Hello, everyone. My name is Erwin Smith, and I'm a professor at the university. My courses focus on myths and legends both local and not so local. In light of recent goings-on, I'd like an open conversation about what's considered myth and what's considered, for lack of a better term, a "gospel" truth. Let's talk about stories.

Politicians who actually care are a myth, in my opinion.

In my opinion I find it's not that politicians don't care, but that they care about the wrong things. A lot of political issues stem from simple facets: secrets and misinformation.

Many politicians are so set on keeping to a certain status quo that they're willing to do almost anything to maintain it.

Then as far as the rest of us can tell, they don't care. So, politicians who care are a myth.

Politicians who claim to care are a dime a dozen, who's to say there's not at least one out there?

A diamond in the rough so to speak.

Because if they genuinely care, they're hardly going to get elected! Not enough paid in bribery.

I will say I agree with you there. Truly electing an official based on merit alone is likely as close to impossible as something can get.

Unfortunately. Almost makes me glad I can't vote in America for now. Keeping tabs on one country's terrible politicians is more than enough.

You're right to feel that way. I try to keep abreast of world politics, but it's exhausting.

I'm amazed you have any faith in humanity left, trying to keep up with that.

Oh, there's always some good in humanity to find.

Of course there is! But not if you listen to the news there isn't.

Often the good news stories seem the most fantastical, it's true.

Or they're outpaced by all the terrible news that it's like "why even bother"?

[A sigh.]

This is why I blocked social media apps on my phone. Shame I can't seem to do that with this one!

This one does seem impossible to be rid of.

I tried. I even went to the place I bought this phone for help, and they didn't even see the app I was talking about. Same with the third party repair guy.

It's possible there's a reason we all have it, but I'm drawing a blank as to the hows and true whys of it.
