He's a Phantom...
WHO: Danny Fenton and Anyone
WHERE: Around Kaisou and on the Libra App
WHEN: July 1
WHAT: Danny transforms into his ghost half for the first time. He has concerns.
WARNINGS: Talk of death?
The Street near Danny's house, July 1, Midmorning
Over the last two months, Danny had put a lot of effort into not thinking too hard what conclusion all of the abilities he was developing were pointing at. Sensing ghosts? No big deal. Plenty of people claimed they could do that. Feeling cold? Probably a coincidence. The invisibility and intangibility were a little harder to explain away, but the sheer annoyance of dealing with them helped with not thinking about why these specific abilities.
When it finally happened, it was just a stupid accident. He was walking down the street on the way to visit his friends, when he trips over his shoes intangibly sinking into the concrete. He feels a quick spike of frustration.... which quickly turns into panic as a ring of bright white light appears around his waist. It separates into two rings and begins to pass over his body in both directions.
And everywhere the ring passes, he changes. White to black. Black to white. Blue to Green.
And then the rings vanish, leaving a changed and more than slightly freaked out kid behind. He shakily lifts his hands and inspects them, noticing the faint silvery glow he now had even in the bright sun.
And something in his mind triggers, remembering another time and place.
It hurt. Electricity and ectoplasm and the portal opening to somewhere else, all running through him at once, forging him into something Other.
And then all of a sudden it did, and he was falling out of the portal, green energy still rising from him like smoke. Friendly hands trying to help him off the floor, but they only passed through him like he wasn't even there
And back in the present Danny takes a deep breath and starts to panic..
For Friends, Late Morning:
Danny needed help. Right now, and he was too panicked to think about calling.
And so in the late morning you'll hear a loud and frantic knock coming from the front door. And when you open it you'll find a nearly unrecognizable Danny. White-haired, with glowing green eyes and a silvery luminescence surrounding him. Even his clothes have changed to a photo negative version of what he was wearing before.
Libra App, Early Afternoon.
[Danny had calmed down from earlier in the day, somehow. The transformation wearing off had helped a lot. But it still left him with questions.
How had this happened? Why had this happened? And what did it mean for him?
And he had no idea where to even start, apart from this.
He smiles nervously, and shifts with awkward energy]
So I know this is kind of a weird question. But... how do you know if you're dead?

So I know this is kind of a weird question. But... how do you know if you're dead?

And then Danny asks if they're haunted and Varian realises what the beeping is. He rolls his eyes, groaning.
"Okay, so we have this little...plant thing haunting the apartment," because that's a normal statement to make. "Fern got this little...electronic pet toy. I took it apart to try and figure out how it worked and I guess it uh...haunts the place now? I don't know how. It doesn't make sense technology can haunt anything but there you go."

"Well, about that. You remember when I told you that weird portal I remembered. I remembered something else." He winces and glances away. "And I think that maybe I died there?"
no subject
"...You do? What- what happened? Exactly? Maybe it's...not that bad."
He's genuinely trying to convince himself here.
no subject
"So... you remember how I said I thought I was walking into some kind of portal? Well, it turned on. While I was inside. And then all I remember is being electrocuted and there was some crazy green energy." He shudders. "It felt like it was ripping me apart or something. And then I fell out of the portal and I was like this."
no subject
"Maybe the portal de-atomised you? That would make sense if it felt like it was ripping you apart," a pause. "Though that would suggest you would be super dead, yeah. Sorry."
He's doing his best here, okay. He IS genuinely sorry.
"Though...you've lived here all your life, right? So... the other you...probably died and somehow that's...transferred onto you?"
no subject
"Are you suggesting I died so horribly in another life, that its what, echoing on me in this life too?"
no subject
"...Yeah okay when you put it like that it does sound pretty bad."
Understatement of the century there. He clears his throat.
"But uh, good thing? You're not dead! You're just...getting...echos of...dying? Okay yeah the more I say it the more I realise it sounds really bad however we slice this."
no subject
In response to his emotions his glow only brightens.
"Uh... am I supposed to be happy about maybe only being partially dead?"
no subject
"Um- no no, I mean- probably not?" wow he's not good at this. "Look- maybe it's not that? I don't know- there might be a...non-fatal answer to all of this?"
no subject
Danny might be crossing the line into panic. Just a little.
no subject
"Okay um- deep breaths?" is that insensitive to someone who might be dead in another life? "It might just be a....science experiment gone wrong? There was that glowing turkey, right? Maybe it just seemed like you died...the other you, but you...he didn't? Like one of those comic books Luisa showed me. There was a guy in there who got bit by a radioactive spider but instead of dying like he probably should have done, he got spider powers? Maybe it's...like that?"
There's a long pause.
"But instead of spider powers, you got...ghost powers?"
no subject
"I haven't been breathing! How long has it been? How long can you not breathe before it starts doing damage?"
The rest of Varian's comments barely make it through his level of panic, and make no sense to him in the moment.
"I... What? So what, I'm a wereghost now? Bitten by a radioactive ghost?"
no subject
Varian shifts a little closer, squinting at Danny.
"You're not breathing?. That's- you definitely should be unconscious by now if you weren't breathing if your lungs needed it."
Was that helpful?
"I don't know, I've never dealt with anything like this. The ghosts back home are just...dead people who have unfinished buisness."

He's trying to keep his tone calm, even. At least he's used to Fern now- it gives him something to step forward from.
"Fern? He lives with me, he doesn't breathe either and he's fine. I mean, he's made of grass, sure, but my point still stands. It- it's still workable."
no subject
Danny panics a little more.
"Varian! You know how to take pulses, right? Do I have one?"
no subject
Is he helping? He feels like he's helping!!! Then he stares at Danny like he's grown an extra head.
"Um. I think it's...somewhere on your arm????"
