Did you have a good trip out into town?
I told you, you could take Brad whenever you wanted, you didn't have to walk.
Especially not carrying that thing.

Do Not Look at the Dog Park👁️ (for Rren)

Cotton the Act☁️ (for Libra)

Red Hot Chili Peppers🌶️ (for Varian)

Got a Deal for You!💀 (for Wolfwood)

Understanding it is definitely something I appreciate, because, uh. Well.
If I'm honest, I really like this world. It's --I know I have to go home one day, probably. But I'd really like to spend some time here. [ a few hundred years might be nice.
he can help the people of this world way more than he can help the ones back home--but he knows he has to go back. he can't leave them out in the desert without a chance. ]
And see, SEE? You get it! You absolutely get it!! This is why we're buddies. Science follows a pattern and you can trace it all back to genetics and formulas and you can figure it out. With magic it's like.
Yeah, it's just that way. Because it is. Don't question it. It drives me crazy.
[ he's going to flip a berry between thumb and forefinger. ]
Don't be sorry. Happiest part of my life was growing up in that spaceship where I was born. It was a huge starfleet with hundreds of thousands of sleeping humans in it, hurtling across space to look for a new home.
The only person awake on my ship was my ... well, I guess I'd call her mom, even if we're not related. Kind of like how you found your own family here, I guess? She found us.
She raised me and my twin brother like human children, even if we really weren't.
[ he chuckles. ]
She'd love this world and everyone in it. Madness, too.

[There's a pause here because he used to be desperate to go back to Corona. But since the incident with the peach, it's felt less and less like home to him. The drive to get back isn't there, which is a good thing because he's pretty certain at this point he's tied to this city and the Spirit Vein. All signs point to that. ]
I can understand that. I don't know how that's gonna happen yet, just that uh...trying to make it happen for ourselves definitely isn't the way to go.
[Because of the aforementioned dinosaurs.]
RIGHT! [Vash, he loves you so much, oh my god, you GET it.] And when you act like there's something wrong with us just being expected to accept magic for what it is without questioning it, people think you're being dumb! It's not being dumb. You're supposed to question everything with science!
[Awww, that's actually really nice!!!]
That's good! I'm glad you had a family. That really makes... just- just about anything easier to deal with. It's good she found you and honestly it might still happen? All kinds of people can be brought into this world.

If there's ever a chance to fix things, I at least, wouldn't... try to stop it. I'm selfish in my wish to stay here over my own home and I know that. But I'd like to stick around a while longer.
Even if the existence of magic will probably irritate me to no end until I just stop thinking about it. [ he grins at the other. this guy's a little weirdo, but yeah--he's a good little weirdo. if he can stay here for a few dozen years, he'd be happy to see what kind of a aid he's going to be to the world. people who thought like him weren't a dime a dozen. ]
Glad to meet someone who agrees, finally. Usually people get all up in arms and just tell me that magic's gonna be magic. I'm sure there's a science behind it too, it just hasn't been properly stared at yet.
[ and vash, while a believer in magic thanks to his upbringing in aforementioned spaceship with 32nd century technology--he's a bit too scatterbrained to be the scientist the world needs. sorry, varian.
he'll pause, though, as varian mentions, that. his heart skips a little. ]
...haheh. Ha.
I'm not... sure what I'd do if Rem were to show up here.
It's been decades.

[That's what HE tried to do originally, after all. Even if he was trying to make that an option for everyone. Selfish, ultimately. He's trying to see the bigger picture, now. ]
Hah, yeah. That's what it's like for me here and back in Corona. Just...waaaayy too much magic with zero explanation to it. And I definitely think there's a science to it - everything can be explained properly eventually, you just need to give it the time and research to really work it out!
[This little weirdo is fully prepared to try and assign logic to magic despite living in two worlds where magic has exactly zero logic. He's plucky and determined, if nothing else!]
Oh wow, that's... a long time. I had people from Corona show up a while ago. They uh...vanished again, though. [And he's not sure if they got BACK to Corona or not which is. A concern.] But it for sure hadn't been that long since I'd last seen them.

There's a whole lot less feathers now, just a grouping of them mostly bunched up at his back, not quite shaped enough to be wings--but rather more like an unkempt group of ferns. ]
You come from a world with a lot of magic in it, too, then? That must have been frustrating for you to deal with, science-brained as you are. [ he can't help but to laugh, sorry, varian. he can almost imagine the kid trying to suss out some sort of spell that made no logical sense... god that's not even funny. ]
Having them disappear again is probably the most uncomfortable idea, for me. I don't even like it when acquaintances I've met here suddenly go missing off the app. [ he hasn't asked anyone about that yet, sorry varian. ] I just hope they get home safe, or... wherever it is they're going.
I've been worried about a few people for a while.
no subject
[He grins, giving Vash a little thumbs-up for his find, nothing the feathers had gone down- interesting.]
Oh yeah, lots! One of my best friends had magic hair. Like... seventy foot of it. It was unbreakable and everything. It's uh...gone now, but she had it a while. And yeah it was SO frustrating. Every time I thought I'd figured something out, some new magical thing would happen and blow everything out of the water again.
[It was so frustrating, all the time. He frowns softly, nodding.]
...Yeah, me too. They- they deserve to go back to Corona. It's where they belong. [There are people he hasn't seen for well over a year at this point, he gets it.] I...uh, I guess there's always gonna be people like that we miss. Best we can do is remember them and live the lives we've got here. However they turn out.
no subject
S....seventy feet. of hair.
Seventy. [ he has to repeat it. And stare. because GOOD FUCKING LORD, that's too? much hair? he'd had long hair when he was a kid and getting it cut off was a relief--and it was barely more than three feet long, then!! ]
I can't imagine how she functions with that much weight following her around, let alone living with it. It must be really magical.
[ he's now imagining a girl with hair that floats, because otherwise how would it work. A hand moves to push his glasses up on his nose. ]
But you're right, I think. That's a real positive way of looking at things. [ and that's what he's into, honestly. ]
If Corona is a good world, then going home is probably a good thing.
no subject
Seventy. She could use it to climb and grab things and everything, I think she was more limber WITH it than without. She was uh...imbued with the power of a mystical element. Which is how that happened. [He shrugs.] It's gone now, though. There was a whole thing with a demon and she lost it.
[Just. Casually. "A whole thing with a demon." Like it's nothing. ]
Hah, yeah, I'm trying to work on having some more...positivity, so glad that's uh- working. [Thanks, therapy!!!] And yeah. I think that's the best for them.
[Not really for HIM anymore, though.]
no subject
[ like, it's partly concerning that Varian would bring up demons, yes?? but like, since he's gotten here, there's been SO MUCH trouble with demons--and he's MET a few demons, like--he's starting to wonder if they're a species just as prominent as humans. ]
I feel like a lot of the trouble I've seen lately has demons to blame... what a troublesome bunch, huh? [ he laughs a little nervously, giving his head a shake. ]
You seem plenty positive to me. [ look the therapy is working, see ] But then again, I have been called someone who wears rose-coloured glasses, before.
...
They're orange. Not rose.
And they're orange for a reason.
no subject
[She got obliterated, it's fine, it's fine. ]
Hah, thanks. I'm uh...working on it. I've been going to therapy and that's helped a lot. I had to deal with a lot of...messy head stuff. Still do. Work in progress, y'know!
[He's trying his BEST. He snorts at Vash.]
It's an expression. "Rose-tinted glasses" means you see things like they're rosy so...struggling to see the bad stuff.
[Oh but now he's curious!!]
Why're they orange?
no subject
Nope, instead he's gonna hop down between some trees that lead into a little clearing--one that has a bunch more berry bushes hiding along the edges of it. Hm. Are those berries, or... some sort of wild vegetable? He's still not used to all this plant life, man. ]
Therapy, huh. Well, if that's the case, you're a great work in progress. We might not be super close yet, but. You're definitely more well-adjusted than a lotta people I know back home. [ a pause. ] Then again, you DID jump onto the opportunity to shoot at me without hesitation.
[ there's a teasing little tone to his voice as he grins, reaching up to pluck those fancy glasses from his face. ]
I like to see most things as rosy, but...
The orange tint actually helps block out blue light. It reduces blurriness in hazy or foggy conditions, too. Better depth perception, so it helps me aim better.
[ he makes a pistol shape with his finger. Pow. ]
no subject
Varian starts peering at the berries, nodding.]
Those'll work. And yeah! It's been a big help I had a lot of uh... [he shifts, a little uneasy] well. I had a lot of bad stuff in my past. Did a lot of bad stuff. I don't feel that well-adjusted yet, but I guess I'm doing better at it than I used to. [He laughs at that, rubbing the back of his neck.] I'm a scientist, I'm not about to turn down a scientific experiment.
[Varian peers to get a closer look at the glasses- probably on his tip-toes a bit, he's so short and Vash is SO TALL.]
Ohhhhhhhhhhhhh, okay that makes a lot of sense. Especially in like...a desert, right?
no subject
....Hm. [ he does listen to varian's confession that he's been bad in his life. And while he isn't about to just dismiss it--mistakes are how one grows, how one learns--he's going to nod his head, and turn to smile at him a little. Pulling his glasses off his nose to settle them up on Varian's snoot. ]
We can all start over again, from zero. Countless people could get hurt, you can betray countless more. So long as you're willing to stop; not let anyone else get hurt; learn to trust and be trusted by others...
You gotta' seize happiness in order to enjoy being in the world. Being 'bad' shouldn't be the 'end' for you. Everyone has a ticket to their own future, right?
[ he smirks a little at varian. Tapping his nose. ]
Regardless if you're in a pretty world like Earth.
Or from a desert where you don't get to pick berries from pretty trees.
no subject
I think these ones would be pretty strong. They smell strong anyway.
[He's helping! :D He makes a surprised noise as Vash just pops those glasses on his snoot, going a little cross-eyed to look down at them.]
Yeah. That's- that's how I've been trying to see it. I know I can't undo what I did, and I don't want to. That- that wouldn't be fair to the people I hurt. But I can make up for it and...and not let it completely eat me alive. I'm working on uh... letting myself be happy.
[And not hating himself every damn second of the day.]
That's a pretty nice way to look at it.
no subject
[ he flashes varian a grin, as he starts grabbing up a few of the ones Varian points to. letting his glasses stay on Varian's nose for now, so he can see what a difference they actually do make to one's sight, without even being prescription-grade. ]
I'm glad you think so. Most people get on my case about me being too much of an optimist when it comes to this sort of thing. But it's true!!
[ and maybe, deep down, he wants it to be true, because that means one day, he can forgive himself for the thousands he's killed, for the trouble he's caused. He's gonna shoot varian a grin. ]
So.
Once we're done berry grabbing, how about we grab some donuts before delivery.
My treat?
no subject
[They are pretty cool glasses and while he knows his own eyesight is a little...weirder here thanks to the wolf thing (night vision, and all that) but it's definitely making a difference. He hums softly as he helps pick the fruit. ]
There are pretty neat glasses! I can tell the difference!
[And awww.]
A little optimism can be a big help- especially in a place like this. We all need someone to be the light in the darkness for us- it's the only way any of us are gonna get out of it after all.
[His tail gives an excited little wag.]
Sure! I wouldn't say no to some doughnuts! They're great!
