WHO: Hunter
WHERE: Network
WHEN: Early March
WHAT: It's raining!
WARNINGS: Morbid/gory weather patterns. I'm serious.
[Weather is something Hunter learned about in the Boiling Isles, but this is really the first time he's had the chance to experience it. It's raining out, the first real rain of the year, Hunter's very first rain, and you can bet he has headed outside to experience it.]
I was told the rain doesn't boil here like it does back home.
[Remembering how he learned about rain in the human realm is... complicated, but for those scant few minutes it was a good memory. It was nice learning about the differences between here and the Boiling Isles, and even better getting to hear the fondness Belos holds for this realm. Moments like that were a rarity with the man, and Hunter values each and every one of them.
... He really wishes Belos was here, so he could experience this with him, but he isn't and Hunter tries to not dwell on that.]
Experiencing weather instead of plagues is really something else! This is normal throughout the entire world, right? It must mean there aren't any boiling seas here, as well. Does anyone know what other kind of weather this city has?
What's the weather equivalent of a painbow again? A rainbow, I think? What about those?

Your rain boils??
[She is… a little concerned. Also hello again Hunter.]
no subject
Yep. You don't want to be caught out in a rainstorm without a shield spell of some kind.
no subject
Is this your first time experience non-boiling rain?
no subject
It is. Like I wrote before, I was told rain in the human realm didn't boil, but since this is my first time here I've never gotten to experience it before. I had no idea, even the books in the Emperor's library didn't mention anything about this kind of rain.

Rainbows are rather pretty to look at, when you can spot them. What's a painbow?
no subject
[But exciting?? He's just going to hang out in the rain all night and enjoy not getting horrifically burned, this is so novel.]
Painbows are caused by light refracting from water droplets in the air. They look like coloured arcs, from what I've read. You don't actually want to look at one though, they'll turn you inside out.
no subject
Oh, wow... That's kind of terrifying. Rainbows are kind of similar from the sounds of it, except for the turning people inside out part. Sometimes you can even see a double rainbow, which is a second arc outside the primary one--it's usually way fainter, but the colors are flipped from the primary one! It's really cool!
no subject
Do they actually do anything, or can you look at them without getting maimed or killed? [It's an important question, okay.] I haven't heard of a double rainbow before. I don't think double painbows exist, which is probably a good thing, all things considered.

...Your world sounds like it's actively trying to kill you.

[It wouldn't be the Isles if something wasn't trying to kill you!]
That's all? Nothing about gorenadoes? Shale hail? It's all just harmless storms, that's so weirdly peaceful.
no subject
[A pause, followed by a thoughtful expression.]
...Although shale hail sounds like something I could probably figure out how to do in a localized area.

No, the rain doesn't boil, nor do the seas. There are some areas in the world where some water is naturally heated, but those aren't anything you're going to find around here.
We also experience snow here (the white, cold, fluffy stuff that's been on the ground for the past bit). There's thunderstorms sometimes, where electricity gathers in the sky and shoots down to the earth, but so long as you stay inside it's unlikely to be of any real danger. You'll usually have advance warning of those. Same with high winds.
But even with the sometimes unpleasant stuff, there's also nice things, like sunshine and cool breezes. And yes, we have rainbows. With it getting into spring, I'm sure you'll start seeing those after rain showers soon.
no subject
I know what snow is. The Boiling Isles gets snow at the Knee, because of its high altitude. For the most part it isn't trying to maim or kill you. [Which is a rarity in the Boiling Isles!] Thunderstorms sound interesting. Lightning is the worst that happens with them?
More rain? Good, it would be a shame if it only happened occasionally.
no subject
Hm... well, I think it depends. They're dangerous in a variety of ways, really. They typically come with heavy rains, which can cause flooding or make travelling unsafe. High winds are also pretty common, which can take down trees and other tall structures and sometimes cause power outages. Thunder isn't really dangerous, it's just loud and it can be frightening. And lightning can strike anywhere, and if it does it can either electrocute or cause fires.
But we're pretty good at mitigating any damages, and it's typically safe on an individual level to just stay home. Storms can get worse than that, and in that case, law enforcement will typically have people evacuate the area. But, again, these are things you typically get advance warning for.
As far as rain goes— yeah, we should be getting a lot of it in the coming months! Once the snow finally lets up, it'll be spring, and the new plants will need the rainwater to grow.

[Like how Luz has taken up residence with the Owl Lady.]
None of that sounds difficult to deal with, especially if humans can handle it all without magic. This is all useful to know, though. I have a better idea of what to expect if people start talking about the weather getting bad.
[So thanks! Knowledge is power, after all.]
Right, I was told the trees are green here. So far the only green ones I've seen have needles instead of leaves, I'm assuming because it's too cold right now.

No, the rain doesn't boil back home. Nor do rainbows turn into...painbows? My sister can control the weather, but not even she can do that.
no subject
But no seriously his interest is piqued at someone who has weather magic.]
Are you sure she can't? Maybe she's just never tried making plagues from other realms before.
no subject
well now i'm not so sure!!!!
she never tried PLAGUES before, just weather? i'm pretty sure it would have come up by now though.
