There is a weapon shop within the city. Though I'm unsure if they carry axes, it would be best to begin there.

I will have to take a look. Battle axes seemed to be a lesser used weapon at home as well.

Weird shit happens constantly, every single one is almost stranger than the last, and the best thing to do is roll with the punches and try to cope with the situations as they come rather than questioning it.

You're likely to see it for yourself before long, incidents seem to crop up every month nearly like clockwork. As to specifics, one spirit gate led to a supernatural race between animals where we were effectively enlisted to act as guides. Another was one beyond which was a realm overtaken by a massive killer tree and its nightmarish little demon spawns.

It ranges from inconvenient to horrendous, in my own experience. Zodiac usually sends out a message to the tune of 'wild shit is happening at this spirit gate in this location sure would be nice if someone did something about that' and well, it isn't as though there's any other real option for those willing or able.

A regular occurrence then... and such strange things happening.

'Causing', unlikely. 'Being largely incompetent and unhelpful', observably so. Zodiac is about as shady as shady authority figures go, and I don't have a clear read on their motivations or reasoning.
