...localized entirely within a spooky forest? [OPEN]
WHO: Pasqualo and YOU!
WHERE: Her Labyrinth, Kaisou Central Hospital, and Brick Alley
WHEN: Mid-February
WHAT: Pasqualo arrives, gets treated for her head wound, and dyes her hair.
WARNINGS: Negative mental health and self-image in the narration.
a. Just Like Home
[Pasqualo is used to feeling like she's drifting whenever she zones out. It's almost comforting, letting the roaring tide of her emotions sweep her away and numb herself to the outside world.
What she's significantly less used to is that being literal rather than an overwrought metaphor she uses whenever she's particularly miserable. One blink, and she's lying on the hill, staring up at the night sky and contemplating her lack of a future. Two blinks, and she's looking up at a grey canopy instead, fog covering Pasqualo like the worst blanket in the world and a disquieting total silence surrounding her.
For a moment, she thinks she's fallen asleep... but even in her worst nightmares, there would've been way more dirty jokes and non-sequiturs by now, so Pasqualo is forced to acknowledge that Runoff Falls' signature brand of weirdness has caught her by surprise instead. Sighing, she pulls herself to her feet, slaps her cheeks a few times to get her head in the game, and begins hiking through the forest.
This place was bizarre, even by the standards of the forest that crowded around town. The shivers down her spine left a sensation like she was being watched with predatory intent, and-
Wait, she knows what's up. Pasqualo fishes around in her pockets, looking for her pass... only to come up empty.]
Oh, c'mon, [she whines, before putting on her best "WHO'S A GOOD BOY" smile and calling out to the forest.] Heyyyyyyyyy, Pup! Pup, buddy! C'mere! I know I don't have my pass and I'm technically breaking the ancient covenant honored by our ancestors or whatever, buuuut if you let it slide this one time I'll give you some ear scritches~
[Pasqualo may be direly misunderstanding what is happening here.]
B. Going to the God Damn Doctor
[Taking care of herself is something that Pasqualo likes to think she's good at. "Think" being the operative word here. Really, her way of staying on her feet amounts to pizza bites in the microwave for dinner and ignoring anything that ails her through sheer force of will.
But the weirdest thing about Kaisou, at least to her, is that there are adults that actually care about how she has what's probably a concussion that needs to be looked at right away. So she was rushed off to the hospital, got a bill of "take it easy and rest for a week or two," and was sent on her way with some pain medication (and a prescription for spiro and some E).
So now Pasqualo is sitting at a bus stop outside the hospital, dazed as she watches the traffic pass by.]
You know, I always figured that getting isekai'd would be a lot... weirder. Ending up in a modern US city isn't really light novel material, [she says to no one in particular.] Then again, at least it seems like I'm not being written by a total hack...
C. Walking on Sunshine
[New city. New world. New life totally independent from her dad (and also from all of her friends but Pasqualo is doing her best to pretend like she isn't dwelling on that right now). New Pasqualo! No more sadsacking around moping about her future, no sir! And what better way to celebrate than by making impulsive makeover decisions!
Given Pasqualo's only point of reference for a makeover was that one time she got practically kidnapped by Trisssh to go to her party, she decides to dye her hair pink again—which totally isn't a way to feel like she's connected to her absent friends, shush—at Brick Street, and when she walks out into the sun with her new-old highlights, she catches a rare glimpse of herself in a window.]
Whoa. [Pasqualo looks herself up and down, gawk turning into a tentative smile.] I can actually kinda dig this look now! It was a bit harder to appreciate when Trisssh got all up in my grill and dunked my head into her sink, but... dayum! [Giggling, she does a little twirl.] Woohoo! Alright, I can-
[This is when Pasqualo notices that her hands have been gathering the sunlight with all her wild gesticulations, her excited spinning swirling the light like cotton candy to form a mini-aurora around herself. She stops dead in her tracks, smile flipping back to a gawk.]
...holy moley.
