WHO: Edward Kenway and you!
WHERE: Gemini!
WHEN: a day post-Morrigan fight, little bit before the fortress raid.
WHAT: Edward's back from his canon update!
WARNINGS: Assassin's Creed blanket warnings (allusions to murder and violence and conspiracies), but other than that nothing!
[Edward blinks at the video, having clearly just gotten up out of bed in the past few minutes or so. He looks somewhat older, and also, like someone doodled on his face a day ago, the lines now smudged as he yawns.]
Right, what's happened now? I've only just woken up after four years back home and there were a thousand texts and voicemails waiting for me. I would've thought it'd been four years here as well, judging from the volume alone, if not for the date.
[Pause.]
And who drew on my face?

[His heart is still recovering from it, but he has his duty to protect the Kaisou team just as he swore.]
He has told me of the Assassin's, he and Arno both. From what I gathered in what Shay said to Cu Chulainn and others, it makes sense that they would be similar in design.
... Also yes, the Jackdaw still stands.

[So upset!! But anyway.]
I know that you'll be all right, but. It broke my heart, too, when Hornigold turned against us, and it still does when I think of it. I respected his leadership as much as I'm sure you respect this man's legend. [Scratching behind his neck, and letting out a sigh.] What I'm saying is: if you want to talk about it more, my door's always open. I'll pour us a drink.
Oh, let me guess at what he said. It had something to do with, hm, keeping the peace? The dangers of free will? Safeguarding innocents by restricting their freedom? I've a list, I can go on.

... A weight in his chest... he had to bear it though... at least for right now. But he wouldn't spurn that offer.]
Perhaps when all is said and done, I will share his tale as I know it with you over those drinks. Thank you...
[He meant it. Truly and earnestly.]
That's precisely what he said. To his former mentor in this life and Ritsuka both. And with unshakable resolve in those words as well. He was willing to die for the ideals of keeping others chained.

[A tired sigh.]
They're all like that. I ought to know. The Assassins have been fighting against them for—oh, far, far longer than I've been alive. [A shrug.] I can't tell you much more than that, I'm afraid. I swore an oath not to compromise the Brotherhood, so some things I need to keep a secret.
But I can tell you that the Templars really, truly do believe that they're fighting for a new world, a safer one, with them in charge over the foolish, stupid masses who ought to be guided onto the correct path, protected from their own choices.

[But he always knew Edward was a loyal man to formally swear an oath. He'd like to know sometime what happened to his friend throughout these past four years for him.]
I see. This Order and theirs truly seem cut from the same cloth.
[Well meaning at the start with abhorrent methods to reach those means. The desire to protect, the intent to suppress.]

[It means something, though, that he trusts Diarmuid enough to outright say their name.]
They’re quite close to each other, aye. And bloody hypocritical at that—I’ve enjoyed Templar hospitality in the past. [From how he spits the word out, it’s fairly obvious it wasn’t actually very enjoyable at all.] And this was before I formally joined the Assassins. If you ask me, the Templars are a bunch of petty, small-minded lobcocks who can’t see past their own egos. Oh, some talk prettily enough, but that’s all it is: pretty talk, hiding their bloodstained hands.

[Same old Diarmuid, but then again it's only been a few days for him. Maybe it's a comfort to see regardless. If not for the thinly veiled fury, not that that made a difference given Edward has witnessed his most intense rage.]
We'll need your strength in the days to come. There already plans set to storm the Fortress of Meropide under the harbor where they're coming from.

[He has. This isn’t anything new, and not for the first time he’s glad he and Diarmuid are on the same side here.]
Well, of course I’m coming with. That was never in doubt. I would’ve come and helped before—it’s just that now I’ve a duty to fight for freedom as well.

[Still, the man did seem more comparatively reasonable. Diarmuid couldn't even blame him for thinking how he did. He considered a timeline where he would have all but been on Shay's side more than he should. Not in agreement, just on his side.]
The more hands, the better. [...] It truly is good to see you awake again. Given the dire situation, having a dear friend return to us sets my heart at ease.

Good. The less Templars there are the better. [He sighs.] I—know how I sound, but I’ve been fighting against them and their schemes for a long time, now.
[It gets pretty exhausting.]
I really hadn’t meant to sleep for so long. I’m sorry if I caused you any worry.
