Open for business: Aides du Meropide
WHO: Maxima and anyone at the Fortress who wants to show up
WHERE: The Fortress of Meropide common areas, Libra and Gemini networks
WHEN: Early January
WHAT: Official announcement of the formation of an adventurers' guild based in the Fortress
WARNINGS: None
[The video opens on Maxima standing in front of a bulletin board down in the Fortress. A banner with a Cerberus logo in blue and gold covers part of the board, with a short list of rules beside it, and plenty of free space left over for job postings.]
Hello, everyone. For those I haven't met, my name is Maxima, and today I'm pleased to announce that after a successful first test run, we are opening up the Aides du Meropide, an adventurers' guild based in the Fortress of Meropide. [He scrolls the camera view over the banner and job board for a moment before coming back into frame.] In order to help with the expenses of running the Fortress, we will be doing work around the city of Kaisou, handling tasks that are below the Black Order's threshold of attention.
Most of the payment we receive will go toward Fortress operation, but there will be compensation to guild members once we've established some cash flow, based on the number of jobs recently undertaken. If you know anyone who needs some work done, please reach out and spread the word. [He zooms the camera in this time on a flyer with a phone number, and then on a letterbox next to the bulletin board.] We have a voicemail line, and we'll be accepting submissions through these boxes in various places around the city.
Whether you're interested in helping or need help yourself, we look forward to hearing from you soon.

Things are coming together nicely, I think. Thank you again for your support in all this; it would be much harder if I had to recreate all the ledgers from scratch.
[Is he implying that he might have done it anyway even if Wriothesley hadn't been on board? It's possible.]
private;
As such, it feels wrong to make you do it all on your own. While I might not be much help with your missions, as I have my own missions to deal with alongside the Black Order--this is honestly the least I could do to help.

Honestly, though, I'm surprised that you didn't have more assistance running a facility of this size when it was at full capacity. That can't have been an easy feat.

We don't need guards here for prisoners anymore, but it's still good to have someone help me all the time.
Several someones, given how many people help with the coupon cafeteria, and checking up on the functionality of the fortress' inner mechanisms and vents...
It's a huge weight off my shoulders.

I'm well aware that we're nowhere near self-sufficiency yet, and perhaps we never will be, but I'm interested to see just how far we can reach toward that goal.

But now it feels like it'd be a waste if I were to step away from it all.
[ he chuckles a little. ]
Have you perused the new library we have? I'm curious to see what kind of things are in there. And perhaps if we can turn that facility into something that can also cause more traffic down here. Even if people aren't living in Meropide, there'd be merit in having visitors who may help us along in the 'becoming self-sufficient' idea.

Home still needs me. I...don't know who will carry on the work, if I'm not there to do it. I shouldn't let myself forget that.
[Is it really all right to enjoy the life he can have here, when his people are still suffering through the rebuilding?]
I have, but I admit I often still find myself somewhat lost. There's so much to learn and so many things that are new, outside my experience, sometimes I wonder if I'll ever learn enough to put things in their proper context. But it certainly seems like an attractive enough resource if others want to come and glean what they can as well. We are a little out of the way for casual foot traffic.

All I can hope for the both of us is that we may one day return without... too much having gone awry without us.
The ideal is that we return to it without any time having passed at all. But I know that's idealistic of me.
[ he chuckles, and he reaches across his desk to pick up a little notebook. ]
Whenever someone says something, or makes a reference that I don't understand, I write it down here. So I can later read about it.
It's taken a while to get the understanding of what I do have from this world, and I feel you're just like me in feeling like you won't ever NOT be lost, but.
One day at a time, right?

[If he wakes up again one day in a cot next to a ceruleum heater, will he be relieved or disappointed? How much of a betrayal is it just to have that doubt?
He does manage to smile a little anyway at Wriothesley's suggestion.]
I do try to remember things to look them up later, but writing them down isn't a bad idea. It always seems to lead from one concept to another until I've nearly forgotten where I began. [Wikipedia is dangerous like that.] But I can hope that that will grow easier the more I take the time to learn.
