[Catalina doesn't seem to realize she's broadcasting to the whole network, as she kind of skims through the new app on her phone. She doesn't remember installing it, and it feels like some kind of weird sign that she shouldn't do what she's about to do.]

It's not going to change my mind. I'm... I'm doing this for me.

[ The voice that she hears sounds pretty young, and Luisa can't help being a little worried already. ]

Hey, uh...Is everything okay?

[Luisa probably has every right to be worried. Catalina pauses, before she realizes the voice on her phone is talking to her. She thinks about leaving the message, but... it can't hurt to answer, right?]

Mhm! I'm making a very important decision and I'm not going to let some weird app on my phone change my mind.

[Hoo boy.]

[ That is definitely a bit concerning. ]

What kind of decision?

Oh, I'm going to leave home and live in the park! I'm going to build a treehouse and make it my new home, where I don't have to follow any rules or deal with dumb adopted families ever again!

[ Well that's definitely not good. ]

Isn't...that a bit dangerous?

[ Dangerous is a bit of an understatement, but Lusia has a feeling that just telling her not to do this would just make her want to do it more. ]

Danger? Danger is my middle name!

[Actually it’s Margaret and she will die if anyone finds that out.]

I’ll be okay! I can handle myself pretty well.

[ Somehow, Luisa isn't sure how much of that she really believes. But she'll let it slide for now. ]

But what about when you get hungry? What will you eat?

I'll... find food! Or steal it, if I have to.

[BRILLIANT 12-YEAR-OLD PLANS]

[ So much concern. ]

But...if you get caught stealing, won't they just take you back to the place you're running away from anyway?

[turningred]

If they catch me. And my family is going to just take me back there anyway, so why should I just sit around and wait for it to happen?

[She means the orphanage, but she's not being very clear about that.]

[ Luisa can't help frowning, even more confused now. ] Wait, where would your family be taking you back to?

[turningred]

I mean, the place where they always dump unwanted kids? That’s where I was before.

[ Unwanted kids? What kind of place is that? ]

But why would your family send you to a place like that?

[turningred]

Because they're not my family! Not my real family!

... I've been through lots of families. None of them ever stick. Why would this be any different?

[ It still takes her another moment or two, but eventually it starts clicking into place. ]

So they adopted you? You've had other families do this?

Yeah, a lot of them.

I'm tired of it.

I'm just going to take care of myself.

[ She's starting to understand now, and her heart aches for this little girl. That's a lot to be going through. ]

But won't you get lonely on your own?

[turningred]

[Catalina goes quiet for a moment.]

Better to be lonely than to be let down again.

[ That only worries her more. ]

People let you down a lot, huh?

[turningred]

… Yeah, they do.

I'm sorry to hear that.

[ She really doesn't like the idea of this little girl trying to be on her own, but she can't exactly force her to go back home either.

But there is at least one thing she can do. ]

...So listen. If you get hungry, there's a restaurant in Midtown called Nuestra Casita. Do you think you can find it?

That's a pretty new restaurant, isn't it? I can find it.

[neverbreaks]

Yeah, it's pretty new. My mother runs it, and I work there, so if you get hungry you can come on by, okay?

... I don't have any money.

That's okay. We have plenty, so if you drop by I can pay for you. It's no problem.
