Who: Carolyn and anyone
Where: Libra Network
When: Late October
What: Carolyn got a surprise in the mail
Warnings: None
[The video turns on to Carolyns face close to the camera, visible bags under her eyes]
I don’t know why but for some reason ever since this cursed app showed up on my phone things that shouldn’t be possible or happening keep popping up. I get a package in the mail and I think it’s supplies I need for an experiment but no it’s this thing.
[She whips the webcam over and down, the oversized sleeves of her hoodie covering the camera briefly. When the camera is clear again it shows a ribombee in a tiny lab coat, sitting on her desk going to town on a pixy stick. The rest of the desk is littered with papers with formulas written on them and the remnants of a very large bag of assorted pixy sticks. The camera whips back up to Carolyns face.]
And as if the insect wearing clothes wasn’t enough there was also what I thought was a walking stick but the moment I touched it—
[The camera whips over again, this time in the other direction. As the camera refocuses it reveals a small teal wyvern perched on her shoulder wearing a tiny monocle.]
It turned into this. This goes against literally every law of nature. AND WHY DO ALL THE CREATURES SENT TO ME HAVE ACCESSORIES. I’m either in a coma or someone is pulling a prank on me. That’s got to be it.
[The camera goes to black as she keeps rambling to herself, the little wyvern nuzzling against her before the video ends.]

As for the accessories, clearly it's to look cute.

[Carolyn is hyperventilating while typing this and trying to rationalize things that clearly can’t be.]

If it makes it easier to accept, Ribombee really aren't that different from bumblebees beyond being friendlier and more capable of understanding human speech. I couldn't tell you much about your other friend though since they're not a pokemon.
Video
You know, this thing happened to me when I came here too.
By the way, do you go to the University? You look familiar.
Re: Video
[Carolyn pauses typing for a moment as the implication sinks in.]
Wait, how many people on this campus are affiliated with this bizarre app? Because between you and the energetic pink one, though she was only there for one seminar.

[She shrugs.]
I think it's less the University and more the city itself. At least, that's the vibes I've been getting since I showed up here.
Text; UN; C6H12O6
I suppose the city is strange when I think about it. Honestly I haven’t left my dorm or the university labs much since I started attending university. My roommate always says I should leave the dorm more and I’m starting to suspect she’s right.

If you want someone with you, I wouldn't mind wandering around more.

[Even if they were drastically different she probably wouldn’t have processed it at the time.]
Also I tend to get rather tunnel visioned when something gets my attention so someone like you may be able to help keep me on task. So yes, I wouldn’t mind.

[Or watch your back while trying to repair a generator, but, this isn't the Entity's Realm, is it?]
Let me know when and where to meet you, and I can be there if I'm not in class.

[She was not expecting this kind of offer so is unprepared for suggestions. She is also pretty sure people like shopping for pharmaceutical grade chemicals for fun.]

Sounds great! I'll figure out some places to check out.

Unfortunately, this is just kind of your life now. The whole magic thing's gonna be a lot to get adjusted to, but I promise it does get easier after a bit. And I'm speaking from experience there, by the way.
[He pauses.]
I don't have all the answers or anything, but I can try to answer some from the perspective of a guy who had all this magic stuff dropped on him at once a couple years back.
Text; UN; C6H12O6
I would appreciate your viewpoints on this. I can’t quite seem to make sense of the new information I am learning with the fundamental laws and theories I am familiar with.

Honestly, it's probably better you became aware now, instead of when the city's gone into magic-based crisis mode.
It can definitely be a lot to reconcile, especially right at first. You've got the time and space to start processing it a little at a time. Probably better to have that than to get dunked into the deep end right out of the gate.
[Because yeah, it can absolutely get worse!]
So, I'll do my best to answer whatever questions you've got. Ask away.
And as for helpful resources... we've got this group in the city called POKEGO, who primarily research magic and the Spirit Realm. They also have care guides for Pokemon, which could be helpful for one of your new friends there.

[She stops typing for a moment as she processes the earlier statement.]
Did you just say “magic-based crisis mode” as if it is a regular assurance?
[she is desperately hoping that was some weird typo.]

[He sends over the address to Cygnus Academy.]
A bunch of them work here, so this is probably the easiest place to get in contact with someone. A couple of my friends work with them and they're pretty reliable people.
Yes, and trust me, I wish I hadn't probably as much as you do.

Thanks, I’ll make sure to fit time in my schedule to swing by there. As for the other topic I am just going to block that from my mind because I am just a simple Pharm student. I’m sure whatever chaos might ensue won’t be relevant to me.
[She sure wishes that was the case.]

[Is she going to explain what POKEGO is? No. In fact:]
Can I come over and pet your wyvern?
Text; UN; C6H12O6
Oh, the supplies are just for some lab experiments and it turns out they were also delivered. They just were at security for holding, something I am very used to by now.
[I can’t believe I’m about to do this, she thought to herself before typing the next part.]
Yeah, pop by anytime. I think it would appreciate the attention.
text
[March damn near beams down at her phone.]
Yay!! I've got some free time, I can come over right now and pet it. Is it okay with me taking pictures??
Re: text
To be honest I think it would love pictures. Oh and my things sometimes need to go through security because ever since the incident they have been a bit jumpy with my packages.
[Should she elaborate? Yes. Will she? No.]

Oh, uh. Hi! So yeah, magic's just a thing here. I know, I get it, it's hard! Especially when you're used to science. [Varian, your best friend in your home world had eighty feet of magical hair that could revive the dead, but sure, "used to science" okay, buddy. ] But it's definitely very real!
I find it helps to think of them as something quantifiable anyway. The magic here still runs by rules, after all. You just need to learn them, as they're not exactly the same as normal scientific rules, is all.
Text; UN; C6H12O6
You say there are rules, do you have any links to some academic papers I can look at. Perhaps even some studies into the properties? Rules are rules even if they conflict I can make sense and use this. Perhaps this “magic” is like oil and water with science. It won’t mix, unless you have an emulsifier. I would greatly enjoy any further guidance you can point me in the direction of.

And the kind that listens to her rambling and detonates the building her world stood on.
... Or the secret third option: Be Wei Wuxian and fall squarely in the middle.]
hello and welcome to the world with pokemon! the world of theorems and laws has opened a new door of possibilities for you! (¯▿¯) the ribombee that's imprinted on you is a bug and fairy type, colloquial scientific categorizations you know?
it creates pollen puffs that can be used for pharmaceutical purposes! medicinal, recreational, you name it. congratulations!
can't help you about the little dragon though ┐(︶▽︶)┌
no subject
Pharmaceutical purposes you say? Oh I am absolutely going to have to play around with the properties of it a bit. How does one get it to produce these “pollen puffs”.
[The moment she sends the reply she is already writing down experiments to test the effects and properties.]
no subject
[must you phrase it like that.]
well ideally, when it likes you a lot! if it notices you're having a bad day, it might make you some on its own. if it doesn't like you, it won't. and pokemon are more intuitive than your average pet. usually they can tell if you're trying to pull a fast one on them.
giving them treats is nice, but you have to really bond with them too. especially because ribombee's pollen puffs can really hurt you if you make it mad (•⩊•)
