WHEN: All the month of June
WHAT: Yusuke offered to paint a mural on a blank wall at the cottage! Also offered to paint Wolfwood with his shirt open because apparently that makes Vash have a Crisis and Yusuke's gremlin gene took over.
WARNINGS: Wolfwood has a mouth like a sailor?

[Once the event at the Vogue is over and Yusuke's recovered from all of that chaos and the chaos of the spirit realm, he gathers up all of the paint he'll need for the mural, a ladder, a boyfriend, and makes his way over to Vash's cottage. It's going to take him a good while to get it all done (and someone is absolutely going to have to make sure this now-unhealthy-bluish-white-ish idiot does not burn in the fucking sun) but he wants to get the mural done as soon as possible.

See, he has a Plan. Vash loves red geraniums, so the mural will absolutely have a lot of those as a sort of border. The center will either be the cottage or a stylized scene of the farm. There is absolutely going to be a river.

Don't ask for any more details on the plan. He couldn't tell you.]

Bad news: it startles Yusuke and he flails, hitting Vash with the paintbrush and splattering him with paint.]

[ Aggah ahagsh, hacgkd--very very normal noises Vash uses as a splatter of red paint smears over him as he'd?? Apparently startled Yusuke so badly that he got punishment: paint sploot for it.

Ugh, yes. And you disturbed me, and I can only hope I can get back into the zone when whatever it is you needed has been taken care of.

[Give him a moment to be less cranky. He takes a breath.]

[ whoa, that was such a strong response! to put it the slightest, he was startled, a bit, by how upset Yusuke seemed to be.

But he takes it in stride. He's so used to being yelled at that it... truly doesn't even bother him. ]

Hey, no big! You were totally focused there, it was kind of amazing?
It just occured to me that you looked somewhat overheated.
I'm not sure you've had anything to eat since you arrived, either.
What you're working on is amazing? But.
Even a genius needs to take a break.

[At least his temper is fleeting.

Yusuke looks around, confused by what Vash means by "look overheated" before he reaches over and checks the temperature on his phone.]

Ah. Yes. I...probably am getting overheated. [He's not commenting on the fact he probably needs to eat, though, because this is Yusuke.] Hm. Do you have a fan or ice, anywhere?

[ yusuke's temper is like a small ocean wave vs. nico's constant seaspray, he'll take it in stride.

He makes a sort of face when Yusuke makes those requests, though. ]

We don't have refrigeration out here 'cause there's only a solar generator. So no ice, sorry.

[ give him a sec, he's gonna dash inside, then come back out with ... well, it is a fan! ]

I got it during that spring flower festival they had a few weeks back, and kept it 'cause I liked the design.

[Not quite what he had in mind but it'll help. Yusuke takes it with a smile.]

That'll work just fine. Have you looked into getting batteries or another generator to store power so you have extra?

Oh, no. Not really. We only recently got the solar generator from my buddy Varian. I... uh.
I'm from the 32nd century. All this tech is super primitive to me, so I'm not sure how it works...

Well, I'm from the twenty-first and I don't really understand it either, I just know that it apparently exists. I was hoping you might understand it better, since that's all the help I can give on the subject.

Hey, no worries about it. Technology is weird and complicated, even if you know some things--you won't always know everything.

Just like I'm sure there are different art styles you haven't explored before.

...I bet you'd learn in minutes flat, though.

Oh, no, I could learn about them, but it takes time to learn or develop an art style. I've had the same one more or less since I was fifteen or so.

I have the artistic ability of a guy with two left hands, so. Just being this good at one style is mind-blowing to me.

Yusuke starts to say that he's fine, he doesn't need to eat, but then his stomach rumbles.]

...yes, I should probably eat. I'm surprised Takame hasn't come out here yet.

I think, last I saw him, he was poking around the kitchen.
We don't have electricity, so maybe he's still trying to figure out temperatures...

I can go check on him, or I can go grab you some fruit to hold you over.
There's apples and pomegranates growing in the orchard, just past the cottage here.

[ give noodly plant man a few minutes to dash out into the orchard.
He's back within minutes with a small handbasket--a few big, fat red apples and two pomegranates seated in it.

He'll pick up a pomegranate and place it in his fake hand. Use his real hand to solidify his grip on it-- split it, between his fingers--offering the seeds out to the other. ]

I never had this kind of fruit before coming here.

They're a mess, but there's a...romanticism to them, thanks to the myths surrounding them.

I can't say I know anything about that. Do you know any?

There's the big one, of course, about how Hades fell in love at first sight with Persephone and...well. Then he kidnapped her down to the Underworld where he ruled, because that was something that shows up a lot in Greek myths. [He never did understand that.] Her mother decided to stop all harvests and growth until her daughter was returned to her, but she only gets her back half the year because Persephone had eaten half of a pomegranate and that bound her to the Underworld for six months out of the year.

[Speaking of, let him eat a little more.]

If she did it of her own free will or because she didn't know better or was tricked depends on which version you're reading. Personally, I don't think she would have been clueless enough to do it accidentally.

[ he listens, with rapt attention--what with how yusuke isn't using the names of gods, he seems interested, at least--he has always been a fan of fairy tales and stories, after all. he continues cutting the apples, putting a little line of rabbit-shaped apple slices in a line in his basket.

That's a cool tale. A little sad, but based on some pretty amazing things. Having an explanation for the four seasons being how they are...

I understand Persephone's mother being upset about her getting kidnapped, but... it's a pretty common trope in fairy tales, right? That eating the food of the fae can get you trapped? My mom used to read stories like that to me and Kni all the time.

Maybe she enjoyed Hades' company.

I think it's a common thing, yes. I took a few courses on myths and stories in college to better understand some of the subjects I was painting, and I remember asking why it was coming up so often. Who's Kni?

College... school, right? Learning lots of different things like that sounds pretty fun, honestly.

I see. And yes, it's higher education. I went to art college first and then went back to get my teaching degree.
