Intro Log
WHO: Luisa and you
WHERE: The Labyrinth, then the city
WHEN: Feb. 12
WHAT: A new arrival, and she happens to be a Madrigal!
WARNINGS: Possibly some anxiety
Labyrinth
[ Luisa had no idea what was going on.
She didn't remember ever falling asleep, but when she woke she suddenly found herself in this strange place. It kind of reminded her of a Roman coliseum, like the ones she'd read about in a few books she'd picked up before. There didn't seem to be any obvious way out, though, and after wandering around while trying to find an exit, she'd come across some kind of strange creature that tried to attack her.
It wasn't like she'd never had this dream before, of encountering some monster that she needed to fight, so she wasn't entirely surprised to find a sword and shield nearby as well. But she knew something was wrong as soon as she picked them up - while they weren't necessarily heavy, she could definitely feel the weight of them. And as she blocked a blow from the monster with the shield, she felt the strain in her muscles, just trying to keep from being crushed under it.
And yeah, she's had this dream before too - even before all the trouble with the magic, she'd have nightmares of losing her strength, of not being able to do what she needed to. But while dodging another of the monster's attacks, she felt the sharp sting of its claws as it grazed her arm, leaving dark red lines on her skin.
This wasn't a dream. It was all real, and she was actually fighting a monster without her usual strength. But if all this was real, then did that mean her family could also be here somewhere?
She wasn't entirely sure how she managed to beat the monster, but it probably had something to do with the sudden rush of adrenaline with the need to find her family. She called out for each of them, searching through the twists and turns of the maze while encountering more beasts. Some where animals that she'd heard about, some were creatures of myth she'd read about, but all were tough and difficult to beat.
She somehow manages to push on, even though the fights wear down on her. She isn't sure how long she can keep this up, but she has to keep trying. If her family was here, she needed to find them. ]
The City
[ After eventually getting out of the labyrinth, and with some explanation later, Luisa takes a little time to explore this strange new city. It's a weird feeling; she'd never even left the Encanto before, and suddenly in some huge city in who-knows-where. Even with the mountains surrounding their home, she had never felt quite as...small as she does now.
She tries not to dwell on that too much, though, as she takes in all the stores and shops along the street. And she can't help a puzzled frown. ]
Why is everything so...red?

The City
At the question he speaks up, tone displeased.]
It's because of some human holiday.
[He finally glances over and, upon noticing her normal human ears, raises an eyebrow.]
Which... you should probably know about? [Maybe? He isn't sure.]
no subject
Maybe? The town I grew up in was pretty small, especially compared to a place like this. There could be some things that are different.
no subject
Even if you're from a small town you're still human, right? You don't know your own holidays? Or is Valentine's day exclusive to this region?
no subject
I mean, I can't speak for this region, but not everyone celebrates the same things everywhere. There are a lot of different people that learn and experience and celebrate different things. And even in places that might celebrate similar holidays might do so differently.
Humans aren't all the same, you know.
no subject
He's also coming from an incredibly tiny society compared to the billions of humans that exist. In fact, he is severely underestimating how many humans exist at all. This is sounding more complicated than he realized.]
That's news to me. [But the tone of his voice is a little less outright snarky and a little more curious.] If you don't know this holiday, then that means you aren't from around here, right?
[It's a guess, but he thinks it's a pretty logical one.]
no subject
Yeah. I just got here maybe...a couple hours ago?
[ She isn't entirely sure how long she'd spent in that maze. ]
no subject
Great, you can be useful. Where are you from, what were you doing before you got here, and what was the portal like for you?
[Time for some information gathering!]
no subject
The words strike a chord in her, no matter how unintentional they had been, and with them came familiar feelings that she was only just starting to learn how to overcome. It was hardly the time for those kinds of thoughts, though, so she buries them - deep, deep down - as she tries to come up with the words to answer his question. ]
Uh...well, I'm from a small town in Colombia. I had been celebrating with my family after we had finished rebuilding our Casita. I don't really remember much about the portal though, I think I might've dozed off? Because when I woke up again I was in that maze.
no subject
Maze? What kind of maze?
no subject
no subject
Does a coliseum mean anything to you? Do you fight monsters for a living?
no subject
Not really? I've never fought any actual monsters before. [ Just ones in her dreams. ] It might have had something to do with my strength.
no subject
He kinds of looks her up and down because yeah, she looks very strong.]
I suppose you'd give smaller ones a run for their money, if you really wanted to.
no subject
[ She isn't sure if that's supposed to be a compliment? ]
no subject
Anyway, anything else noteworthy aside from the coliseum and monsters?
no subject
no subject
Huh. Alright, this is worth remembering. [Really, someone should be keeping track of all the mazes.] There might be connections with other mazes, I'm not sure.
no subject
no subject
Everything I've seen is pointing to that, yeah. I've never heard of portals acting like this, so all the more reason to keep on investigating them.

no subject
[Not personal experience but oh boy, has his life been all about portals recently. He shrugs, then turns away with a dismissive wave.]
You're going to get used to them fast around here. Have fun!
