February Event Log

February Event
Dominant Element: Fire
Waning Element: Wind
Full Moon: Feb 4th - Feb 6th
※
The Spirit Vein in the sky shifts from blues to hues of red as February begins, indicating an increase of fire element energy. With this fire, comes warmer weather. While we're still in the grips of winter, the days are much warmer than during January. There's many clear and sunny days, providing plenty of chances to play in the snow before it leaves next month.

The season of romance is in full swing. Starting in the beginning of February, stores are fully decked out with red, pink and white decorations for Valentine's Day. Just about every place has some special sale going on for the day, whether it candy shops selling candy hearts or floral shops being filled with roses or roofing companies desperately trying to convince you that new roof tiles are a romantic gift, really! Restaurants are pulling out all stops to get ready for the romantic holiday, with specials and discounts for any romantic couples - or really, any pair of people willing to pretend to be dating for a discount.
It's not just the normal shops that have gotten into the holiday spirit. In Undertown, vendors are selling romantic magical products of varying effectiveness. Aphrodisiacs to spice up the bedroom, courage potions to give you that boost to confess your feelings (watch out, the cheaper ones are just alcohol with food coloring), fortunes readings about your romantic prospects - stuff like that. Some of these products are legitimate, but there's many scams so watch out! That said, if you're looking for a love potion, you'll be disappointed, as those are generally seen as taboo and the few shady vendors that do sell the potions will be scams.

As Valentines Day approaches, many people on the app may find themselves receiving a different kind of mail than usual. A red or pink envelope will appear in their mailbox, with their name handwritten on the front with no return address. Inside the envelope will be one of those cheap valentine cards that kids will often be obligated to give to one another in school and some really cheap valentine's day candy. On the card itself? Will be the written confessions from another person on the app. These confessions will reveal their true feelings for the character, whether it be an earnest love confession or show of friendship, or something much more negative. It even seems to be written in the handwriting of the person who wrote it.
However, should one choose to confront the "sender" of the valentine, they will insist they have no memory of ever writing such a card. And for truly unlucky people, the confession won't even be accurate - or it'd be signed under the wrong name. It seems perhaps Cupid yet again tried his hand at another matchmaking scheme. Will it actually work to kindle some love, or will it just make everything an awkward mess? Who can say!
(Please not that the sent valentine cards are completely opt-in. Do not have your character receive a valentine from someone unless it's been explicitly planned out with the other involved players.)

Beginning the second week of February, people will begin to notice the disappearance of other users on the app. At first maybe it's easy to assume some of then went into hiding after the Valentine's cards, but it quickly becomes too many people to be easily dismissed. Then a few days later on February 6th, Zodiac will send out another message.
ALERT: SHIFTING GATE LOCATED IN MIDTOWN.
Element Classification: Fire
Danger Level: Very High
Designation: The Constant
A new spirit gate has been detected in Midtown. We believe this may be connected to the recent disappearances. We've been unable to gather any data about this realm as our scouting agents have failed to return. If you choose to investigate, please use extreme caution.
If you head to the Zodiac offices, the atmosphere is on the tense side. It's never a good sign when people start disappearing. The information they have about this world is very limited. They can tell it's a realm called the Constant. It's a realm that has a habit of appearing sporadically around the world and gets tied with disappearances. Folks who get dragged into that realm end up trapped for a period of time, and very few actually manage to make it out alive. The stories of survivors that do manage aren't...great. Half of the accounts come from people who have lost their minds, and those who remained sane report that it's a hostile land full of many things that'll kill you....over and over again.
Once you're finished with the Zodiac offices, it's time to gear up and head to Midtown. The portal itself can be found in a long abandoned house, one that's long been rumored by neighborhood kids to be haunted ever since an accident happened. Within the house, the portal can be found standing in the middle of a room that'd been converted to a workshop. If you examine the dusty remains of the workshop, you can gather that a man named Wilson once lived here. It seemed like he was in the process of building his own portal when something went wrong. To emphasize this, there's scorch marks throughout the room as well as some destroyed furniture. Either Wilson died in a lab accident...or worse, he got the portal to work and met his end that way. It's too hard to say for sure.
What matters now is heading through the portal, and seeing what this mysterious Constant has in store for you.

Those who were among the disappeared don't remember much about how they were dragged into this realm. They were going about their day when they saw some shadows move in the corner of their eye. The next thing they know? They were being pushed through a portal. From there, regardless of if you went into this realm willingly or not, the experience is the same. The portal's magic will stop the moment you're through the gate- making it impossible to exit. At the same time, a magic tattoo with the number "14 days remain" appear on the back of their hands. Looks like you're going to be stuck here a good long while.
Beyond that? There's no instructions given, no warnings. It's entirely up to you to make sense of this new realm, and what a strange realm it is. The land is not one set biome, but rather a patchwork of different biomes crudely put together. There'll be a forest sitting right next to a sizable prairie and a just as sizable swamp. There's no rhyme or reason to how things are arranged. Even pathways and cobbled roads seem to lead in random places and sometimes to absolutely nowhere. It's truly like this world was scrabbled together from the pieces of other places.
There's all sorts of wild animals in the world. Some are pretty normal, such as the crows and cardinals that are seen flying around or the herds of bison that live in the prairie areas. Some look normal, but act much more aggressive than usual - such as frogs that'll steal your stuff with their tongues or the bees that have much more deadly stings should you disturb their hive. Finally, there's animals that look different altogether: rabbits with antennas, spiders the size of your head (image warning: spiders) that live in giant web colonies, packs of hounds that roam and attack anyone they see, very tall birds that's body is mostly an eyeball and will attack if you go near its nest among rocky areas, and massive monsters that's the size of giants or dragons - and are just as dangerous. If you're truly "lucky", you may even come across a tall bird that's a bit more leggy (image warning: cursed) than most.
As for the vegetation, it varies. There's numerous breeds of trees stretched across the biomes that could be used for firewood and other purposes. There's berries and carrots to eat if you choose to forage. If you're feeling down, maybe picking some wildflowers will even improve your mood. Of course just like with the animals, there's plenty of dangerous plants as well. Mushrooms grow all over the place, most of them are dangerous to your health, or...will make you really high. If you wander into any swamps, tendrils will burst from the ground and attack you. And if you go too crazy with the tree chopping or just have really bad luck, you might get chased down by a massive tree guardian.
Your goal is to survive this dangerous land for 14 days. Forage, hunt, and try to make shelter as best you can and avoid any dangers. Occasionally, you'll come across the skeleton of a person who failed to survive. While some may want to give them a proper burial, pragmatists who don't mind a little grave desecration will be able to take tools such as axes, rope and mining equipment to use. It's not like they have any use for it, right?
Should you fail to survive yourself? No worries! Instead of actually dying, you'll instead become a ghost that can float and haunt their friends (though they can't do much to influence the world). This will last for the rest of the day, and as the sun rises the next morning they will revive fully at the gate that brought them into the world. As for their body and the stuff you had on you....well, that'll all be left behind wherever you fell. Whether your clothes came with you when you revived is up to you, but otherwise you better hope those pragmatists weren't too quick to loot your body.

If you thought the challenges in the daylight hours were difficult enough, unfortunately it's the nighttime hours when the real dangers begin. With no sign of civilization in this world, the nighttime is dark - unnaturally dark. Should you have a light source or a fire running, you should be able to get through the night with little problem, though you'll still need to keep watch for a roving pack of hounds or spiders looking to attack. Thankfully, the nighttime hours last shorter than those on Earth - lasting only 6 hours at maximum each day.
However should your light source go away? You'll feel like something is stalking you, the hairs on your neck rising. You'll then be attacked by claws, and any attempts to attack back will hit nothing but air. The only way to survive this encounter is to find a light source as soon as possible. Doing so will reveal...nothing. There is nothing around that you can see that could've been the source of the attack. It's like the darkness itself decided to attack you. Best keep the darkness at bay as much as you can.
Even staying by a campfire alone isn't safe enough. Once and awhile, you may hear the sound of a music box. When that happens, long clawed hands from the shadows will start to extend towards the fire, attempting to snuff out the light. It'll be easy enough to chase the hands back into the dark, but you have to make sure someone's always keeping on guard.
All in all, this entire situation can leave the toll on anyone's sanity. In fact, doing things such as not taking care of yourself or dying too often will start to make one's sanity slip - which can have a real impact in this world. Characters with slipping sanity will start to hallucinate shadowy creatures or have distorted vision. It'd be best to take time to take care of yourself should you start to experience these symptoms: take a nap, eat some food, pick some flowers, do some self care. Failure to do so? Might result in those further sanity slippage, until those creatures you're hallucinating become tangible threats out to kill you.

Unfortunately for some people, the slipping of one's sanity may be entirely out of their control. One app user, Fern, has always struggled with an eldritch monster side called the Grass demon. And entering this particular gate? Happens to set it off and make it decide to do some exploring of his own. Worst yet, it's not strong enough to travel by itself, so it'll be doing so by possessing other characters and using their bodies to experience the Constant.
It'll start subtly. Blades of grass that shed from Fern's body will make its way to people and attach to them, either latching onto their bodies externally or slinking into an ear. Once that happens, it'll cause a variety of psychological, emotional and physical symptoms as Grass Demon worms his way into their brains and starts influencing them. Maybe the occasional negative thought causes them to become doom and gloom 24/7 . Maybe they find themselves having frightening, even violent mood swings. Some unlucky few may find flora and fungi growing on their bodies (it's an improvement, in the opinion of their new cephalopod companion). The really unlucky ones will hear whispering, a voice or feeling egging them on to solve every problem with violence and explore more of the Constant, regardless of the danger. Those who are already possessed will have an even rougher time, since their patrons won't take kindly to a small spider-octopus-parasite making himself at home, so they'll start to experience their own possessions harder to keep in control or possible flu-like symptoms. Did anyone ask for an existential crisis while simultaneously trying to survive the ferocious wilderness?
There are a couple of advantages to the grass demon, though! That flora covering their body? They can control them to defend themselves against a monster or two. Clever folks could even manage to form a single sword made out of grass, and those who are desperate and are willing to give more control over to the thing that's taken up residence in them will find he's very skilled with a blade. He's also strangely tuned into music, so if some intrepid explorer can make or find a flute they'll find they're now capable of playing some sick tunes to go with their survival horror experience. And those who cast magic with music will find their spellcasting more powerful than before.
Those benefits require giving up more control to the Grass Demon, though, and that means giving up more sanity and causing all the symptoms to worsen. At least characters might not find they're experiencing this on their lonesome, as it's possible that those possessed can recognize the possession in others (as long as other players OK it).
Though most will decide they rather be rid of this new occupant to their mind, so there are options to get rid of the Grass Demon. Death is the easiest one: if a character dies then the Grass Demon in them dies, too. Traditional exorcisms are another. Those with the power to hop into dreams or mindscapes can take care of him very easily, since he's incredibly weak in a face-to-face fight. Of course, it's also possible to take care of him by going straight to the source, though that does mean killing Fern (note, going after Fern will require plotting things out with Fern's player). For those looking for a less violent option, seeking out and destroying a rare magic flower will also purge the demon from their body.
With each passing day in the Constant, the number on your hand will count down. When it finally hits the end of the last day, characters will find themselves either returned back where they disappeared from, or back in their own homes. While they remember spending two weeks in the relam of the Constant, it seems only a week has passed in the city of Kaisou. Those who were infected by the grass demon but weren't exorcised in some manner will also find themselves free of their grassy occupant. Once you are out of the realm you can't go back into the Constant. It seems whoever set up that challenge? Has decided you passed and has lost interest in you. Even Zodiac and the other organizations will have few answers about what happened, though they'll be more than interested in hearing your accounts.
Do your best to forget and try to move on with your life seems the best you can do. And try not to get too scared of the darkness moving forward.
The dominant element this month is Fire! Anyone with an affinity to the fire element will find themselves boosted throughout the month. This could mean a boost to their power, having more energy, feeling more inspired with creativity, having better luck on different attempts -- the boost can manifest in all sorts of different ways. By contrast, anyone with an affinity for Wind will be experiencing the opposite. Perhaps their powers will be weaker, they have less energy, they're having a creative block or general worse luck - again it can manifest in all sorts of way and players are free to play with this mechanic as they'd like.
If you're interested in playing out an element of Don't Starve that wasn't included in the event log, feel free to ask me about it! Most things in the game should be fine, there just was only so many things one can list out before the post gets way too long.
The original OOC plotting post for this event can be found here. Another Zodiac Post will be going up February 15th to serve as an intro post for new characters and allow characters to react to developments over the network.

[Unfortunately for Will, he's one of the first who disappear from Kaisou and is shoved unceremoniously into a portal to the Constant. Once the initial shock wears off, he's quick to assess the situation and start gathering supplies. He starts setting up a camp near a water source in what seems to be like a plains biome. A fire pit is made, some simple snares to catch the weird-looking rabbits are created and set up....
One can find him busy at this campsite doing various things. He could be trying to figure out how to make a rudimentary tent, assessing various ingredients to see if he can make simple medicines out of them, or experimenting with weaving makeshift bandages. One thing's for sure, someone's been paying attention to his wilderness survival classes back home at Camp Half-Blood!]
B: Turn the Light On
[As this unnatural darkness falls over them, the son of Apollo helps to build up the fire more to get better light. Yet, it feels... wrong in this darkness. Hostile. Will remembers his dream and decides that it's better to be embarrassed than hurt. Or worse. He's never tried to use this ability for an extended period of time, so he decides to take it with some caution.
Will takes off his shirt to reveal a tank top underneath it, and concentrates. Slowly, he begins to glow. Quite literally. His skin, each individual strand of hair, even his eyes start to give of light. He turns up his personal brightness to help augment the firelight, as well as be a way more portable source of light.
He keeps up the lightshow for about an hour before deciding not to risk it any further. Will then summons a swan that seems to be made of golden sunlight, and it fortunately also creates about as much light as Will had. Every hour, he'll switch between the swan and himself as the light source until dawn breaks.]
Turn the Light On
He watches Will's lightshow, equal parts glad for it and worried for his friend burning himself out too soon. He's almost glad when the other boy stops and switches for... ]
...Well. That's definitely something I've never seen before.

Varian | Tangled | OTA
Not long before sunset on the first night of the full moon, Varian heads out to the state park. He figures that if he's going to lose his goddamn mind three nights a month, it might be wise if he does that away from heavily populated areas. He's picking his way through the trees- trying to ignore the slight discomfort churning in his stomach from being so far away from the spirit vein. He figures that's just a werewolf thing and nothing to be too concerned about. He's got bigger issues tonight. Every once in a while, he drops a bratwurst down on the ground- he doesn't know if this will stop him from trying to eat the local wildlife, but he can hope. If nothing else, it might keep him occupied through the night and from attacking his companion. He casts Luz a worried glance.
"You still okay with this? It's not too late to head back to town."
The other two nights he follows the same process- and anyone in Kaisou State Park will find a little black werewolf with teal stripes in his fur roaming around. He has a proper muzzle now, with wolf teeth and a wolf nose. Only his ears and eyes remain human. As is the case with all full moon nights, the wolf part of his brain is in the driving seat -so he's not exactly conversational. He can be found racing around, snuffling out sausages to scarf them down. At one point, late into the night, he gets himself far into the woods- following the trail of some poor woodland creature. One minute he's moving and the next he just...stops dead. He yelps and whines, as if something had actually hit him, his tail tucking between his legs in distress. He tries to move forward again, only to get the same result. He quickly gives up and starts heading back the way he came- following a new scent. That's...probably you, sorry.
The Constant - OTA
Varian wasn't planning on going into the Spirit Realm this month. He's got to do his work with Zodiac, after all, and if he was pulled from there, he might miss the chance to put a big spanner in the works of what they're planning. It's just poor luck he's one of the people snatched into the world. As is always the case in the spirit world, his werewolf features are on full show (he still hasn't worked out how to control a human form within the spirit realm yet) but unlike during the full moon, he does have his wits about him. Just about.
He's not exactly adept at surviving in the wilderness. He's done it before, yes, but the countryside of Corona and this place are two very different scenarios. He can be found as night draws near, trying to start a fire- wishing he had any alchemy supplies on him that could help him out right now. A Catcoon watches, occasionally coming a little closer to try and steal the sad pile of seeds he's got next to him. Varian kicks out with his little leg, in a hushed tone.
"Hey, quit it, that's all I got!"
Or maybe you'll see him a couple of sad days into his venture, running full-pelt across the ground. He has a blue and white speckled egg clutched in his hands. The reason he's running is clear as hot on his tail is a huge Tallbird, which keeps trying to peck down at his head as he beats a hasty retreat. It's exceptionally rare that Varian swears, but this feels like an apt time for it.
"Shitshitshitshitshit!"
It Gets Worse - OTA
It was kind of inevitable that Varian would end up having the Grass Demon latching onto him. After all, he spends a lot of time with Fern - there's no way he would have avoided it all month, even if he knew what was going on. Which he does not. He's pretty self-loathing as it is, so he doesn't immediately notice the negative thoughts slowly growing in his brain. By the time plant life starts to grow on him, he's too far gone to notice. After all, he's got earth elemental powers- it's probably just that, right? Anyone who comes across him like this will find him levelling a sharp glare and bearing his much sharper teeth, a growl bubbling out of his chest. If they're a friend or foe doesn't seem to matter to him right now.
"What do you want?"

Danny Fenton | Danny Phantom | Normal AU
Anyone talking to Danny this month might notice him deleting voicemails and texts with increasing annoyance.
The Constant:
Over the last few months Danny had been developing a significant amount of anxiety over the possibility of people he cared about getting hurt or killed when he wasn't there to help. When people start to disappear he notices right away. He wasted no time in heading through the portal once the situation is revealed.
Once on the other side, Danny barely waits long enough to take note of the number of his hand before jumping into the air and starting to search for the missing people. He spends the first few days just surveying the area from the air, landing wherever he spots a campfire or other hint of someone's presence and offering his help. Fortunately few of the threats around here seemed to be able to reach him in the air. Although he has a few close encounters when landing too close to some of the animals. And better not to think too much of the encounter with the spiders or that time he surprised one of the monsters.
He lands occasionally to forage for food, and discovers very quickly that he is very bad at it. He mostly survives on berries and carrots, and by staying in his ghost form nearly the entire time.
The Darkness::
It only takes one night alone for Danny to decide that he was not interested in staying human at night. At least as a ghost he could be his own light source. Unfortunately that meant that he couldn't sleep at all at night. After a few days he starts to take quick naps in the mornings. But between the lack of sleep and burning through his powers using himself as a light source all night and running constantly during the day foraging and trying to help people, Danny is definitely starting to feel the strain after the first week.
Aftermath:
At the end of the two weeks Danny comes stumbling out of the portal, two steps away from passing out. He had completely burned himself out. Again. He blinks blearily at anyone else in the area, and then starts staggering home to take a very long nap.
Just don't tell anyone that he did this to himself again.
The Constant
Luz calls out to her friend, though Danny might be a little surprised at Luz's appearance. Normally she didn't have slightly green veins at her skin, and she looked messier than usual. But it's early on, and she seems to have something of a chipper, yet determined look on her face.

Jun Nightroad | Tokyo Xanadu | OTA
[Jun was one of those who found themselves suddenly shoved into the portal. It's quite a start for him, as he stumbles in. Without any chance to conceal himself in his shroud, everyone can see him sprout a wolf tail and ears that are green and white. ]
Where-
[he quickly jumps to his feet and moves to a fighting stance. His entire demeanor is much more on edge than usual, as if he's looking for something to attack him at any moment. Probably because that's usually what happens when he gets shoved into a portal]
II. Hunting
[As everyone gets organized, it becomes clear that they're going to need food to feed everyone. Jun has some survival skills, though it's fairly limited to the basics. Still, if there's one thing he's good at? It's killing things.
He'll conjure a bow and arrow set made out of light, not elaborating on how he's able to do that. ]
I'm going to hunt.
[He says to let everyone know. He doesn't ask if anyone wants to come with, but he won't be against having company]
III. Campfire
[Jun stays close to the campfire, occasionally summoning plants and flowers to help feed it. He's not an extremely talkative person, so he'll be quiet as everyone else chatters away. Still, this might be a good time to approach him if there's anything you want to discuss with him]
IV. Wildcard

II. Hunting

It had been a few days with Amity gone, and Luz was not dealing with it well. She hadn't gotten any notification of why, or what might be going on, so for right now, all she could do was imagine this place sent her back.
She did not take it well.
If you were used to Luz being sprightly and upbeat, you don't see anything with the girl now. She's sullen, quiet, and maybe this somehow was coinciding with the new scar, but she looked a little more haggard too. The Owlery is probably where you get to see Luz attempting to be more like herself since Eda is still here, but mostly, Luz is in the doldrums.
A few days later though, with all the romance and the love letters abounding, Luz started to get downright RESENTFUL. She would go on little mini rants about the commercialization of Valentine's day and how it seemed to purposely exclude people who didn't have anyone, and that was just purposely harmful! Unfortunately, she might have done this in school and happened to be hopped on her desk as she loudly declared this, so you might see Luz in detention, staring blankly at the wall, her hand around a picture of her beloved.
The Constant
It's a dim hope, but with all of the disappearances, Luz figured that Amity might be among those taken, and she is NOT going to be talked out going after her girlfriend. She dons her beanie with Owlbert, arms herself to the teeth with glyphs, a tent and some foodstuffs, and leaves Eda a note before venturing through the portal.
The next few days Luz is going to be flying over the place furiously, looking for any scrap of Amity that she can find. If you stumble upon her, you'll see that she is getting a little grungier now: there are leaves in her hair, her arms and elbows have gotten pretty scrapped up and there's a look of feral in her eyes that was usually not there. But if you're in a spot of trouble, don't be surprised if Luz jumps out of a bush or descends from the sky to give you a hand.
"Hey," she says, her eyes looking strangely focused. "Don't worry. I've got your back."
It got worse?!
Luz actually did not think that was possible, but things take a turn, all right. The dark turned out to have some consequences she didn't expect. Her tent's been caved in for a few days now, she's running out of food, and the fight is coming more and more now, and Luz's sunny disposition seems to be going farther and farther away.
Then one day, the grass makes its way under her skin, and suddenly, violence seemed to be far more of a way to solve a problem than usual. The things at night could expect a fight from Luz, who seemed to have sported green veins in her skin and flowers that are coming out of her back. By day she's a sight though, especially if you know her already, and certainly you can guess that something's been on her mind while this has been going on.
You don't even need to guess, actually. Luz can be heard muttering "Amity" to herself even while completing her daily activities, though getting her to talk at length in this state is a bit of a chore.
Season of Hell
Eda tries to shrug it off. Truth be told, she'd gotten... used to Amity's presence in the house, and she's feeling her absence now. But Eda's used to loss and loneliness, in a way that Luz is not and hopefully never will be.
The question is just how to approach the subject with her sensitive teen. On this pretty regular day at the shop, Eda contemplates Luz as she busies herself and mulls over the question, only to ultimately ditch any attempt at being subtle. Eda can only do this her way, after all.
So when Luz walks by the counter behind which Eda is sitting, Eda blurts out: "So. Amity."

Waver Velvet/Lord El-Melloi II | Fate/ | ota
[It was not the first time people had started disappearing, and Waver expected it wouldn't be the last. But was it just as infuriating and worrying now as it had been with the Qliphoth? Of course. Did he plan to be ready this time rather than running headlong into certain death? Yes, but what one planned and what happened weren't always the same.]
[Like how well-prepared magecraft was occasionally briefly forgotten around the forest in favor of swinging a cane like a baseball bat to send a soccer-ball sized spider or other such small potential threat flying through the air. Far from an elegant solution, but it seemed to get the job done.]
[Or, as time wore on, he might have planned to investigate the swamp for whatever resources it might have had. Plantlife was a critical resource in several regards, even if he was well aware he wasn't exactly the type to know how to utilize it. That was going to have to fall to someone else, but he could at least collect-]
[The line of thought broke off abruptly as a writhing tentacle rose from the ground in thrashing, writhing movements and narrowly missed snapping at him like a whip. At which point Waver staggered backwards with a look of abject terror, turning white as a sheet and freezing rather than making any move to counterattack.]
[b; campfire]
[By night he took up a spot near the campfire; a wireframe sparrow perched on his shoulder glowing a faint blue, he flicked open a lighter from his pocket to spark some loose tinder and keep the fire going.]
[Then he lit a cigarette taken from his other pocket, because this whole ordeal was a nightmare.]
[c; wildcard/aftermath]
[whatever else in/around the city whenever, wherever]
A
When he comes upon the swamp and sees Waver frozen in place while staring down some sort of tentacle monster, he knows he's not going to make it in time running. So, instead, Jusis summons a Light spirit in the shape of a stallion. It looks more like the ghost of some sort of white horse. He vaults onto the horse's back, saber drawn, and gallops to Waver's defense.
The cavalry has literally arrived. It's clear Jusis seems to have had some training in mounted combat, as he keeps his seat while striking at the tentacle with practiced precision. His horse also kicks at it with its front hooves, driving the thing back a bit further away from Waver. For a split second, a memory comes to him, but he puts it from his mind for the time being.]

Velvet Crowe | Tales of Berseria | OTA
[Velvet hadn't paid too much attention to the disappearances, since she didn't really know many people here. But when the call to help came, she realized it was time to get to work.
She steps through the portal. For many, it's the first time they'll be seeing the acclaimed cannibal in person. She's uh...a sight to remember, with her torn up uniform, bandaged arm, and a face that yells murder.
Her demeanor doesn't change when the tattoo appears on her hand. If anything, she scoffs at it]
Must be one of those realms that traps people in for a set time. Tch, how annoying.
[Well at least it's not like she has anything else going on]
II. Feeding Time
[Velvet keeps to herself while exploring the realm. It's not for a dislike for anyone, she simply doesn't know many people and isn't really concerned about being on her own. It's not the first time she's been in a dangerous realm.
She'll often turn down the food served at camp, insisting she'll get fed elsewhere and people should save it for themselves.
As it turns out, it's not her being charitable. At some point, some unlucky folk will happen upon her taking out some large spiders with her wrist blade. She then will have her bandaged arm turn into a massive red claw hand and proceed to start crushing the spider's body into her hand, as if she's eating them from that demonic hand.]
III. Blades of Grass
[The whole time she's there, she's been patrolling the land in search of this "invasive demon" that the Black Order ordered her to find. Though with how vague the orders were, she's not having any leads.
That is, until one of the blades of grass foolishly attempts to cling onto her bandaged arm. As it does so, it'll activate and move to attack the grass, consuming it]
Nngh!
[Velvet growls at the sudden reaction of her arm, gritting her teeth as she tries to get it under control. She looks around for what could've caused it, but all she sees is now a wilted piece of...]
...Grass?
IV. Campfire
[Like everyone else, she'll be sitting at the campfire, provided she'll sit about as far away as she can without being in the darkness. She's got her arm around her knees and she mostly keeps to herself. But you know, if anyone wants to approach the cannibal lady...now's your chance! ]
V. Wildcard
[Got another prompt for me? Hit me up!]
Blades of Grass
That even goes for right now, when he happens to see some girl with a weird monster arm attack - what is that? Grass? No way, it's probably a bug. A monster bug.
Still, he stops his scavenging, arms full of sticks.]

Fern | Adventure Time | OTA
[The element classification for the newest gate may be fire, but that isn't enough to dissuade Fern from going through, especially not when Varian disappears. He hears from Zodiac about the missing people so it's pretty easy for him to put two and two together. Through the gate he goes, just hoping the place isn't inside a volcano or something.
Luckily, the place is more like a spooky Ooo than anything else. Fern's immediate reaction is to be fascinated by the place, and he spends a good amount of time exploring, scavenging for materials, and looking for his boyfriend. All the while he's shedding bits of grass - though he doesn't find this very odd, given he's just come from the middle of winter to somewhere much warmer. He chalks that up to the sudden warm weather and sunlight causing a burst of new growth in his body.
It doesn't take him very long to track down Varian. From his experiences in Ooo he's pretty good at tracking in general, so after one very happy reunion he settles in to start helping out and making sure no one starves. He has it a lot easier than everyone else, only needing to rely on sunlight and water and the very, very abundant dirt, so he figures there's a lot he can do. Unfortunately, what he decides on turns out to be a massive waste of limited supplies.
He's currently sitting on a log next to a fire pit. Surrounding him are spears and axes that he's put together with pieces of wood, rope and flint. He's actually tying a piece of sharpened flint to a stick, making another spear to add to the pile.
It's really, really excessive.]
We're gonna be so prepared to take on any flippin' monsters that come our way. This is great!
It Gets Worse
[Unfortunately for Fern, there are downsides to being stuck in a place that reminds him of a home where he was an outsider. One he has the realization that oh, being reminded of a place he tried to wreck isn't good, actually, his mood starts to tank. Not helping matters is also the persistent tug to keep on exploring and learning more about the Constant. He wants to go back to Kaisou, back to his and Varian's stupid exploded apartment, but he also wants to stay here. The split between these two opposite priorities is maddening.
It's so bad the Constant starts to have an effect on him - he starts seeing things out of the corner of his eyes, vague fuzzy shapes like monsters. More grass is dropping off of himself, though it regrows just as quickly. It gets bad enough that if someone finds him stumbling around holding his head and approaches, he'll form a grass sword and jab it at them, like he's on the verge of stabbing them. His features have, frankly, taken on a more demonic look, with his eyes glowing yellow and his teeth sharpened into points.]
What??
The Constant
Danny had promptly volunteered to help with scouting and fighting. (Being a city boy, his scavenging skills were limited at best). But for now he was grabbing a moment of rest as he slumped against the log.
"Gee, you think you've got enough of those?"

diluc ragnvindr | genshin impact | normal au
[Aside from brief contacts and regular reading of the network (then swiftly muting his phone), Diluc has largely kept to himself and his regular business. However, he’s begun to defer a few of his winery duties to his closest people since becoming aware of the app.
And since that day a heavy red blade came into his possession during a midday walk. One that he could hold then maifest in his hands with a thought from then on. And one that felt so comfortable to use despite having never touched a sword in his life. Past memories… his stomach began to churn. But an idea sprouted in his mind. Something he’d need to go shopping for. In some very plain clothes sections for a guy so well dressed.
But since then, and a few instances of practice, Diluc has been trying… something. With all black clothes, often a hoodie and a face mask used when people are sick, he’d tend to skulk about at night. Hiding out in corners or even roofs when he could get access. All this crime here, everywhere. And now he could do something about it and not the useless police. For now, he just observed.]
ii. more like the constant bullshit
[It was only a matter of time before one of these Spirit Realms dragged Diluc in. Though he didn’t expect for it to be so sudden and against his will. The fact that he didn’t even have a chance to defend was infuriating, but being brought straight into the realm gave him the opportunity to hunt down the ones responsible.
Upon getting his bearings, he scoffed at the timer on his hand and prepared for the long haul. Something about the hostile terrain made something well up in him, like he’d been forced to adapt to something similar in the past. What that was he didn’t know, but it gave him knowledge. For now that was all he needed. Especially given he wasn’t alone here.
Not being alone didn’t stop him from largely keeping to himself. Occasionally he would declare at random:]
I’m going on ahead to scout.
[Before heading off without another word, though going with him is something he may or may not decline.]
iii. ad astra arachnophobia (or the other things)
[For as much as Diluc looked and borderline spoke like a pompous ass heir, when it came to fighting he was no joke. Since he got his sword, using it was like riding a bike for him. From his wide blade his swings were heavy but deliberate and the rhythm he moved along with manipulating flames from the vision on his belt was almost like a dance.
Be it the aggressive spiders or the rabid hounds, they would fall. But if he sees another being overwhelmed, he’ll come in behind them with a warning.]
Get down! I’m thinning them out! [If you don’t want to get burned, you’d best heed the authority in his voice.]
iv. the campfire song song!
I’ll keep the fire going, save our supplies for anything we need built.
[True to his word, just a snap of his fingers and their barely flickering campfire burned stronger and more steadily with his flames. He didn’t allow it to burn out of control, naturally. But his power still gave a wide range of light. Barring any hands that dared to snuff it out, this was assured at least.]
((ooc: campfire prompt basically is your wildcard option here but prompt i can be one too! Feel free to drop me a message and we can work things out! ))

Crito | OC | Paranormal AU | OTA
[Crito - the mad lad that they are - actually willingly ventures through the portal to investigate; if people are dying in there, then hat's where they're needed. Upon entry, however, it looks like this won't be so breezy as they expected for themself.]
Aw, geez.
[Crito explores for a bit, eventually settling down in the forest to set up camp.
...Except they have no idea what this entails.
Anyone that comes along will bear witness to their shambolic set-up of a half-dug ditch (with a stick, haphazardly tossed to the side) and a pile of twigs they're attempting to light with a rock. Just the single one. They're doing great, don't worry about it.]
ii. dead man's party
[In dire need of more supplies, Crito ventures out further for the hope of...something. They fully expect to luck out - and they do, eventually, finding a corpse loaded with...]
Axes, ropes, and more! Boy oh boy!
[With gusto, they get to looting, then utilise their Digging Stick (tm) to give it...something of a burial. It all balances out.]
iii. no one lives forever
[Inevitably, Crito dies. Ravaged by hounds, attacked by a tallbird, or caught in the dark...the end comes, over and over. Every time, they find themselves left behind. The attentive might notice a little head-winged ghost following them around as they struggle to survive, and those less so might not until it starts talking.]
II
You know, I never expected anyone to be that happy about finding a dead body.

Anthony J. Crowley | Good Omens | OTA
He had avoided all the Valentine's Day fanaticism mostly as he hadn't anyone to share it with. That funny little guy with the quirky bookshop had disappeared otherwise Anthony would be out there like everyone else looking for some chocolates or a card that didn't come across as too saccharine or lame to actually put his name to.
Unfortunately the powers that be weren't going to be that kind as magical Valentine's as saccharine, lame, or snarky as they come were being sent out in his name anyway. Reply here if you would like your character to get one.
2 - The Constant / Mission for the Telltale Heart
It was a rumor based on a vision, based on a dream, based on a rumor, but one that his client had placed a great deal of faith in. In this new portal world was something called a Telltale Heart and Anthony J. Crowley P.I. was tasked with finding it!
He stepped out of the portal which glowed faintly behind him before going dark.
"Right, Telltale heart. Shouldn't be that difficult to find, I'll just look for a large black bird or some one named Poe."
He pointed to the nearest bedraggled camper he could find.
"Oi, you there, have you heard any ominously beating hearts... maybe secreted away in a chest or hidden under some floorboards?"
3 - Staring into the Darkness... er the Forest Fire
It had been so dark that you couldn't see the hand in front of your face. There had only been the eyes. THE EYES. Everywhere, staring, growing closer...
Touching you with their blinking lashes.
Then there was a roar and you knew, you just knew, that you were about to be attacked only instead of lashing claws there was a quick flash of light and the forest around you burst into flames.
"Oh shit!"
Anthony stood up and took two steps away from the 'campfire' which in the dark had been built far too close to the dried and decayed bushes. They burned far too well. So did the trees. The fire leapt from the bushes to the trees, to the flowers, until the entire forest was burning.
"Yeah, my bad! First campfire, since like... grade school."
The fire ramped up, burning hotter and brighter than ever though Anthony didn't seem to notice the heat much but the spiders did as their webbed cocoon homes burned and something else took notice of each and every tree that turned into a cinder.
"It's probably fine. Not like the spiders are going to know who did that, right?"
no subject
"It's fine. Neither of us can burn, and honestly, I'm okay with some cooked spiders."
And trees. And...whatever else the fire might end up reaching. Oh well.
"Besides, I saw the shadows trying to put out a fire I started earlier, so I'm sure the creepy shadow things here know how to stop forest fires.

Grusha | Pokemon Scarlet/Violet | Original Universe | OTA
[Grusha is not one of the lucky ones; one moment he's relaxing - as best as he can, so soon into arriving in Kaisou - and the next a shadow in the corner of his eye has him dragged into the Constant. It's alarming, but now he knows what people meant when they spoke of danger in Kaisou.
Fine, turn up the heat - he won't melt so easily.
The vast wilderness and beasts lurking within hold nothing to the trecherous mountains and their wild pokemon, and Grusha's not alone.
Altaria follows behind him as he goes about procuring supplies and setting up camp, chirping and cooing with interest at all the busywork. When he ventures further out, she's able to be seen in action against oncoming enemies, landing a rather forceful peck against the spiders of the wilderness.
Still, Grusha has to wonder...]
What are those?
ii. it gets worse (cw: plant/body horror)
[At some point - and Grusha can't pinpoint when - things took a downwards turn. Not that the Constant was ever pleasant, but now it seems inescapable. Even if he makes it out alive, what will he go back to? A dead dream and no direction? Condemned to live in another world where he has nothing? The thoughts make him withdraw into himself completely, sitting on the very verge of the camp, barely touched by the fire's glow.
But what little light that graces him traces a couple of leaves poking out from beneath his scarf, working their way up his neck.]
iii. it gets worse 2: the worsening
[Grusha hates this place. With more leaves spreading out across his neck, he despises it with every fibre of his being. This desolate hellscape, this miserable purgatory. It didn't matter how many days were left; hope had died a long time ago. There was nothing on the horizon.
But - as a new impulse made itself known - there was some method of catharsis for him. Yes, yes, it was so clear now. Battling could be so fun, remember? Grusha needed to fight. Fight with all his hatred and misery.
And so, he goes out to find something, anything, recklessly throwing himself and Altaria into danger. Even if he's outnumbered, at least he's having fun, right?]
i
[The whistle of a long makeshift weapon being swung through the air was the only other immediate warning as a spider caught the handle of a cane full-on in the face and went flying past Grusha and Altaria both.]
Fuck, why is it always bugs and tentacles?!

Gravelord Nito | Dark Souls | OTA
[Though he's among the first to vanish, it's likely days before anyone notices Nito's absence, prone to sleeping for days at a time as he is. But though he slumbers until the very moment he is spirited away, the old bones awake upon hitting the Constant like the first gasp of breath after a nightmare.
It takes only a moment of taking in his new surroundings before he begins the task of gathering materials for a fire, moving at no greater pace than he usually does, but with all the purpose of someone who had been expecting this for weeks and held a connection to flame old as time itself.
If need be, one can certainly redirect him to another task that needs doing, like cleaving monsters in twain, but during daylight hours he's most likely going to focus on gathering wood and other things that burn.]
B: Firekeeper
[At his core, Nito is near as much a creature of the dark as humanity. He does not fear the night nor anything that might lurk in the inky blackness and what they might do if they get ahold of his old bones. He does, however, care that the mortals dragged into this place with him need fire to survive the night, whether for cooking or warmth or to drive away monsters both real and imagined. He also does not strictly need sleep, much as he enjoys it.
It's for these reasons that he keeps vigil at the fire each night, keeping it burning as he sings to guide any lost in the dark back into firelight.]
C: Bonfire
[This is the wildcard option. Go ham!]
B: Firekeeper
That thing! It's been following me for hours!
[ Slight double take at the singer. ]
You a local or am I seeing things again?
[ The pursuing monster stopped just at the edge of the campfire's light and tucked its arms back underneath its decorative tablecloth. If it hadn't just been seen moving one would simply have thought it was a normal table. ]

zero | final fantasy xiv | ota
[It isn't the first time Zero has found herself in the darkness. The infuriating part is that everywhere goes nowhere—none of the paths make sense, and the animals look more like lab experiments.
Quite the welcome home, she thinks.
She knows how to make a fire, and has a decent amount of supplies on her person—enough for the night, at least. And she isn't afraid of the dark, not even a little, as she practically blends in. Hounds? Huge spiders? Not a problem... at first. But having to stay vigilant during the day as well as the night eventually takes its toll, and she begins to slip. She dies once, and is disturbed. But then she dies again, and again, and again, and she's beginning to see the futility here.
How's that lone wolf life going for you, Zero?
Well, on this particular night, she's facing off against a pack of hounds and an even bigger hound who keeps calling more of them. She's strong and fast with those two shadowy blades she's wielding, but she's not invincible; she's bleeding profusely from a gash in her stomach, and for every two dogs she takes down it feels like three more pop up in its place. She's gotten a couple of good hits on the Varg, though. Someone with more accuracy, or maybe even magic, might be able to finish it off.
She doesn't register anyone approaching. Her mind is only on survival. Again she darts in like a whirling dark dervish, striking down a hound even as one jumps on top of her back.]
I won't... fail. Not again!
[Seems like she could use a hand.]
[II. prison of flesh]
[She isn't alone.
That's not an unusual feeling here in the Constant, but she isn't alone in her own head. She knows this sensation. Remembers it. From the moment the blond man in her memories reached out and... formed a pact, forced her into it, she... wasn't alone.
Zero's emotions boil under the surface, mostly ignored, which makes the invasion even more noticeable. She's not prone to violent urges. Even in her more dire moments, she's more about survival. Though, the curiosity—that's not new. That makes sense.
But what she finds isn't a monster. What she finds is another survivor, just like her. Maybe this person could be her savior and break the cycle... a cycle that began long ago, on another world.
Instead of asking for help, she conjures her shadowy blades and charges out of the shadows. She's done the math: if she can get someone to kill her, there's a possibility that this will stop, just like that time she was poisoned.
She shouts one simple warning:]
Prepare yourself!
[III. self care/wildcard]
[Zero has finally given up. She's near a fire built by some of the others, the first time she's actually tried to mingle... but she isn't mingling so much as laying there on her back with her arms tucked at her sides, her hat sitting on top of her face. Very corpse-like.
Poke her or recruit her for something else, your choice.]

[When Zero comes at her, that's what she assumes. It's a hallucination. Rose barely manages to raise her scythe in time to block, being pushed back by the blow. Her senses returned to her, she begins to realize that her attacker is extremely real and also not a product of this forest.]
Zero!?
[They haven't talked much, but Rose remembers the forehead.]
What in the seven hells are you doing!?

Rose | FFXIV | OTA
[For all the good she's done in the past moons, Rose has decided to take a rest. "I'm not going to get involved this time," she tells herself. And it almost works.]
[Until she is unceremoniously stuffed through a portal. When she turns around, the portal's gone, and the only thing she can do is bang her fist against a tree demanding to be let out. Once the rage subsides, she takes a closer look at herself.]
Fourteen days remain. Is this some sort of sick joke?
[The remark is addressed at whoever's closest to her. If nothing else, she isn't here alone, at least.]
[Survivorship Bias]
[For all that Rose loves naturel, and for all the time Rose has spent in the woods, she's never actually had to survive in the woods. Each time she's gone out it's been a reprieve, never a necessity.]
[Which is to say, home girl's screwed.]
[Her first mistake is wandering into a swamp. Thankfully, she has her trusty scythe with her, and she's able to cut down any tendrils that approach. Again. And again. Until she gets tired and needs help. Perhaps you run into her there.]
[Or perhaps you run into her in the forest itself, staring quizzically at a shrub. She's never done this before. It's obvious she's never done this before, even to the untrained eye.]
Does this look safe to eat?
[Holding an extremely questionable mushroom in her hand, she'll ask whoever's closest. Please tell her not to eat it.]
[In the Dark of the Night]
[Rose has never been particularly good at taking care of herself. She's not good at taking care of her mental health on a good day, and she has no idea how to fend for herself in the wilderness.]
[It's not a surprise when the hallucinations start. Rose tells herself they aren't real, they can't hurt her. And she almost believes it, up until the point that one of the hallucinations aims for her heart.]
[She barely blocks the blow in time, awkwardly pulling her scythe out. It's not even fully drawn as the hallucination prepares for another attack.]
Seven hells!

Katsuki Bakugou | My Hero Academia | OTA
This is the first year Katsuki has given a damn about Valentines Day. Normally he rolls his eyes at the eye-burning displays of vibrant pink and red, hearts everywhere. But he's got a boyfriend now. One who definitely cares about things like this. So, in turn, Katsuki cares.
Even so, deciding on what to get for Yoosung is proving a difficult task. Would he want flowers? Candy? A card??
He's eying a display of plush animals in shades of white, pink and red. All with hearts in some way incorporated... Yoosung likes plush toys, but would he like something like this??
Maybe he could use a little help deciding what to get him.
The Constant:
Sticking with Katsuki here has it's perks. He's more than willing to blow up or burn any enemies that you encounter. Doesn't seem to matter to him how big or terrifying they are, he'll fight it.
But on the flip side... it doesn't matter how big or terrifying it is, he'll fight it. Which can prove troublesome because his power set is pretty destructive. In dense tree areas, he's a forest fire hazard... oops? But hey, at least that giant spider's nest isn't a problem anymore!
Anyone got any water powers? Might be a good idea to help out.
Staring Into The Darkness:
Okay so he maybe burned down a significant portion of forest area. (Unless someone managed to help stop that.) But he's still an asset at night. As determined by the whole forest fire thing, he can make fire with his bare hands. So that's useful.
He can be found cooking whatever food he's collected throughout the day over the flames.

Moxxie | Helluva Boss | OTA
Moxxie doesn't know how he got here, and the fact that he didn't have time to prepare makes him nervous. Sure, he has his gun. Ever since he pissed everyone off he's decided to keep his gun on him whenever he leaves his teapot in case someone decides they want to get some revenge, but that's it. No spare ammo, no food, no survival tools. He knows that once his bullets are gone that's it, his gun is just a really fancy paperweight. He'll have to use it sparingly.
Which, of course, means he has to keep out of sight, which is why he might be found creeping around behind bushes, trying to keep out of sight and munching on the occasional berries as he skulks around. Unfortunately for him, the eye catching black and white striped horns and bright red skin might draw attention despite his attempt at stealth.
Staring Into the Darkness
It wasn't long before Moxxie figured out that he'd get attacked whenever it was dark. Fortunately, with his powers it's also easy to get rid of the darkness. The first time he was attacked after the sun went down he summoned a flame to try and burn whatever it was...and immediately surprised himself. Not only was his fire easier to summon, it grew to the size of a basketball instead of the size of a lighter. He was surprised again when he realized his attacker was suddenly gone.
At first it seemed like things would be easy. Just stand there with the fire and wait until morning. Unfortunately, after a while he begins to grow tired. He starts trying to put together a fire pit, but it's tricky to try and build a fire pit when he has to focus on maintaining his own ball of fire, and it certainly snuffs out a few times before he manages it. Each time he's reminded of why the fire is so important to maintain when he's immediately attacked. Eventually he manages a safety hazard of a fire pit, and with relief, once a fire is roaring in the fire pit, he drifts off to sleep.
...only to be woken up a short while later when he's being attacked. It looks like he'll have to stay up with the fire. All night long.
[The Constant Part Two]
As the days stretch on, they take their toll on Moxxie. He sleeps during the day when he can find a place to rest, but even that isn't great as he's perpetually anxious about something finding him and killing him while he's vulnerable, and he ends up startling awake at every sound. He's long since used up all the ammo in his gun, and has fashioned himself a knife out of a sharp rock and a stick that he can barely use. While he was able to get some decent hunting done in the beginning when he had use of the gun, now he's stuck gathering berries and carrots and failing horribly to try and kill creatures with a knife.
As he grows more and more desperate, his sleep deprived half starved brain starts giving him more and more erratic suggestions, and that's where he is when he comes across a pig man, wandering not far from the pig house he lives in. Maybe he shouldn't even be considering this, since this creature is clearly intelligent enough to be wearing a grass skirt but...honestly, at this point Moxxie is so hungry he doesn't even care.
He leaps out of the bushes at the creature, landing on its back and stabbing it. It squeals, and before he knows it, he sees more pig men coming to assist their friend.
"Oh, crumbs!"
Moxxie decides discretion is the better part of valor and he jumps off the creature and runs, doing his best to try and flee the pig men.
