action @ Kaisou HS and a thing at Kat's home, also network text (un: Astral)
WHO: Katida and anyone at HS (1), or Katida and the network (3).
WHERE: At Kaisou High for the initial part, at Kat's house and on the network afterward.
WHEN: April 1, afternoon and evening.
WHAT: Kat steals a broom and inexplicably acquires a new pet.
WARNINGS: Kat's stealing a broom?
1: at Kaisou High (open to anyone who would reasonably be there)
[School has just ended for the day, and Kat is just getting ready to go on her way out to start her walk home, with no extra stops planned this time. She tends to take her time at her locker, never really rushing things unless her family has any plans for after she got back, so the halls are mostly-empty at this point save for a few stragglers here and there, most of which don't typically pay her much attention.
On her way down the hall and toward the doors leading outside, she finds that the door to the janitor's closet on the ground floor is sitting wide open. That's just a little unusual: they didn't normally start this soon after the day ended, or maybe it's a sign that she's actually taking a bit longer than she normally did. As she passes by, something catches her attention out of the corner of her eye; an old broom that doesn't look like it belongs there with how old and awkward-looking it is compared to the others there with it. What's more, it looks familiar, like she's seen it before, like it's hers; she can't even begin to explain that feeling to herself, but it's there.
Initially, she decides to ignore it and kept right on going. After going about half of the distance from the closet to the building's exit, though, she stops. Finding herself unable to completely disregard that weird feeling in the back of her mind, she turns around and comes back to the closet again. There are a few additional brooms sitting in there with it, all in much better condition than that one, so it probably wouldn't be missed if it went missing. If anything, it would probably be assumed that someone went and threw the thing out.]
2: at home (closed to self)
[Ultimately, Katida did take that old broom, and she somehow managed to bring it back home with her and take it up to her room without too much incident.
After taking a little bit of time to deal with some things that were assigned for the weekend, she decides to go lie down for awhile; between the usual school things and everything about the past couple weeks in general, she's feeling pretty worn out mentally, and taking a rest while she's got the chance to do so doesn't seem like a bad idea. She only gets about half an hour of quiet before she hears something thump into the window next to her bed. She initially disregards it, but then it happens again several seconds later, just slightly louder than before, and then a third time, followed by a repeated tapping sound almost like someone or something is knocking at it.
When she pulls the window shade up, what she finds is a rather large purple owl. It cocks its head as she looks out the window at it, then it taps on the glass a few more times before watching her expectantly. Was this thing...asking to come in? Why does it want into her room? Owls aren't supposed to be purple, why is it purple? It taps at the window some more, a bit more-urgently than before.]
Okay, you know what, fine, fine, just, don't cause problems. [Partly figuring that it was somehow part of everything else from over the past couple weeks, but mostly so it would stop making noise at her window, she defies her better judgment and opens the window to let the thing in, and it very nearly immediately just perches itself on one corner of the bed as if it belongs there. Not sure—and also not really caring—if it could understand her, she closes the window and pulls the shade back down while saying:] Let me know when you want to leave, I guess.
[She then throws herself back and is out like a light no more than fifteen minutes later.
When she wakes back up partway into the evening, the owl is still sitting there in the same spot it had chosen, now asleep itself.]
3: on the network (ota, text; un: Astral)
[At around quarter past seven in the evening, the following is posted:]
Does anyone have any experience with weird owls and know how to take care of them and stuff? I think I just got adopted by one.
