Honestly, take it from me. While I'm ALL for the kind of nonsense that involves people in need? I can tell you first hand, that there's no such thing as a 'lucky' anything. Unless there's actually a magic spell on that ball that gives them luck, they'd do just as well with ANY of the other balls they have.

[ listen he is an EXPERT when it comes to matters involving LUCK!!! he gives a little sigh, but then turns his head to give his enby buddy a bright smile anyway. ] But hey. You know, I've definitely gone on worse missions and had worse outcomes. Remind me to tell you how I got the bunnies on the farm one day.

[ but that's neither here nor there. ]

So, what's a dog park, anyway. Neither of us are dogs, so... getting in might be a bit troublesome. Might have to be a stealth mission?

Cotton the Act☁️ (for Libra)

You brought those knitting needles those dumb plants spat out at me a week or so ago, right? Those should help out a little, their supplies are a little thin, here...
[ vash is sitting at the table they've been shown by the helpers they signed up to volunteer with, and he's going through piles of very rough looking clothing, torn and with holes in various places...

he's sewn his own clothing together dozens of times and he's not bad at this kind of work! But. The thing was, he didn't think about it until he arrived here... but.

Sewing and knitting was sort of a two-handed task, wasn't it?

He's looking at Libra weakly. ]

Sorry that it looks like you're gonna' be doing the lion's share of the work here. I can work on matching up torn parts and--

[ oh god that's a buneary runnin right across the table, scattering balls of yarn as he goes. Vash is gonna get up and try to grab the thing. ]

Red Hot Chili Peppers🌶️ (for Varian)

[ probably after the meeting with the kid at his farm, the whole fiasco with showing the guy his neat bullet-dodging power as well as testing out a new arm prototype the guy has been making for him--it was easy, as far as vash was concerned, to want to spend some more time with the guy. that's what you do when you're trying to make a friend, right? do things, spend time with them? he remembered the last time he went to Kanto, with Waver, and that'd been a fun trip that had ended with him getting to know the professor a bit better, so.

It was easy enough to suggest to Varian--a man who boasted great skill with gadjets and alchemy--that a trip to the Kanto region might be fun. Both for profit, and to learn more things about the little round friends that came from the stable gate.

And that's how Vash finds himself walking with the shorter man--a tiny little apple-shaped worm sitting carry in his wide coat-collar as they make their way inside. ]

Have you been here before? I mean, you've been in the city longer than I have, right?

Last time I was here it was mostly for a vacation so I didn't spend a lot of time lookin' at the flora or anything like that.
[ are hot peppers in kanto gonna look different than they do back on earth.... ]

Got a Deal for You!💀 (for Wolfwood)

[ he built a hammock between two of the biggest apple trees in the small orchard near the cottage. That's where he's currently sitting, with Applin sitting atop his head, staring at his phone with a measure of discomfort on his face.

It's been about two, three nights since the impromptu campfire party with Dante, and while the memory itself was a fantastically good one--he's having a bit of a worry about the certain part of himself that returned that night.
So, now's a good time to go looking for a distraction. He's brought up the Libra mission board that Yuu had shown him, when he'd first arrived, looking. Looking for... Something fun, something simple to get his mind off it--to pretend he isn't worried about the possibility that exists that he may just one day grow that horrifying cannon--

He shakes his head as he hears the approach of footsteps, trying to quickly erase the growing look of worry off his face as he turns his head to see who it is. Being here for two months, almost three now--he's used to getting random visitors and is always excited to see them. His eyes fall upon his oldest friend, and he places his phone down on his knee--raising his one hand to wave at Wolfwood as he approaches. ]

Did you have a good trip out into town?
I told you, you could take Brad whenever you wanted, you didn't have to walk.

Especially not carrying that thing.

Exactly! I mean.. I... kind of am human, not just this second obviously, but. Yeah, still hard enough.

And I do not believe I was in my past life? I really do not. And I know most of the friends I've remembered were not.

[An amused note made it into their voice as their ears flicked.]

I actually have had a couple memories of a cat person. I think he was my boss? My mentor? It is somewhat unclear.

[They might not have shared this even with the compulsion to be honest, but given that they knew he can't have liked basically admitting to not being human. Well, may as well.]

[ ...it does get his attention when Rren says they're 'kind' of human. There's something there, and he can feel the question on the tip of his tongue. Do they mean they're just. Cat? or...
Ah. Past life stuff. That makes sense? He's heard of this, before. ]

You did always say you wanted to be friends with an alien, right?

[ the joke is light-hearted as he laughs, reaching up with his fingers to idly scritch behind Rren's ears, not even thinking about it in the moment as he crosses the road. ]

These memories you get of your past life.
I hear about people having them, but given I got here from different circumstances, I'm... curious about them.
Are they vivid, or is it sort of like dreaming? Cloudy?

[Yeah, okay. They were just going to lean into the scratching as they laughed at the question. And then came the follow up.]

Huh. So there haven't been too many and even so it's been a mix. Some have been clear and sometimes it isn't even solid memories so much as feelings? I think that is part of the trouble I had with The Companions back in the Walled City? They felt...Really Familiar.

[ it's fine, there's nothing wrong with leaning into the attention--vash is doing it idly without thinking about it, mostly. ]

I suppose that makes sense.
I have a few friends who experience this, and they always seem to... pause, almost, like they're distracted when it happens.
I was just wondering what it was like, I guess.

If it was uncomfortable, or jarring...
I can't imagine how it feels, living who you currently are.
But remembering that you were someone else, too.

Hmm. It can certainly be a bit jarring because you don't know what will bring one up. But well, I don't mind the idea of having been someone else before too much. Our experiences are different enough.

But... getting these memories and knowing the people in them are all gone and I barely remember them? That part hurts when I let myself think about it.

[ hes quiet when Rren admits that part. He... understands that. He can't imagine what it's like, remembering someone from a life previous to your current--getting memories of all these people you loved or spent all your tomorrows with

only to have to settle with the idea that
they only existed in your memory.

It's probably painful to think about.

Outliving all of my friends is something I've had to live with my whole life.

I have a friend who lost his brother.
But found him in this world, again.

[Rren made a small sound, thinking of a great deal they couldn't manage to say because none of it was actually true. That they were fine, that maybe they would. That they didn't care that much.]

This honest business is not all it's chalked up to be. I just think... I guess we all lose people, whatever the circumstances. And nothing is going to make it not hurt. Not believing they're at peace or whatever. And not the idea of meeting someone who isn't quite them.

So what can we do but just keep going and enjoy the friendships we have now?

[Yeah, okay, deep conversations were awkward.]

It sucks, if I'm gonna have to be forced to be honest. Which I am.

It's gonna be a struggle to hide this from people. Maybe I should just go nap for a day when I get home....

[ he makes a wistful sound, but he nods. ]

I think you're right.
Losing people is... hard. I know it well.
I never really got to make many friends back home, thanks to having to run around all the time. Wolfwood is the first in decades.

Holding onto the people we have today is... the most important thing.

...Kaisou is strange.
But I want to stay here. Even if it's selfish.

Sometimes it's healthy to be selfish. I think.

And I hope you get to stay here. You deserve to make more than one friend in decades.

Yeah? I'm not sure. I've never really been a selfish person.

Two in one century is pretty lucky, despite my usual relationship with the goddess of luck.

I mean. Pretty sure there's others you're closer with than me. Like your boss and roommate and some others.

Also I mean... 2 is a start. And I'm really glad Not A Priest ended up here too. Even if the one you knew before was a priest?" Gotta love having different realities in play here.

[Look, it hadn't taken much of talking with either to realize how much the benefitted from being here, or at least, somewhere other than the world they'd come from.]

Heh. Well, Zules was the first person I met here, so he's pretty important to me. But don't knock yourself down too hard. Given we're forced to be honest, you can believe me when I say you're one of my favorite people to spend time with.

[ and thats a fact. He has a bit of a crooked smile on his face. ]

Yeah. I'm glad Wolfwood is here, too. Back home is... pretty terrible, so I'm glad he gets to relax here. Even if he's not the one I 'know,' he's still Wolfwood. He acts the same, a lot of our memories match up. He has the same sort of things weighing him down as 'Mine' did. So. I've sort of stopped seeing them as separate people.

Wolfwood is Wolfwood.

[ a pause. ]

Hey, do you trust me?

[They weren't sure why that caught them off guard so much, but it did. They mostly had figured he was just set on being nice to everyone.]

Huh. That makes sense. I'm glad then.

[Don't mind the processing error moment here, Rren just needs a moment to recover from whiplash]

Of course I do. Why?

[ yeah, all things considered, it was a bit of a bomb to drop on rren, wasn't it? but he was honest about it, as he could be. As he walks up the road they're currently on, he takes a moment to look around, before moving to duck in behind the closest building, in hope of breaking sight with anyone watching. ]

Because, to be honest, I kind'a don't wanna get on the bus to get you home.

[ hes still feeling shaken up over the whole blackout thing, so...
as he walks, those odd, long feathers start to shift and move out of his clothing again--mostly centered around his back as a pair of very odd, plantlike angel wings spread out against his back.

Much like in the dog park, he starts to get a running start. ]

Trust me not to drop you.

[ hey rren, how do you feel about flying

because those wings are spreading out, and flapping hard--and within moments, the pair are airborne. ]

[!!!!!!

Those wings again. And... Flight.

They are flying! Look. Don't mind the cat just trying to get a good view (without getting themself dropped)]

This is so damn cool What the hell Mr The Stampede?

[ it's not a magical sort of flight, it takes some real effort with those wings to get up and airborne--but. Within moments, he does manage to get clear of the buildings, up above everything with his arm safely locked around Rren so that they don't fall down into the city below.

A few extra feathers once again curling around from his arm and from inside his jacket, cradling the cat in a way that they can see the view, without the danger of plummetting down below.

Vash chuckles. ]

This world kept a lockdown on some special things I usually keep secret. I couldn't use these for months, but they showed up one night out of nowhere.

I can't... really fly back home, because I'll scare everyone.
But.

People fly around all the time, here, so...

Our little secret?

[Rren takes a moment to answer, not because they are reluctant, but because they are so busy watching, and focusing on the way he had to work to fly.]

Ha! True. The people who might be scared here would probably just see a large bird.

Like, oh, a white peacock maybe?

[Don't mind their amusement at that.]

And yeah. Our secret.

[ at least when he's up--high in the air, where the wind is strong enough to let him drift with those plantlike wings open and outstretched, there's a lot less struggle. He's more focused on figuring out what direction Rren's house is from up here--it's really different when you see everything from above. He has a stupid grin on his face. ]

Hehehh.

You know, I think it was because I got these things back. The reason I turned into a dumb bird when I went into that walled city.
It'd make sense, right?

[And Rren is no help with directions. They're too busy taking in the sights to actually, y'know, pay attention to where they need to go.]

Hah. Probably!

I swear this magic stuff has a mind of its own.

[ who needs directions? fuck it we ball. the city looks beautiful from overhead, anyway--he can see the parks and the huge lake down below, as well as the shopping district in the distance... ]

I'd believe it.
Given how many curses I've gotten to date.
Either its got a mind of its own or it just wanders around aimlessly and hits the biggest, easiest-to-see targets...

At least the sky looks nice.

Heh.. And then some of us just luck into it regardless of whether or not we are any kind of target.

But yeah. Uh I wouldn't mind flying again. This view really is fantastic.

Heh. 'Luck'. I don't have any of that. But I suppose I can handle it, if I'm allowed to live in a world like this for a while.

Because you're right. It really is beautiful, isn't it.
This world is so full of life.

[ there's a ... somber tone to his voice as those wings flap again, taking them just a little higher, drifting lazily in the wind now that he's caught a thermal underneath him. ]

I didn't say a word about good luck.

[That amused tone was back.]

It really is. I mean you've gotten... how many pets by this point?

Heheh. I guess you're right, you didn't.

[ he's grinnin' ]

Eeeh... well.

There's Denji and Zazie, the bunnies. Brad, the thomas. Luida, the shoebill, Fritter, the... apple worm, and Rabbit. Rabbit is also a bunny of some kind, but he's like. Bright yellow.

Oh, and there's also Libra's ...fox dude. What was his name...

Mmmm. So basically. A lot. And probably more all the time if I were to guess.

[Look. It didn't take much to pick up that tendency of Mr. The Stampede's]

I mean, it's just nice you are where something like that is possible, I guess?
