Does this happen often? I've been here a few days and I have the owl staff! He was in a freezer, with little hat and scarf and everything!

I mean, its technically not mine, but the person who it does belong to...um, is probably not able to use it right now, so I'll be taking care of it! I missed you Owlbert!

If you guys see anyone zipping around, it's probably just me!

[In the forest/ OTA]

Despite what she said, Luz was actually not flying Owlbert around where anyone could see her easily. She knew that it was lucky that she had him to begin with, and she had to be careful. The last thing she wanted was anyone to confiscate the staff, especially when it didn't really belong to her anyway.

For right now though, Luz is keeping low to the ground, getting some flying in. She missed this, being able to have her powers and being able to use them, since this place seemed to put a damper on that. At least here, with no one around, she could mess around all on her own. Hiding her magical abilities made her feel more and more depressed about being here so long.

[Cafe/OTA]

She thought with the latest regain, she'd actually be feeling pretty good. Then she got one other regain, taped onto the bathroom mirror. She's hastily grabbed it before Eda could see, putting it into her hoodie, her heart sinking a little when she saw it, but holding it close.

Now that she was away from everyone, she unfolded the picture and stared at the three people there who she was missing.

Willow, with her sweet enthusiasm and good vibes. Gus, smart as a whip and always willing to lend a hand when he could.

And Amity. Her Hermosa. Gentle. Strong. Wonderful.

Luz couldn't help dabbing her eyes, missing each of them and unable to hide it right now.

As long as he was still a wand form, he's ok! Though I wonder why they'd choose a freezer.

[Oh, Luz almost died when she saw him, girl can't help it].

So question. You've seen Hunter with his staff. Does he fly with it?

It's hard to say. These things seem to appear in random places, honestly.

Hunter? I don't know, I haven't seen him flying. But it's not like I watch him 24/7.

Huh. Weird. At least they dressed him warmly then.

Yeah. Ah, I don't suppose you got a picture of him in his little outfit, did you?

Oh, sure! You see them once and awhile. I think most normal folk don't even notice it.

[Luz sends him three pictures of Owlbert in the aforementioned snow attire. They are all cute].

Oh good! Ok. I know there's no way I'll be able to do that too out in the open, right?

[Good girl Luz!! Elliot makes a sound that sounds very much like a squee at the sheer cuteness] Ah, he's so cute!! Just look at that little face in his little winter hat..!

[This makes his day ok.]

Ah. Theoretically you could. Whether you should, I'll leave that up to Eda to decide.

[Because lord knows Elliot's not about to go over a mother's head. Oh no.]

[Well, TECHNICALLY. She WOULD need Eda's permission if they were on the Isles for the important reason that Owlbert was Eda's own Palisman].

Because you're staying with her, and who knows how conspicuous she wants to keep her magic.

Also I'm pretty sure that's still her staff even if she doesn't remember it.

[Boy, it might be hard to NOT have Owlbert see Eda as she was right now, and her not recognize him. Or would ne not be affected? It was REALLY hard to tell which way it would go].

I wasn't planning on throwing magic raves, if that you're implying! I don't just throw magic around for tricks!

[Like she even COULD. This place has severely toned down the effectiveness of her glyphs, which left her feeling slightly naked and very much like the child she must have appeared to be, just stumbling around this world.

But Luz didn't have time to play that part. She needed to get back to the Isles, and if she had Owlbert, all the better! She had no idea how much time was passing by with her HERE and not THERE].

If she remembers Owlbert and her memories, I'll be happy to give him back. For right now, she doesn't even know staffs can fly. So I'll take care of him until she does remember.

I like this place, and you, but I don't have time to play lost little kid asking permission. The fate of the world back home is at stake, and I have no idea what it'll be like when I DO get back.

[ Eda's gaze lands upon the little owl-shaped figure at the head of the staff and suddenly, a vivid image flashes in her mind. She's gliding through a pink sky on a staff, Luz sitting in front of her. Below her is a strange land with what looks like giant ribs sticking out of it. At the head of the staff, wings guide their flight.

Luz might see her staring into the distance for a moment before she blinks a few times and shakes her head. ]

... haha, yeah. There sure is.

[Elliot's smiling demeanor? Visibly drops at Luz goes on. In fact, he looks like he's been downright sucker punched out of nowhere for a moment. While she thinks she's arguing for her independence? He's just seeing that soccer field full of dead children, his students. Of the memory of Millium, slowly bleeding out.

All because they all insisted on saving the day.]

[He squeezes his eyes shut and takes a deep breath. There's definitely tears forming that he's trying to fight back. His tone is one that's trying to be firm, but there's a quiver to it that shows she actually hurt him. ]

Time doesn't move in the Boiling Isles while you're here. That's why you never noticed Hunter gone. So you have time. Also, that staff wouldn't help you get back anyway.

[If the staff was the key, then Hunter would've been long gone by now. He only bothers to say this to completely dismantle her high ground argument. Of course he's been looking into all this. He has a whole class of kids that need to get home.

Now that's info done, he'll really rip in.]

Whether she remembers it or not, that staff belongs to Eda. Expecting you to ask for permission to use it isn't treating you like a "lost little kid", adults would have to ask permission too.

[He has to swallow back some tears, struggling to hold it together]

And maybe I am being a little harsh, but you saw that soccer game Luz. I knew those kids! Maybe...Maybe I just want to avoid making the woman you call a mother experience the same fate I seem to be cursed with in every life time: watching kids I love die.

[His tougher demeanor is starting to fall apart. The tears are getting harder to fall apart and he's getting more choked up]

Now if you excuse me, I-I need to go.

Tiera also likes to spend some time in the forest. For once, neither of her owl siblings is with her, and she's flying under her own power, gliding through the trees with a pair of ghostly green wings faintly sprouting from her shoulders. She notices the other shape, and starts in surprise to see that it's a whole staff instead of another owl. Landing on a nearby branch, she lets out a confused hoot, trying to call out to either the owl staff or its rider.

[Oh, she caught that. Luz stared at her a moment, then had to fake a non-committal shrug.

Was she getting her memory back]?

Right! When he wakes up, why don't I introduce you both?

It wouldn't help in that way but it will help in others!

[Luz knew she'd have to use the staff in more than one way, considering all of the things she was seeing here. Ghosts, magic, and whatever else, she knew speed and her casting was something she had no choice but to employ.

But then, of course, Elliot plays dirty and has to start making sense. Sure, she had a pretty pressing need to go back, because saving the isles was always on her mind along with finally getting back home to her ACTUAL home. That alone brought some complicated feelings.

And of course, yes, it WAS Eda's staff even if she couldn't remember she could use it. Someone needed to though, and since she could still use her glyphs, Luz figured it made sense. But she couldn't keep it and she knew that too. Owlbert would always truly belong to his witch.

But Elliot said that, and all of Luz's indignation, her reasons, fell away and her face flushed with understanding and GUILT. Luz put so much forward in trying to help people, she tended to forget people still cared about her too, as estranged and isolated as Luz felt without anyone from the Isles. Now she accidentally made one of the nicer adults here, the one that personally helped HER, cry].

Wait, no, Mister Craig...what I meant was..!

[And he sighed off and Luz cried out in frustration, throwing her hands to the sky. Why did this place have to be so complicated]?!

[Leave it to Luz to casually drop that she now has a magical bird she can use to fly. Well, he's been here several months and Flapjack's palisman status hasn't put him in any danger, even with Bruno knowing, so maybe it's okay that people start to put two and two together....?

If someone from the Emperor's Coven shows up he'll deal with it. It's fine.

Anyways, he'll send a text to Luz. It isn't any actual text though, it's just a picture of Flapjack wearing the tiny gold scarf Mirabel knitted for him. Look at that cuteness!! He's so adorable and frankly it's some good self-case dressing his emotional support bird up, and Flapjack looks very proud of how dapper he is.]

"Hmm?"

Luz hears the hoot and pauses, slightly moving higher until she spotted the girl from before, where she saw Hunter and that long haired girl die.

"Oh, hi! I remember you!"

Luz rises up until she finds a branch sturdy enough for her and hops off the staff. It reverts into Owlbert, who hops onto Luz's shoulder and also gives a hoot greeting.

[Huh. She got a text. From...the Golden Guard? When she opens the attachment, her eyes go wide, and she actually staggers back with a squeal].

So cute! It burns!

[Luz immediately sent an attachment of her own: Owlbert in a bowler hat, with Luz being chased by a toy shop cashier in the background, holding a toy man who seemed to be missing an essential part of his dapper outfit].

[Sorry Luz. He could've stuck around, but he needed some time to fall apart and he was just too proud to do that in front of people. Of everyone on the app, only Rean has ever gotten to see that side of him.

Give him some time to work through that and collect himself, and he'll be more willing to talk. Luz didn't mean to set him off, after all. ]

I found my own herding staff in a pond, so apparently stuff from our worlds shows up sometimes.
