cardinalrule: (frustration)

Okay, I will.

[He will not, and as soon as Elliot leaves he retreats back to his bed with Flapjack, curling up on it.

This is bad. This is really bad. Not only has he gone and died, but one of the adults he considers an authority figure here doesn't think he can handle being on his own. So much for being the Golden Guard, right hand of the Emperor and head of the Emperor's Coven. He really is nothing more than the Emperor's nephew, some stupid kid playing at being an adult. No wonder all the other Coven Heads never take him seriously.

He lies there with his palisman for a while, alternating between feeling sorry for himself and trying not to panic at the memories of being stabbed float to the surface of his mind. Shortly before Elliot returns he does make a token attempt to look like he has it together before dragging himself over to his desk to do some paperwork for Zodiac. Of course, he basically gets nothing done, and definitely not when Elliot returns. He's honestly glad to abandon it for Elliot's laptop when he offers to set him up with a movie.

That isn't actually something he's ever done before, watch a movie. Not having a television and not being familiar enough with theatres means he hasn't explored them in Kaisou, and back in the Boiling Isles the closest thing they had were things like the news on crystal balls or Penstagram, neither of which he ever indulged in. Unsurprisingly, he has no preferences when it comes to genres, so he lets Elliot pick. It's something about some little creature that reminds him of the Owl Lady's dog and a human girl.

That's when Elliot steps out for an hour or so, and when he comes back Hunter is well into a movie that is actually about a violent tool of war learning that he can be more than what his creator made him to be, and an outsider little girl with a broken family learning to care about each other and building a whole new family together with other broken people.

By the time he returns Hunter is clutching Flapjack and teared up. Even though Elliot is an absolute champ at handling this Hunter still feels himself flushing and trying to push those feelings down so he doesn't embarrass himself further.

The rest of the day goes slightly better. Hunter eats, tries to get more Zodiac work done (and fails miserably), and eventually it gets late enough that they go to bed.

He doesn't sleep. He tries, he knows Elliot wants him to so he tries, but he isn't used to sleeping this early, and too much has happened over the last day that his mind is a mass of churning doubts and anxieties. In the end he only manages to pass out for a few hours, and he wakes up at his usual five am.

When he does he at least tries to get up quietly, not wanting to wake Elliot.]
