As the third month of the year begins, so do the blustering winds that come with it. In the sky, the Spirit Vein shifts to hues of green as the Wind element becomes dominant. Throughout the month, winds from the south will be steadily blowing. Fortunately with these winds, will come increasingly warm weather as spring finally starts to arrive to the city.

The Winds of March

A spring starts to roll into town, the city itself comes out of its own hibernation. There's a lot more outdoor activities to be found during this month, despite the constant wind. In Blue Fish park, it's pretty normal to find people flying kites of various types and styles. There's even a kite vendor selling their wares, if you feel the urge to go fly a kite yourself. Or, if you haven't learned your lesson, the kitsune are offering discounted kites that are "guaranteed to fly". These kites will fly, certainly, but they will also break their string and start taking swoops at you. Really, you should know better by now.

In Undertown, with the arrival of spring, comes spring cleaning. Many of the shops are doing clearance sales to help clear out storage rooms that badly need cleaning. In these sales, you might be able to find old magic tomes or relics that haven't been commonly seen in years. Most of them are pretty useless, or completely outdated (not much need for magical cures to smallpox these days) - but the academic and historical minded, they might find some great finds among these items.

However, the place that'll notice the most change this month is none other than the University District. Starting this week, Kaisou University will no longer be completely on the ground. While some of the buildings still remain on the ground, a unbelievably massive tree have appeared in the center of the campus, and now many of the school buildings are located up among its branches. While there are pathways and stairs that'll lead you up into the tree to where you need to go, the layout is now completely confusing and will easily get one turned around the first few days. There also doesn't seem to be any elevators currently installed either, so... it'll be a long climb. Curiously, if you listen to what normal people have to say about this, they will see the tree as nothing more than a giant hill with a lot of stairs... and act like this was here the entire time.

Shooting Stars

This month, seers will begin to get visions regarding meteor showers. These visions are often come with a positive feeling about them, but considering the last time a meteor shower came it led to a heartless attack- one can not be blamed for feeling anxious about them anyway.

The following night after these visions appear, the sky will be lit up with a brilliant meteor shower. Brightly colored shooting stars will streak across the sky, giving an incredible light show. While many of the shooting stars disappear over the horizon? Others will come falling much, much closer to home. As in, right in front of you. As the meteorite crashes to the ground, you'll realize it's not so much a meteorite, but a package that resembles some of the packages you find at the goodwill. It'll even have your name on it, with an item inside that's meant for you... good or bad.

Seems the stars are at it again.

Meanwhile in Hyrule, they're having their own meteor shower. Instead of random gifts, should you chase after one of these falling shooting stars, you may come across a star fragment. These star fragments are a rare material, and according to locals, could be used to craft some incredible items. However, Hyrule is a vast place and it might not be easy to locate one of these star fragments, and they have a tendency to vanish if they aren't found by first morning light. Just following one across the sky might lead you traveling miles until you hit the landing spot. Either you have to be really ready to run a marathon, be really lucky... or you could see if you can have a seer help pinpoint a location where these shooting stars are meant to land.

NEW THREAT: Eclipse

Since last November, the majority of Kaisou has been protected from the Spirit Realm by a magical barrier powered by the Crystal Tower. As long as you stay within the barrier, you'll be relatively safe from any dangers that the Spirit Realm could throw at you. However, for those on the outskirts of town, whether it be in Kami State Park or another edge of the city, that aren't inside the barrier-- it's been an entirely different story. Not only has there been a noticeable amount of extra Spirit energy in these areas, but there was that cold snap in January.

And now, it's going to get worse.

During the month of March, there are reports of tears opening up in the area outside the barrier. These will first appear as cracks of red, before forming into firey red gates- pulling anyone who is near it into the labyrinth within. These labyrinths look like omninous stone corridors, filled with unusual monsters that can only be destroyed via magical needs (meaning ordinary weapons do nothing against them). At the deepest part of these labyrinths, there will be a larger monster that controls this gate-- along with any poor soul that got sucked inside with it when the gate first manifest.

These tears don't manifest randomly, not quite. Rather, they have a tendency to manifest when someone exhibits strong negative emotions that draw the monsters within the labyrinths to them- as that's their favorite kind of meal. Once someone is pulled in, they will have a limited amount to save them before they're eaten. Whether the victim is saved or left to a grisly fate, the gate will linger for some time afterwards- though clearing the labyrinths out of all monsters will certainly help protect any innocent people who pass by.

And you know how every cloud has a silver lining? Well in the eyes of capitalists, so does every monster infested spirit realm. The monsters in these realms will drops crystals of pure condensed elemental energy, an extremely rare material that can be used in magical crafting and in magical spells. Vendors in Undertown and Zodiac will pay a pretty penny for these crystals. Not only that, but there are three organic items that could be used as interesting cooking ingredient: Lunar Mutton which is meat that never goes bad; Star Truffle which is a rare mushroom that shimmers like starlight, and the biggest moneymaker of them all in this era -- Solar Eggs, a type of egg that glows brightly when cracks, and makes the most delicious egg dishes.

OOC Notes

The dominant element this month is Wind! Anyone with an affinity to the wind element will find themselves boosted throughout the month. This could mean a boost to their power, having more energy, feeling more inspired with creativity, having better luck on different attempts -- the boost can manifest in all sorts of different ways. By contrast, anyone with an affinity for Earth will be experiencing the opposite. Perhaps their powers will be weaker, they have less energy, they're having a creative block or general worse luck - again it can manifest in all sorts of way and players are free to play with this mechanic as they'd like.

[March blinks awake, holding her camera in hand, and freezes up in surprise when she realizes: she's not in her bedroom. She's fully dressed up in a cute outfit she was hoping to save for a stream, but now it looks dirty and bedraggled, like she'd gone trekking through rough terrain.

Which, uh, she has, apparently. She blinks, looks around.]

What am I doing in Hyrule?

[On the seventh, in between all the celebrating and the feasts and the shopping spree, March slips away for a few minutes and takes out a photo of herself, encased in ice. She stares down at it for a long while, then sighs.]

I really thought it was going to work this time.

[She tucks the photo away in a pocket.]

It was kind of silly, thinking the magic skeleton could get around—whatever it is that kept even Order out. But...I just wish I had some clue.

Said the talking, winged, three-tailed fox. Well, that was pretty normal for Ritsuka, at least. As was being in Hyrule in general.

"I came over to say hi when I saw you, but I think you were sleepwalking or something?"

March's birthday! God she wishes things operated on the perception of spring instead of the official date.

Anyway, fun with shopping aside, she needs a chance to actually Deliver The Present. It's super cute. She made sure it was super cute. It has cat ears. It's got a neat lid that makes it look like the cat's playing with a toy.

It's the Right Colors and definitely isn't from starbucks ignore that part.

And also she was able to weave a neat little charm into its carry strap, which may or may not have monster aid in there, don't worry about it.

March has...slipped away though, and it takes a hot minute to track her down.]

Dan Heng hasn't had to transform into this before this point, but it had been the only way for him to keep up with her and defend her at the same time. He tosses his head as the only indication of his worry.]

It seems you led us straight to a fallen star, though.

[Dan Heng tilts his head to the side. Close by, there is indeed a glowing star fragment for the taking.]

Jax doesn't have friends- no matter how much March tries to state otherwise. He just doesn't. He doesn't have to give a shit about her, in face, giving a shit is a downward spiral he doesn't want to get into. He should just walk the fuck on from whatever's going on here.

A: Of Guiding Winds

[This might be the one and ONLY time Venti will begrudgingly thank the fey for giving him the ability to not need sleep anymore. He's been a bit scarce lately, even at The Vogue, but anyone who reaches out to him will still receive prompt responses like normal. It's extra strange given that March is usually the month in which he's at the height of his energy. Not even the other Wind month of the year gives him as much pep in his step.

However, at night, he can be found in Hyrule near the stables. Venti's practically swarmed by the horses there begging for treats and affection from the small bard. He laughs as one tries to get into his pocket and gently but firmly pushes its nose away.]

Hey, I already gave you my apple! You can't have anymore or you'll get a stomach ache!

[The bard looks up when he hears someone approach and smiles brightly.]

Joining the others in hunting for shooting stars? The winds are more than a little eager to help give directions on where they'll land, so allow me to be your guide! Ah, you'll just have to pay me back with an apple since Starsnatch over here ate mine.

B: A Bard's Adventure

[Perhaps instead of directions, you've managed to convince Venti to join you as a more direct guide. Not wanting to take a horse when he can become travel sized, the little wind wisp will perch delicately on a shoulder, their head, or really anywhere that they're willing to let him roost. He looks like he's greatly enjoying himself.]

Ya-hoo! There's nothing like feeling the wind off the back of a galloping horse!

[The quality of his voice has changed in this form. He sounds less human and more like the very winds are speaking.]

Ritsuka already spent quite a bit of time in Hyrule, and this month was no exception. Should anyone also happen to be there with her around when night falls and meteors streak across the sky, she might turn her attention to them.

"Think we could find one of them if we try?"


[II. Dungeon Grinding]

Of course, Ritsuka wasn't going to let the randomly spawning dungeons and their monsters hurt people if she could help it. That there were potential good item drops to be had wasn't even really a concern on that front, even if it was arguably a nice bonus. The more important part was rescuing whatever hapless bystander happened to be grabbed if need be, or simply clearing out the remaining monsters left behind if not.

"Come on, I bet we can take them on if we team up."

A: Preparation

[Dan Heng can be seen in Hyrule during the day hauling mining crates with little-to-no effort. He's taking them over to an area that is close to the exit back to Kaisou, but not in the way of people coming in and out. The crates are neatly organized with signage indicating which pile is for surplus and which is for the needed amount.

Once the pile of crates for what they need is quadruple-checked to make sure every crate is accounted for, he takes out a map of the area and scans it intently. After some deliberation, he puts it away and starts loading the needed crates onto a wagon. If he spies anyone approaching, either to help or trying to sneak away, he'll call out to them:]

Help me load up the other wagon. These need to get over to a spot near the stables before nightfall.

[However, if they look to be someone who might be more useful or interested in combat, Dan Heng will look them up and down and instead say:]

Guard the surplus crates while I'm away. Some of the creatures here might try to use that as an opportunity to steal the crates.


B: The Haul

[Once the crates are taken over to an area near the stables, Dan Heng unhitches the horses from the wagons they used to give them some rest. As night begins to fall, he sends an announcement on the Libra and Gemini apps about where to bring the star fragments to. If anyone wants to help him defend the location from the local minions of darkness, he will welcome it.

Between the battles, he'll be checking over the contents of the crates and weighing them. Some might call it obsessive, but Dan Heng's not about to lose a single ounce because someone decided to test their luck and line their pockets with any of this precious ore. If he has to give into his more territorial instincts in order to do this effectively, then fine. His senses are on high alert, and anyone coming within 500 feet of the area will be noticed if they're not actively trying to avoid being detected by magic.

Anyone coming over will be met by Dan Heng.]

Are you here for drop off or do you have questions?

[POKEGO members can come and go unchallenged by him, though. He'll just give them a nod of acknowledgement before taking note of their haul or information they have.]

[Varian's careful to avoid most of the fighting going on. While he is absolutely capable of standing up for himself in a fight- he knows his skills are far better at use in working in the mines. His earth element powers are great for sensing the mineral composition of earth- and his earth manipulation means he can just move the earth with a gesture to get to what he needs.

Besides, he kind of likes being down in the dark. He has good night vision thanks to being a werewolf, and he can move easily in the shadows. This is a job BUILT for him. He's reforming out of a shadow with a new crate of precious stones when he runs into Dan Heng, offering a smile and raising the crate. ]

Sure thing. Got these too, for a last addition before we stop for the night.

[Noctis, damn near exhausted from a full night of digging up star fragments, just drops off his haul wherever he's directed to put them, then kind of. Slumps down on the ground with a yawn.]

[Among the shops selling off older wares is Belle, who's set up a stand outside the store and has put out a box of VHS tapes and DVDs, all sorted into different genres. She waves a hand to the nearest customer.]

Hi! Come and take a movie home with you, we need to make room for newer stock! We've got VHS tapes, DVDs, even one or two Blu-Rays! If you wanted to own your very own copy of, [and she glances over to the movies and immediately winces,] Exorcist II: The Heretic, come and buy one!

[A beat. Then, at a more normal volume to Eous:]

...oh, god, I'd feel bad if someone actually bought that movie.

[two: total eclipse of the heart]

[There's a little robot bunny sitting outside one of the Eclipse realms, with a custom backpack. Approach, and the Bangboo perks up its ears and meets you halfway.]

Are you going in there? [The voice that comes out of it is tinny, and about the only thing you can tell of it is that it's a feminine voice.] I'll accompany you. My name's Phaethon, and I've been mapping the place as much as possible, but with all the monsters around I can't get very far. For obvious reasons. If you help me, I'll help with puzzles and material collection.

[It raises a hand as if to swear an oath.]

I won't be getting in your way.

[Kinich takes note of the robot rabbit and is about to keep walking. However, the Bangboo starts coming toward him. So he stops and waits for the little thing. He doesn't look obviously armed, but he's got the look of a disciplined soldier.

He considers the proposition seriously. Kinich has heard of Phaethon (12+3), so this might be a stroke of luck. Having a potential business relationship with a skilled hacker can be a mutual benefit. So I he gives the Bangboo a decisive nod.]

Very well, that seems fair. If The Order can have a copy of your map, I'll also pay you half of my commission pay from Zodiac.

[He kneels down to the Bangboo's level.]

The students that passed him seemed unfazed by the change, taking to the steps as if they've done so since the beginning of the spring semester...

Lowering the ear cup back over his ear, He remained rooted in place, trying to figure out where the faculty office was shifted to in his abhor nightmare. ]

I knew I should have taken all of March off.

[ The sun has already set by the time she and Jinwoo have stepped through the gate into Hyrule, so the sight of stars streaking across the night sky is bright and clear. The moment Lapis lays her on the sight, she has to stop and take it in - her eyes wide as she tugs on Jinwoo's hand. She had heard about the star shower, but seeing it is an entirely different thing. ]

It's beautiful... [ The lizard part of her brain rears up at the back of her head, demanding that she gets all the stars but she'll gently try to shoosh that. Otherwise they'll be here all night and the last thing she wants to do is subject Jinwoo to that.

But how her tail is wagging does betray her thoughts a little, her eyes finally tearing themselves away from the sky to focus on her partner. ]

You know, I assumed that more people would have some common sense about things.

[It's on-duty time, which means Noa of course is in his TBO vest, and in his actual form of a sphinx. Plus dragon wings. That was fun to get tailored.]

If you tell someone 'this is dangerous', generally the idea is to...Not, isn't it?

[Why. Are so many people. Why-

His ears twitch. Someone's coming.] Ugh, another one, well, time to see if they decide I'm a wolf or not...

[Go figure, cougars aren't really native to this area, so any mundane sorts chased off by Noa specifically have shouted..!

Wolf. It's highly irritating and embarrassing he hates this.]

[SHOOTING STARS...AND A CURSE]

[Well, bit by bit people have or haven't been chased away from the danger zones at hand. Sometimes in fact, Noa's had the joy of having to go inside the damn things, though in that case he's at least more in his element. He went toe to toe with that Ninetales thing after all, whatever's in these things isn't anything to sneeze at!

But one way or another as he gets his time off, something. Something. Came to a sour end. It's hard to tell what, since generally speaking in the city he's either a house cat (with dragon wings) or a whole entire person dressed in white (with dragon wings), but-

[One would be forgiven for assuming the package of goods with Noa's name on it landed on a goose. But that is not what happened, and the proof is in how Noa stiffens, wings tense, and hands over his mouth.

That did not just happen.

[DREAM WALK VISITATION RIGHTS - NOA'S NIGHTMARE PATROL]

[New or otherwise, if you're having a nightmare and aren't somehow protected from Something busting in, Noa will probably hop inside to handle it. That's his job after all- find nightmares. Stop nightmares. Leave. Rinse and repeat.

He can look pretty much however he likes in these settings, but for the most part he just defaults to how he looks naturally. A sphinx, body of a mountain lion, recent addition of scarlet dragon's wings, mane of green around his head...and...erm.

Well he looks a bit Spooky. To put it lightly.

Kind of misty. Ethereal. Like he's more of a ghost than anything. Might not have noticed that part.

Whoever's dreaming probably has though.]

Nightmare

This was probably an all-too familiar nightmare by now. The base was always the same: Ritsuka alone, defenseless, usually in a small apartment or such, sometimes elsewhere.

And then there was the attack. Occasionally the attacker varied, but most often it was a certain zealot. And always, there was nothing Ritsuka could do to fight back.

This was also one of those nightmares that was probably best to put a stop to very promptly indeed, considering.

I. Shooting Stars - Hyrule
[If you're out looking for shooting stars in Hyrule, you have a good chance of encountering Jun. He's not wearing his shroud uniform, but rather an outfit more suited for blending in with the Hylian locals.

It's easiest to find him at the stable, renting a horse to try to ride to chase the shooting stars. He keeps peering at the sky, hoping one to pass by]

I. Eclipse - City Limits
[On nights that he's not searching for shooting stars, he can be found near the barrier of the city in his shroud uniform. He keeps to himself, almost hoping no one spots him. But if you follow him, you'll see him crossing the the magic barrier into the edge of the city- heading towards directions where he's been sensing the new gates appearing.

Accompany him, or simply call him out, if you want. his goal is to deal with some of the Eclipse gates, whether he's alone or not. ]

I. Shooting Stars - Hyrule;

[ Ganymede's never seen many shooting stars in his life, but he has apparently this time around, upon wandering here.

And now he finds himself at the stables, looking at the horses. He doesn't mind animals, and has in-depth experience with them, but it's been thousands of years since he's last ridden one. ]

What a coincidence! It looks like we're both out here searching for the same thing.

[I. Monster Patrol]

Despite feeling a fair bit off this month, Meredith wasn't about to let that get in the way of helping out around town. Especially when word got around of people disappearing just outside the barrier.

So here she was, ready to intervene to try to defend someone from being attacked and dragged into a gate, or heading into the gate to rescue them.

"If you wanna help, I could definitely use a hand!"


[II. Patrolling Monster]

As the middle of the month neared, the full moon approached. And on top of already feeling vaguely under the weather Meredith started feeling a bit of something... else. That she couldn't quite put her finger on but did her best to ignore. It was probably nothing, right?

Well, apparently not, unless one were to call a hyena the size of a small horse 'nothing'. What's more, her deep-seated dislike of her own monster traits meant Meredith was inclined to fight the transformation rather than learn to control it, which quite quickly proved a losing battle. The only silver lining was that she did, it seemed, retain enough sense to focus on attacking the monsters specifically, so you're probably safe to approach or even join her.

At some point early in the month, Knuckles made a post to the network. He took great care with it too, making sure that the camera feed got a good look at his incredibly furious face. A keen eye might quickly spot the source of this irritation: assorted feathers sticking out from his red fur and quills.

"What is the meaning of this... This!!"

Yeah, the kid was having a Moment here.


[II. Anger Management via Punching Things]

Luckily(?) for Knuckles, there were those convenient, monster-filled dungeons that needed to be dealt with whenever they popped up. And the sooner the better! So chances are pretty good of running into him, either outside about to enter or somewhere already inside, powering up his fists with water, ice, or occasionally fire to pummel the monsters within to oblivion.
