WHAT: Danny transforms into his ghost half for the first time. He has concerns.

The Street near Danny's house, July 1, Midmorning

Over the last two months, Danny had put a lot of effort into not thinking too hard what conclusion all of the abilities he was developing were pointing at. Sensing ghosts? No big deal. Plenty of people claimed they could do that. Feeling cold? Probably a coincidence. The invisibility and intangibility were a little harder to explain away, but the sheer annoyance of dealing with them helped with not thinking about why these specific abilities.

When it finally happened, it was just a stupid accident. He was walking down the street on the way to visit his friends, when he trips over his shoes intangibly sinking into the concrete. He feels a quick spike of frustration.... which quickly turns into panic as a ring of bright white light appears around his waist. It separates into two rings and begins to pass over his body in both directions.

And everywhere the ring passes, he changes. White to black. Black to white. Blue to Green.

And then the rings vanish, leaving a changed and more than slightly freaked out kid behind. He shakily lifts his hands and inspects them, noticing the faint silvery glow he now had even in the bright sun.

And something in his mind triggers, remembering another time and place.

It hurt. Electricity and ectoplasm and the portal opening to somewhere else, all running through him at once, forging him into something Other.

And then all of a sudden it did, and he was falling out of the portal, green energy still rising from him like smoke. Friendly hands trying to help him off the floor, but they only passed through him like he wasn't even there

And back in the present Danny takes a deep breath and starts to panic..

For Friends, Late Morning:

Danny needed help. Right now, and he was too panicked to think about calling.

And so in the late morning you'll hear a loud and frantic knock coming from the front door. And when you open it you'll find a nearly unrecognizable Danny. White-haired, with glowing green eyes and a silvery luminescence surrounding him. Even his clothes have changed to a photo negative version of what he was wearing before.

Libra App, Early Afternoon.

[Danny had calmed down from earlier in the day, somehow. The transformation wearing off had helped a lot. But it still left him with questions.

How had this happened? Why had this happened? And what did it mean for him?

And he had no idea where to even start, apart from this.

He smiles nervously, and shifts with awkward energy]

So I know this is kind of a weird question. But... how do you know if you're dead?

"Well, I don't know. If you really are a superhero, maybe it just kind of...radiated you? Maybe that's what gave you your powers. That's how it works in other superhero stories."

He is silent for a long moment.

"...You don't think I'm radioactive, do you?"

Now he had something else to worry about.

Moana hums softly. "I wouldn't say radioactive. Because if you were, that'd have some kind of effect on people around you, wouldn't it?" And she didn't think she felt anything from being around him. "But maybe whatever that energy was transferred to you or something?"

"I guess that makes sense," he says uncertainly. "If we're following superhero logic, I mean."

"Yeah, superhero logic is weird." Moana shrugs. "But does that make it any better or worse?"

"I honestly have no idea," he sighs. "I mean, not being radioactive to pther people is good? But if its following that kind of logic, I have no idea what to expect next? What if I get another new power, and its something dangerous?"

"Well..." Moana starts, though hesitates a bit. "The only way to really get better with something is with practice, right? Training?"

She knows that's how it's done in fiction, but it's hard trying to think of how to actually do that.

"Yeah... But if its something dangerous, what if it hurts someone before I can learn how to use it?"

She hums thoughtfully. "I guess it wouldn't be reasonable to just take off for a while until you figure it out."

That would be ideal, like when heroes in movies take off to train in some remote area for months at a time. But that definitely wouldn't fly with school and parents and stuff.

"We'll just have to find a safe way for you to maybe expend the energy until you get the hang of it. It also would depend on what the power is."

He lets out a short laugh.

"Yeah... I doubt getting weird ghost powers under control counts as an absence excuse for school."

Danny frowns.

"I have no idea what could be next. Something ghost related? But besides that."

"You'd also need a doctor's note if you say you're not feeling well, so that's out too." Unless they could find a doctor who was willing to write up a note for him regardless.

Moana hums in thought. "Is there anything from the memories you're getting that might give a clue as to what else you can do?"

Danny thinks, but the memories he'd gotten up to now hadn't shown much of what he could do.

"I think I was really good at taking a punch?" he says uncertainly. "I mean, the big meat monster thing punched me and sent me flying several blocks away. Pretty sure I landed in concrete and left a crater, but I got right back up again."

"Hmm...does that mean you have super strength, maybe? Or at least something that would protect you from really severe injuries, because something like that sounds like a normal person would have more than a few broken bones."

"Something," he agrees. "Though I don't know what. Because everything I've gotten so far seems like things that ghosts can do. But is super strength or armor a ghost thing?"

"Not that I know of. But then, this isn't really the kind of ghost things that I'm used to." She considers it for a moment. "Maybe being, uh...part ghost means you don't get injured as easily? Since ghosts can't typically get hurt by force."

He considers that.

"I think that makes sense? But I don't think that I want to try and test that, if you know what I mean.

"Yeah, that's fair." It did sound pretty dangerous, and as curious as she is she would rather not see him get hurt either.

Pausing a moment, she looks him over. "So...are you stuck like this now, or...?"

He looks down at himself.

"I... don't actually know?"

...Well, that could be a problem.

"Hm...could you try changing back, maybe? See if it's just like a form you have, instead of a permanent thing?"

He shudders.

"Thanks, I was trying not to think too hard about that."

Being stuck like this would be the worst, even if he could be his own nightlight.

"You had to find out sooner or later. You might as well give it a try, so at least you'll know what you might have to deal with later."

"You're probably right."

He sighs. He'd been a little afraid to try. Because what if this was just how he was now? A ghost. Who knew if turning back was even possible.

But trying... He had to at least make an attempt.

He tries to focus on what it felt like to be human. To need to breathe. To be warm. And after a few long moments that seemed to last forever he feels something change, and two rings of light pass over him.

Moana holds her breath as she watches him, a small bit of worry that grows when nothing seems to happen at first. But then the rings of light form around him and she draws in a sharp breath, watching as they pass over him and he returns to his normal look.

"You did it!"

He gasps a little from the shock of suddenly needing to breathe again, as he frantically rolls up his sleeve and feels for his pulse.

"I think I'm back to normal?"

"I mean, were you ever really normal?" She grins teasingly and reaches up and ruffles his hair, now back to its darker color. "But you're not glowing anymore, so that's something."
