Anyway, so like, back in the day when I was a young creature and the world new and the unicorns could've come to me fresh and in the tender dew of my maidenhood, we used to have library class, right, because grade school was very good at going 'you'll definitely need to know what a Dewey decimal is, it's very different from your bog standard decimal' and sometimes the Librarian would need to like... not actually supervisor a bunch of 8 year olds because they had shit to do even though they weren't real teachers, so they'd put on movies, and in the wintertime--

--in the wintertime, they'd put on this movie about a boy who was like, a very posh boy, he had a housecoat and slippers and two parents, and he built a snowman with like, legs and stuff, and then the snowman came to life and they went [ as he changes tone to sing-song] soaring through the aiiiiir even though they called it walking, it was soaring, flying, breaking free, Wildcats--

Anyway, it's really weird to have the sensation of 'soaring through the skies' passed over your not-quite-awake senses, and I was so high in the moment, wind harsh on my face, breath barely in my lungs--it rattles you so much harder than flying does.

Hope you aren't afraid of heights. I am. It's why I'm so short, probably.

I am humbly requesting assistance to anyone willing. It seems I have been afflicted with a curse of unknown origin. I know not the source of it, nor do I know how it could best my tolerance to such tricks. It doesn't look to be the work of my cousins, either.

I suppose that does not matter.

[He raises his hand to show the 'cursed' item in question which is...his phone cord which seems to be tangled in one very loose knot resembling the figure eight. It's held between his thumb and index finger as he looks upon it in absolute tragedy.]

Good morning, everyone. I apologize for the early broadcast but... something strange has happened in our house and I was hoping to catch someone from POKEGO before you all left for your camping trip.

[He doesn't look upset, at least, but more...confused? Taking the phone, he aims it towards the living area, and it doesn't take long for the average viewer to see just what they're talking about. Piled together in some blankets by the door are a Dusk Form Lycanroc and a Luxray. Irene and Bruno for those who know the two.

This would be normal--they often stuck together at the house for anyone who visits.

But there, in the center of the two is a rather sizable...patterned egg. Really, it's huge.]

We awoke this morning and found this egg alongside these two. As we're rather...new to whatever this situation is, we haven't disturbed them, but any expertise on this would be appreciated.

[To some people, this is going to be a face that hasn't been seen for a couple of years. Jusis has been busy with getting The Black Order back on track in their new direction, and now he's back online in the Gemini app.]

Since it's been a long time since I was on the Libra app, allow me to introduce myself. My name is Jusis Albarea. I'm a member of The Black Order, and currently one of its leaders. I also work as a criminal prosecutor.

Varka's told me about the potential for the "lotus eater" magical trap, and I decided to give that report myself to you all as a favor.

[Jusis glances at his laptop screen for a moment before continuing.]

It's a fairly common type of illusion magic we have to handle, but we categorize it based on severity and we have identified three methods of infliction. To give a brief overview of what it is, lotus eater magic is essentially highly powerful illusion magic designed to bring your greatest desire to the forefront. Sometimes it's used to trap people. Other times it's used to subdue people. Rarely, and in very controlled environments, it can be used as a form of therapy.

Now, we'll start with the methods since that's simpler to explain. They are ingestion, location, or personal. Ingestion is the most common form and is self-explanatory. In order for the illusion to work, you must in some way consume it. It could be food, drink, or even a drug. This is perhaps the most dangerous of them since it skews more toward getting people addicted to the substance. Even the scent of it can be powerfully enticing.

Location is essentially where a specific place with definable boundaries that induce the effect of the lotus eater magic. They don't necessarily have to be of your deepest desire, but it can certainly target your more primal desires. The Order typically sets up a boundary marker to warn people away from those areas, and the more dangerous ones will generally have a Guardian there as additional security.

Lastly, the personal method is one where there is a person actually casting the magic or in some way operating the magic. It's not unheard of for people strong in Light magic to be able to create lotus eater traps to protect themselves, or for more nefarious reasons. However, the amount of people they can inflict that upon is usually small. Even one on the level of the Undying struggled with maintaining that kind of illusion for a great number of people.

[He pauses for a moment to let people digest all of that.]

As far as severity goes, it encompasses the scale of the afflicted and the realism of the illusion. The more realistic it is, the more energy it requires and the harder it is to break free.

And now we come to how to break free of it. Given the purported scale, I would guess that it would fall under the location method. However, if it's under the ingestion category, then I would advise to never eat or drink anything from anyone within a Spirit Realm. It doesn't matter if you trust them or not.

[The blond sighs softly and takes a moment to choose his words.]

We've identified only three methods to attempt to break people out of a waking illusion. The first is that they have a strong enough will to overcome the temptation, rendering it entirely harmless. The second is that someone the victim trusts is able to convince them to willingly leave the dream behind. If neither of those two options work, the third is to drag them out of it forcefully and may require knocking them out if they become unreasonably hostile. Some of these illusions will cause the victim to enter into a berserk state if you try to break the spell, so exercise your best judgment.

If neither of these methods work or if there are severe symptoms or complications that arise after leaving the dream, that's when you need to leave it to medical professionals or seek medical attention yourself.

That's all I have. Unfortunately, I can't give any further specifics since it can take a lot of forms.

[We've reached the second half of July. The weather continues to be humid and stormy. In addition, characters will notice two new problems on top of the miserable weather:

The monster-infested tears that started appearing around the start of the month? They've grown a lot more frequent, and are appearing regularly within the city grounds. The most frequent spots seem to be around Zodiac headquarters, near Random Play, the Harbor, and most concerning- near hospitals.

Many characters will feel something of a mental tug... as if something is making them think of deep seated wishes and desires they have. For some, this will go so far as to manifest as dreams or even fleeting daydreams. But these wishes always feel so fleeting- like they are just out of reach and you need to go somewhere to obtain them. Interestingly, this effect is stronger the closer you are to the harbor area of town.

[The jungle competition is over, its prizes given out to those who competed. While some received huskies and $10,000 each, others were given much more modest and unwelcome rewards. Such as $50 gift cards to a stupid theme restaurant.

But whatever. Bakugou's not going to waste this opportunity. After all, when else will he be able to trick Lycaon and Hugo into going to a Rainforest Cafe?

So it is a very worn out August, sat at a desk with a very, very big cup of coffee, who is on the video today.]

This is your friendly reminder--yet again--that if you're commissioning something for a con, you communicate with the tailor and do so before four days before con holy shit I am going to start charging extra...anyway.

[He chugs some of his coffee and reaches for his deck. He usually does the reading beforehand, not on camera, but he's been so busy that fuck it he'll film it. August takes the deck out of its bag, holds it in his hands, takes a breath, and then starts to shuffle. Once that's done, he pulls a card.

He then does this another two times, clearly making sure that this is in fact the correct card. Once he's sure, he flips it to show the camera.]
