep their savings safe! Some things serve more of a purpose, whereas others are more... aesthetic. The pièce de résistance is the odd-but-clever coffee table Alberto'd constructed, made from a rusty old fountain basin, placed on top an old wooden cheese wheel box, filled with seashells he'd collected himself, and topped off with a thick, round piece of glass — the only thing he paid money for. Clearly, creative people live here, having even rigged up an endless sketchpad by mounting a roll of butcher paper to the wall on a curtain rod (though, mounted totally improperly and without Zodiac Apartment permission, it's bound to fall out of the wall soon enough); there's a open hardback suitcase beneath it overflowing with every color imaginable of marker, crayon, pencil, pastel, et al, and the paper roll is dappled with childish doodles and silly sketches. There's plenty more original artwork hung up on the walls, amongst many letters and notes, posters, scratched up records, and endless photographsfeaturing a few recurring faces, many photos ostensibly from home, should either of the girls inspect more closely later on.

The most eye-catching piece of art, though, is a large, timeworn Vespa poster from home, the one thing clearly meant to stand out with pride. Nearly every inch of usable space has been claimed by this point, about half a year now since Alberto moved in, and about a season since Luca joined him, making their new home together a collaborative creative endeavor all summer; the boys have even drawn stars and planets and clouds on the ceiling somehow...?! Infinite fine details for the wandering eye! Yet despite how relentlessly chaotic their home is, there's something strangely charming about it — a certain intimate, lively but relaxing coziness to the space.

That feeling is quite literally on full volume by the time the girls arrive. On top of everything else the house is filled with, it's also filled with lovely music and appetizing aromas wafting in from the kitchen. Because, indeed, the boys wanna put their best fin forward meeting Amity, especially knowing she's new to the human world. Gotta show her the best of the best of the best human stuff! As such, a normal Bluetooth speaker (that is the single most cutting edge piece of modern technology they own, having found most everything else at... estate sales...) is playing a carefully curated playlist of classic Italian opera, which can be heard faintly even from outside the door when the girls get there. Answering the door will be hastily delegated to Luca, as Alberto goes about preparing their meal. But Alberto caaaan be heard enthusiastically singing to his pesto when Amity and Luz first come in... Well— at least he'd already sworn to Amity that singing to your food while cooking improves the flavor, and she'd seemed to believe him — so that counts for something in their favor...? Aaand by that token, may also reduce the chance of food poisoning! According to... Alberto. An obviously credible source. ]

[Luz was anxious to have Amity properly meet Luca and Alberto in their actual home! She hadn't visited them in some time thanks to crazy dinosaur shenanigans, but now that those seemed to be under control at the moment, she could have Amity meet kids their age who weren't going through a world-shaking crisis]!

Remember, they have a clutter of earth stuff around them, about as much as Eda back in the house, only theirs don't have as much...structure, I guess. But the feel of it is nice, like walking around in the old country!

[Luz was aware that didn't make any sense to Amity of course. It reminded her a lot of visiting family in the Dominican Republic: a place lost in time, brimming with music and gentle breezes and fruit on the trees. Luz didn't know quite how to convey that, so she'd settle for Amity's own pure reaction].

You can feel that part of their world in the house, trust me!

[Her only touchstone for human behaviour is...Luz. Who is eclectic in her own styles, to say the least. She has only the vaguest notions of how humans live and decorate, and what Luz is describing sounds kind of like they live inside of Eda's shop after Hooty had been through a bad day.]

Right, ok.

[She got the sense that this was both explanation of a different world and also sort of a vague warning. But if she could handle...well, literally everything that had been thrown at her over the last few months and then upon arriving here? She could manage this.]

Should I have brought, I dunno, a human thing...?

[Luca, in the mean time, is waiting on the edge of his seat for for Luz and Amity to arrive. Now that he and Alberto have learned about food safety, he's eager to show off Alberto's cooking again, this time without food poisoning. Also, he's just generally interested in meeting Luz's girlfriend because she's important to Luz, and it's always great to have friends around their age come over. As he's sitting there, he's fairly certain he hears something outside the door, but he's not quite sure over the music. He moves closer and...yes! That is them! Should he wait for them to knock? Maybe, but at this point if he does wouldn't he just be eavesdropping? Probably better to just answer the door.

And so they'll see the door suddenly swing open to reveal Luca.]

Ciao! Come in! Alberto's cooking, and we've learned a lot about food stuff so we promise not to poison you this time!

[...probably not the best introduction, but...oh well.]
