WHO: Neuvillette and You (TM)
WHERE: The Libra App
WHEN: End of November
WHAT: Local judge seeks the advice of an impartial forum (Asking for a friend. Who is definitely not him). Please be gentle.
WARNINGS: Some swearing
I have been made aware that this forum format, Am I The ***hole, enables casual conversation efficiently.
I am writing this on behalf of someone I know (who is not related to myself) in the hopes of receiving varied opinions.
Forgive the vulgarity, but the judgements may be any of the following:
AITA for disagreeing with my former brother-in-law?
Edit: It were truly minor disagreements. Maximilian and I have fought before with injury on a magnitude far greater than the conflict I have had with his party during the intervention, and yet I hold no ill will towards him for that encounter.
I (M1500) have a brother Auguste (M3000) who was married to Maximilien (M3500). They separated amicably when I was out of the country, and as I understand, remained good friends.
Maximilien and my family have some history together. By various circumstance, he, along with other acquaintances, have come into possession of some important family heirlooms, the loss of which has caused us great distress. Auguste seems to have looked past this. I have not.
I have recently returned, and have learnt that Auguste had run into some trouble, and Maximilien had planned a sort of 'intervention' to help him. I was of the opinion that Maximilien no longer has any right to interfere with our personal affairs, and I did not trust the people involved in the intervention, either.
I admit, I may have been in the wrong here, because I was not around when Auguste fell into misfortune, and therefore I was not privy to the exact nature of his circumstance. Maximilien also truly cares about Auguste, but I cannot forget the loss of our heirlooms.
During the intervention, I had some minor disagreements with Maximilien and his party. It all worked out in the end, and Auguste has been saved. I am unfortunately still deemed to be in error, but I was merely concerned about my brother. AITA?

My friend. I meant. He is not good at talking.

The best course of action would be to talk to the parties involved, even if you aren't the best at it. The people in the network may not be the best to turn to for advice.

I admit, I am unused to dishonesty; it is not the way I wish to engage with things. But I am also - I am lacking severely in social finesse. I believe I will likely make things worse, if I spoke about this. To them.

Perhaps, but were I in their shoes, I'd rather have someone talk to me directly than use someone else's words. Even if you're like a bull in a china shop, at least you'd be authentic.

Why would a bull be in a china shop?

Much like you're doing with this post.
