[Jun disliked posting to the network at large, it leaned too close to public speaking. But he knows this is one of those things you're meant to tell people and-- Varian and him knew too many people to contact them one by one. And since he lost the rock-paper-scissors competition between them... well, let's just get this over with]

I'm happy to announce Varian Vasiya and I are officially engaged.

The wedding won't be for a long time, as both of us want to complete college first. We will let relevant parties know when a date has been agreed upon, though it'll be a few years from now.

If anyone has any tips or advice about weddings or engagements, we'd appreciate that.

Mm, school is really important and Varian only started college recently, so it's important for him to be able to focus on his studies. And I don't mind a long engagement period, since it means we can save up for the wedding.

It makes things much easier to plan as well. You'll have the perfect amount of time not just to decide on things, but to book them as well if you need.

A word of advice faaaaar far in advance though... [Oh this'll be good if she's breaking out the long letters.]

Never tell your caterers it's for a wedding, they'll shoot that bill right up!

The perfect amount of time? Do you really need to book a venue four years in advance...?

And it will? What should I tell them instead?

I'd hope not four years, but if it's a popular place, you should certainly expect at least one I'm afraid. Though if it's somewhere more unique you might not have to worry at all!

(I would say the perfection is in being able to take your time in choosing. It's something that's only going to happen once, so you'll want the best place for it I'm sure.)

Now as for the food- it's quite fine to say it's for a gathering, a party...it's really just that 'wedding' label that brings it up, it's rather dishonest I find.

(Which makes it quite fair to counter it!)

And yeah, we've quite literally got plenty of time. We know what we want, but it can wait a few years until school is done. Gives us more prep time then.

As far as advice goes, remember to enjoy your engagement!
It's a huge first step into married life, and you can take this time to bask in it~
Never ever feel rushed to a wedding, too! If things come up unexpectedly, it's okay to postpone it if need be
It's supposed to be a day to celebrate a new chapter of your life and your love for each other, so make sure it's a day you look back on with warmth and fondness!

I'm afraid I don't have any advice on big weddings. However, one of my past lives had a small, private ceremony with just himself and his husband, and we had been content with that. I believe the best advice I can give you is to make sure that you do something that will make both of you happy. Whether that's having a private ceremony for yourselves and a bigger wedding with your loved ones later, or however you want to handle it. As long as you're both happy with it, that is enough.

I'm a Catholic, so I'm planning to ask my priest to marry us. I've known him since I was a kid, so it feels fitting. [It's Jun's singular sticking point in terms of the wedding itself.]
