WHAT: A mother & son picnic!
WARNINGS: Potential for both fluff and feels. Prepare your heart?

[Pepa is a little nervous. She's had to shoo clouds away all day. She's nearly ruined the food she's been preparing on more than one occasion. Getting a little picnic meal prepared for she and her son-but-not-son, Antonio. But eventually she has everything ready and packed in the basket. Ready to meet with Antonio at the entrance to Blue Fish Park.]

Should we set up near the water to see the ducks?

[Admittedly, Antonio wasn't sure if he was doing the right thing. He wanted to spend more time with his 'mother' and yet, he didn't know what he would do should his other 'mother' find out. Still, he wasn't going to ignore her as she got a picnic ready.

Giving a nod, he couldn't help but nod.]

I think we should! Maybe if we go near them, I can go talk to them.

[Pause] But you have to be careful. The ducks can get really mean if you don't give them enough food.

[Pepa has sort of had some things happen that have turned things on their head for her. She's no longer sure if Antonio is really her son?

But at the same time... she can't turn her back on him.

She and Julieta were planning to speak with his 'other parents' at some point and she knows maybe they should do that before spending more time with him. But... well. How could she refuse him?]

I'll be very careful then. Help me choose the perfect spot, okay? Not too close, but close enough for them to see us?

I know the perfect spot! They told me that there is a tree that has a really good view of the pond.

[That being said, he pointed to said tree before gesturing her to follow him. Walking toward the shade, he gave a chuckle.]

It's over here! I hope you like it because I don't want you to get hot.

[She can't help but smile as she steps under the tree's shade. How thoughtful!]

I think it is a perfect spot. The shade will be nice. Why don't you help me spread this blanket out here?

Mhmm, of course!

[With that, he wasted no time in attempting to spread out the blanket. Of course, he wasn't sure if he was doing a good job as there were some lumps in the middle but that's okay.

As he looked up at the blanket and then back at Pepa, he couldn't help but give a small smile.] And there, I think that should do it! I think I did okay?

[Sometimes things aren't perfect. It's all okay. Pepa is positively beaming just from how cute and earnest the attempt is.]

You did a good job. Let's get our food set out and get comfortable. And then maybe you would like to tell me more about yourself?

[She thinks she's ready to hear about his life here. How it's different from what she knows.]

[Once he sets everything down, he found himself staring at the blanket. Giving a slight frown, he wondered just how much he should tell. She wasn't a stranger but he also knows there was only so much he could say.]

What do you want to know? Because I moved here a while ago so a lot of things are still kind of new to me!

[All the while he was sitting on said blanket and leaning a little closer Pepa.]

What is your family like? What sort of things do you do for fun? Those kinds of things.

[She's... curious about the... 'other family'. But she gives him an opening to discuss hobbies instead if he'd rather not talk about them.]

Usually, we go out to eat a lot or we have a movie night where we watch something. But it's not often.

[Again, he was shifting his weight.] They're really busy so we don't spend a lot of time together.

Ah. I see. I'm sorry they're so busy.

[Her heart hurts. Antonio sounds so sad about it...]

Do you have friends to play with then?

I know there are a couple I can play with but they're usually in school.

[Pause]

And most of them don't know about what's going on either.

Do you not go to school too?

Huh, no I do! It's just that it feels like I'm by myself. Since not a lot of people my age know about what's going on?

[Right. This is... a complicated situation. It's more than any five year old should have to deal with. She feels guilty about how she's been handling it. Maybe... maybe she never should have spoken to him at all? Maybe all she's doing is confusing him?

Would of, could of, should of... she can't change it now.]

Do you want to talk about it? You can always tell me how you're feeling 'Tonito. We can work through those feelings together.

[Again, there was a pause. As much as Pepa was his 'mother', he also didn't know how much he should tell her. There was only so much he could say when she didn't know him as much as he didn't know her.

I think it just makes me sad that nobody believes me when I see and hear a lot of scary things going on. That's why I do try to make friends but it's just... [He was before trailing off. What was the word he was looking for?]

Makes me feel alone?

There... are a great many scary things happening in this city, aren't there?

[And honestly... she understands what he's saying to some degree. That loneliness. Being a Madrigal sort of made you... 'other'. People (mostly) liked them. But there wasn't really anyone to talk to about the downsides of their gifts.

Honestly they were encouraged to ignore the downsides...]

But you aren't alone, Tonito. Any time you see something scary you can tell me. And I am sure you can tell any of the family. Your Tia Julita, your Tio Bruno. Mira. Luisa. And there are older children around who seem to notice the strange things happening? I know it isn't the same as talking to the children your own age but it may make you feel a little less alone?

[He didn't say anything at first. The mere mention of hearing that he has his "family" around was making him feel slightly uneasy. And yet, it was nice to hear that he had at least some people to fall back on.

Glancing down at the ground, he didn't know what to say back. However, that didn't stop from him smiling a little.]

They do sometimes and it makes make me happy that they listen. It's just strange sometimes since it feels like I'm always talking to people older than me.

[Pause] I wonder if that's a good thing or not.

If it makes you feel any better, I seem to mostly be speaking to people younger than me.

[She laughs, trying to lighten to mood a little.]

I guess so but it must get tiring to talk to people who aren't as old as you.

[He said before giving a slight frown.]

Or at least, that's what people tell me.
