May Event Log

May Event
Dominant Element: Shadow
Waning Element: Light

After a month full of rainy days, the promised May flowers are in full bloom. During the day, Kaisou's weather is warm and sunny. Colorful flowers are blooming everywhere, with the strong scent of lilac and other spring time flowers permanenting the air. The nights, however, seem darker than normal. Streets lights are dimmer, as if being weakened by the strong darkness. Not only that, but the moon, stars, and spirit vein in the sky glow less brightly as well - as if shrouded by a veil of darkness.

It's Gonna Be May

May is a busy time of year for many folks in the city. The high schoolers will find their schedules are pretty full between finals, spring performances, prom and graduation - try to remember to rest where you can! College students will have it busy as well, with their own sets of finals and graduations to worry about. And for those of you who don't have to worry about school, there's still plenty to do. With the weather so nice, there's plenty of spring time activities going on. The planting season is in full swing, barbeques are being held, a couple marathons are happening on weekends, and for those of you with good relations with your mother- Mother's Day is fast approaching! And if you're looking for something a little more festive, throughout the first week throughout the town there's a number of Cinco De Mayo day festivals! Catch a Mariachi band playing in the park, visit a Mexican art gallery on an free day, or grab some authentic mexican food from a food stand or restaurant.

If you take the train to Stardew Valley, the town has settled back into its normal spring routines. Take some time to live some peaceful farming life, or get some fishing in. You'll also find that the first ten floors of the mines are now available to explore! These first ten floors will be full of ore, gems, and weak monsters. Every time you step into the mine, the layout seems to change and you need to find your way around once again. It's a great place to go if you want to get some training in, or mine materials to trade with Zodiac for cash. Just don't stay in the mine too late, as you might collapse when 2am rolls around and wake up at the entrance of the mine with your stuff gone.

La Llorona

Like any big city, crime is a regular part of life. Theft, assault, drug use, the occasional homicide - all par for the course. But starting the night of May 6th, a new crime will begin appearing on the news at an alarming rate. Bodies will be turning up in Kaisou's various bodies of water, all drowned with no evidence of a suspect. All of them are people who just happened to be out at night by themselves, with no connection between them. One or two of them could be written off as unfortunate accidents, but when a couple are happening every night? It can't be mere chance. Someone, or something is drowning these victims.

While the normal side of the city can't make sense of it, rumors are spreading like wildfire among those who run in paranormal circles. Rumors of a ghostly weeping woman dressed in white wandering the streets at night, usually not far from where the victims are discovered the following morning. As the rumors grow and spread with more sightings, a reoccurring notion keeps appearing amidst the fearful whispers: La Llorona has come to Kaisou. Inquiring or researching more will get you the following tale: La Llorona was once a mother who drowned her two children in a fit of emotion. After she realized what she'd done, she drowned herself, but was denied to move onto the afterlife until she finds her children. Now she wanders the Earth, drowning those she comes across, as she continues the search. Any attempts to exorcise her have never stuck, and the best advice anyone can give is to stay inside at night and away from water until she's had her fill and move on from town.

However if you fail to heed the warning, it's not hard to run into La Llorona yourself. Simply go out into a secluded area at night. If you're quiet, you'll find her wandering around weeping as the rumors say. But if she's alerted to your presence, she will chase after you at an alarming speed. If she catches you, you'll find she's inhumanly strong and will attempt to drag you to the nearest body of water to be drowned. You can fight her off or have someone rescue you, but she's a tough fight. Attempts to exorcise her with holy weapons will seem to work -- only for her to reappear an hour later in another part of town, once again seeking victims. Anyone who is drowned by La Llorona will follow the typical rules of dying, so be careful!

And even if you manage to stay in at night and avoid La Llorona, troubling occurrences may still follow. Starting after La Llorona's arrival, anyone who is dead or possessed might wake up to find their face covered in skull face paint, stylized in ways that represent either their death or the thing possessing them. While this face paint goes unnoticed by normal NPCs, it cannot be washed off. And anyone who is in a room that's not properly lit will find that the darkness seems to play tricks on their mind. Sometimes shadows will move out of the corner of your eye, or you'll swear you heard something scratching at the walls, or someone wailing in the distance. You can learn to ignore it, but for many it'll may cause them to feel a heightened sense of paranoia and unease. Those who keep look into it will find the effect only strengthen - with shadows moving in front of them in the form of monsters and villainous forms, and whispers of words you just can't make out. It can become a real toll on one's sanity, if they aren't careful.

The Black Order

After a week of La Llorona terrorizing the city, an alert will be sent out from Zodiac on the Libra App.

ALERT: SHIFTING GATE LOCATED ON CATHEDRAL HILL.
Element Classification: Shadow
Danger Level: Extreme
Designation: Land of the Forgotten
A new gate has been detected on Cathedral Hill. We have reason to suspect this is the gate is connected to the recent drownings in the city. If you choose to investigate, we will compensate you for your work. It's also come to our attention that there's been sightings of Black Order Guardians around the gate. Please use extreme caution around these individuals, as they are highly dangerous and hostile to Zodiac agents.

The atmosphere around the Zodiac offices are tense. Not only has the infamous La Llorona arrived in the city, but the presence of the Black Order has them on edge as well. Honestly, it's hard to tell which they view is the worst part. If you ask about the Black Order, Zodiac will talk about how the Order is unreasonable zealots that don't understand humanity could benefit from the Spirit Realm. Turns out, they have a long, long history of not seeing eye-to-eye. Lend a sympathetic ear, or just hurry them up so you can rent out a weapon. They don't have much information about this current realm, as the Black Order has intercepted any attempts for Zodiac agents to enter - since apparently the realm is classified as "sacred" (yes, they used airquotes as saying this) and ergo admission is prohibited by non-Order members. Professor Willow has a more neutral stance on the Order, saying they mean well but they're pretty rigid sometimes in not allowing P.O.K.E.G.O. to investigate certain realms after an incident involving a cow ten years back. Either way, both Zodiac and Professor Willow feel confident that since you all aren't exactly members of Zodiac or P.O.K.E.G.O - maybe you'll have more luck in getting through!

Maybe.

The gate is found in Cathedral Hill, in an old nearly-forgotten cemetery behind all the churches. It appears to look like a majestic mausoleum of sorts, with a strong dark energy radiating from it. And just like Zodiac said, there are folks dressed in black uniforms that can be none other than the Black Order Guardians. There is one frequently posted at the gate's entrance as guard, while the other guardians investigate the realm inside. Should you be lucky, you might be able to slip past without any of the Guardians noticing. Otherwise...you may either have to talk or fight your way through.

The Land of the Forgotten

Once you find a way past the Guardians, it's time to enter the realm. The sight that lays before you is a grim one. A land of ruins, covered in ash. This is the Land of the Forgotten, where things long gone and forgotten eventually find themselves. The landscape is littered with ruins that have been forgotten by time such as pyramids, towers, and castles, slowly eroding away and turning into ash themselves. As characters born of this world wander these ruins, they will notice some buildings look familiar to them. Places from AU character's memories can be found scattered among the realm: the schools they attended, their old houses, the place they once worked, and so on. These places can be explored in full, though they are in a much more ruined state than they were in the memories. Still they look in better shape than some of the other buildings, almost like remembering them slows their descent into ash. But what are they doing here in this realm?

As you explore these ruins, you may want to be careful as you aren't the only ones in this realm. You might encounter Black Order Guardians that are also exploring these ruins. Or worse, you may run into the denizens of the realm. There's the Tlahuelpuchi, female vampires that can shift between human and vultures or an monstrous form in-between. These vampires are out to drink people's blood, but can be fought off using metal. Any bodies of water (forgotten streams and lakes that are among the ruins) have Ahuizotl lurking within, a dog-sized creature with a hand on its tail that'll grab anyone who gets near with the intent to drown and feast on their flesh. And through some ruins prowls Dzulum, large jaguar creatures who are territorial and have claimed certain ruins as theirs.

However even with these monsters, the most numerous beings are the souls of the forgotten. They have a skeletal look to them, and huddle throughout the realm, all in varying stages of forgetting themselves. A few of them might recognize you and call to you, but it's a person you've long forgotten either in your current or past life. Try to jog your memory as much as you can, but their name and face always slips out of your grasp. Most of the souls have resigned themselves to begin forgotten and eventually fading to ash, some even embracing it and making the best of it. However, some have not accepted their fate and have grown so resentful they've lost themselves in another way. Their skeletal forms are more monstrous and they will attempt to attack the living. Try to avoid or fight them off as best you can. Once defeated, they will crumble into ash.

Xibalba's Castle

The current ruler of this realm is Xibalba, a god of the dead. His castle sits in the center of the realm, surrounded by a river of lava. You must cross the ruins of the realm to reach it. Once you reach the river of lava, there is but one narrow bridge that allows safe passage. Some will find it an easy crossing so long as they don't fall into the lava. However those who are unlucky will happen upon yet another challenge, the two headed lava snake Quetzocoatl who guards entry to the castle. You'll have to either fight it off or outrun it, if you want to make it past.

Inside the castle, they will find Xibalba, lord of the Land of Forgotten and god of the dead. He cuts a tall and unsettling figure, being made of tar and all the filth in the world. Yet even so, he's awfully personable for such a being. He explains that this realm is the place where things that are forgotten go to slowly fade away. It's a depressing realm, certainly, but a crucial one to this world. After all, how can new stuff come to be if the world is full of old forgotten things? In fact it's so crucial that he isn't even the first god to rule over it, he took it over from the last guy 500 years ago. When asked about La Llorona, he will shrug and say that this realm can't sustain itself in the "usual prayers" like some other realms. So it's fueled by the occasional offering of lives, fresh ones. Long ago, humans on earth would offer up sacrifices willingly but now - well, that's fallen out of favor, so he sends La Llorona out to collect offerings. Once she's drowned 68 folks to sustain this realm for awhile, they'll move on from Kaisou - just like he promised those Black Order guys.

This might be the time to turn away, but for those unwilling to accept such a deal that'd allow innocent lives to die- you can keep pushing. Any attempts to fight him directly will end badly, with him moving out of the way of any blow and pointing out that even if they do kill him, another will just have to take his place. However those who try to bargain with him will find him more amendable. He'll recall a ballgame that used to be done for an offering ceremony that was very effective. So effective that it'll cut the required offering down! Though anyone who volunteers themselves should be warned - the losing team will be offered up as sacrifice.

The Ballgame

Characters can volunteer themselves to play the ballgame in order to stop La Llorona's killing spree. If there aren't enough volunteers among the player characters, some of the more noble Black Order members will volunteer to fill the roles. Once there's enough for a team, Xibalba will tap his staff against the ground and everyone will be teleported to a ceremonial playing field. Those playing the ballgame will be on the field, their clothes changed to represent their team colors (red or green) while their realm travel companions will be stuck in the audience seats among a crowd of forgotten souls who are more than happy to watch a sports game.

Xibalba will note that the game once placed for this ceremony has been mostly forgotten, and while he could explain the rules, he rather not watch a poorly played game. Instead, he'll propose a game of soccer - as soccer is life, according to many. With that, he'll throw a soccer ball to the the skeletal referee and tell them the game is on! Play like your lives depend on it -- because they actually do. And with that and a blow of the whistle, the game begins. The characters will have to play soccer against one another, all the while knowing that if they lose they will die - and if they win? It will come at the cost of the lives of people they already know.

When the game is over, it's the green team that comes out victorious. The forgotten souls cheer loudly for their victory, throwing dead roses and confetti ash at their feet as they're escorted away from the field, some even being carried on the shoulders of the dead. But then as Xibalba stands, the crowd falls quiet. The red team are herded to the center of the field, along with anyone who may attempt to try to intervene. Xibalba walks down in front of them, saying "You played well, but, a deal's a deal". And with a flick of his wrist, ceremonial knives appear from thin air and fly at the red team - stabbing each one of them in the heart. Their bodies fall lifeless into the ground, and as their travel companions and the winning team are escorted out of the arena by the forgotten souls, you can hear talk of them planning to remove their hearts for the offering. Anyone who attempt to intervene at any point will meet the same fate as the red team.

Aftermath

After the game has concluded, the survivors are given safe passage out of the Land of the Forgotten, their returned trip being escorted by forgotten souls who will make sure nothing dangerous comes near. Once back in Kaisou, the Black Order members will gather together before disappearing into the night. True to Xibalba's words, La Llorona's attacks will stop and the night will return to normal. Even the face painting on those afflicted will slowly begin to fade. Looks like those sacrificed weren't in vain.

Speaking of those sacrificed? They'll wake up in their beds, either the next morning or sometime in the following week, alive and well. As they wake, they will see a beautiful woman covered in skull make up. She will smile and say "Thank you. What you did really impressed my husband, you know, so we thought we'd return the favor." before disappearing. While some may have a scar from being stabbed on their chest and some emotional trauma from the ordeal, they're alive and as healthy as they were before.

Going to Zodiac with your findings will get you paid a handsome rewards. The Realm will remain around until the end of the month, if anyone, um, wants to go back there. Luckily Zodiac won't offer any jobs that'll take anything from the Land of the Forgotten and will instead steer people to bring them stuff from Stardew Valley. Seems they rather not push their luck this time.

And finally, once the issue has been resolved, the Black Order goes quiet once more. They'll hang around town and appear if someone tries to cause problems in the Land of the Forgotten, but otherwise they're content to fade from the background. Once the gate disappears on May 31st, they'll seemingly leave town all together. Strangely enough, as time passes, while you recall your dealings with the Order, you'll have trouble remember anything about the specific members. Personal details such as their names and faces seem to escape your memory. No matter how hard you try to remember them, you can't remember anything about the individuals themselves. Strange, huh?

OOC Notes

The dominant element this month is shadow! Anyone with an affinity to the shadow element will find themselves boosted throughout the month. This could mean a boost to their power, having more energy, feeling more inspired with creativity, having better luck on different attempts -- the boost can manifest in all sorts of different ways. By contrast, anyone with an affinity for light will be experiencing the opposite. Perhaps their powers will be weaker, they have less energy, they're having a creative block or general worse luck - again it can manifest in all sorts of way and players are free to play with this mechanic as they'd like.

If you wish to have your character sign up for the ballgame, it can be done so here by May 11, provided there are slots open.

Death in the soccer game or by La Llorona's hands will be penalty free for player characters (meaning they aren't required to lose regains or get possessed - though they are certainly welcomed). Soccer game deaths can revive in between 1-7 days after the game (roughly around May 13th), while those drowned by La Llorona will revive 1 week after their death, or after the soccer game is concluded - whichever takes longer. Characters that die by other methods OR want to experience the penalties will need to comment to the major character update page. NPCs killed by La Llorona will not revive.

Interactions with Black Order members are done here! Every character can only interact with 1 Black Order member, so choose wisely! If you play multiple characters, we ask that you only tag a Black Order member with one character until Saturday 5/7 to give every player a fair chance to interact. You're good now! Feel free to tag with multiple characters! Group threads are allowed, but in order to avoid overwhelming the NPC players, there is a set number of threads allowed per Order member! Please pay attention to the cap counter before commenting!

Any fights or interactions with NPCs besides the Black Order members will be handled by the players! Feel free to thread out things however you'd like! If you have any questions, please ask them on the plot questions thread below! The original OOC plotting post for this event can be found here.

I SEE. i"MSORRY;i"M NOTUSED TO THIS. UsuallythEONLY PEOPLE,WHOAPOLOGIZE TOME ARE COVEN SCOUTS.

[Never his peers, and certainly never people of a higher authority. It's weird and it makes him feel uncomfortable.]

OKAY. tHANK YOU.

[Elliot had a feeling that was the case. From everything he's heard from Belos, he can't see that guy ever taking personal responsibility. ]

It's alright. You'll just have to get used to it though, I can get pretty apologetic.

[That seems like the best way to phrase it, for now]

Anytime. It'll take a bit, but we can keep talking over this.[He'll switch over voice-to-text as he gets up to grab his stuff again] How was your trip to Zodiac?

i'lL TRY.

[He really will, though he isn't totally sure how he's supposed to handle this aside from awkwardly accepting any future apologies. It feels like he's missing a piece of the socialization puzzle.]

iTWENT FINE. THEYDID SOME TESTS;BUT NOThING INVAsive. [Since he knows Elliot would be wondering about that.] iTHINK THEY WERE SURPRISEDiWASALIVE,

[Yeah it's the piece of the socialization puzzle where people actually treat you with respect. Still, Elliot is relieved to have reached some kind of understanding on that front, compared to this morning. Maybe trying to tackle it before coffee was a mistake.]

Thank goodness. [He breathes out, shoving stuff into his bag that he might need.]And I'm sure they were. Coming back from the dead isn't normal in the human realm.

iT ISN'TNORMAL BACK IN THE BOILING ISLES,EITHER. wE WOULD HAVE RUN TESTS LIKE THEY DID.

I thought that might be the case...

[A world where death isn't a big deal still seems beyond Elliot's comprehension, but you can never be too sure.

He's quiet for a moment as he finishes up grabbing his stuff. Leaving it on the reminder that Hunter died feels a little awkward, so...]

Hey, Hunter. I wanted to ask you something. Do you like your apartment?
cardinalrule: (uncertain)

[personal profile] cardinalrule 2022-06-02 11:50 pm (UTC)(link)
[He doesn't mind the bit of silence, though bringing up the Emperor's Coven makes him wish he was back there.]

mY APARTMENT?IT"S ADEQUATE,i GUESS. WHY?
fiddlestick: (elliot193)

[personal profile] fiddlestick 2022-06-03 12:42 am (UTC)(link)
[Right, okay. Here goes. He takes a deep breath. He's rehearsed this. He can do this. ]

Don't feel like you have to answer this right away. You don't even have to give me an answer today. And even if you say no, I won't be mad and nothing will change between us, okay?

[He is just MAKING THAT CLEAR out of the gate]

But remember how I said I was planning to move? Well, I found a place. A much nicer, bigger place than where I am now. There's even three bedrooms! It's more space than I'm used to, honestly.

So I was wondering, until you find a way home, if you'd...would like to live with me.

[oh god he's said it. It was a mistake to make text-to-speech because his nerves are flaring up and he immediately starts nervously rambling]

You'd get your own room, of course! And you'd be allowed to come and go as you'd like! You're a little too old for a curfew and I doubt I'd be able to stop you anyway-

[GAH. STOP]
cardinalrule: (is this wise?)

[personal profile] cardinalrule 2022-06-03 11:38 pm (UTC)(link)
[Hunter really has no clue what Elliot is thinking, so he really does try to listen (rather, read) and ignore the sudden, creeping dread in the pit of his stomach. And what comes is... well, unexpected.

Hunter stares down at his phone. Would he like to live with him? Is this because his current apartment is so small? Does Elliot think it isn't adequate enough? Or... is this because after dying he doesn't think he can't handle living on his own?

It has to be that. If Belos had known what had happened he'd act similarly - punishment in the form of removing some of his independence. He had done exactly that back home, ordering him to stay in the castle after his failure in acquiring more palismen. He knows Elliot isn't Belos, he knows that, but he's having such a hard time considering any other alternative -]

IT'S GOODYOU"RE MOVING.

[He manages to get that message out, but actually giving an answer is much more difficult.]

i DON"TWANT TO IMPOSE.i"M OKAY IN MY CURRENT RESIDENCE, anD I'M SURE YOU DoN'TWANT TO SEEME AROUND ALLTHE TIME.

[But he remembers how angry Belos was. He doesn't want to repeat any of that.]

BuTIF YOU DON"TtHINK i"m CAPABLE OF LIVING ONMY OWNANYMORE THAT WOULDBE FINE,
fiddlestick: (concern)

[personal profile] fiddlestick 2022-06-04 12:31 am (UTC)(link)
[Elliot picks up his phone and reads through all the messages, trying his best to ignore the knots forming his stomach. His first anxious impulse is to immediately backtrack and go "haha nevermind sorry" - as he's done so many times before, out of fear of being seen as clingy or annoying.

But he takes a deep breath, pushing that impulse aside. That's not what's going on here, and jumping to that conclusion is exactly what caused the earlier upset. He can't repeat that mistake again, and needs to see Hunter for who he is. ]

It's not that I don't think you're capable. You are. I stayed over last night because you just went through something. The offer's really not meant to be a punishment.

[Did he have concerns about the state of Hunter's apartment? Sure! Clearly this kid could learn how to feed himself better. But it wasn't dire straits.]

It's more I know how lonely it can get, living alone. When I moved out here, I wasn't much older than you and I was determined to do everything by myself. To prove that I was capable. And I guess I did, in a way, but... well, I've been realizing lately I was a lot more lonely and miserable than I let myself believe. Maybe if I let more people in...it would've been different.

[He would've had more happy college memories, more connections to this city. Maybe he would've been as happy looking as the other Elliot looks in those photos, surrounded by friends and family]

You wouldn't be imposing, and I like having you around. You're good company, Hunter.

But I want to respect what you want. So if you really would prefer to live on your own, that's okay. I can find another roommate. But I wanted to ask you first.

[personal profile] cardinalrule 2022-06-04 02:33 am (UTC)(link)
[Well. That's a story, and it gives Hunter a much, much better understanding of why Elliot is asking him. He believes him when he says it isn't meant to be a punishment - it's because of his own bad experience living alone. He doesn't want Hunter to go through that.

It's more than a little awkward, he isn't used to people (outside of Belos) caring this much about his wellbeing, but it's also nice. He fidgets a bit, trying to figure out an appropriate answer, and feeling entirely lost.]

oH.

[Good start. Great start.

Maybe he should just be honest? He wants to be honest.]

i DON'TKNOW WHATi WANT. bACK INTHE BOILING ISLES I LIVED IN THE EMPEROR"S CASTLE. THERE WASNEVER ANY DISCUSSION oTHERWISE.

[He keeps on typing, and while he's normally a very rambly kid it all just kind of... spills out.]

[personal profile] fiddlestick 2022-06-04 12:47 pm (UTC)(link)
[He watches as the messages come in, letting them all come before he responds. Elliot has spent day after day in class with Hunter and several times outside of class, so he was used to his tendency to ramble once he gets started.

Besides, it's a very enlightening story]

I see. So that's why you've been so worried about making mistakes lately.

[Hunter's always fretted about that stuff, but he did notice how that tendency has really intensified ever since he came back from his visit to the Boiling Isles. Like always, it went back to Belos. But more than that, it shows that Hunter really didn't have much experience making his own decisions- especially as big as one like this.

No wonder he's so anxious. Elliot will set the living situation talk aside for now, since the talk about mistakes seems to be more important]

Listen, I'm a different person from the Emperor, so we're going to react to things differently. If you make a mistake around me...we'll talk through it. Even if you do something that hurts my trust, we'll talk about it and figure out what can be done fix things, okay?

It's like when you were first learning violin. When you played a note wrong, it'd make that awful sound, remember? It always feels pretty bad when you make that sound, I know. But remember what we did? You didn't give up and I didn't take your violin from you. We'd talk about what went wrong and how to fix it moving forward. And nowadays your violin playing sounds much better. That's how it goes for a lot of mistakes. They feel crappy when you make them, but you can usually learn from them and improve. And as your teacher, it's my job to help you through that process.

The Emperor, even if he cares about you and meant well - he's still an Emperor. People with that level of power get really used to getting what they want immediately, and so it can be easy to forget that mistakes can happen. So when mistakes do happen, they can sometimes ... overreact. You hear it happen all the time with really famous musicians. So maybe that's why he jumped immediately to restricting you to the castle after you failed the assignment, because he wasn't sure how else to handle it.

[Ok, Elliot actually questions whether or not the Emperor actually cares and he could critique him further, but Hunter doesn't need to hear that right now. He can give a generous read on the guy for this]

As for your living accommodations ... I don't want to tell you what to do, you're a little too old for me to just decide everything for you. But how about this? You don't have to decide right away. We can keep your current apartment, but also set up a place for you in my new place. You can try out living in both places for awhile, and then decide what you prefer.

I wouldn't mind at all. In fact, I tend to believe that it's best to give big decisions like this one long careful thought.

Does that sound okay with you?

[It's easy to read that Elliot isn't the same as Belos, but it's harder to fully wrap his head around the idea of another authority figure not having the same expectations as the epitome of authority figures. He's so used to navigating Belos' whims and needs that it's second nature to him, having to break that is difficult, to say the least.]

oKAY. I REMEMBER THAT. iT MADE MY PLAYING A LOT BETTER. [Talking out where he needed to improve certainly made him want to work even harder, though talking things out makes his anxiety spike. He isn't used to it, though the small bit of experience he's had with Elliot helps a little bit.]

HE WASN'T OVERREACTING. HE WAS BEING PROTECTIVE. HE"S

[Oh boy.]

[It's better if he mentions that. It'll help Elliot understand.

And that seems like a good solution. He really isn't sure, so maybe testing things out will help him decide.]

yES, THAT'S A GOOD IDEA. LET'S TRY IT AND SEE HOW ITGOES.

It did. I've been really impressed at your progress this year. [He knows that Hunter isn't passionate about music - or at least, hasn't figured out how to connect with it emotionally yet. He knows the reason he works so hard is just to get Elliot's approval. One day he'd like to talk to him about it, but for now he's leaving it alone. It wasn't like having that outlet was hurting anyone.

Elliot feels his heart sink when Hunter types out they were family. He had his suspicions, based on stuff Hunter has said. But to know that a person as abusive to Hunter was also his only relative ... he hated it, he really did. It would make everything that much harder when Hunter finally faces the truth.]

I had a feeling he was family, from the way you talk about him.
I'm sorry, overreacting might've been too strong of wording. It's normal for family members to get protective of one another. You should hear how Rean can get about his little sister - it's extreme.

[Not mentioning his own family. That one is way too complicated a mess]

I was more trying to explain why he might be less patient about mistakes, even if he means well. That's all. It wasn't meant to insult him.

[....Even if he'd love to throw him off a cliff.

But hey!! He liked the compromise. Elliot feels relief. Now he just has to make sure not to screw things up.]

Okay, great! The lease doesn't start until June 1st, so we got time to get things ready.

tHANKYOU. THATMEANS A LOT.

[He still hasn't quite figured out the emotion people put into music, but regardless he's putting his all into it. Belos didn't raise a nephew who half-asses things, after all.]

iT'S OKay.I DON'T advERTISE ITVERY MUCH.

iCARE ABOUT HIMA LOT SO iCAN IMAGINE WHERE REANIS COMING FROM. pEOPLE DON"TKNOW HIMLIKEi DO,,SO iT'S HARD TO HEAR WHEN HE"S CRITICIZED.

[He loves his uncle so much!!]

oKAY THAT IS GOOD.

[The extra time will help him process this. It's a big change for him.]
fiddlestick: (oh boy)

[personal profile] fiddlestick 2022-06-05 08:23 pm (UTC)(link)
[Oof. Even if logically he had already known this was true, it still wasn't easy to hear the words come from Hunter himself. It's a small mercy that this is over text, so he can't bare witness to Elliot getting choked up a little and the sheer look of sadness that he knows is on his face.

Belos was a monster. Belos was a danger to Hunter. These were indisputable facts. But Hunter's love for him has blinded him completely to this reality. Were Belos to arrive here, Elliot couldn't rule out that Hunter would throw him and anyone else who'd been trying to help him under the bus just for his uncle's approval.

Elliot really was in over his head. He really did throw himself into the deep end on this one. ]

I know. You're a very loving and caring boy, Hunter. To him, to Flapjack, to your friends - It's one of the things I really like about you.

[Well... Deep end or not, he'll just have to figure out how to swim. There wasn't any other choice. He cared too much about Hunter to just write him off]

Alright, I'm ready to drive over. It's not safe to text while you're driving, so I won't be responding for a bit, okay?

[While he's not lying by any measure, he can't deny it's a good excuse. He needs a moment to collect himself a little, and the drive over there is the perfect opportunity. ]

[Well, that's got the tips of Hunter's ears turning red. Compliments are still new to him, and being told he's loving and caring? Unheard of. It doesn't help that Flapjack is cheeping excitedly in agreement with Elliot.]

THANKYOU.

[He feels like he should be replying with something else, but he isn't sure what, so that'll have to do.]

OKAY,THAT"SFINE. SEEYOU SOON.

-> ACTION, AGAIN

👋

[No time for a proper reply, time to head out. He heads to the car, has a moment of meltdown in the parking garage (don't mind him), before collecting himself and turning on the car. He decides at the last minute to return to McDonalds (it's one of those days ok) and tries not to die of embarrassment when the staff recognizes him from earlier that day. Thank god he's moving because he clearly he can never return to this McDonald's location again.

Eventually about half an hour later, there's a knock on Hunter's door. It's Elliot, looking more put together than he did the day before (albeit with some bags under his eyes and some redness). He's got his bag slung over one shoulder, and his other hand is holding a drink traveling tray that's holding two coffees and two Mcflurries ]

Hey, I'm back.

[Hunter, meanwhile, it going to try and busy himself with some homework. And some Zodiac reports. Honestly, anything that feels like work and can remind him of home. Talking about Belos has made him tired and homesick, and after so much change he needs to get back into his comfort zone.

It helps, a little. At least, it helps him not think about all the changes going on in his life.

When Elliot arrives he's working furiously at his desk. He'll pause to answer the door, Flapjack tweeting happily and circling around Elliot's head. It's a whole lot of hello, friend! and it's very cute.]

Hi. [Hunter just feels awkward. So, so awkward, and steps out of the way so Elliot can come in, shutting the door behind him. He eyes the tray confusedly.] What are those?
fiddlestick: (elliot222)

[personal profile] fiddlestick 2022-06-07 12:58 am (UTC)(link)
[He'll smile at Flapjack, giving him a little wave with his free hand. What a cutie] Hey Flapjack, nice to see you too!

[Elliot steps into the apartment, his eyes glancing around. He does notice all the work that's out on the desk. Yeah...looks about right. He focuses his attention back on Hunter]

It's some coffee and a McFlurry - ice cream. [He'll head over to the table to set the tray down]

...You've had such an eventful couple days, I thought you could use a treat.
cardinalrule: (oh)

[personal profile] cardinalrule 2022-06-07 10:23 pm (UTC)(link)
[Flapjack does one final circle around Elliot before flying over and settling on top of Hunter's head. Just normal bird things.]

Oh. [There's a look of comprehension on his face because he does, in fact, know what ice cream is! He moves over to sit, eyeing the ice cream.]

We've got that in the Boiling Isles, but we call it ice scream. [Because of course they do.]
fiddlestick: (elliot191)

[personal profile] fiddlestick 2022-06-07 11:14 pm (UTC)(link)
[Such normal bird things. The bird in the hair is adorable though.

He moves to sit down as well, grabbing his own McFlurry and drink out of the container. ]

Eheh, sound like a name the Boiling Isles would use. [It's cute though, reminds him of something a little kid would say] I hope the flavor's ok. I wasn't sure what kind you'd like, so I just got what I usually get.

[Which is M&M's because of course he'd pick the most colorful one]
cardinalrule: (oh?)

[personal profile] cardinalrule 2022-06-08 10:09 pm (UTC)(link)
[Hunter doesn't even bat an eye, he's used to Flapjack nesting in his hair.

He'll take his McFlurry as well. He digs in, shrugging a little.]

I'm sure it'll be good. [And it is! Hunter luckily likes sweet foods, though he'd never admit it, but he's downing that ice cream as fast as a person can reasonably do so without giving themselves a brain freeze.]
fiddlestick: (elliot248)

[personal profile] fiddlestick 2022-06-09 12:49 am (UTC)(link)
[Elliot meanwhile is eating his own McFlurry at a normal pace. But he has eaten enough meals with the other to notice the sped up pace compared to how he usually eats foods.]

Ha...seems I found a winner.

[So Hunter likes ice cream. Finally, that's one food he can put into his mental list of the kid's food preferences.

He won't dwell on that though, instead focusing on business as he continues to eat his ice cream. ]

Anyway, I know you got stuff you want to work on, so I won't get in the way of that. I can also email your other teachers about any make-up homework you need to do. [It'll...sure take some explaining but whatever he'll figure out something to tell his colleagues] Though later on, I'd like to get some violin practice in. It's been several days since either of us have practiced, and I'd hate to get rusty.

[In other words, still a lowkey day, but one that's more productive than yesterday. An attempt to gradually transition back to, well, some semblancy of normal]
cardinalrule: (curious)

[personal profile] cardinalrule 2022-06-09 11:15 pm (UTC)(link)
[Sugar is great. Sugar with even more sugar in the form M&Ms is even better, and if there's one thing Hunter is finding the human realm does well, it's sugary foods.

He listens as he eats, finding Elliot having come up with a plan for the rest of the day incredibly reassuring. It means he isn't going to be left alone with his thoughts, which is the last thing he wants.]

Alright. I have some reports I need to finish for Zodiac, but they haven't given me any new assignments yet. [They were a little more concerned about those tests, and getting the paperwork about his death sorted out.] I'll have time to fit violin practice in, that won't be a problem.

[He fiddles with his spoon a little bit, then adds:] I'm sure I can use the additional practice.
