Perhaps the most direct approach to finding the answer would be to ask it.

I do understand Bangboo speech, so I would be able to confirm.

[They take a minute to flip over to video. Showing off the inside of Hermes’ room (a mess), where Benny is nosing more batteries into a pile in front of the Avocaboo.]

[Who is seated on a beanbag, intently watching the Yamper at his task.]

Hey buddy! Say hi to Lycaon, yeah? He can translate so we can get you back to your person.

[Fre Shavacaboo doesn’t even look up. Just informs Hermes that it is their Boo, for the fiftieth time.]

[Lycaon watches the small scene play out, and a curious Robin hops up onto the counter to look into the feed with him. The Avocaboo has certainly made itself at home, and Lycaon's ears twitch at the resigned 'ehn-nahs' that follow.]

I see.

[He nods in affirmation.]

Two things, Hermes. One, it appears this Avocaboo has registered you as its owner. From how it sounds, it has never had another one.

Second, it has registered 'Fre Shavacaboo' as its name and now answers to it.

Congratulations, Hermes. This is without a doubt your Bangboo.

[This is a lot to process. First of all, Lycaon said the words “Fre Shavocaboo”. Which should be soundclipped and saved for posterity.]

[Second of all, what really gets Hermes’ brain cell running on its wheel is… theirs? This little guy is registered to them?]

[Even Benny looks a little resigned right then. Yeah bud he knows you need a minute but c’mon.]

Mm. It seems to have been reassuring you of this the entire time.

[He smiles, tilting his head as his voice lifts up just a tone.]

If you truly require proof, Miss Belle is excellent at Bangboo maintenance. She could verify it for you. But I think nothing is more affirmative than its own words.

[Oh, they're going to clip it. It's their new test message sound for Lycaon's texts.]

[But that's beside the point. Because their attention is now totally focused on the Boo. It looks up from the battery project, and just holds its stubby little arms up. A good move, as Hermes whoops, and dives across the room to scoop it up. Spinning around.]

Hey little buddy!! Thank you!! Oh my god - ohmygod!!

[This is so great. This is almost as cool as Vash making them a shrine.]

Yeah! Belle! And Eous and Butler and Robin and your angry one in the closet! Ohmygod, you're my Boo buddy!

[Lycaon they're so happy. They almost want to cry.]

[Lycaon watches the little scene play out with a smile on his face, and even Robin is trying not to get all emotional by turning his head away, patting Lycaon on the shoulder.

They grow up so fast.]

I'm truly happy for you, Hermes. Since you do now have one, perhaps it would be good to learn how to understand their language. It was practically a universal second language in my past life, so it was quite easy to pick up.

[Their new Boo seems to be pleased with the situation too. As much as it was resigned to trying to explain the ownership thing to them, all that is resolved. They eventually flop onto the floor so they can keep hugging Fre Shavocaboo and pet Benny at the same time.]

Dude, I think I'm gonna cry. In a good way, in a good way!

[They do sound choked up.]

Yeah-! Yeah I got to! And - And I should talk to Belle too right? So I can take good care of it?

[As they celebrate, Lycaon idly watches Butler come into the kitchen, as Robin immediately abandons him to go chase after him. Crazy lil guys.]

That's correct. I will say they are mostly self-sufficient. Once you have a recharge station hooked up they will enter it on their own much like a bed. They can find batteries themselves and perform basic maintenance.

But Miss Belle can answer any questions about the specifics. It would be good for your Bangboo to meet Master Eous as well, as they are the cornerstone of our Bangboo's social group.

[Hermes doesn't seem like they're going to let go of their Boo any time soon. Fortunately, Fre Shavacaboo doesn't seem to mind.]

Where do I get one of those? At like. Best Buy or ...? Do I have to go to the weird store with the guy?

Not to worry, they're quite easy to come by, now that Bangboo are common among Kaisou. We can pick one up to have it installed right in the corner of your room.

As for Master Eous, it is all but guaranteed. They have made friends with every Bangboo in both lives. And it will also have Butler, Robin and...debatably Arsene.

[It's not that Arsene would reject the friendship but...would they leave the closet is another matter.]

Yep.

Bangboo can get very attached to their owners. If they get separated from them, it's not unusual for Bangboo to spend ages trying to track them down- like the pets in Homeward Bound.

So if the Avocaboo is choosing to hang around you rather than leaving to try to find their owner, maybe they've decided you're the owner.
