WHAT: a very special boy was assigned today as his birthday because what is being born when you're a conceptual being that comes and goes depending on various factors, especially whether or not you've irritated your sisters beyond their tolerance level? the mind boggles. but it comes with presents!

[ Veldora has some lovely golden eyes! hope you like them because they're the first ten seconds or so of the video as he mumbles to himself, face stuffed right against the camera as he futzes and fusses with making his cellphone sit how it's supposed to. it's really an exploration of Veldora's upper face for those first few moments--eyes, nose, messy bangs--and then he seems satisfied, taking a few steps back to reveal the room he's in.

there's a few bookshelves behind him and they are absolutely stuffed with manga from a variety of genres; Veldora turns to face the camera and raises a hand, clearly puffing himself up as he swings into Loud mode (though for anyone who's met the Volume before, it's strangely moderate compared to his usual levels of noise. almost like somebody's been scolding him for yelling his lungs out. say thank you to Rose, everyone, she's doing god's work in the trenches.) ]

Greetings, one and all, and I wish you a pleasant start to your new year! I am the Storm Dragon, Veldora Tempest [ and his expression seems to brighten, looking genuinely delighted ] and it is apparently my birthday! A fine skeleton brought me something wonderful to mark the occasion, and I simply couldn't be more pleased about it!

[ he stoops down to pick something up--astute viewers might've noticed the blue something hanging out by his knees, but now it's coming into view.

you know what a slime looks like. Veldora can barely get his arms around a massive, squishy skyblue pillow? thing? with a pair of line eyes and a cute set of pink blush stickers on the approximations of its cheeks, holding it up proudly so that the -_- faces the camera. for once it's his boobs resting on Rimuru's head as he cuddles the pillow to his stomach. ]

This is a wonderful simulacrum of my dearest friend in the world, and I am ecstatic to have a memento of him even across the bounds of time and space!

That aside, I am quite curious--what does one do upon one's birthday? I've never had a birthday before, though I have seen various recordings of certain celebratory rituals undergone to mark the passage of one's personal year--but now that I am confronted with the concept of having a birthday of my own, everything seems to have frittered away like birds startled from a window.

[ you can hear the dialup from the depths of his beautiful skull as he squishes his pillow, having scooched it up more and more as he was speaking so that his chin is resting atop the head. oh Rimuru, we're really in for it now. ]

So, ah, thank you in advance for your wisdom! And once again, happy New Year! [ and then he'll try to stuff the megamuru under one arm, poking at the phone with an intense look of concentration on his face until he figures out how to turn it off. ]

"Usually birthdays are a good chance to celebrate with friends! Maybe have a party, or just go out to a movie together or something. A lot of times people give presents to the person whose birthday it is, too, though not everyone does that."

And there's some, like her, who've gotten in the habit of keeping the exact date under wraps for reasons.

"Though if this is the first time you've celebrated your birthday, do whatever you think would be fun."

Oh, he looks thoughtful for a moment, hand to his chin as he contemplates.

"Well, most of my friends are in another world entirely, so I don't think they'd be able to attend a celebration." A pause, then, head tilting this way and that. "What is this 'movie' you speak of? Some sort of new world technology I've yet to consider?"

Some of us have been born a few times and it's hard to say what to count for the day. The millennia tick by so quickly, after all. "I already do whatever I believe would be fun, so the vast wealth of choices is nigh on overwhelming! What would you consider to be fun on a day of celebration, for reference?"

"Oh, movies are shows, like plays or performances, except recorded and then shown on a big screen for people to watch! Kind of like how you can watch stuff on your phone, except way bigger, and usually better quality, too."

Usually.

"For me though... I guess it depends? Probably spending time with my friends, mostly. Maybe have a nice meal together with a cake or something fancy like that."

Happy B-Day! That looks comfy as hell! NICE gift. He gave me a sweater last year that came from my past life- that guy knows how to get the good gifts!

ANYway, to answer your Q, you do whatever you want. It's your day so you get to call the shots. So what you should be asking yourself is "what do I wanna do today?" And then you just do it.

[ jiggling proud in the flesh! ]

It's so squishy and comfortable and I can almost fit most of my body upon it! The Birthday Skeleton is quite a cheerful fellow; I could've picked his proverbial brain for hours. It's always nice to get a skeleton with a good conversational sense.

[ he looks thoughtful. loading, loading... ] Hmn, that's a quaint concept, but I feel as if I already do whatever pleases me on a day to day basis, so I suppose I am 'spoiled for choice', as the phrase goes.

He kinda spooks me, I've got some... let's call it skeleton-related trauma form my past life. But once I stopped screaming at him he was kinda nice? I liked the gift anyway! And that really looks like you could just sink into it and just ignore the world for a lil' bit.

[He tilts his head, considering this.]

Love that for you, for realsies. Okay, is there anything you haven't ever done before? You can do that. Give yourself a new experience for your B-Day.

Oh, hey. Is that a Water Slime?
Those things are in pretty high abundance back home. They're mostly pests, so the fact that you consider one to be your 'dearest friend' makes me wonder. Maybe Slimes are intelligent in your world or something?

Anyway, Happy Birthday. I'm not really used to celebrating birthdays either, but. My roommates pretty much forced a small party on me with cake and a good dinner.

So maybe you can celebrate with a good meal?

Most slimes are simply just little blobs of hunger, searching for their next meal--but Rimuru was an Otherworlder incarnated with his sentience and intelligence. He's quite extraordinary, especially for a slime! It's amusing to see how quick people are to dismiss him until he shows his wit and spirit.

Thank you for the wishes! I'm not certain what sort of meal I could even consider special, since all of this world's food are new delights for me! After a lifetime of being sustained on meat and magic, the ability to be so close to the varied cooking techniques and food offerings that come from them...

'Little Blobs of Hunger' is pretty spot-on to what they're like in my world, too. They come in a variety of colors and elements, and they're all pretty mindless. Learning that someone could reincarnate as one... talk about terrible luck.

Especially if he's talented. He must get frustrated with trying to prove his worth with a body like that.

As for a special meal, well. I personally think the most special food is something decadent and sweet. Ever have cake?

[Ahem, right the traditions.] I think other than blowing out candles on a cake, most 'traditions' are...personal preference?

Growing up I'd get a present from my mom too, but I haven't really celebrated that much as an adult...not other than a fancy cupcake at least...

I too, got a birthday gift on the first. The only birthdays I can recall are those of the lives I inhabited. Not...just my own. It seems like the skeleton that bestows such things decided New Year was the day for it.
