Right, so, I know this is rather on the late side for most of you, but. I've just got to check something, because either I've been drinking too much [and he sounds very sober right now] or I'm being haunted by ghosts.

[A beat, as he remembers the poltergeists who've taken up residence around him.]

More ghosts than usual! Typically they ain't people I know, but this week hasn't been typical. I passed through poor Stede Bonnet, for Christ's sake, he's been staring at me like I've done him a grievous injury.

[Raising his voice:] You're a ghost, mate! You're fine! Stop looking at me like that.

[At a normal volume:] Anyone else going through this?

A lot was an understatement, pretty much anytime she wasn't occupied with something specific in the city she'd been there.

[Come to think of it—it's been a while since he's spotted Ritsuka around town, hasn't he? Their text thread's full of pictures of Hyrule, has been for the past couple of weeks, and now he catches himself wondering about that.]

It's not exactly bad, but it's an extraordinary number of ghosts following me around, even for this city. [A breath.] I suppose what I've found strangest of all is just how many of them are people I knew once.

She'd still shown up for work and class and such, but between trying to actually get used to the idea of living on her own again, and that cool egg she found at the Goodwill hatching into an actual dinosaur, well. It made sense if her attention was elsewhere lately. Right?

"Like, people you knew before you came here?"

Aye. They've not tried to harm me—well, yet, in one or two cases [since he's the one who killed them]—but it's certainly an oddity. Even for this city.

[A breath.]

Think they might just be limited to this city. You say you haven't seen any, having been in Hyrule instead?

"Not out here, no. Though I haven't really paid attention much when I'm at work or class, either."

Funny side effect of being in a hurry to get out of there!

Right. [He can make a good guess as to why the hurry, now that he thinks about it.] If you wish, I can hang out with you for a day, and we can see if there's anything haunting you the same as this lot's been doing with me.

"Oh, if you want to? I mean, it sounds like you kinda have your hands full already..."

So she said, but Ritsuka definitely perked up a bit at the suggestion. Spending time with friends and family was one of her favorite things, after all.

Well, Living with Lapis means that ghosts are a normal thing in my life, but that's just because she can communicate with them and channel them and stuff.

I'd say for anyone else... this doesn't seem normal. At all.

Did you want me to get Lapis to come talk to them to see why they seem to want to haunt you, specifically??

I've grown used to some objectively bizarre things these days, but this is—a different kind of strange to what I'm used to, if you take my meaning.

[A hum.]

For some of them, sure, I can't fathom why friends of mine would want to haunt me in particular. For others? [A shrug.] I can tell you right away: I killed them, and they're rather displeased about that.

[calling angrily to someone:] Well, Ben, if you weren't a fucking snake, I wouldn't have had to kill you! [back to Jinwoo, genially:] Sorry. If it helps, he had it coming.
