July Event Log
Dominant Element: Water
Waning Element: Fire

Full Moon: July 20th - July 22nd

As July rolls in, the Spirit Vein's colors shifts to hues of blue as the water element takes dominance. And with it, comes the most miserable month of the summer. On sunny days, it'll be hot and extremely humid, with the air feeling like a swamp. However these hot days are interrupted with heavy storms that will let loose at least a couple times a week. Take care not to get caught in a downpour, and make sure you don't have anything outside that could be blown away by straight line winds.

Town Event

♪- Ballad of Many Waters

As the hot days roll by, Kaisou is in full swing of the lazy days of summer. Schools being out means there's kids regularly playing outside, though on the wetter days you're more likely to find them at the arcade or movie theater. In the shops throughout town, various gadgets and wares are being sold with the promise to help keep you cool, or let you have some fun in the sun. The kitsune in the park are now selling a charm that is guaranteed to keep you dry. Instead, about ten minutes after putting it on, it will summon a micro-burst that's just big enough to soak you completely. Truly not sure how you expected anything else.

Le Grand Bistrot in Brick Alley is providing baking "experiences" for city residents. If you've ever wanted to learn to bake a baguette or create those fiddly little patisseries, now's your chance! You will be given chef whites and stood around a long table to be taught by the best of the best. The best of the best appears to be a rat, but that's fine. Don't think about it too hard. You can even take your newly crafted treats home with you- though if they're a triumph or a disaster depends on how well you listen to the rat.

Meanwhile, Blue Fish Park will be holding a water fight. Bring your best water pistol or pile of water balloons and attack each other with gusto. The main participants seem to be kids and families, but maybe you really want to get back at the paperboy who keeps throwing your paper into your flowerbeds. Or perhaps you think it'll be a great date idea. Regardless, there are no prizes for this fight, only the sweet taste of victory if you manage to stay dry.

The residents of Undertown are more unsettled than they usually are. Quite a few of the usual stalls stand empty- and if you inquire about what's happening with that, the remaining residents will say there are mutterings on the grapevine that the Black Order are up to something and a few Undertown residents chose to get out of the city for a while. No one knows what's going on, but Undertown residents are certainly the Order's usual targets being of a more supernatural bent than most of the city, and some just did not want to risk being at ground zero in case something did happen. As a result, it might be a little trickier to get hold of potions and other Undertown wares this month than it usually is.

The Anime Convention

♪- Se mettre sur son trente-et-un

With July, comes the yearly Kaisou Anime Convention! During the weekends of July, Kai-con is going full swing at the convention center. Put on your best cosplay and browse the artist alley, the merchandise, and the food stalls that are full of some anime fan classics. There's also plenty of discussion panels to attend, whether it be meeting your favorite voice actor or discussing in-depth about your favorite shows with like-minded fans. And of course, there's a cosplay competition going on, with the winners winning free copies of limited editions sets to various anime series.

And at this year's convention, there's a new installment run by POKEGO! Now that POKEGO's reputation has become less volatile, Professor Oak and his grandson Gary felt it was time to resume some old public events the organization used to do to spread interest in POKEGO's work. At this installment, visitors will have a chance to meet some choice pokemon in-person while learning about wonderful facts about Pokemon. POKEGO members will be expected to run this installment in shifts throughout the convention along with their pokemon buddies who are now getting all the attention and pets they could want.

Night Raids

♪- Lullaby

At first, it seems like an ordinary Fourth of July. During the day, the weather is hot but sunny, allowing for the family barbecues and holiday events to take place without issue. Then as the sun sets and the sky darken, fireworks can be heard throughout the city. There's a large firework show done by the city itself near the beach, but that won't deter citizens from launching their own fireworks in their backyards throughout the night. Anyone who's been in the United States for this holiday before will know full well they should expect it to be a noisy night.

However, about 30 minutes before midnight, any seers that are still awake will be hit by a premonition that danger is imminent. Like all visions, it's vague, but you can tell it involves steel machinery and an emblem you've likely seen before with the Black Order. Best decipher it and spread the word as quick as you can, as there's no much time before it comes to pass.

As the clock strikes midnight, Black Order members with known addresses will have rapid gunfire go off in front of their homes. Outside, a squad of humanoid mechs have assembled and are now laying siege. They're swift and strong, with both guns and blades to fight with. Should the mech spot any of the Black Order members, they will zero in on them, as they've been programed to eliminate them specifically. And should you be a particularly unlucky person, the mechs won't be the only thing you face, as one of the Order's zealots has come along to make sure the job gets done.

Survive long enough to either destroy the mechs, or make your escape. It seems the Black Order is done with diplomacy.

New(?) Allies

♪- Lustrous Trick

The morning after the attack, July 5th, Zodiac will send out a message on the Libra app.

ALERT: SPIRIT REALM ANOMALY DETECTED IN BLUE FISH LAKE PARK
Element Classification: Water
Danger Level: High
Designation: Atlantis
Zodiac has detected a Spirit Gate within Blue Fish Lake. Early reports indicate that this may be the lost city of Atlantis and might be worth investigating. Please go to the Zodiac offices for more information.

Anyone who is paying attention will find that message a little weird, since not only is it just a straight copy of a message from last year- but anyone who goes near Blue Fish Lake Park will find that there's is absolutely no Spirit Gate around, and certainly not the lost city of Atlantis. Was that message sent by mistake? Looks like you really will have to go to the Zodiac office to see what's going on.

Going to the Zodiac offices will be a different experience than normal. There are armed guards posted outside the building, as well as magical barriers set up to ward off the premise from any unwanted intruders. They'll recognize the Libra app users and allow them inside, but once you're inside the office you'll be magically scanned to make sure no one is a shapeshifter posing to be a Libra App user. They're polite about it at least, promising it's only to be on the safe side after what happened the night before.

Once the security check is finished, the Zodiac employee at the desk will explain what's going on. Zodiac is aware of the attacks that happened the night before, and they're pretty upset about it. They swear up and down they had no prior knowledge the Black Order was going to do that in the city, and if they had they would've done everything they could to prevent it. Now? They were left with no choice but to assist the app users with stopping the Order in its warpath.

From there, they will explain what intelligence they actually know. The message given on the Libra app was just a ruse, since the Black Order has eyes on the Libra app ("attempts to remove them were wholly unsuccessful, believe me"). In truth, their readings had actually indicated a large cloaked anomaly in the harbor of Kaisou, one large enough to be a facility of some kind. This is also where the mechs came from. Not only that, but there's been reports of mechanical beings swimming in the water since yesterday, ones of the similar make of the mechs that attacked last night. This must be the place that the Black Order is launching their attack from. Not only that, but the Krusty Krab - Kaisou harbor's best (and only) restaurant- has complained about a strange hole with a barrier appearing in their back parking lot. If there's any good leads to investigate, it'd be there.

It's up to the Libra app users to investigate what this cloaked anomaly could be. But unlike previous times, they won't be going entirely alone. At this point, the office worker introduces the app users to six other zodiac employees: Ophelia, Aventurine, Ori, Cotton, Rika, and Susie. Perhaps some of you have spoken to them on the network already after Janet's little stunt, but this is the real reason Zodiac's seers singled them out. To help the app users investigate what's going on. While none of them are exactly fighters, they have been given devices that will activate shields, as well as neutralize magical powers for two minutes (though, they've been cautioned to use it carefully for once those couple minutes past, it takes another hour for it to recharge. Unfortunately, the stronger power neutralizers security usually has aren't waterproof). And well, if nothing else, they got spirit.

Best prepare yourselves now for a long, and wet journey.

Investigating the Habor

♪- Lamentation et Triomphe

Once you're ready to go, it's time to head to the Harbor. Once a pretty forgotten area of the city, it's become a lot more lively over the past few months. First with the opening of Krusty Crab, and then the mysterious statue appearing that made all the water breathable, and now with all the sea creatures that showed up last month, the harbor's become quite the place to visit. Oh, and suppose there was that massive octopus, Akkorokamui, that showed up last November and no one has taken care of... but don't worry about that! We got new troubles to worry about.

Just like the reports said, should you head into the water in the harbor, you will be attacked by a various underwater mechs. They're all over the harbor, and programed to attack anyone that is part of the Libra App. While they aren't particularly tough, many of the app users will find themselves out of their depths with fighting underwater. At least you won't have to worry about holding your breath on top of everything else.

Should you choose to investigate the large cloaked anomaly first, you'll want to head out to the center of the harbor. According to the accompany Zodiac members, while it's possible to trick magic sensors, it'd be extremely power consuming to keep up an illusion cloak of that size - so getting within the visual range should be enough to figure out just what they're dealing with. And sure enough, this hypothesis turns out be pretty on the mark, as once you swim close enough, you'll be able to see a large metal building sitting in the bottom of the harbor. Those from Teyvat will be able to identify it right away: it's none other than the famous Fortress of Meropide.

You can swim close to it, but be careful. If you are spotted by any of the spotlights along the fortress, alarms will sound and a whole squadron of underwater mechs will be sent to take you out. It also doesn't look like there's an obvious way to get inside the fortress, so there's not much point in sticking around. Perhaps it's time to check in on that complaint from the Krusty Crab.

When you reach the Krusty Krab, you'll be greeted by an anthropormophic crab. He introduces himself as the owner of this fine establishment and immediately tries to sell you some Krabby Pattys. You're free to eat some, but once you explain that you're here to follow up on the complaint he sent in, he'll be quite happy to have you -- especially when he hears you got no intention to charge him anything. He leads you out to the parking lot (why does an underwater restaurant need a- never mind), where there is in fact, a large hole that looks like it leads into some kind of underwater tunnel in the direction of the fortress. Perhaps this is your way into the fortress.

Unfortunately, things aren't going to be that easy. As you try to enter the tunnel, you'll discover it's blocked by a magical barrier. That barrier will need to be lowered. The Zodiac employees will use their devices to track the magic source and reveal that it's coming from something that's moving around the harbor. At this point, the crab will mention that he has seen an old fashion ship sailing around the harbor recently- one that's different from the usual old ship that sails around the harbor and bearing a flag with the Order's emblem.

Seems that's your next destination.

Battle in the Harbor

♪- Symphony of Boreal Wind

At it turns out, the crab's intel was right on the money. A large ship has been sailing around the harbor waters. While it looks like it's from a similar time period as the Jackdaw, the flag with the Black Order's emblem indicates that the ship really isn't a friendly vessel. No doubt, this ship is being manned by one of the Order's Zealots.

Getting to the ship will be no easy feat, as it sails faster than most of the app users can swim even without having to deal with all the underwater mechs. Anyone who attempts to fly to it will find themselves under heavy fire. You'll definitely have to work together to come up with a solution to reach the ship.

Once aboard, you'll find the ship is almost entirely manned by the same kinds of mechs that did that night raid. Battle your way through the mechs and give them a piece of their medicine. As for the flesh and blood Zealot, Shay Cormac, he can be found on the ship. You'll have to battle him if you want to retrieve the source of the barrier.

SHAY CORMAC CONFRONTATION

Once Shay is defeated, you'll need to search his body to find the power source. It's in the form of a key necklace around his neck. Once retrieved, the Zodiac employees will ask to hand it over to them. They promise they will lower the barrier, but they want to make sure it's done correctly so to avoid an incident like a booby-trap blowing up the Krusty Krab. Shouldn't take more than a few days, they insist.

In the meantime, it's time to prepare for what comes next. Renegade Black Order members should try to lay low as well for the next few days. If they aren't careful, they may risk another attack from mechs or the remaining zealots in the city. Same goes for anyone who's managed to especially get on the Black Order's bad side.

Heading into the Fortress

♪- Fortress of Meropide

A few days later, Zodiac will send another message, saying that they've managed to successfully lower the barrier - and without blowing up the Krusty Krab. They tell everyone to come to the Krusty Krab when they're ready to get started with this operation. This is your last chance to prepare yourself for the fights ahead, so you best be ready.

The trip down to the Krusty Krab is as full of dangerous mechs as before. When you arrive, the Zodiac employees are waiting for you and will lead you to that hole. Sure enough, with the barrier gone it's easier to tell that the hole leads into some water tunnel that'll lead to the fortress. As you swim in, a rapid current catches you and pulls you quickly through the tunnel. There's no way you can swim against such a rapid current, so you might as well try to relax and just enjoy the ride. If you let it, it almost feels like flying.

Finally, the water ride will end and you'll find yourself breaking surface. The current has lead you to an underground cavern full of glowing green ore. Abandoned machinery and carts give you the sense that this used to be some kind of mine, but hasn't been in use in a very long time. And if you were wondering if this was the right place- there's also plenty more of those mechs on patrol. Not only humanoid ones, but some canine shaped ones as well.

Attempt to sneak past the mechanical guards, or fight your way through. Eventually you'll reach a circular entrance, leading straight into the actual fortress itself.

The Prisoners

♪- Of Solitude Past and Present

As you walk into the fortress, the scenery changes to a place made of stone and metal, pressurized and sealed to keep the inside dry. It's clear that the place is old, which plenty of makeshift repairs around the place to keep it functioning. For Black Order members, this entire place is a complete surprise to you. Not once was this fortress mentioned to any of you, despite it appearing to be centuries old. Did the leaders and the zealots really keep this place a secret for all this time? And for what purpose?

Eventually you'll come into a room that looks like a dead end. In the center of the room, there is a massive gear puzzle that can be turned on and off. You're meant to set the gears in specific directions and then turn it on to cause the walls to move enough to open new passages, but there's no clear guide around telling you which arrangement will get you deeper into the fortress. All you can do is keep your frustration in check as you try each alignment one by one.

While many of the alignments will lead to empty rooms, one will open up to reveal a barely furnished room with people inside. Two younger-looking men look back out at you. Neither of them are dressed in the Order's uniforms, but rather garbs more closely resembling prison clothes. Nor do they appeared to be armed, so maybe you can approach them without a fight.

INTERACT WITH JOSHUA AND KUNIKAKI

From your interactions with the two, you learn that they are in fact prisoners in the Fortress of Meropide and have been held here quite a long time. As it turns out, this fortress is used by the Black Order to house folks who were unsuited to be Guardians, but for one reason or another couldn't be simply Sealed or killed. And the fact this fortress was kept secret from most Guardians.... well, it simply doesn't bode well, does it?

With the first two prisoners found, it's time to move on. While many of you were chatting up with the prisoners, the Zodiac employees and some more dutiful Libra app users were focused on figuring out how to work the gear puzzle mechanic. About the time the conversations wrap up, they are able to successfully navigate it so the right doorway opens up, leading them to an elevator that will take them to the next area of the fortress.

The Production Zone

♪- Saltatio Favillae

As you take the elevator up, the next place you'll find yourself is a large factory area. Mechs hang on the production lines as they get assembled by the heavy machinery in the area. A lot of work seems to be fully automated thanks to a combination of magic and technology. This is where all those machines that have been attacking you have been coming from.

You should do what you can to shut down the machines, rather it be finding a way to dispel the magic, turn off the machinery, or simply brute force it until it breaks. But before you can get started on that? A gun will fire off, as someone attempts to snipe you. Anyone who looks at the source of the gunfire will see Zealot Homura with a firearm, having positioned herself in a high up spot. Brace yourselves, you got a tough battle ahead.

HOMURA CONFRONTATION

Once Homura has been dealt with, all that's left to do is to disable the factory, and head to the next elevator.

Exploring the Fortress

♪- Welcome to the Industry

Once Homura has been defeated and the production line has been shut off, it's time to take the elevator up to the next part of the fortress. Here, you'll find yourself entering a large and open circular area. This is the main area of the fortress. There's two levels to this area, and all around the edge of the room are hallways that branch off to other locations within the Fortress. There's still plenty of machines patrolling the area, but there's no immediate zealot in sight. You might as well take some time to fully explore the area and check out what this place has to offer.

Quick travel through the fortress is tricky. While you are able to teleport around within the fortress itself, only from certain locations (like the Entrance Hall and the outside area you entered in from) allow people to teleport out of the fortress. The rest of the fortress areas have wards set up to prevent anyone from leaving the place magically. It'll take some time to undo the wards, so it may have to wait until later.

The Cafeteria

Part of the main center ring is a kitchen area where all the meals for the prison are prepared. It's currently unmanned, so you'll be able to look through the kitchen. The food that is prepared here are... entirely unappetizing. In fact, most of it looks like it's to be mostly MREs and other low-effort, long shelf-life items. Seems like their interest in culinary pursuits didn't go past the lowest minimum effort to keep their prisoners alive.

The Entrance Hall

A long winding hallway that serves as the actual entrance to the Fortress. It's so long that it eventually becomes a waterway with boats to help speed up transport. There's also huge windows in this area of the fortress, where you can easily see the Krusty Krab outside. You can only go so far this way before you find the entrance to be sealed off, so there's not much to see in this area.

The Medical Wing

On the second floor, there's a wing that branches off into a low effort medical ward. There's really not much in the way of medical supplies or comfort in this clinic. In fact rather than medical supplies, there seems to be more equipment that's meant to be used for medical testing. It seems the "medics" that were stationed here were more interested in studying than prisoners than actually caring for them.

The Cell Wards

There are numerous hallways that branch off into cellblocks. Many of these cells are currently empty, but there's a number that are full. However, unlike Joshua and Kunikaki, they've either turned fully into monsters or have gone mad from the memories, and were now incapable of communicating and will attack people if they get a chance. Even the man who looks like a scholar will attack you until one of you is dead should you open his cell.

There is one prisoner that is capable to conversing, but for many among you, she's probably the last person you want to see.

CONFRONTATION WITH LAPIS'S GRANDMOTHER

The Sleep Chamber

One of the prison ward hallways that have been converted to house many sleeping capsules. There's rows upon rows of these. The ones that are occupied have a name label on the front, and can be looked on to see a person that's been enchanted to be in a deep, peaceful sleep. This area is devoted to the people that the Order decided would just be best left to sleep forever. Considering one of the occupants is none other than the Krusnik leader from last year that could turn into goo, its hard to argue it'd be a good idea to wake these guys. Also, there's an entire row of capsules that share the name Xehanort. What's up with that?

The Central Room

In the center of the ring, stands a circular room with a large gate, and the three headed dog above it. It looks to be the center of the the entire fortress. Unfortunately as you approach it, you'll find once again that there's a barrier in front of the doorway. The magical source of the door leads you into one of the side halls. Notably, the side hall that is labeled the "fight ring" and has some suspicious red stains streaking out of the entrance of it.

No doubt that's where the final Zealot will be.

The Fighting Ring

♪- Wrath of Monoceros Caeli

As you enter the hall of the fighting ring, you'll have to take another elevator down to reach it. Inside the elevator, there's more of the trouble red stains. Even more troubling are the ones that seem to be in hand-print form. While a couple of the stains are newer, there's plenty that look like they've been there a long time.

As the elevator opens up, you'll walk into into a makeshift fighter's arena. There are containers full of armaments and weapons, meant to arm any prisoners that are expected to fight. For a long time, this area was used to serve as a place for the more violent zealots to "blow off steam" whenever there was a lull in their missions. You get a sinking feeling that many of the monstrous prisoners in the cell wards were kept awake for the sole reason to fulfill the blood lust of the Order's leashed monsters.

Speaking of... Cu stands in the center of the fighting ring, waiting for you. While the other Zealots tried to get the first hit on you, he'll wait for you to be ready. It's the battle he's after, at the end of the day.

CU CONFRONTATION

Once Cu has been defeated, you just need to loot his body to find a similar magical necklace that Shay had. With all the zealots defeated, the fortress is now in your hands. It's time to lower that last barrier, and find out just what the Order is hiding in that central office.

Central Office

♪- No Trespassing

Thanks to the practice the first barrier gave them, it only takes a few hours for the Zodiac employees to lower the central room's barrier, allowing everyone to have a bit of rest after all those long battles. Finally, the call will come that the door was open, allowing them entrance.

Inside, is a two story office. Anyone who visited the Fortress of Meropide in Fontaine would know this was where Wriothesley worked, but in this version all his personal touches have long been stripped away. Instead, the place has been remodeled to look more like a conference room, with seven chairs surrounding a table in the lower room. Surrounding the walls? Were shelves upon shelves of files. If you exam the files carefully, you'll realize all the files are about various Black Order Guardians. But instead of the typical reports missions usually get about their subordinates, these records contain thorough details theorizing how best to deal with Guardians... should they ever need to be gotten rid of. Every single one of them.

It seems the leaders of the Black Order, the Unyielding as they call themselves, truly do see the Guardians as expendable.

The files don't end simply with the Guardians. In fact, there's many files devoted to different mission scenarios. Based on the records, this place is the location where the Unyielding would like to meet and discuss the less savory missions. Any recordings that contain reasoning for their methods read as cold and ruthless. While you could argue many of the decisions they made really were for the greater good, there's something unsettling about how detached these files read.

The Sluice Gate

♪- Sinner's Finale

It'd be easy to think that you've seen all there's to see in this fortress. But thankfully, with the true Duke of Meropide among you, you know there's one last place to check. Beneath the central office, there's a hidden staircase, leading to the forbidden zone of the fortress.

While it was once a sluice gate to keep back the primordial sea in Teyvat, there's no primordial sea on Earth to worry about. However, the gauge on the floor is certainly reacting to something behind the gate. And anyone with strong magical sensing will sense there is something extremely powerful behind the gate. Not just powerful... but divine.

Should you decide to chance it and open the gate, you'll find a new room. This one contains a large white tree inside. There's also nine doorways lining the room that are currently closed, each one of them with Norse runes above the door. Anyone who is able to read Norse runes will know exactly each one is meant to be: Midgard, Alfheim, Asgard, Vanaheim, Niflheim, Muspelheim, Helheim, Svartalfheim, Jotunheim...

Seems the true secret of the fortress, and how it was able to get to Kaisou in the first place, was that it's tied to Yggdrassil itself. Which considering the Order's headquarters were said to be in Asgard... this was something to think about.

Aftermath

While it's tempting for many to try to use Yggdrassil right away, it'll be quickly point out by the Zodiac employees that they really need time to figure out how. Not to mention, they all could REALLY use the rest after the past few days. So for now, there's no choice but to wait and prepare for what will come next. Just to be on the safe side, the Zodiac employees will create barriers in that'll prevent anything from using Yggdrassil to get to Kaisou.

In the meantime, the Fortress is now back in the hands of Wriothesley. For those who don't want to keep using the hole in the Krusty Krab's parking lot, they can now access its entrance elevator, now sitting in the harbor not far from the Hydro Statue of Seven. This way will take you to the front entrances of the Fortress, and is a lot drier to traverse through. There is a lot of clean up that needs to be done to get the fortress in better shape. Maybe this would be a good time to focus on that. Or if you're sick of being underwater... there's always the anime convention to attend.

Either way, it's time to take a breather while you can.

I....think I have an idea, [she starts, breathing deep.] But....we're going to have to...uh...
